Ciao Ciao. Wow Wow. We arrived at 5:30, hoping to have a cocktail and check out "the vibe" in order to possibly make a reservation for later in June. The house was packed, every table reserved, and we were informed we could wait in case two seats opened at the bar. Super-server Steve to the rescue. He overheard our plight and directed us to a linen-cloth high-top in his section, saying he had a reservation for 6:30. Fine! One star, We ordered martinis (generous) and meatballs with polenta fries. The meatballs were delicious pillows served with a soft, silky tomato sauce (I know, gravy!). Heavenly. Two more stars. We enjoyed friendly conversation with Steve and our high=top neighbors. Another star. Next, a conflation of events: it was approaching 6:30; two seats opened at the bar; Steve scooped up our drinks and, in an instant, two linen place settings appearedfor us. Yup, another star. Thank you Steve. We ordered light and airy focaccia , served with a creamy alfredo (?) sauce and a very tasty eggplant app with ample tomato gravy (sauce?). I'm losing track of the stars but you get the picture. Another pair of martinis from the pair of virtuoso barkeeps, Ryan and Desiree. It must be said that, although the bar was slamming, Ryan and Desiree kept pace with their orders and added a warm personal touch. Throughout our stay, the owner was hands-on - greeting, schmoozing, clearing, serving and even making drinks (maybe to keep his hand in?). What an experience! Bravo! You won't pick him out right away, he looks like the rest of the front-of-house staff, it's one team! The décor is unique, (see the bathrooms right away, I won't spoil it for you here!). Bring your phone with you. You're going to want a selfie from in there. (I know! It's not as weird as you think!) The vibe is cool, and relaxed, friendly and fun, but the energy is palatable. You'll love just being there I promise! Then comes the food and drink. The bar is fantastic, staffed by experienced, friendly and hospitable bar professionals who just can't wait to start making your visit memorable. The servers are professional and delightful, and really down to earth. No pretense at this place! They have tons of experience and their knowledge around the total product is impressive. The attention to detail, in the whole operation, is just as completely impressive. The menu is new, and fresh and unique. All the pasta is made in their Hope Street window by Chef/co-owner and all-around food guru CJ. He and his staff make tons of pasta every day each in a most imaginative shape, and each designed to compliment the exact dish for which they are meant. I guarantee you have not ever seen a menu like this. My personal recommendation is to come back often and do not eat the same thing twice, until you've been though the entire menu. I visited once already and came back again. When I came the first time I thought to myself, this place is only going to get better each and every visit. Boy, was I right!!!! Just wow! Can I give them 6 stars? I visited with Meg M and Steve (aka Willow) was our server. He took great care of us! The cocktail menu is just so impressive, but makes decisions harder! He explained some of the sections to us and gave recommendations. I had the hot pink Paloma, which had dragon fruit and mezcal in it!!!!! For our starters we had the focaccia bread, which comes with fontina cheese and Calabrian chili oil. I can't have dairy and Steve made sure to bring out marinara sauce for me to have with my bread. We also had the Japanese eggplant which WOW!!!! Next time I come, im asking for that eggplant on top of pasta for my dinner! It was soooooooo good! They prepared it for me without cheese on that too. For dinner, I ordered the clam pasta dish and my friend had the Sunday supper. Her dinner was huge, enough food for 2-3 meals! Both meals were fantastic. I had wine with my dinner and Steve suggested a red which was fantastic. My friend had an Aperol sour drink which was shaken in the coolest machine. For dessert we had lemon sorbet and olive oil cake. My friend had an espresso and it smelled amazing. Truly such an amazing experience. Finally checked out Ciao Ciao finally with Taylor S and wow! Can I give them 6 stars please?!? We started with some beautiful cocktails, and they were so refreshing and tasty. Lexi helped us with some ideas, Steve (Willow) made sure we picked drinks we would love, and Andrew made sure they were sooooo good! What a team! We were convinced we needed two appetizers, and Steve was right. We really did! The eggplant app (Melanzane Al Sugo) was AMAZING and I can't stress how you must try it! Taylor has a dairy allergy so they went out of their way to give us sides for her to go with our focaccia bread. They were so accommodating! For mains, Taylor got a seafood pasta dish (Chitarra alle Vongole) , and she loved it! The plate was clean when she was done with it! I got the Sunday Macaroni which is basically enough for three meals! Taylor got some Italian red wine and I enjoyed a house made sour that is made in this badass shaker machine. I was obsessed! We also may have ordered dessert---the Ciao Ciao Olive Oil Cake is a must! We were pretty full, but I had as espresso before we left. Adam, the owner checked in on us throughout the night. You can see all the effort, love and pride that goes into the restaurant. That is all seen through the amazing staff---Lexi, Steve and Andrew took such great care of us from start to finish! I also have to add (to this never ending review) that the little touches of art from the menu to the walls to the stunning bathrooms really make this place unique! This place is going to be great. Service was a 10/10. Only nit-pick: the drink menu is a little too long and could be organized better. We skipped ordering wine after our martinis because flipping through so many pages felt like a chore (small detail, but it matters!). Artichokes were awesome. Ciao Chopped had a lot of potential. Ours was missing chickpeas and the dressing was a little heavy, making it slightly too tart with the pickled veggies. Still fresh and I'd order it again. Cacio e Pepe was incredible. We have not felt this enthusiastic about a restaurant in years, we have found our new go to. Upon arrival Adam greeted and welcomed us and we knew we were going to have a favorable experience by the way he paid great attention to every single detail happening around him. Our server was sweet and attentive and the service flowed nicely. We started with a wonderful and fairly priced wine and cocktail selection as well as arancini, meatball, and focaccia. All were remarkably tasty and the addition of polenta fries with the meatballs were delicious and an example of a restaurant that is not trying to cut corners. We were all in agreement that our entrees, were tasty, well seasoned and served hot. We ordered 2 of the Cod Loin, Milanese and the Beef short rib as well as Paccheri for the table. The pasta is fresh and the sauce is divine. We will be back again and again for the Cod with spinach and gigante beans! As an added bonus desserts, tiramisu and gelato are hugh portions and so good! For lunch, the Chicken Milanese sandwich was easily my favorite: perfectly crispy, flavorful, and just really satisfying. To start, we had delicious meatballs with a skimpy portion of polenta fries, and sausage with a skimpy portion of beans and broccoli rabe. My short rib was delicious, not too salty as it is sometimes served. His spaghetti with clams left him wanting - more clams and more flavor. They brought out a giant bowl for shells and the dish had all of 3, count 'em 3, clams. The worst part was very little flavor. The waitress was lovely but needs to learn about pacing, as our entrees came while we were enjoying the apps, and the table is not that big. Small portions for an Italian place.
