    The Mariners Cataplana. AMAZING!!
    Michaela F.

This restaurant is SO GOOD!! Ambiance, service, inventive & DELICIOUS dishes! Went here for a belated birthday dinner w a girlfriend & got two seemingly simple entrees that were truly out of this world. We enjoyed some big sexy steak w an egg on top (prepared & seasoned to perfection) & the Mariners Cataplana = seafood stew (shrimp, scallops, calms, mussels) that was SO TASTY!!! I would LOVE to know how that broth was made as I practically drank it all. This restaurant is such a treasure. And those who know KNOW.

OTRA delivers a very upscale dining experience at a great value. The dining room is very comfortable, and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. The food itself was also great. They start you off with a choice of bread, as well as olives, nuts, and a spread. All of that was great. We then split calamari, which was fresher and more flavorful than most. I had the paella, which was large enough for most people to share. It was very delicious with clams and nicely crispy chicken. I ended up eating leftovers over two more meals, and I was very happy with it.

    CROQUETAS de JAMÓN, excellent

It really pains me to downgrade my rating for Otra because this had previously been one of my favorite dining establishments in Providence. I enjoyed a number of great meals here over the years with one of my friends as well as my partner. My friend and I were always well attended to (shout out to Adam) and served great food. However, my fiancé and I dined here on Valentine's Day and we were really disappointed with our recent experience. The service was truly subpar- I had to refill my own wine glass and ask for a refill of water. While we enjoyed the bottle of wine we ordered, we were beyond disappointed with the poorly presented and tasteless tin of octopus. It was literally a tin, opened and put on a plate with no crackers, sauce or other accompaniments, for $15. The croquetas de jamón ($8) were excellent, but the seafood paella ($40) which we were really looking forward to, was nothing special at all and really did not even taste like a traditional paella. Instead it was more of a tomato, rice and seafood dish, served in a paella pan. There was no saffron flavor at all and I we really questioned if there was saffron in it at all. I understand that this variation includes tomato sauce, but the tomato really overwhelmed the other flavors. While the atmosphere here is still nice and was appropriate for a nice evening out, we were so disappointed with the food and the service on this visit. I'll still come back for appetizers and drinks but not sure I'd return again for a full meal given this recent experience.

Food was amazing. There are many seafood places, but only and handful ( Hemingways ) and now OTRA know how to make seafood stew. The sauce, the claims, shrimp, squid, calamari and scallops were cooked to perfection. The restaurant is vibrant and the bar was a thing of beauty. Service waa top notch. Can't go wrong!

Our first time to OTRA & we tried all the tapas! I've walked by the restaurant a million times & then saw a sign that says tapas 50% off at the bar from 5-6pm Tuesday thru Friday. Yes, please! The wine & beer list has some interesting options, cocktails look gorgeous. You start with the Bread Service: alioli lactonese, assorted olives & marcona almonds served with choice of hard crusted baguette or soft portuguese roll. Ummm, let's just be honest here... I could make a meal of this alone with a gorgeous glass of rosé. The bread was crusty, the alioli lactonese was something new for us & completely decadent, the brine of the assorted olives cut through the lusciousness of the alioli & the marcona almonds gave a nice crunch. We tried the following tapas: - Croquetas de Jamon: Iberian ham croquets - a perennial favorite! - Patatas Bravas: fried potatoes with spicy sauce & alioli - wished the potatoes were a bit softer - Summer Spare Ribs: mojo rojo & arugula salad - hubby's favorite - Torta Jamon: Spanish omelette with carmelized onion & potatoes topped with Jamon Serrano - our least favorite, maybe the omelette was a little over? - Bombas: Potato & meal ball with spicy sauce - note to self: get two orders of these next time - Spanish Roulette: shishito peppers with maldon salt - so fun! Yes, most of the shishito peppers are mild or a bit of a zing, then you bite into one that is HOT! Hence, the name "roulette". - Homemade Potato Crisps: drizzled with honey & black pepper - loved the sweet with the savory & a bit of heat from the black pepper Definitely going back soon for another delicious round of tapas!!! Can't wait to try their paella sometime soon.

I first learned about this restaurant several years ago when I bought my sister and her husband a gift card for Christmas. They loved it. Well, I finally had a chance to go. Really nice restaurant with many choices. Very nice wine list, mostly Mediterranean wines. And some nice cocktail options. For starters, they had some very good crusty bread. Their spread was a whipped milk, olive oil and garlic. Very flavorful. There were also Marcona almonds and Spanish green olives. I started with a tapas of lightly fried squash flowers in a tang/fresh tomato sauce. And my dining partner had the shaved garden salad. Both really good starters. Staff very professional and service excellent, and the food was incredible. I admired how the waitress wiped the table in between course and silverware replaced. Very attentive without being over-bearing. For the main course I had the seafood stew, CATAPLANA "Marisco" The Mariner's Cataplana. Shrimp, scallops, squid, mussels & littlenecks cooked in a spicy tomato broth of Vidalia onions, garlic & white wine, served with garlic-rubbed toasted bread. It was awesome. So much seafood and so much flavor. Probably the best seafood stew I've ever had. My dining partner had the OTRA CRISPY CHICKEN, Chicken breast, breaded & lightly fried, served with melted leeks, mushrooms & a touch of cream with fresh tarragon accompanied by a crudo of asparagus and spring carrots. Very fresh, very ripe tomatoes and fresh corn off the cob with fresh basil. Very light and so much flavor. For dessert we both had the tees leches with coconut. Very hefty portion. We were very impressed and look forward to returning in the future.

Chill vibe, excellent food & cocktails. Sat at the chef's counter but felt a little cramped and was nowhere near the chef (who as in the back, lol). Would recommend sitting at the bar if looking for the most spacious but intimate and attentive dining experience. Steak was cooked perfectly - a true medium! Calamari, flat bread and ribs were top notch. Would definitely go again and bring friends!

We had an amazing dinner here. We sat at the bar which was less noisy than our initial table. We ordered a series of tapas.- patatas bravas, gambas, snow pea special (to doe for), manchego and jamon serrano. We loved every dish. There wasn't one dish we didn't enjoy. Then we topped it off with a scoop of caramel ice cream (homemade on the premises), and a chocolate pudding/mousse. They did forget to bring our glass of port - but also didn't charge us for it. And otherwise the waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and very good service. We have added this place to our 'repeat' list and plan to go back.

Wow! How am I just finding this spot! Dined here last weekend and truly one of the best meals/experiences I've had in a while and that says a lot for as much as I travel to new restaurants. First off the service is best in class and staff is very knowledgeable. We also the pleasure of meeting the executive chef Gloria. Her passion in her food shows and happy we were able to meet her. We took all recommendations from the octopus, scallops, Iberico ham to the croquettes. The thing that stood out the most was their house made lactonnaise. Extremely addictive and watch out! Anyways look forward to making this a regular spot.

I'd love to give Otra more than three stars but the service was just Ok - a bit slow. Ambience was wonderful & restaurant is beautiful but our server seem to forget that we were there. I was constantly looking for her. I ordered the Carne a La Plancha and it was a generous portion and can be split between two people. It comes with an open faced bone marrow that was very buttery. However, my steak lacked flavor and definitely needed more salt or seasoning. I'll give it another try next time and maybe ask for extra salt. Three people from our table sampled the steak and agreed that it was lacking salt or seasoning. On the positive side, we all enjoyed their tapas for sure. That deserves five stars and those came out in a timely manner. Definitely a great spot for friends, booze, and tapas. I'm just sad that my steak lacked seasoning. Better luck next time!

The restaurant is located in a small plaza with plenty of parking which is nice. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance because once you step inside you are nicely surprised by the super cute decor and how cozy and nice the place is. The waiter was very nice and attentive and recommended some entrees since it was our first time dining with them. There was so much to choose from because everything sounded so good. They even had a specials menu with very reasonable prices. They had a lobster dish special that was only $30! Wow! They gave us complimentary olives and warm bread with butter which was also really nice. We decided on wine because a half bottle was only $12! That was perfect for the both of us! We got the soup of the day which was kale with sausage and it was so good! There were big chunks of sausage and the delicious broth was perfect for a cold winter night. My boyfriend went with their sea bass which was a whole fish and it was nice and flaky and super yummy. I think the star of the night was my fegioda mariscos dish. The seafood and lobster looked amazing and tasted amazing! I especially enjoyed the red bean broth it paired well with the shrimp, mussels, clams and lobster! We were stuffed but satisfied by the end of our meal and wished we had room for dessert because the three options they had also sounded very good, but there's always next time! We will definitely be back!

Come Mother's Day and I am not a fan of going out on the actual day, but I did remember this place. We made a Saturday reservation, picked up my son from work, and headed over here. SO WORTH IT! I thought the spot was adorable and clearly well loved by locals and their own staff. You really get the feeling that all that work there really love the place. I like the menu items are not the "usual suspects" I see at most Tapas places, which are good but sometimes you want to shake things up. We got: Bolas de queso Patatas Aioli Croquetas De Jamon Croquetas De Verduras Solomillo De Ternera y Queso Cabrales Calamares Fritos Tabla de Quesos Pisto Manchego Albondigas De Cordero Iberico Peras Borrachas Torta De Chocolate All the menu items were flavorful and enjoyable. I think my favorite was the Croquetas De Jamon, if I had to choose just one item. We also decided to get two desserts - a pear dessert which seems to be their signature dish and the chocolate tort. While the pear was lovely, I was really in the mood for something chocolate so I enjoyed it more (but honestly cannot go wrong with either).

The sangria is so refreshing with fresh fruit tasting like they just picked it themselves. The lovely bartender, Astrit, informed me the grapes are Grenache from Spain , which have a dryer, robust flavor compared to the sweeter red sangrias that make you regret your decisions the next morning and tastes better in my opinion. I'm usually more of a beer guy but this slaps! I've also had the white before and that also hits the Richter scale. Last but surely not least, the garlic chicken (pollo al Ajillo) is the best chicken I've ever had, hand to God. Spiced with everything nice and delicious oil and garlic that you deserve. She'd mapped out a perfect little afternoon and evening, starting with an indoor market that was full of local art and vintage charm. By the time we wrapped up there, we were hungry. With so many restaurant options around, we chanced it and landed here. The moment you step inside, you're hit with that scent of garlic and seafood. My kid and I gave each the 'look' that said: this is it! Casa Portugal is inviting and decorated in soft blues+whites giving a coastal feel and the service equally matched the energy perfectly: attentive and kind. Our plump and juicy shrimp in tomato sauce starter was rich and full of garlic. It was the kind of appetizer where you find yourself wanting extra bread just to sip up that garlicky sauce. For our main plates, my kid picked the grilled octopus, and I went with the sea bream. The octopus was "like butta," and had that perfect char on the outside but silky inside. My sea bream was nice and I particularly liked that they got rid of the head and tail for me. Both our man plates by the way- had a nice amount of potatoes and steamed vegetables. And here's another part that really stood out- pricing. For the quality and freshness of the seafood, everything felt reasonable. All in all, come to Casa P. for a good meal. From the moment you walk in and smell that garlic in the air to that last bite of seafood, it really delivers on every level.

We had a delightful dinner here at Casa Portugal. On a chilly evening, this place felt very warm…read moreinside with beautiful decor and a peaceful ambiance. We started off with a pitcher of sangria, as did many other couples around us. The sangria was delicious, one of the better ones I've had. Fruitful and sweet, very refreshing. They bring bread to your table to start, it was very good especially with some butter and olive oil on top. I do wish it were toasted or warmed but it was still fresh. We also ordered the appetizer, Chouriço Assado no Fogareiro (Grilled Portuguese Sausage). This came to us straight off the flame and was nice and hearty. I ordered off of the specials menu, Bacalhau com natas (Cod with Portuguese cream). It was very yummy, fresh fish and a light cream. It came with salad but I asked for rice. Instead of substituting the waitress gave me both and charged an extra $5...oh well. Salad was good and rice too. My boyfriend got the Filetes de Peixe (Fried fish filet with salad, rice & potatoes). He enjoyed his too! Those potatoes were yummy. We chose fish and most of the tables around us did too. We skipped on dessert although all looked great. This place was quite charming inside and definitely is an awesome place to enjoy dinner. It was busy so we were lucky to snag a table as it's not big inside. We did feel as this cooking was very homemade and although super tasty and lovely inside, I wouldn't consider it fine dining. I would revisit!

Amazing dinner here on a weekday. It was bustling inside despite it being a Tuesday and the…read morerestaurant was absolutely packed during dinner time. We ordered so many dishes and almost everything was a hit. Matrimonio: came with a side of bread and I loved dipping the bread in the sauce. Thought the anchovies were a bit too salty but the tartness in the sauce balanced that out so definitely get the sauce with your anchovies. The olives were great as well. Patatas bravas: a fave at tapas restaurants and they were fried very crispy here without being oily and the aioli was not too fatty tasting Txistorra con Brandada: little small sausages- this one was good but I didn't think there was anything too special Gambas al Ajillo: heavenly. the garlic oil was so good that I was using the bread it came with to essentially drink it. The shrimp were cooked without being dry croquetas: I personally don't love anything too creamy so this one wasn't a hit with me but everyone else in my party liked Pinchos Morunos: i think this was my favorite during the dinner. the pork was so juicy while retaining the smokiness from the grill empanadas: were so small and only came with 2 in the order, so wasn't a big fan Lastly, the Arroz Negro paella: absolutely delicious and probably made my teeth black all dinner but was worth because every bite was delicious I think the price point is a bit high for some food items but aside from that, no complaints. Would come back!
