Camarão de Aperitivo

Solid Portuguese food in an intimate, down to earth setting with decent prices and fast service. Came tonight for dinner and was able to get a table right away. I got the asparagus soup to start: creamy and well balanced. Also the shrimp appetizer has a to-die-for garlic sauce. Then for dinner got the pork chop special which had a zingy garlic sauce and came with potatoes and rice. The pork was a little over cooked but the dish was quite good. Also, the service here is suuuuper fast! For dessert I got the poached pear and natas do ceu. The pear is served whole and cold in a red wine sauce. I'd never had natas do ceu before, it's basically layers of crushed cookies, whipped cream, and custard. It was really god but not my favorite dessert. I'd definitely come back. For the quality and quantity of food you can't beat the prices! Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Price: 6/5

Woah! What an experience. This food was absolutely delicious! We had the veal and octopus special. The flavor was packed in and it was cooked to perfection! One of the top places visited in 2025 for me food wise. It's within the top 3! The service and ambiance of the place was great. It was busy after we arrived, there was no wait for us but people did have to wait. It's worth the wait. I will return!! If you are in the area looking for dinner. Stop in!!

Recommend this wine.

VERY AUTHENTIC, REASONABLY PRICED, DELICIOUS FOOD, STELLAR SERVICE. I visited Porto, Portugal in 2022. It was the best trip I have ever gone on, (and I travel as a mariner for a living). Seeing this restaurant on yelp I was like I must go! (I low key am trying to plant seeds in my husbands brain so that we can go back but this time together). This restaurant was a replica of the restaurant in Portugal. The staff were so friendly and attentive. My water glass never ever went below half way. The prices were so reasonable. $30 for a bottle of wine (and it was sooooooo good). Big portions at a good price. The olive oil, let's talk about the olive oil they served. I meant to ask them where they source it from because it was such a good dipping and cooking olive oil (and I brought home olive oil from Crete, Greece during olive oil season. This taste was different and just as good, used beautifully with the dish). The atmosphere was amazing! The painted plates and mural tiles on the wall, the tiles on the bar. It felt warm and like a close family really took pride in their restaurant. So recommend.

The most delicious Carne de Porco á Alentejana - One of my favorite pork dishes they have. Incredibly tasty.

I have been to many Portuguese restaurants, I think this is top 3 for sure. Unassuming place that delivers a very nice atmosphere with very tasty and consistent experience (that combination is getting harder to find). Highly recommended if you like Portuguese food. If you never had Portuguese food, come visit for one of the very best around.

Very authentic Portuguese restaurant. Lamb chops were some of the best I've ever had truly.

3.5/5, +.5 for service It's not everyday when I have Portuguese food. After having so many seafood lunches and dinners, I suggested to my parents that we try something different, and this place came up in my searches for hidden gems. Ambiance isn't much here, but given the prices I can see why. Very affordable, and feels more like home style cooking as opposed to Instagram-style foodie cuisine. One of their specials that night when I went was the grilled octopus, so I went for that. The octopus was extremely tender, easy to cut and easy to chew. I was pleasantly surprised by it and really enjoyed it! For under $30 I cannot complain about it at all. My parents had the "Caldeirada á Portuguêsa", a seafood medley in a red sauce. It wasn't bad, but the red sauce was lacking and the seafood medley didn't have much flavour. I guess if the intent here was healthy homestyle cooking it does its job. I added a mango mousse for dessert. It was delicious! There's some other options that seemed appetizing too. Service was good here, the servers might seem slightly brash but they're knowledgeable and will recommend choices on what to order. I'd say a 4-star rating is reasonable especially given the price point; it's not everyday I get to have Portuguese food!

Charming little place with lots of variety on the menu. I'm not super familiar with Portuguese food, but compared to previous times I've had it, this place stacks up fairly well. The seafood dish was not as flavorful as I'd hoped - didn't seem like it was seasoned with anything other than salt and big bits of garlic in the broth. I didn't care for the mussels - they were extremely chewy. The desserts were pretty good though - no complaints there. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the seafood dishes. Service was quick and efficient. The decor is colorful and inviting. The bathroom was clean. Only street parking available and It took about 10 minutes to find on a Sunday afternoon. Wish I could give it a better rating based on the service but I was underwhelmed by the entrees.

Amazing Portuguese food! The dorado was amazing. The pastais was warm and creamy. They were very friendly. Will return again when we are in town. Took my family there and they also enjoyed their meals. Try it and you will love it! Get the vinho verde wine which is light and crispy for summer. Thank you for being in Somerville. Ambiance was nice too.

Baked cod fish in olive oil with red potatoes

First timer in Casa Portugal, but not the last. My wife and I had dinner in Casa Portugal last weekend and it was a great experience in overall. Let's start with our server Cristina. She was great providing some options when we were asking her about the items on the menu and the drinks to pick. She was very cordial and polite and took our order to perfection. For drinks, my wife did not order anything fancy (just Diet Coke ), but per Cristina's recommendation I ordered the Sangria and it was delicious. With probably less ice I would have enjoyed it much better... Let's go to the food...For appetizer we ordered the Fava Beans with Chorizo and it was absolutely amazing!! The fava beans were well cooked and the mix with the chorizo along with the seasoning made of it a delicious start. Then we ordered our food based on Cristina's recommendation for first timers like us. My wife ordered marinated pork cubes that came in a house sauce with potatoes. The meat was tender, juicy, and very well seasoned. I ordered the baked cod fish in olive oil with red potatoes and, OMG, it was absolutely or@)&mic to the palate!! For dessert we ordered two to share. One was the Pastei de Nata, which was very delicious, and the other was Nata du Ceu that was also very delicious!!! The ambience was cosy and inviting to spend quality good time in there. I highly recommend to give it a try to taste the delicious food from Portugal (disclaimer, Brazilian friends have tried this place and they found it very authentic. Also, we are from Spanish roots which share a lot of commonalities with Portugal and have visited the country before, so, I have to say that the food was what you will find in Portugal). Our best wishes to Casa Portugal and a ton of blessings to their staff!!!

Muqueca Restaurant - Fish & Shrimp Moqueca

Thank you, Muqueca, for warming me up…read more Fish with Shrimp Moqueca: Made in the Capixaba recipe, this version replaced red palm oil and coconut milkthem with tomatoes--which happened to be my favorite. The broth was warm, flavorful, and refreshing. The initial notes are the sweetness of onions and bell peppers, followed by the delicate aroma of cilantro, leaving a clean taste impression. The whitefish fillets are tender and flavorful, yet still retain a subtle chewiness. The Pirão sauce, made with the fish broth and tapioca starch, was rich and thick, enhancing both the saltiness and umami, even reminiscent of Cantonese style abalone sauce. The two flavors were distinct yet complementary, a true delight with rice--though fresh, higher-quality Thai jasmine rice would be better. The earthenware pot, bearing the marks of time, kept the food warm; the portion was also very generous, perfect for sharing. I ended up taking some home for a second meal. Flan: Although I was quite full, the deliciousness of the moqueca piqued my interest in trying dessert. The pudding had a smooth and delicate texture, unlike the often sticky flaky texture of supermarket flans. The egg flavor wasn't strong, while the caramel syrup was rich and smooth, with an irresistible initial bitterness followed by a delightful sweetness. Plus, the syrup was generous, making it wonderful to coat every slice of cake in it. No wonder it's their signature dessert. Hot Sauce: The homemade hot sauce was highly recommended by my server. It didn't look very spicy, but it was far beyond my tolerance. However, I must admit it was incredibly delicious, with a refreshing citrus flavor and a smooth, emulsified texture alongside the spiciness, creating a very rich flavor profile. Being unable to handle spice is a real shame in its presence. The server's movements were elegant, the service attentive, the pace comfortable, and he satisfied some of my curiosity as a cuisine lover.

People recently wondered why Boston got nearly entirely shut out by the Michelin people (only 1…read moreone-star was given); among the places that were said to be in the running was Amar, located in a lovely space in the Raffles Hotel. We have been there twice, and I now will put my brief review. The take-home: if Boston, Raffles, and Amar think they deserve a star, they really need to up their game. I will get one thing out of the way very quickly: the food is spectacular and the wine service was excellent; these are not the reason for my comment. The simple truth folks is that a dining experience is not JUST about the food. It's about ambiance--which includes service and atmosphere, and that is where Amar just falls apart. It would be wrong to not recognize that the individual servers were quite nice and attentive. We had an 830 pm seating--hardly late in most cities, though one might suggest that in Boston that is on the later side (it really isn't folks). Regardless, by 1030-11 pm, the dining room was nearly empty on a Saturday night. At that moment, a server came over to us to alert us the kitchen was closing--which was obviously them saying "get out"--but soon thereafter the smell of cleaning fluid filled the air, and we realized there was a person cleaning the tables--with a cleaning cart, complete with mops, brooms, and cleaning fluid in the middle of the dining room. While people were seated and eating. This is a restaurant with a pricey menu and wine list, and I cannot remember a time when dining in a fine restaurant when something like this EVER happened. We found it funny at first, but while trying to eat our dessert and drink our final cocktails the smell of ammonia really ruined the final experience. In the end, once served with the bill, it was not funny. The bill was around $1000 for 4 people including a nice bottle of wine. So: expensive, nice individual service, good food. But the lack of awareness about how diners paying for an expensive meal feel being rushed, and then the utterly ludicrous presence of a cleaning cart in the middle of the dining room while people were still eating (I posted a photo) makes Amar a laughable memory but nowhere I'd go back to.
