Seafood so fresh! I liked the map showing their fresh and sustainable process of how they get fish from MA fishermen. Had the soft shell crab BLT special. It was delicious with the added lemon wedges squeezed on, and my first time having fried soft shell! Not served with a side but I didn't need one. The food was amazing as expected! I was a little sad that the scallops were sold out, as we specifically came for the scallop roll (we had it 10 years ago and still haven't forgotten it!). However, we tried the salmon burger and clam chowder instead. Both were perfectly seasoned--not too salty--well-prepared, and delicious! The staff members were friendly and the service was very quick. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon when it wasn't too crowded, so there was no line and it was a nice, quiet atmosphere for dining. This place is pretty good. We tried the fish taco and fish and chips and the fish is very tender but it's slightly under seasoning. I would say fish and chips have better value. It's $4 more, but the portion is a lot bigger. The fries are very good too. It's crispy outside but moist inside. The clam chowder is pretty good as well. What a gem! Service and food were both excellent. I walked to Boston Public Market from my hotel nearby and explored a bit. I got a few things from different stalls, but came here to grab my husband a fish sandwich and fries for lunch. While waiting, I saw the fresh oysters through the glass and inquired about the cocktail sauce (it looked to be housemade). The man working the counter went to double check it was gluten and dairy free for me, and it was! So I went ahead and got one of each oyster available that day; I also loved that they gave you the details about what fisherman caught them and all. Super cool. The oysters were shucked right there in front me and were served with lemon, cocktail sauce, and mignonette on a lil paper plate. It was the perfect afternoon snack! I went to this place after reading all the great reviews. I ordered their medium lobster bisque ($9), but after a couple bites and found no lobster pieces, I went and asked about it, the manager said it's made with lobster juices only. All the lobster bisque I've had elsewhere always contain some pieces of lobster (I'm not talking about huge chunks, but at least some small pieces), so I went asked the lady who served me to see if we can exchange it to clam chowder instead. She very sarcastically said, for $7 (referring to the small cup pricing), you're not going to get any lobster. She acted like she did not want to bother with me even though there was no other customer (it was an early Monday morning), until I asked again if I can have it exchanged, then she very hesitantly said "I'll have to ask the manager". So after checking with the manager, she unhappily gave me a small cup of clam chowder. I feel like the people who rave about their Clam Chowder probably never tried Boston Chowda, which has much better flavor and a lot more clams in it. So my experience was terrible, bad soups and rude customer service, I don't think they care about customer feedback or satisfaction guarantee. read more

The main stop on the Secret Boston Food tour, our group got to sample a full-size lobster roll from Red's Best Seafood, located deep in the Boston Public Market. Red's is mainly known as a middle man in getting fresh seafood from local fisherman to the customers in an efficient manner. This location is one of their few retail outlets, serving the best seafood. The lobster roll was a classic cold-style variety, but substituting the mayo with a small amount of creme fraiche, and not much filler (e.g. vegetables). It was a combo of the different types (claw, tail, and knuckle) and had been cooked perfectly and then chilled. It was served on top of a top split brioche toasted hot dog bun, and the meat overflowed. I really liked it, and might be the only type of cold lobster rolls that my wife will eat. read more

What a great place to get fresh or canned seafood. Nice deli menu as well. Being part of the public market makes it so easy to grab something and go or sit around the market to eat. We are fans of some canned seafood after our trips to Spain, so to see and buy some of their specialty cans was a real treat. The staff was super friendly and happy to answer any questions and make recommendations. It was really great to see that the fresh seafood had a specific location and fisherman's name attached to it, really makes you appreciate where our food comes from. I ordered a salmon burger for a quick bite and it was quite good. I was a bit skeptical about the arugula, but the lemon aoili cut the peppery taste out and tasted great with the salmon.
