At first the place appealed to me because they had seating and the same price as all the other lobster roll places. $40 for lobster roll, clam chowder, and a drink. The lobster roll was not a hit. The lobster meat itself was dry and had a funny texture. The bread is soaked in cheap butter and absolutely no flavor. It was just a big no for me. The clam chowder was also not good. It tasted like frozen clam chowder, especially after having a really nice clam chowder at dinner the prior night this one compared to that one would get one out of 10. It is a favorite stall inside the Quincy market. Why? Aside from its tasteful chowders, sandwiches, rolls and any seafood delight , this is the only stall that has accessible stools and table on site. What a cool experience to sit right at the bar in Faneuil Hall Marketplace and enjoy my first lobster roll in Boston! The lobster was warm, buttery, and super fresh. I've had lobster before that smelled fishy, but this just smelled incredible. The server prepared our food in less than 5 minutes, so you can definitely come here for a quick bit if you're short on time. 11/2021 This eatery is located in Quincy Market. For tourists like me it's hard to figure out which crazy priced eatery I was going to choose. Luckily they had a free Chowder soup sampler. Portion is smaller than at a full sit down Boudin SF, but it is comparable to their small bar type spots in food halls like at Westfield. Literally SO good. This was the last stop on our Boston trip and somehow we hadn't had fresh oysters yet so this was a must stop. They tasted literally so fresh and were cleaned very well. So, if we're being honest, I was in town again with a few friends, one of whom had never tried a lobster roll. Of course, she needed to experience a lobster roll in Boston, so we started looking up places nearby. We found one we liked, and started heading towards it. When we arrived, the prices and menu just weren't what we were expecting, so we decided to look around, and we found this place by chance; and it was a super lucky chance. Definitely a great experience had here from start to finish. First thing we noticed was they had samples of their clam chowder in front of their spot so you could get a taste of what you could expect from them. In addition, they had barstool seating, so we were able to enjoy our meal right there without having to walk further away for a table. Also, they have hooks under the counter to hang your bags/purses, so you don't have to leave your stuff on the ground or on another stool that someone else can use to sit on. We were greeted immediately, and the ordering process was smooth and quick; definitely something I appreciated. The actual lobster roll was amazing - the taste was fresh and had a kick to it; the lobster was juicy and well seasoned without being dry or too heavy on the mayo; and the portion was decent for the price paid. The lobster bisque was phenomenal. I am not a fan of soup, in general, especially in the summer, however, after a sampling from the employee behind the counter, I could not pass it up. If you go here, I recommend you try it at least once. Overall, if and when I'm back in the area, I plan on passing by again. read more

Ok.... We flew in and once we got to our hotel we could see the oyster bar. Now we freakin love oysters! So, of course we had to go here night one. Upon arrival we got a reservation straight out the gate. May be worrisome to a few but we took it as luck. Once we arrived they weren't ready for us, so we ordered. A few beers from the bar, I was super displeased by the temp of the beer that was pored. One we were seated I ordered a sangria per the waitresses recommendation and ohhh man it was delightful! I expected it to be a bit more chilled of the beer and it just wasn't Once we were seated we ordered a half Frozen of the oysters and the calamari app. Food was honestly par for what I was expecting. If we were going to have one -- and tick it off the list -- we certainly weren't going to fork out $30. The fact that this food stand was by the Walrus and the Carpenter in Seattle was what stood out the most. After all, I wasn't able to go during our trip there. Seating seemed tight, but we were able to secure a spot on the side. What was super astonishing here was the service! To order, all I had to do was lock my gaze onto the server behind the bar and he somehow sensed my intense stare and greeted me animatedly! Not 5 minutes after ordering, he handed us our meal from across the bar. Most people find this place enticing for the lobster roll/ soup combos. We opted for the *Lobster Roll w/ Clam Chowder* combo for ~$27, but just note that you can sample the clam chowder for free from a small steel vat out front. You might want to get the lobster bisque combo because of this! Lobster roll size wasn't extremely impressive, but we actually appreciated the size. Roll was thick and buttered and lobster inside reminded me of a crab salad, but with lobster; it was decent. Clam chowder was a delight, although not as meaty, I would say. Picking a place to eat can be tough especially when you aren't craving something particular. It'd be nice top have tons of options of different cuisines, all under the same roof, about 535 feet long.....yup, we're talking Quincy Market. The largest food hall in New England, the Quincy Market Food Colonnade is located at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. This isn't the classic McDonald's, Panda Express, Sbarros food court (I'll still hit the chicken teriyaki from Panda Express). Not including the dining outside the food hall, there are over 30 different vendors slinging everything from clams to cupcakes, lobster rolls to lo mein, pizza to paninis, you get it. The second you step through the double doors, you're gonna smell some amazing stuff. Trudge your way through the hordes of bodies and you can window shop some great potential meals. We'll eventually hit them all, but today we are going to start with one of the few vendors that has its own seating, Walrus & The Carpenter Oyster Bar. Walrus and The Carpenter is a small sit down bar that sits about 10 people. If you see a stool open, grab it! You'll be grateful for the break from the madness that can be Quincy Market. Bartender was very nice and attentive. They've got some wine and a few beers on tap. I went with beer, an Irish Red (can't go wrong). Now for the big pick, food. Its a seafood place, product is fresh daily. The other patrons at the bar had all different picks and they all looked good. Decided to keep it classic New England and got a lobster roll, that big ole' sign nudged me in the right direction. The lobster quality looked great, couldn't wait to get into it. Toasted bun? Yes please. A slight hiccup would have to be the portion. I've paid the same or less for some monster lobster rolls. Maybe I'm so 'Merica that I need a large portion of everything, but this seemed a bit puny. For what it lacked in size, made up for with substance. This roll had me thanking Poseidon for blessing the oceans with tasty lobsters. The lobster is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The bun was solid to hold it all but light at the same time, not soggy at all. Who doesn't love Cape Cod Potato Chips on the side? Nice bit of crunch between bites. Wash it all down with a beer, heaven. The first stop in Quincy Market is a win. Walrus & The Carpenter Oyster Bar will give you a great taste of quality seafood in New England in a unique setting. Satisfying flavor will help you forgive the portion. Great excuse to walk five feet in any direction and get some dessert after your meal. Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market is another quintessential Bostonian must-see, and of course, when in the market, many are on the quest for the best deal on a lobster roll or a cup of chowder (or, as we like to say it here, chowdah). I've lived in Boston for four years and can honestly say that I've had a lobster roll fewer times than that, but we happened to be craving it one day, and thus began our search here. With high demand, the restaurants in the market don't necessarily have incentive to distinguish themselves too much in terms of price, so most of the deals that we found were in similar price ranges. We did get drawn to the Oyster Bar because they were offering free samples of chowder, and it tasted pretty good. They had a deal for a lobster roll and cup of chowder or bisque for $21, which isn't too bad. It was a decent light lunch for two. The line / ordering is a bit hectic, since there's no formal one and if you're politely waiting your turn you'd get ignored in favor of louder or more direct patrons. That was what took up the majority of the time: once I was finally able to get my order in, the food itself came out very quickly. To be a bit different, we got the lobster roll and the lobster bisque, instead of the clam chowder we'd already tried. The roll was good but on the smaller side. The bisque, on the other hand, was a pretty generous portion, and I couldn't finish it fast enough. Would have given it four stars, but I'm docking it down to 3.5 because service-wise, they could have done a better job at managing the chaos, noticing who was waiting their turn, and communicating with each other and with customers. Too many locals I've heard from talk about how Quincy market is sort of like Boston's Times Square... a place that you try to avoid if you're local. While many eateries in here are remarkably unimpressive, there are a couple worth their salt. Thanks to the free sample of chowder, I found out this was one of them after I sat down for a proper bowl of chowder. The soup was fresh! Glassy potatoes were nowhere to be found! I am also fond of the fact that there was actual clam in the soup. To be fair, the pieces were very small, but not everyone loves a chunky soup with large (read: whole) clams. My critique here is that I would have liked there to be a little more clam overall. In terms of consistency, the soup wasn't overly watery, but at the same time it wasn't the thick deliciousness I used to get at The Porthole in Lynn (R.I.P. - closing to make way for condos). The service was polite and very quick! For drinking I asked for tap water which was given to me without a problem. Cleanliness-wise they did their best to keep the area and counter spic and span. My only other "gripe" is regarding the price. Even for Quincy Market, almost $8 for a cup of soup does seem a little steep. Though, had I gotten the bundle, I may have looked at this a little different. Will be back to try the rolls as well! read more

Stopped by for a quick bite while walking through Faneuil Hall. They had a clam chowder for people to sample. The free sample had lots of clams and the paid-for one didn't disappoint either. We also had a lobster roll. While I normally would prefer a cold lobster roll, the warm one was very good. We also had some fresh oysters (which, candidly, I am not really sure how to evaluate other than that they did not have a funky taste and didn't make me sick).
