Hot Buttered Maine Lobster Roll New England Clam Chowda
    Michelle P.

This food hall was extremely busy. Definitely touristy (almost $50 for one meal) but the food was pretty good overall. We shared a manager's special with a hot lobster roll, a cup of clam chowder, and a small drink. The roll was quite tasty and the chowder was just ok for me. I felt it needed more pepper and it was more like broth than a creamy chowder.

Quincy market is busy but this stall always knows how to help with crowds. There were people sort of standing around but not ordering, but there was actually no line! Go right up to the counter. The soup was ready right away, I had 0 wait. Delicious!!! The onions on top are perfect. Always opt to sit outside because it's chaos in Quincy market. Definitely overpriced too but that's anything in Quincy market.

I have to agree with the recent reviews--this place feels overpriced for what it offers. I was especially excited to try the clam chowder, but it ended up being pretty mediocre and not particularly memorable.

While exploring Quincy Market we stopped for a bite to eat at Boston Chowda. Naturally I had to try their New England Clam chowder. It was nice & rich with good chunks of chowder & potatoes. There were crispy fried onions on top. I skipped the bread bowl because honestly just wanted to enjoy the taste of the chowder. Well I gobbled it down pretty quick! So good! 2025-83

Wow! I'm not a big seafood person but had to give east coast chowda a try. The lobster roll is a must as well. The chowda was good! Boyfriend said the east coast chowda is slightly better than the west. The lobster roll was pretty good as well. Definitely recommend anyone visiting to give this a try.

Saw this place on YouTube in quincy market. A roll of eateries, you will find this place. Got the chowda and lobster butter roll. Chowda was more like soup. It was flavorful but would like it thicker. Lobster butter roll. Sadly to say, it wasn't the hype I thought it would be. Grilled roll with buttered lobster. Pros: Nice big piece of lobster in the roll and a lot of clams in the chowda. Cons: I liked the big pieces of lobster but the butter made the roll soggy. Would like the chowda thicker. Would I got back? Maybe not.

Lobster special comes with clam chowder. Disappointing, lack of flavor

Got the lobster special which was the hot buttered lobster roll and clam chowder. The lobster roll itself was around $42, and for that price it was quite disappointing. Not much flavor, if any, and tasted a bit old Clam chowder was pretty good, but it's a small cup Overall not worth the price

I tried the chowda and it was really flavorful. I'd definitely give them a visit next time in town.

Boston Chowda has a catchy name! I tried the clam chowda bowl, New England style, at the Faneuil Hall location. They also serve corn chowda. This is a walk up and order style location. Soups are available for viewing in pots within their glass case. The sourdough bread bowl was fantastic. I absolutely loved every bite. The soup within was just ok, tbh. The servers were friendly and fun. Being that this is a touristy location, that is important. It's worth a try. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of my soup bowl. Next time!

While exploring Quincy Market, we decided to stop by the Boston Chowda stand. I ordered their New England Clam Chowder. It was delicious and rich. Not the best I've ever had, but I did enjoy it and I would recommend it!

Pricy but good. Total was $61.39 for one combo, with an extra pop + tip. We at the Boston Chowda Company located in Faneuil Hall Market place. It was packed inside and there was a line to get food but they keep you moving. Service was friendly and the this location is set up booth style in the market/hall. We had this on our list of things to try in Boston. We split the combo, which had their Award Winning New England Clam Chowder and a hot Maine Lobster Roll. It was good and dining in Faneuil Hall market place was an experience in itself.

    Lobster roll and clam chowder

I loved both the hot buttered lobster roll and the clam chowder. Coming from the west coast, we don't get seafood like this. I was really impressed with the quality.

Overpriced tourist trap with decent New England clam chowder, lobster butter roll with a coke close $50.00 & asking for tip. I do understand the inflation, but this is extreme. For a experience but never again

Hi, is the chowdah gluten free?

As far as I know, there are potato and cream inside of this soup. Also, they give you oyster crackers to put on it. So I think, we can't say it's 100% gluten-free.

    Do they deliver?

I'm not sure if the actual establishment delivers but I've gotten it delivered through UberEats before. Hope that helps!

My mom was hungry so we opted to get a bowl of chowder to go and we put our name down at the restaurant next door who was UBER dog friendly and even gave my girl a dog bone when we checked in, and lots of pets. Unless you wanna wait an hour or so, it's best to arrive 30min before they open to beat the rush. It's incredibly cramped and rushed inside, and you may need to share a table with others if you're a smaller party. Food is quite pricey but well worth it. We ordered the oysters (they've got a variety so you can choose), clam chowder, lobster roll, cioppino, and johnnycake. Oysters were fine, but the clam chowder was absolutely dismal. Not sure what happened, especially since it's so highly rated, but it was extremely watery and almost completely unseasoned. It could've definitely used salt at the very least. If I didn't know it was from Neptune, I'd have given it a 2/10. To my relief, the lobster roll was the total opposite. Succulent, juicy, heavenly. It was like being in Maine. The cioppino was also very good. The Johnnycake was an interesting but fun way to end the meal. It's a sweet pancake-like cornmeal covered in a syrupy glaze and topped with smoked bluefish paste, crème fraiche and caviar. I've never had anything like it. Nothing was super overpriced, but I personally prefer next door (Paulini's), which is much cheaper and while it isn't as good, it also doesn't require waiting in an hour in line. However, I think Neptune's is definitely worth a try as long as you're willing to wait in line.

We walked into a small, cozy dining room with a marble bar and a bustling atmosphere that creates the feeling of a classic neighborhood oyster bar, the kind of place where the energy of the room is as much a part of the experience as the food itself. Despite its popularity, the restaurant has built a reputation for serving some of the city's best oysters and lobster rolls, and the intimate setting adds to the sense of occasion. The seafood is the main reason to visit. The raw oyster selection changes regularly and includes a wide variety of East and West Coast oysters, with a menu that describes the flavor profile of each one to make choosing easier. We ordered a mix and found each oyster fresh and clean, with distinct brininess and texture that reflected the descriptions. The hot buttered lobster roll is the restaurant's signature dish, served overflowing with chunks of fresh lobster tossed in warm butter inside a toasted roll, and the richness of the butter paired perfectly with the sweetness of the meat. The traditional cold lobster roll with mayonnaise is equally popular if you prefer something lighter, and the clam chowder is another standout, with a creamy base and generous chunks of clam that made it one of the better versions we have had. The Johnnycake topped with oysters and smoked sturgeon is one of the restaurant's most unique dishes, combining textures and flavors in a way that felt distinct from the more classic options. Everything feels carefully prepared, with an emphasis on high-quality seafood rather than overly complicated flavors. The menu also includes fresh fish, shellfish, and daily specials, making it worth exploring beyond the restaurant's most famous items. Portions are generous, especially when it comes to the lobster dishes, though the prices reflect both the quality of the ingredients and the restaurant's popularity. The biggest thing to plan around is the wait. Neptune Oyster does not take reservations, and lines often begin forming well before opening. The restaurant is also quite small, so seating is limited and tables are close together. Visiting early in the day or dining as a smaller party can sometimes reduce the wait, but it is still worth expecting some time in line before being seated. Neptune Oyster remains one of Boston's essential seafood destinations. The fresh oysters, exceptional lobster roll, and intimate oyster bar atmosphere make it a memorable experience, even if getting a table requires some patience. If you are looking for classic New England seafood and do not mind waiting, it is easy to see why this restaurant has become one of the city's most iconic dining spots.
