Sagres is a wonderful restaurant. Make sure to make a reservation. I have been a few times but last night went and though we did not have a reservation, we were able to get seats at the bar. I had a delicious house Portuguese wine that was fantastic. My favorite thing is the Camarao Mocambique . The sauce is phenomenal make sure to soak it up with bread provided. I got the Mariscada for entree and large portions. I took half home and had a wonderful lunch with it the next day. I also had the traditional flan for dessert that was good. On another visit I got the fresh goat cheese which is amazing. You cannot go wrong with a meal here. The setting is nice low light and good for conversations with friends and family. read more

Finally made it back to Sagres after a long time, and it didn't disappoint. We were a party of four and we split two seafood appetizers mainly with quahog that were excellent. Each of had some form of cod that was delicious and the servings were so big we took some home . And the service couldn't have been better. Can't wait to go back. read more

As a Portuguese woman, I dislike saying this - but this was one of the worst meals I've ever had! I ordered carne d'espito (marinated beef broiled on a spit) medium rare. Have had it many times in other restaurants and the marinated meat is usually great. Here, the meat was burnt on the outside, dry & without a hint of pink inside or marinade outside. It was over-salted and with too much pepper. Yet the onions & peppers on the spit were hard & barely cooked, as were the french fries accompanying the dish. How the chef managed all these mistakes in timing In beyond me. Very, very disappointing & not what one gets at other Portuguese restaurants, where carne d'espito is a common item on the menu. Went on a Sunday afternoon, got the Shrimp Alhino as an appetizer...delicious, we had to get extra bread to soak up that delicious garlic wine sauce. Yum! We had been to the restaurant two weeks earlier for a Birthday party and on special was this bone in pork chop in garlic and wine sauce. It was so good that we had to go back for more....OMG this is one of the most delicious dishes I have ever tasted. It really should be added to the menu. read more

This was my fourth visit here, this time with family on a Wednesday and it was fairly busy. It is my first visit since fire destroyed the original building. There is minimal private parking but you can find a spot on the street and take a short walk. The interior is beautiful and the bar is amazing. They have a great wine selection and it's well stored. We were greeted and they were ready for 11 of us. Service was very good all night. The bartender is a gem. What fell way short of previous visits was the quality of the food. The paela contained chewy calamari, bony fish pieces and just a few pieces of chourizo. The broth was good for dunking but needs less onion and more garlic. One guest's potatoes were "chewy" and the waiter indicated they weren't happy with their potato supplier...? Change the side dish maybe? The jumbo shrimp in the Mozambique were small 41/60s not the 16/20 they should have been (Camarao Mocambique) Clams were generally larger and therefore more chewy than the baby clams we expect in a typical littleneck dish (Ameijoas Bulhao de Pato) The french fries were a soggy mess. On the plus side, the salmon (Salmao Grelhado) was fresh and moist. Portuguese rolls were plentiful but may have been yesterday's delivery. Overall a fun night with family but not going to rush back here next visit. read more

Our Portuguese friends call this "the best but most expensive spot..." We had an early family holiday lunch - party of 7. Nice space and EXCELLENT service. Started out with cocktails - most ordered the passion fruit margarita that was tasty and not short on the mezcal. Appetizers were kale soup and Mozambique shrimp (the latter as an order of 2 was plenty for all...). Entrees were steaks, rib eye, salmon, lobster, lamb, and paella (the latter more like a seafood stew). All were tasty and HUGE portions ( a few leftovers were bagged up). Finally, coffees and we split the passion fruit pudding and tiramisu. All happy campers and with tip - $600. A bargain. You will not be disappointed. read more

I have been to the Azores on two occasions and loved the Azores food. I live in Peabody which has a big Azores population and have been to the trackside and other Azores b restraints on the north shore, but nothing really measured up till I made the 2 hour drive to Fall River and went to Sagres. That friendly Azores hospitality, excellent food and great wine. We had the a number of dishes which were all good but the Peixe A Portuguesa was amazing. I would have licked the bowl if I was home! Hands down BEST Portuguese food in the area. Lovely decor inside. Great service. Street parking unless you are handicapable because they reserve their small parking lot for handicap parking (love that!). Portuguese rolls to start. They have a full bar. I had a fish with cod, calamari, clams, shrimp, scallops in a broth with rice!! If I had a straw, I would of sucked up it's essence. Great and shareable easily. Honestly, if you had a group of 4, I would order this as an appetizer to eat or perfect for main dish with plenty of leftovers. Portuguese steak was delicious. The food is incredible. The octopus dinner was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The pcs are huge. The steak was cooked perfectly. It was so tender and great seasoning. Service was ok. When your waiter walks by at least 5 or 6 times looking at anything but your table it can be a bit annoying. At its best, Portuguese food is truly delicious. In Fall River, lots of people appreciate it. (It reflects Portugal's complex history and maritime exploration of other cultures, connects the land and the sea in imaginative ways, is really tasty, and has never threatened anyone with weight loss). We were driving up the coast on a Wednesday afternoon to Plymouth Rock after dropping our daughter off at college, where we have never been. We just googled and saw that this restaurant was open. Boy, were we in for a treat! My seafood rice dish and my husband's pork and clam dish were seasoned perfectly. We did not finish our entrees because we wanted to try the flan, and it was done perfectly, too. When we got home that evening, we read that the Fall River Portuguese community was the biggest outside Portugal! No wonder. As I'm writing this review, I'm looking forward to finishing my entree for dinner a day later. This Portuguese restaurant nestled in a beautiful area surrounded by old world architecture and the water was the perfect venue for our event. The clean modern decor was welcoming and inviting. The service here was impeccable and accommodating, every request was fulfilled with urgency and understanding. Our meal consisted of pork loins, chicken and fish. Recently dined at this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The food was very good & authentic Portuguese cuisine. There were 8 of us and everyone enjoyed their meal. It appears they also offer specials that serves those who may not favor Portuguese food.the baccalau Gomes dish was delicious. Three had the lamb chop special which all enjoyed & one the rib eye steak which was cooked as requested. For dessert we all shared the tiramisu & the flan which both very tasty & enjoyed by everyone. The staff was very friendly & attentive. Atmosphere was friendly & homey. Servings are plentiful & just about everyone took home leftovers. Prices very reasonable. I've never had Portuguese food but at least 10 restaurants popped up in the vicinity of Fall River so I picked Sagres. The Portuguese soup was flavorful but the noodles were a bit mushy for my liking. I'm sure they just soaked up all the liquid from sitting in the pot. I also read the portions were huge and the folks next to me who ordered steaks had their plates piled with meat, fries, veggies and even an egg! My eyes feasted on that so I opted for the camarao alhino app for my main meal. Holy cow was it good. I could drink the picante broth (I see you Franks Red Hot ). The butter soaked up the spicy garlicky goodness just so. Chefs kiss. I also opted for the Sagre beer. Just because. Not a bad place at all..... I actually hate Portuguese food and was dragged here but surprisingly there was DUCK ON THE specials menu and I tried it. I've had foi gras (SP?) from Fred & Steve's, but never had duck before and tbh it was very good, it was a little hard to cut due to how fatty it was but it was juicy and delectable. The flavor was really nice. The greenbeans with garlic & the mashed potatoes were divine. I had two espresso martinis, top tier. Service was great. Our server Keith was at the top Of his game, very good at his job and very knowledgeable and polite. I don't ever go to Fall River unless I have jury duty, but if they keep the duck I may return!!! Did I choose Sagres because it's also the name of Portugal's national beer? Yes, because I'm easily swayed. To be fair, Sagres is also an important area of the Algarve, but I wasn't thinking about that when I chose. I was in a bit of a rush, and I couldn't order as much as I wanted, despite not having a full meal in almost 24 hours. And I couldn't have a Sagres either. But I could enjoy the ambiance and service of this pretty, welcoming restaurant. It's very nice inside and service was excellent. Sagres is everything you want in a Fall River Portuguese restaurant. My food was delicious. Portuguese bread is the best and these rolls do not disappoint. I should've asked for another. I ordered the peixe a Portuguesa, which is cod (my favorite) with tomatoes, potatoes, herbs, and rice. It was aromatic and delicious. I could eat this dish again and again. The portion was huge, so I had leftovers, which I appreciated. Parking is tight but you should be able to find something within a few blocks. I'm a North Shore girl and that's where my family lives, so don't know how often I'll get back, but I really hope to return and urge anyone nearby to try Sagres. read more

What a great spot! Happened upon this place for lunch over the holidays and was luck to grab seats at the bar. The portion sizes are ENORMOUS and the food is delicious! I had the peixe portuguesa, which was an enormous piece of properly cooked cod with potatoes,vegetables, and rice. I ate all of the cod and some of the potatoes and I was stuffed. We had a tasty and reasonably priced bottle of Portuguese wine. The bartender was friendly and the service was prompt. With the mister being Portuguese, we've wanted to venture into Fall River to explore more Portuguese restaurants than what RI has to offer, this didn't disappoint! From what the reviews said, parking can be difficult as the small lot behind the restaurant is mainly handicap parking, all other options are street parking. We went on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and found parking right up the street. The entrance is on Mulberry St and not Columbia, so don't walk up to the front to enter. The restaurant was about 1/3 full so we were seated right away - very nice ambience, not sure if they had any renovations done but the place was very nicely decorated with a nice modern feel to it. Our waiter was very friendly but kept his distance just enough to give us our privacy. We started off with calamari - seasoned very nicely and not overly battered, came with what seemed like a Portuguese Buffalo sauce that complimented the calamari perfectly. He had the Carne de Porco e Figado a Acoreana (pork/liver with potatoes) and I had the Peixe A Portuguesa (cod and potatoes in a tomato based sauce). This is probably the best Portuguese food we've had to date. Forget Portuguese, the meal itself was stellar. Why had we waited so long! We can't wait to come back and try other things. read more

I went to Sagres for lunch on a Saturday and the food was excellent. The portions were massive considering the price and had more than enough for another meal afterwards. The Monkfish special that they had was especially delicious. The ambiance was quite nice and the restaurant itself was comfortable and well decorated. Wife & I came here after the Portuguese festival in nearby New Bedford. This experience was very good, but not as memorable as when we first visited, in their location before the place burned down. It's now a vast locale, overwhelming Columbia St. The menu is a bit bared-down from that of nearby Estoril's (closed due to vacation--nice!). Yes it's definitely a good idea to make a reservation. The food was amazing our group had a little of everything. Salmon, paella, little necks , calamari , veal and filet. All was prepared perfectly.
