Very very disappointing! I came here during one of the Euro soccer games to watch Portugal play and I was the only one at the bar. I somehow still had horrible service and I had to constantly call over the server to do anything. He would watch me finish my drink, go off for ten minutes and slowly make his way back to see if anyone else came to the bar. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place two stars is only because the food is really really good. Probably one of the best Portuguese restaurants in Fall River food wise, but service wise it's horrendous! read more

Excellent food, service and atmosphere is 5 star! It was our first time here. Definitely didn't disappoint. Exceptional service! We were seated right away. Yes it's definitely a good idea to make a reservation. The food was amazing our group had a little of everything. Salmon, paella, little necks , calamari , veal and filet. All was prepared perfectly. Probably would be more like 4.5 stars but rounding up for good measure. We came with my parents who had some gift certificates and had a wonderful time. Located on Columbia St. Parking can be challenging. We were able to find street parking a block away which was perfectly fine. Upon entering the restaurant we were thoroughly impressed with the decor and ambiance. They have beautiful light fixtures. The host greeted us gruffly and since we had reservations we were ok to be seated. A group of 3 arrived in back of us and they were told they couldn't get a table they were booked until 9, but they could sit at the bar. We were unsure of what type of reception we would be receiving once seated. Our waiter was much more pleasant and gave us plenty of time to choose drinks and food. My husband never received a bread plate or menu, despite asking for it. The food took a while to come but we were having a wonderful time chatting that we didn't even mind. And the food was worth the wait. My parents and I all ordered Bife Luis medium well and it was delicious. My husband ordered the Portuguese steak which was medium rare and cooked exactly so. We loved that we weren't rushed and it was an evening out, and loved the food. We saw many people here celebrating or dining with families and it seems like many come to spend a while and relax. Prices were on the higher side so we will save coming back for more of a special occasion. Great spot in the city! read more

Upon planning a day-trip to Fall River MA, my first thought was to see if there was a respectable gastropub worth visiting after completing our purchase objective. The one establishment labeled as a gastropub that came up in my search seemed to lack the gastro component. However, a vast number of Portuguese restaurants blanketed the area, and that is a cuisine that is sadly lacking in upstate NY. Now came the difficulty of selecting which one to visit. Narrowing it down to three, I let my wife choose. We both were quite pleased with her choice of Sagres. The atmosphere of the restaurant and bar area reminded me of a modern higher-end establishment with a contemporary décor - floor to ceiling wine bottle displays, indirect lighting above drop ceilings, manufactured stone bar top, and generally clean lines throughout. My wife was happy to see that they offered half-bottles of wine. She chose the Castello D'Alba Douro 2016 ($12). A pleasant white that was not too sweet and whose flavor altered slightly, still in a positive manner, once she began drinking it with her meal. With a limited draft list of very standard American brews, I decided to stay local and have a pint of Narragansett lager ($5). It was surprisingly decent and probably perfect for pairing with my entrée choice of Grilled Octopus ($22). Three large tentacles were finished in the sauté pan with olive oil, garlic, and roasted red and green peppers. It was then topped with sliced onions and served with roasted potatoes and olives. The octopus had beautiful grill-char on its edges and was cooked to perfection. The tiny ends were crispy while the balance was tender. Overall, a beautiful blend of flavors. My wife ordered the Bacalhau A Gomes de Sa ($20) - baked salted codfish, onion, potato, olive oil, garlic and seasoning garnished with olives, fresh parsley, and a chopped boiled egg. A delicious combination of flavors that my wife exclaimed would be super easy to prepare. (We'll see!) I don't want to overlook the Scallops Mocambique ($17) that we ordered from the Day's Specials menu for our appetizer. Six large bivalves in a deliciously seasoned broth that we also soaked our Portuguese rolls in to avoid having any of it go back to the kitchen. We did manage to save room for dessert by reserving some of our entrées for the next day's dinner. A simple Crème Brûlée ($8) for my wife was good but average. My Pudim Bolacha Maria ($8) was a rich cream pudding with bits of Maria cookies within and on top. Delicious! A Double Espresso ($5) and a cup of Coffee ($2) and we were ready to hit the road home. Our server Sasha(2) was pleasant, efficient, informative and very patient with our lack of familiarity with the Portuguese cuisine. Restrooms were modern and clean. There appeared to be private dining facilities on an upper floor. While we parked on the street, they did have some parking spots on the side of the building. read more

Boa Tarde... we wandered into The Sagres to kick off the weekend and was greeted by a wonderful host. With a little charming persuasion he found us a table for two amongst all the reserved tables. There were so many delectable choices to pick from which made the decision a challenge. However we made our selections and were definitely not disappointed. I always go for seafood. This time a combination of cod, shrimp and Little necks in a mouth watering sauce. Complimented with rice potato and veggie medley. My husband always goes for the beef. This was a surf and turf consisting of 3 filet Mignons on a screwer with grilled shrimp. Bingo ... a winner for sure. As good as the food was the service was amazing. This was my first time dining at Sagres. We had reservations for a party of 6 as we were celebrating a friends birthday. First things first, located in Fall River, Mass it was extremely difficult on a Friday evening to find parking. The small lot was completely full. It was pouring outside so having to park a couple blocks away was a bit of an inconvenience. Our party was sat immediately by the host at the front. The ambiance was nice with plenty of seating. It was VERY VERY loud. It was a little overwhelming at first but eventually you get used to it. It took a little over 10 minutes for our server to realize we were sat at his section. Luckily by then we all knew what we wanted to order for drinks and entrees. He apologized for the wait and quickly served us our drinks. They have a pretty large drink and wine menu which was nice. The fellas in our group were happy they were able to order the beers they preferred. Two of the women in our party ordered the Salmon and both were very pleased. The Man of the hour ordered the steak tips served on a skewer wrapped in bacon and loved it. He did mention the shrimp that comes with the dish were way over cooked though. The other gentlemen in our party ordered the steak and said it was cooked to perfection! My husband ordered a rice dish that was LOADED with different types of seafood. This dish was HUGE!!! It could feed a family of four in itself. He didn't love it but he did enjoy it. I ordered the duck special. It was delicious despite being slightly over cooked. Because we had a party of 6 our server informed us when handing over the check that gratuity had already been applied which to be honest I thought was kinda rude. I mean let's be honest, if your service sucks why should you get a 20% tip??? Granted in this case we were happy to tip our server 20% but had his service been sub par I would have argued them forcing the 20% gratuity on us. The best part though was the price for the final bill. Our bill came to $260.00 before the 20% gratuity was added. Not bad for a party of 6... Our friends visit here often as they live close by and while my husband and I both enjoyed it, there's a local pub close by that we'd most likely choose over this place when in the area. read more

I went here for my birthday and felt like I was inconveniencing the waitstaff. My birthday was in the middle of the week but I still called to make a reservation. When we got there, the hostess seemed so angry. She grabbed the menus so we followed her and then she plopped them on the table and walked away. The table had no settings or table cover and she said nothing - no "your waitress will be right over" or "enjoy your meal". The rest of the meal felt the same way - like we were a bother. This makes me sad because I used to love Sagres but now I feel like I need to find another go-to Portuguese restaurant in Fall River because of the poor customer service. It does seem to be a theme with other Yelpers that they too felt rushed and out of place. read more

Dining room is noisy, bar is loud when crowded, and in my experience, the wait staff has frequently seemed uncomfortably overwhelmed; but some dishes -- like the octopus, for example -- are so amazing that I willingly return, despite the restaurant's shortcomings. Sagres was founded decades ago by a brilliant chef who has, unfortunately, since retired. While no longer as uniformly fabulous as it was during his tenure, the authenticity of the food pays homage to his legacy, and the generally consistent excellence of the food is marred only by the unfortunate fact that steak here is occasionally overcooked. The wine selection, however, continues to evolve and improve as time goes by, which is always a very good thing. read more

Really delicious food and attentive service. The specials one Tuesday night included fancy cuts of beef, rack of lamb, and roasted duck. But I opted for the traditional Portuguese dishes, which is what drew me here. Littleneck clams bathed in oil and garlic made an awesome first impression as an appetizer. Next came a half-sized appetizer portion of the grilled octopus (polvo in Portguese) served the same way, swimming in oil and garlic, with cubes of potatoes, olives and sliced onion and green pepper. I found myself picking every generous bit of garlic out of the serving dish with a spoon it was that tasty. The polvo was an ample meal by itself. But I had to make room for my main course of bacalhau asado, large pieces of baked salt cod, served in oil and garlic, with olives and whole boiled potatoes. Sagres was half full on a Tuesday night, but I would make reservations if I were to come back on a weekend. There is a lot of mediocre Portuguese food on the South Coast, but Sagres is in a class of its own and worth going out of the way for. read more

Love going to Sagres! They are very accommodating to vegan/vegetarians, unlike other portuguese places in the city where you are stuck with a salad. They can make you a wonderful vegetable Paella that is not on the menu! Their portions are enough for a family. I can get three meals out of one order of Paella. Their prices are reasonable for what you get! The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is always pleasant. If you go... try the Maria Cookie dessert (not sure of the Portuguese name) but it is delicious! read more

Every time we're in Portsmouth, RI, we find a different restaurant in Tiverton, Portsmouth, or Fall River. Tonight it was Sagres on Columbia in Fall River. Parking is a problem but if you're possessed, driving around will get you a rewarded spot. We parked in the hill. Easy going down before supper, a struggle after. We had reservations on a Friday night at six, got there s bit early but seated immediately. It is a modern restaurant with an enormous wine selection. Irene and I split a bottle of the house red. Very nice and light. The tables are bare. I like linen table cloths like we did at Espiril. Here they put down a large square of paper. I know it saves money but linen is nice. Andrea was our server. No idle chit chat here but focused on good and efficient service. Another server brought us the set ups and wonderful Portuguese split top rolls. Wonderful. I had the Portuguese soup. Every culture had vegetable soup. You can put everything and anything in it. Sagres is no different. It came hot and loaded with vegetables. It did need a small amount of salt but delicious. I ordered the veal marsala; Irene had the cod. The portions are generous. My break was tender, wonderful mashed, and steamed vegetable filled out my plate. We had to leave room for dessert. I had the flan, it's a square, different than the round Spanish version. It has a different mouth feel. With a dollop of whipped cream, it was outstanding. This is a $$+ restaurant. Beautiful Portuguese restaurant in Fall River and a perfect place for lunch after visiting Battleship Cove. Recently renovated with modern and artistic touches, though they need a grander entrance instead of just the side door. You walk into an expansive room with a modern bar and a wall of wine, which is pretty cool. As soon as we were seated, a basket of fresh Portuguese rolls appeared with that unique pigtail on the ends. As an appetizer, we started with the Camaroa Moçambique, shrimp sautéed with garlic, lemon, and crushed red pepper. It came boiling hot, bubbling wildly in a porcelain dish. We had to have another basket of rolls to sop up that delicious sauce once it cooled down enough. For entrees, we had Carne de Porco A Antelejana, classic pork & clams in Portuguese cuisine, Peixe Antonio (stuffed cod fillet) and Paelha A Valencia. All dishes were generous and seasoned well, though the pork & clams was heavy on the potatoes. My only complaint was that the Paelha was swimming in oil and the half lobster in it was the smallest chicken lobster I have ever seen. The tail meat was barely the size of my finger. read more

I loved my birthday dinner at Sagres Restaurant. The restaurant is nice looking and trendy but the main menu is very traditional. They had a daily special menu which was a nice addition with a New England & Italian vibe including clam chowder and delicious sounding pasta dishes. We stuck to the traditional menu, I had grilled octopus, my daughter, chicken skewer and my husband had chicken prepared Alentejana style. We had fried calamari for an appetizer & my daughter had the Portuguese kale soup. Everything was really delicious and came out nice and hot, I cannot forget to mention that the bread is amazing!!! They serve the best Portuguese roles we've had in the area....and they're not even served warm, they're just good. My daughter also had tiramisu for dessert and my husband and I had an after dinner brandy and I enjoyed an espresso with mine. Just great! Service was good as well, our server was very attentive and kind. We made reservations, I figured on a Sunday at 6pm it would be better to think ahead although we probably would have been ok just showing up, since we were only a party of 3. The restaurant was busy so I'm glad we did make the reservation. Parking is not the greatest, the parking lot is very small. Excellent food, and reasonably-priced bottles of wine! I had monkfish and shrimp with rice, and it was delicious. We were hoping for a few more appetizer options (chorizo, maybe?), but no biggie. The soup was fantastic. And the chicken and clams was a nice alternative to the traditional pork and clams. The atmosphere is a bit modern and stark, and the overhead light at our table (right next to the star scape) was annoying bright and flickering. Wow what a great meal! We were traveling to Provincetown and stopped here for lunch. The interior is so nice, lots of room, good lighting, and table linens make it classy. We were greeted immediately, seated and started reviewing the menu. We came here for Portuguese food, and man were we impressed. So many great choices! We started with the Espanhola, a steaming pot of clams in a rich spicy tomato bouillabaisse. Omg the sauce was so delicious, and spicy. Plus the sliced onions and peppers with the clams added more flavor. For entrees we both had cod dishes, Peixe a Portuguesa and Peixe Antonio. The first one was spectacular, a nice serving of baked cod with a similar tomato based fish stock and soft roasted potatoes. The Peixe Antonio was grilled cod and finished under a broiler with lemon, garlic, and white wine. Also very tasty, but that tomato red sauce (bouillabaisse) was the flavor bomb, and I generously topped my cod to add more spicy flavor. Sagres is fantastic and I want to return. I was taken on an incredible dinning experience! I heard the food was perfect and now I'm convinced, and can share with you. Very nice inside so you can dress if you like because your going to be served like a king! First we tried the appetizer "Camarao Mocambique" just to dip all the bread they give. I am a loyal customer at Sagres for the past 5 years. I have always treated out my friends and family at this place whenever they came to visit the town. I have alway promoted this place as the best Portuguese restaurant in town. Food and service have been ALWAYS good. Today (7/29/18)I had a reservation at 4:30pm. The reservation was for 5 people made under the name Paul. The food and everything was good as always but when we received our check our server tried to trick us by adding $10 at the end saying it was a "sharing fee". When I asked him what the sharing fee was he said it's a charge for sharing foods. He charged us $5 each for 2 people, which made no sense. I was about to ask for the manager but he backed off saying he will take it off this time. He said the sharing fee was something they have been doing for a long time and probably the past servers forgot to charge. It made no sense at all. We had 5 people, ordered 3 entrees and 1 appetizer. As you may know, the seafood portion in Sagres is big enough to share. This is the first time we have been charged for a sharing fee and when I searched on yelp, no one mentioned about it. I am not sure if I want to return to this restaurant but just wanted to share my experience and warn others about the sharing fee. Came here with a group of 8. Ordered a Medium Rare steak. After an hour or so wait, when I got my steak it was Well-done. I was the only one ordering beef, the meat was tough, sides were meh, and realized I should go somewhere else in the future... My friends and I talking about this place later, came to the determination we were expecting a richer, bolder, spicy flavor to our food and it was just bland overall. With a rich red Portuguese soup, you would expect them to explode with flavor. Instead my friend referenced it as a bad tomato soup. My steak had great garlic flavor to it, but cooked grey all the way through, I felt like I was sawing a log. Bife Luis, or whatever it is called, medium rare, is what I wanted. What I got was a brick with a lot of garlic. I hate eating out with a large group and especially with this long wait for our food, I really did not want to send my steak back and wait another hour for a medium rare steak... While vacationing near Cape Cod, I found this place through Yelp. It's so hard to find a good Portuguese restaurant on the west coast so I was very excited to find Sarges in Fall River, MA. We ordered Camaroa Alhinjo and Camaroa Mocambique for appetizers. For entrees, we ordered Galinha No Espeto, Caldeirda A Portuguese, Mariscada, and Paelha A Valencia. I also ordered a glass of sangria. Everything tasted good but the two shrimp appetizers, the paella, and the complimentary bread were the stars of the show. All the fish and seafood were very fresh but in a couple of the entrees, they were swimming in a pool of broth and bell peppers, which overwhelmed the dishes. The restaurant is very spacious, modern, and clean. As for service, although the place was only a quarter full around 2pm on a Saturday, the waiter didn't check on us much. We had to ask for our water and bread to be refilled. There was plenty of street parking and prices were very reasonable, especially considering the generous amount of food in the entrees. read more
