There were 3 tables celebrating birthdays. The wonderful atmosphere, good vibes, great delicious food, and awesome service all came together in perfect harmony. Your meal comes with a large house salad and bread which I greatly appreciated. We started off with the Mozambique Shrimp appetizer which is a savory, garlicky, and mildly spicy sauce. It is traditionally made by simmering butter, olive oil, copious amounts of garlic, onion, white wine, and Sazón seasoning often with saffron or annatto, finished with hot sauce or peri-peri sauce. ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING! For my meal, I ordered the Bitoque which is a classic, hearty Portuguese dish featuring a medium fried steak topped with a runny fried egg, served with chips, and vegetable rice, all tied together with a flavorful butter, wine, and garlic sauce. Ordered takeout as it was close to closing time for the restaurant. Placed order online which was very easy. I arrived at the specified time and the Hostess was very friendly and went and got the food for me. Even after a short ride home the food was hot and fresh. Came back in again on a Tuesday for a work lunch. The server was so friendly and kind with different recommendations for us. We decided to split the octopus plate and it was delicious, perfectly grilled and tender. I had the acorena bife filets perfect lunch portion as my colleague had the bife a portuguesa and he was in love. Never a doubt in my mind where to go locally for some good ole Portuguese food. We haven't been to Portas in a while so we decided to sit outside and enjoy the courtyard. The waitress was quick to greet us and take our drink order. The peach sangria was delicious! Most recent experience: Place was So loud you can't even think!!! large parties are yelling and dropping F-bombs while kids everywhere and staff doesn't say a word to them. The must unenjoyable dinner I have ever had. The place was so loud, my waiter brought out the wrong meal because he couldn't hear what I ordered, so I had to eat it because I didn't wait another hour while listening to 12 drunk grown men yell. This place gets busy, so plan ahead! I was in town for work and my coworker and I struggled to get a restaurant here, but we were happy that we did. There are 2 sections to the restaurant, one more upscale and one more relaxed, so plan accordingly. I ordered the Espetada a Madeirense. The kabobs came on a big spit of sorts and the dish came with plenty of meat. I enjoyed the crunchy homemade potato chips that came with it. I have been planning a huge Portuguese lunch for our office since February. We asked many in the area about a delicious restaurant that will warm up even the pickiest eaters. After checking on reviews and prices we settled on this stupendous restaurant. Boy am I happy we did. Not only did we come in under budget but they were able to make the most authentic delicious food. Our lunch fed 200 somewhat hard to please employees. Everyone seems to like to be a critic. There were no critics today! Hallelujah! The lunch was ready EARLIER than promised and our management team was pleased with the happy employees. Recommended here as a local Portuguese restaurant which I haven't been to mini so I thought I'd give it a try. The restaurant was not very crowded so I sat at the bar with the locals got me a cold beer and looked at the menu. I decided to go with their Portuguese steak, which comes in a mound of gravy and about a pound of homemade potato chips... A little bit too much but no vegetable. That may have been my fault, but I thought I ordered potatoes and vegetables either way quite tasty. The steak and the gravy to me was actually lacking a little spice... The steak was pretty tough for a ribeye. It cut more like a strip and was a little over cooked for me, but once it soft in the gravy, it was very good and their bread was fantastic. Service was excellent, the atmosphere was fantastic, nice and accommodating and it was good to get out to a different type of restaurant for a change. After many years working in the business I am usually not one to leave a bad review since I know a lot of places will just have an off night, but tonight was just next-level awful. I am forgiving of a lot, especially with a larger group, but just... nope. Will never EVER go back. First, menu was incredibly overpriced, especially for the portions. If you're going to charge $32 for an entree, make it at least edible. We were a large group but it took almost an hour just to get our orders taken. I was driving so was drinking only water, but never once did they offer to refill or replace my empty glass in the 3 hours we were there. It took almost an hour after we ordered just to get our entrees because they all came out at drastically different times, and completely wrong. Some were even cold. Their 'system' in the kitchen must be a total sh*t show because the food runners screwed up everyone's order. Every. Single. One. Do they not number the seats? Communication was totally absent. My order was given away to the person across from me despite my objections. When I said 'this is not what I ordered,' he tried gaslighting me into taking it anyway. 'No, I know what the menu says and this is the wrong entree.' And I had a menu left on the table to prove it. As my companion across the table was digging into the entree I ordered, I waited, and waited. When it finally came out it was nothing but watery and boiling hot. And i mean VERY watery, almost double the liquid volume of the original entree that my friend got, like they just added extra boiling water. The fish was over cooked and completely flavorless, and the clams didn't even open. I tried adding the lemon wedges from my empty water, salt, pepper, hot sauce... still just water. When the server noticed that I was not happy with it, she took it back. She did not offer any replacement or explanation. I assumed she was taking it off the bill. 15 minutes later she comes back with the exact same dish saying 'they put new clams in it' and 'you were supposed to have rice on the side, too.' No. Just... no. It sucked before, now it doubly sucks. Why would I want it back?! The owner/chef should be slapped for recycling entrees. If it goes back in the kitchen, the same plate should NEVER go back out. Unfortunately, my entree disaster was not alone. They switched up and screwed up everyone's orders. The guest of honor (80th birthday) was the LAST to get her order. And she's diabetic. My son was really looking forward to his octopus but could not eat it. They even brought out one steak that no one had ordered with an over easy egg on top. It went back to the kitchen. When they returned with my husband's completely different steak, they had taken the old egg from the previous screwed up entree and flipped it into his. It was ice cold. Eggs are not THAT expensive! No one finished their meal. And hardly anyone brought food home. Sad, depressing. I left hungry. They refused to split the bill for us so we all had to pay cash. So I was shocked to see that they charged me for the meal I couldn't eat. To her credit, the server seemed to be aware of how awful the food and kitchen were. Unfortunately it also seemed like she was avoiding the table and actually gave really dismal service. Some restaurants SHOULD go out of business, and this is one of them. typically I wouldn't leave a review because I'm in the business and understand its not always easy. I also have been a bartender for a very long time, and I would never ever treat customers this way- but, seeing how terrible this experience was, I want people to be aware and maybe even this particular bartender so he could maybe, consider how he treats people. My fiancé and I, decided to come here a third time, as the last two times were pretty good. We enjoy sitting at the bar when we do dine, and noticed two seats available after a couple left. we waited a while, before the bartender came over, as he attempted to put plates and silver down down, and btw did NOT greet us, did NOT say hello, did NOT even make eye contact. I kindly asked if he would mind wiping the area as there was food and liquid on the bar from the previous customers. without saying a word, he snatches the plates and gets a rag to wipe down. absolutely so rude. I thanked him about three times and told him I appreciated it. no response. we then wait another ten minutes for him to yell from the other side of the bar and ask " what are you drinking " at this point I wanted to get up and leave but my partner is much more patient compared to me! we stayed, and I didn't even want the glass of wine I was craving at that point because I was absolutely disgusted at how we're being treated. it's a Saturday night, date night, beautiful weather and out of ALL the great places we could of gone, we came here. to not even a hello, or how are you guys NOTHING. another 20 minutes go by and we are still waiting for our orders to be taken. I kindly asked for bread, the other bartender was much nicer but was tending to service bar. she gave us bread, and we asked if we could possibly put our food order in with her. we ordered a grilled chicken plate and the lombinhos. being Portuguese, growing up on the food and style of cooking and also have been working at a Portuguese restaurant for the last 12 years, I was pretty surprised to see that the food came out with absolutely no sauce on the meat. it was bland, and had no flavor at all. I then had to ask the bartender ( the guy) if we could please have a side of sauce. his irritated response we was, there's an upcharge and it'll be a bit because they make it to order. knowing this, I had no problem at all waiting. two minutes later he comes from the kitchen With a side of sauce and I thanked him, once again more than I should have, because still, no your welcome or no problem, no response at all!!! We were never asked if our food was okay, if we needed anything. we Will never ever ever return to this restaurant! I couldn't believe how absolutely awful this bartender was. I've been to Portas Da Cidade many times over the years. We went for a late lunch on Father's Day. Three if us in our party of six had Shrimp Mozambique and it was the best I've ever had there--plenty of shrimp that were plump and perfectly cooked. On prior visits (in 2024 and before) the shrimp were smaller in size and amount, and a bit overcooked. Our server Nicky was so wonderful. She was friendly, super competent and she really made our experience on a special occasion very enjoyable. I heard there are newer owners--keep up the good work and keep great people like Nicky on your team! read more

For drinks I had the cranberry sangria, which was amazing and very refreshing. Waitress was out standing, came to table quickly to take our order, drinks came out pretty fast. Entree was not brought out until we finished our appetizer. The grilled buttery bread used with the fresh cheese was so good. The fresh cheese is some of the best I have had in Fall River area. The soup was flavorful and everything in the soup was cooked appropriately. When my family makes Cacoila it's the cubed kind not shredded, so I loved the way they prepared the cacoila. It was nice and tender, I loved the flavor of the spices they used had a small kick but I would not call it spicy. The amount of Portuguese fries you get with your meal is enormous! The fish and chips my wife had were a very big portion, cooked perfectly, with a crispy crunchy batter that was not thick and bready. Also the fish was succulent and flaky ! I've been to this fantastic Portuguese restaurant several times and typically sit either at the bar or lounge. Today I chose the dining room. My go-to has always been the swordfish and Portuguese style clams, except tonight. My wife had the shish kebab and I had the octopus. Outstanding! Most importantly, the dining room service is less "harried" and the servers can be more attentive. Ask for Joe on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. He rocks. read more

Went here years ago when they first opened and was disappointed, we'll today we went again with a gift card I received as a wedding gift, we started with calamari as a app and it was greasy and coated with batter that ended up on the plate when you tried to pick it up, my wife had shrimp Mozambique which she stated was ok? Delicious Portuguese food with big portions. The two for one night is a great deal. My friend and myself had the scrod. It was cooked to perfection and lightly breaded. Was NOT overcooked or dry.
