It's a little hole in the wall place that hasn't been updated since the 70s. Sometimes these are the hidden gems with the best food. Unfortunately, not the case. They are located next door to a seafood distributor. I ordered the seafood Mozambique and rice. It was huge, could feed three people, but the seafood was "meh". Good downhome Portuguese food with an emphasis on seafood. It's nothing fancy, but you'll leave satisfied.

Food came out very quickly, restaurant was about half full at the time. Service was fine but not over the top friendly, just to-the-point. Food tasted great, I am not portugese so dont have grandma's cooking to compare it to, but I really liked it. Tasted like home cooking to me. I will come back next time im in Bristol. Octopus stew was great, but you better like octopus because its just octopus, potatoes and broth. read more

Went there on Father's day, service was very slow, out of selected menu items. Ordered 2 of the same drinks, both came out different and tasted different. Pork was very dry. Food was decent but not what was expected. Very disappointed. Will not return. read more

My boyfriend and I got take out fish sandwiches with fries and one small Portuguese soup. PROS- fish was VERY TASTY, fries were hand cut not frozen, tarter sauce was delicious and they included a 'papo seco' bread with the soup. CONS- they forgot the lettuce and tomato on our sandwiches, soup wasn't warm and there was no spoon or napkins in the bag. My BF drank the soup out of the container and liked it very much. All in all, I enjoyed the food and will def go back! Looking forward to trying their other dishes. read more

Visited recently with a party of eight, including an experienced Portuguese diner. We were seated promptly, greeted warmly and provided with fresh bread. This is a small family run restaurant, with all its pluses and minuses. Don't be in a hurry! They have limited wait staff. The food is exceptional; we had a wide variety of dishes, ranging from steak to seafood and everything was well prepared. The house wine (Portuguese) was both tasty and surprisingly inexpensive. I'm not a local guy, but this is the kind of off the beaten path place to go for a great and affordable dining experience. read more

The beautiful seaside town of Bristol has a working class district (Wood St.) where the ethnicity is predominately Azorean-Portuguese. Amazingly, there are not a lot of restaurant selections when it comes to Portuguese food in the area. Café Central is one of the few. It's not going wow you with its décor. When you walk in, you enter the bar area. The restaurant has its own separate room but there is no other way of getting there. If you can get over those nuances....the food is superb. I had, on a few occasions, the Steak marinated in sauce (they call it Moo-ee) topped with a fried egg, fried potato slices and rice. It's so good...I think I actually heard my arteries hardening, My wife (who also doubles as my Portuguese translator) had the Shrimp Mozambique which was in a garlic sauce with lemons, also with the fried potato slices and rice. She loved her dish as well. Get plenty of bread for sopping up all those tasty juices. They have other great dishes, apps, and of course Portuguese soup-a. The menu is not overwhelming with choices and everything is cooked to order. The prices are inexpensive and you get more food than you can probably finish. Worth a trip. read more

Homey and quaint this place really steps up to the plate with it's authentic Portuguese food. I ordered the shrimp Mozambique, I was worried that it would be too spicy because of the description on the menu but by talking to the helpful waitress she insisted it was not too spicy. I trusted her and she was right! They supplied a healthy portion of shrimp and rice. This will definitely be on my list of places to stop on my next trip to Bristol, RI. read more

I had really high hopes for this place, because my boyfriend spoke so highly of it from his childhood memories. The waitress was pleasant, but only checked on us once for drinks/apps, once to bring apps and take our food order, and then once to bring us our food. I found a hair in my stuffed quahog after just two bites and couldn't finish it. The waitress never commented on the fact that there was a mostly whole stuffie and a long hair on an empty plate left on the table when she brought our food, nor did she ever remove the app plates at any point while we were there. When she brought our food I asked for a water, which I never did receive. We waited for about a half hour after we finished eating our food before she came asking if we wanted to order anything else. She took another 5-10 minutes to bring us the check, and finally we waited another 5 before asking the other waitress to run our card. My boyfriend and I were so bummed about the quality of service after having such good expectations. read more

Overall a pretty decent Portuguese restaurant. A bit more americanized than some of the places in East Providence, but still pretty authentic. Good prices, portions and service as well. The Cod cakes and Portuguese soup are real standouts. Easy to drive right by if you are not looking but plenty of street parking a few blocks away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bristol. read more

I tried this over the weekend w/a groupon and was pleasantly surprised.. my boyfriend says its the best T-bone he's ever had... If you want the best Portuguese food you can eat go to Cafe Central. The clams in oil and garlic are amazing. More than one of my friends had the octopus and said that's the only place they will get it now. Portuguese soup also amazing. Pretty much everything is amazing there!! read more

Came with my family at 5pm on a saturday. The service was very cordial and quick. The food was very tasty and the place was simple and clean. The grilled bacalao was fresh & very good. Awful service. Very slow. Impersonal , took 20 minutes to get drinks. He Forgot some of them. Food came 45 minutes later. It wasn't busy at all on a Sunday afternoon. Usually this place is delicious but today we waited an hour for our meal and ended up leaving after the waitress said it would be another 10 minutes. We were so hungry we left to eat somewhere else. Horrible. Place has gone downhill. We were 3 people no one else was in the restaurant the waitress took 15 minutes to show up. Portions have gotten very small.
