If you're in Newport, Sprout & Lentil is a must-go--and totally worth the 10-15 minute drive outside of Newport. It's a small, cozy spot with just a few tables and countertop seating, plus a couple of outdoor tables that are dog-friendly. The truffle mac & cheese may be one of the best vegan mac & cheeses I've had in a really long time. So creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. The cauliflower bites were another favorite--fresh, crunchy little nuggets tossed perfectly in honey mustard. I originally thought the sauce would come on the side for dipping, but I actually loved that they were coated so evenly. So good! Hubby had the Rubenesque sandwich, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. There was also a steady stream of people picking up online orders and grabbing food to go, which definitely made us feel like this is a local favorite. I'd definitely recommend grabbing a meal here, or taking it to go for a beach picnic or to enjoy at one of Newport's scenic spots. And if you're looking for coffee and heading out of Newport, seriously recommend Simple Merchant House. We stopped there right before Sprout & Lentil, and again as we were leaving Newport on our last day. After lunch, we looped back into Newport to visit The Breakers and Marble House, making for such a fun day. read more

Had to change up my taco Tuesday routine so went vegan today with a place I have heard a lot of great things about with Sprout and Lentil! Dine in and take out options available here. Smaller shared parking lot to be mindful of here. Very welcoming staff that provided a great overview of the menu, drinks, made to take items and weekly specials. Casual relaxed atmosphere here with some music jamming in the background. Window bar seating if you are on your own or tables for four if meeting for a quick lunch bite. Started with a small chili which was fresh and full of flavor. For the main went with the Tuesday special with the recommended fish tacos (hearts of palm layered with nori flakes, crisp grated carrot, and shredded purple cabbage and a sliced jalapeño. Crispy tortilla with side of beans and rice). You can add a fresh pico and guac for additional prices, had both and were delicious! Assortment of drinks in the fridge along with some premade items (staff said it is rotational items and prepped earlier in the week if you want to max your options). After eating here can see what all the buzz was for a standout vegan option on island. A group came in after me and ordered a pizza that looked awesome as well. My husband found this one for us. We had a vegan dinner date here :) We dined in here, but we sat at the outdoor tables (so I couldn't get a good look at the indoor dining space). When you enter, there's a counter and a bell with a sign to ring it when you need help. There was a couple already inside of Sprout and Lentil perusing the menu. A woman came to the counter and sat us at different outdoor tables after taking our orders. Next time, I would get the burger that my husband ordered. I was envious as soon as the plate hit our table. My Cobb Salad was good, but the burger and fries were where it was at. It's a small place but they know how to make some good food! I had the Mexican Pizza, my wife had the beet falafel, both were very tasty! Pizza was pretty filling though my wife needed something more than just the falafel, to bad they don't offer a meal package with a side to go with it. The desserts were so so. We got the carrot cake and chocolate cupcakes, they were unfortunately nothing to write home about. The guy working the counter was super friendly and helped us figure out what we wanted. Place was small, luckily we were the only two there otherwise my wife would of had trouble getting her wheelchair around. And handicap parking is pretty limited. I found this place by accident, and I'm so glad I did. I ordered the V-Royal, which was fantastic. The burger was stacked and absolutely delicious. The pretzel bun really surprised me, probably the best burger bun I've tasted. When I arrived I decided to order some cauliflower bites also. I received a very generous portion of large chunks of fried cauliflower in panko. They were so crispy and delicious. I couldn't finish them and even hours late they remained just as crispy. Thankfully I also bought a variety of burger patties to cook on the grill and I can't wait to try them. Wish they so,d the pretzel buns, where can I get them! Highly highly recommend this place. This Portsmouth RI food shop in the back of a strip mall cranks out imaginative vegan & vegetarian offerings that look & taste good. Our orders were to go & the kitchen folks did a great job packing up our to go order & our food remained hot for home eating. Their buffalo cauliflower is not from the freezer; it is prepared fresh. On a short anniversary staycation in Newport, we searched for restaurants that serve vegetarian food. We opted for Sprout and Lentil based on their reviews. It's a little hard to find since it's behind a strip of buildings. Plus, it's a tiny location with just three barstools for seating and some tables outside. But don't let that fool you! It's definitely earned its place as Newport's best vegetarian restaurant! I ordered the Sweet Potato Lentil Burger, but opted to have it on a bed of greens. Both the burger and the greens were incredibly flavorful. The greens were crisp and tasted freshly picked. My husband got the Cauliflower Bites Wrap and was equally pleased with it. One of the highlights of our experience was being helped by owner Carmen Foy, who was both friendly and personable...and especially patient with all my questions! As a special anniversary treat, she brought us a carrot cake muffin. It was so yummy, we decided to indulge and get a second one. We look forward to our next visit to Newport so we can return to Sprout and Lentil (and try their Beet Falafel Wrap!). read more

Other Yelpers led me here. I think it is exceptional and I agree that it is the best bean burger in Rhode Island! The food is consistently delicious. So I'm in. Plus, it's plant-based comfort food. Their menu is soup, burgers, sandwiches, and baked goods -- all vegan & kosher. Some items are gluten free. The gluten-free spicy black bean jalapeño burger is so satisfying and ridiculously good. It's also good as a wrap. For me it's the star! My husband loved both the V-Royale with Cheeze and the Nacho-Average Burger. The Philly Cheeze is also mouthwatering and you do not miss the meat. They have a yummy cinnamon roll, a pop tart, and other desserts like gluten-free cupcakes, that are NOT crumbly or tasteless. Hooray! Cute place with a California-ish vibe. OK. So there are few restaurants and eateries that knock my socks off and Sprout and Lentil is one of them. In the plant based world there are the greats that are wonderful but not everyday places. Only one other plant based/vegan restaurant has knocked my socks off like Sprout and Lentil and that is Vegalicious in Nashville, TN. And both are very accessible everyday establishments that even meat eaters can enjoy. If I could give Sprout and Lentil 100 stars I would. The menu makes the food sound really delicious and as I was ordering I saw someone else's order and I was like, oh wait, I want that!! This is a carry out establishment, though they do have a small table outside in front where i enjoyed my meal while there was no one else around. You can fully customize your meal and deviate from the menu - the owner was delightful and pleasant to speak with while building my desired salad. I had the black bean burger over a bed of fresh sprouts and spinach. I also had a cup of her vegan "clam chowder" which was actually mushroom and potato with entirely vegan based ingredients - the seaweed was a great touch to give it that "of the sea" flavor. The food was visibly bright and vibrant. All fresh and organic, the taste was amazing. 5 stars and highly recommend - i'll definitely be back! We rushed over to pick up our food @5:30 since it closes at 6 and closed Sunday and Monday. The Rex burger was huge! Stacked and so flavorful.
