On the second night of our vacation my true love and I headed to this restaurant where customers order at the counter after reviewing the overhead menu choices . We each opted for gyros. Though many fresh looking ingredients were available, we each opted to go traditional by choosing lettuce, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce. The pitas were quite large, but were not heated. The limited quantity of meat that was included proved to be disappointing compounded by the fact it was not sliced to order from a vertical rotisserie and served cold. My husband went with one of their wraps with falafel and ordered sweet potato fries on the side. I stole one of the fries - good sweet potato fries. The worker at the counter was very funny as we directed him in building our meals. I got the grilled gyro wrap which was very large for $12. Solid gyro spot across from the old Christmas Tree shop. The RI Food fights brought me here as a part of the Aquidneck Island leg. When you walk in, you're greeted with upbeat middle eastern music, really setting the vibe for your meal. The place is small but clean and bright. The guy behind the counter was super helpful answering our questions and soon he was making our wraps. With this place, you pick your base and they add the toppings of your choice, like Chipotle. I chose the classic gyro and my friend chose the hummus\tabouleh wrap. They were expertly put together and handed to us like the passing of the Olympic torch. You could tell everything was top notch. The pita was soft, so often they're stale but this place really takes care of their ingredients. All the vegetables looked great and at peak quality and the taste reflected that. Middletown for some Mediterranean fare? Why not. This is a popular spot for a reason, it's tasty, inexpensive and the portions are fantastic. The staff is very friendly and it's not just some employee slapping your wrap together to get you food and out the door, the gentleman behind the counter really took his time and care to lay everything out strategically and methodically so that every bite I got was packed with flavor from one end of the wrap to the other. I got the chicken shawarma wrap. I got it with the works. Some hot and some mild hot sauce was a good level of heat for me. It might be a little spicy for some, so be warned, if you don't like spicy then stick with the mild. Now, on the shwarma itself, I don't know if I was given the wrong thing or if it's just how they do their "shawarma", but it wasn't shawarma. They were just grilled chicken chunks in my wrap vs marinated and well seasoned pieces of chicken that were cut off a rotisserie after being thinly sliced, seasoned and stacked.. That said, it was still tasty. A little on the dry side for the chicken itself but all the sauces, hummus, and tzatziki made it hardly noticeable. All in all, a great, filling meal. Not exactly the type of place to hang out a while, more a quick bite and be on our way type of joint. They have a large menu, come, get some good food for around $12 and leave full. Well deserving of a 5 star. As soon as I walked in I was greeted. Clean space and open kitchen so there's nothing to hide. I like the concept of build your own. We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night on a whim. We want to grab something we could just take home and hunker down in the cold. My husband has been raving about this place for a long time and I needed to see for myself. The guys at the counter were super nice and very patient for me while I made my decision. I ended up with the chicken kebab wrap and it was so good! A little garlicky, but that might've been the tzatziki sauce. I also had the hummus and pita appetizer. The hummus is really good too! This is one of my co-workers' and my favorite lunch spots. Let's first talk about the service. I always come in here and feel like a friend, and not just a customer. If you've been here a couple of times and have developed a usual order, the staff who work here (including the owner, when he's working the line), will know exactly what you want and how you want it. You can also choose to pay immediately after getting your food, or after you've finished it. Right, onto my usual. I get a super meat turbo (it's like the Noah's Ark of Mediterranean wraps.........................y'know, two of every animal), with everything. Also, go with both the hot and the medium sauces, as the hot provides more heat, but the medium has more depth of flavor (it'll add some sweet and tangy). Along with it, I always get some baklava and a couple of Jarritos sodas. The turbo has lamb, beef, and chicken, and you might think that's a lot of different meats in one dish...and............well, it is, but it's also tasty, so I'm ok with it. I hear from some people that the hummus and tahini could use a bit more lemon, but personally, I like it as is. It goes with their falafel very well. And falafel and hummus and tahini are also in the turbo, as well. Lastly, there's also grape leaves in the wrap. Oh, side note...you know there's a lot of bad falafel out there? A lot of times, you can encounter falafel that's dry and crumbles into dust (which is usually indicative of using a powder mix falafel)? Not these guys' falafel! These guys' falafel is absolutely delicious! If it's your first time here, get yourself a falafel appetizer. I swear, you won't be sorry. All right, now the baklava... I think it's bought elsewhere, as I never smell baklava being baked. That said, it's still pretty good (which is why I keep buying it). And a little tip I got from them from the early days is to put a little dash of honey on it before eating it (a light honey, like acacia or orange blossom...not clover and certainly not buckwheat). Overall, I think this probably my favorite spot for a quick lunch on the island. It's a gem, and so are the staff. read more

International Pocket Cafe was literally around the corner from our hotel so we decided to give it a try. Cute storefront with a couple of tables inside & outside. We asked the guy behind the counter for recommendations. I went with the chicken shawarma, served with my choice of vegetables, hummus & garlic sauce in a light pita wrap. Hubby did the same but with lamb. My shawarma was so good that I couldn't stop eating it! Tons of chicken, nice crunch from the veggies, loved the creaminess of the hummus & the garlic sauce was awesome! Hubby was in the mood for an appetizer as well so we ordered the grape leaves. He also loves something spicy so the guy gave us a little container of homemade habanero sauce which is SOOOO SPICY that I couldn't eat it but hubby was happy. Delicious alternative to fast food. When we first moved to the area, this was I think the second restaurant we ate at, and we loved it. The food was fast and fresh, and we left feeling full and satisfied. Now, a year and a half later, we are still eating here, and it's still a solid, quick meal. The restaurant is tucked in a small parking lot just off west main road, next to Walgreen's. The parking lot has limited spots, but I've seen people park in spillover in the Walgreen's lot. Inside, they only have 7 or so tables, but the dishes are fast to consume so if it's packed, you'll get a table within a short wait. I always thing menus are intriguing, and here, there are so many different items, I'm always impressed they are able to make that many dishes so quickly. I always opt for the falafels or gyro items, but I've seen more American standard dishes and sandwiches go by, and they look solid. I never leave without a few pieces of baklava as well. The falafel can be crispy and fluffy or a little soggy and oily depending on how fresh the are, and how much of a lunch rush is hitting them. Service is pretty friendly and extremely fast, with a large array of sauces, toppings, and meat/veg options. The baklava is always crisp and not too syrupy, and they have a great array of chips and drinks as well. I do slightly prefer the falafel at pick pockets deli which are a little more consistently crispy, but this place is solid anyway and we will continue to eat here. read more

Portion size was amazing! You price of $12-15 make it an absolutely great deal. The falafel was probably my favorite part of it all - so crunchy and flavorful; its presence in the wrap, even with meat and salad with sauces in it, is pronounced and won't go unnoticed. Absolutely recommend the two meat turbo wrap. Customize it as you want to your liking. The hot spread, yellow one, has a very very good kick to it and does not disappoint. No regrets. Chicken and mushroom sub: I only ordered a sub (or two...) because so many reviews raved about them. And they're so good! I don't know if it really counts as Mediterranean food, not much Mediterranean about it but it was so good. So if you're craving a sub sandwich, get one here! It comes with fries, it's way bigger than a subway foot long, and the bread tastes homemade - so fresh and chewy and flavorful. I got another sub, a chicken stir fry one, and it was good but a little forgettable. The portions on all my meals were HUGE so it's a nice bang for your buck. On our last night, we decided to order from a nearby place and settled on this Med place as the reviews are favorably positive. When I called to ask what's in the meat pie, the person on the phone was honest enough to say he doesn't know what's in it. I got the gyro plate dish which came with lamb, rice, bread and loads of salad. My wife got falafel version which she actually enjoyed it and had the crunch. My son got the chicken version. All the dishes were prepared the same except for the protein. I had expected a bit more finesse. My son also got the fried ravioli and he raved about it. 1600 I was introduced to here by our instructor who raved about this place. It must be good because when yelping the area, the restaurant was consistently in the top three. Outside, it's right next to Walgreens (which review I know you read) and across from FEDEX (which I have to visit later so I know you'll read that). It's spacious because it has to be. Against the walls, are the tables and in the middle is a big area so a line can form. And that line never stops. It's: look at the menu, watch them create your meal, and if dining in pay later. Yep, if you are dining in take a seat and see them after your meal. I've never experienced that before from a take out place but here they trust that you'll love the food and you'll pay them after. Right in both counts!! I got the lamb shawarma. I had no clue at the time what a shawarma was but after the Avengers I need to find out. My chef put down two tortillas one on top of the other so it's roughly a foot long. Then adds spices with the veggies and sauce you choose. For me light spicy with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cheese, cilantro, and yogurt. And then to top it off with these hummus donuts. I could eat those all day. If you crossed a burrito with a gyro, you get this filling delicious creation. The tortillas aren't heated but don't let that distract you from entering tastyville. I love this 3000!!! It's a must have and the only way I wouldn't get this again is if I was trying something else off their menu. Flavors burst in you month. You get the freshness of the greens. Tanginess of the sauce.
