    Chicken Marsala

Entered with my family on a cold winter night for a delicious dinner. Service was impeccable by Kelly My brother had the shrimp scampi and it was the best he ever had. My mother had chicken pot pie with dill and said it was exceptional. I had chicken Marsala - see picture. Super tasty, fresh pasta is to die for. Definitely a great place for a home cooked meal. Can't wait to return! Thanks for all your hard work.

Hadn't been here in a while and we were looking to grab dinner out. You all who do the cooking at home know what a nice break that is! All the staff who crossed our path last evening were pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed the complimentary bread. My husband ordered the lasagna and I got the small side salad and eggplant parm which comes with fettuccini. All the pasta is made in house. Our food was plentiful and delicious. It is a noisy place but worth the trip.

Comfortable seating, friendly staff, flavorful and well prepared food. My one complaint is that it took a long time to get both food and drinks despite visiting on a Tuesday. I will certainly be back to try more things on the menu, good wine selection as well.

First, I'll round up on the 3.5 that I wanted to give here because of the freshness of ingredients, the quality of the food and the service, even if I didn't enjoy the flavors. Second, I recognize the inherent issue with complaining about the taste of the food and the portions. It's like the old Yogi Berra saying about a restaurant, "Nobody ever goes there anymore. It's way too busy. The food is awful and the portions are small." It's not so much that the food was awful as I didn't enjoy the flavor of my main dish. If you love cheese, you'll probably dig this. I am more of a sauce and protein guy and I'm not a fan of strong cheese tastes so this was just not for me. But let's get back to our regularly scheduled programming already in progress... We came to Ida's because of recommendations from knowledgeable foodies in the area and the reviews in Yelp. It is a nice, comfortable, warm atmosphere. It plays a little older than us. It feels like a place that the yuppies would go after a few rounds of golf with the wives. But it's clean, busy, and clearly a popular place with the elder locals. The ingredients and preparation are top notch. Very fresh, very well plated. High quality throughout every aspect. The pasta is clearly fresh, it rolled incredibly well over the fork and stayed put. Not really Al dente, but definitely delicious. The sauce was fresh and brassy, very tasty. The veal parm on the other hand was not something that I particularly enjoyed on two different fronts. As I said above, I recognize the weirdness of saying you didn't like the taste and the portions were too small, but they can be mutually exclusive opportunities to discuss where things went from a five-star place to a four-star place. The cheese used on the parm was a little overpowering and not something that I particularly enjoyed. You lose the taste of the other components underneath the cheese. If you're a cheese lover, you may think this is the best parm dish ever. I am not one of those people. If you do love the taste, however, you may be disappointed with the portions of protein, as the veal was hard to find sometimes both due to how thinly pounded down it was and how small the cutlets were. It amounted to about four bites overall for $28. And while the quality was excellent, the value was not necessarily there overall. We got great service from our server. She was helpful, friendly how I answered questions and made sure that we had things the way that we wanted them prepared. There were moments when I felt a little rushed because she kept clearing plates that didn't need to be cleared, but at the same time when we hung around a little bit we didn't feel like we were under pressure to get out and turn the table over. Overall this is a place you should definitely try because your palette may be different than mine in regard to the one dish I tried. It's a nice, busy atmosphere with good service, nice people, excellent ingredients and preparation. Some people will find some fault with the cost/value equation there in terms of portion size, but you also have to take into account the very high quality of the food and ingredients you're getting. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Ordered takeout tonight for the first time because I was craving Meatballs. Called and was disappointed that they were already out two hours after opening on a Friday night. Went with the Chicken Parmigiana. When I tell you I thought they gave me another persons leftovers! For $28 they should at least put some food in the bowl. Side note: the food was good!

Here again from Las Vegas on 10/6/2023 and was excellent as usual. Had eggplant Parmesan and the Greek salad and then we took a slice of 5 layer warm chocolate cake back to our hotel. We were fulfilled once again. See you next year!

A great dining experience for dinner on my first trip. I already know that I want to return and dine here again to try other items from their menu. Parking is in a small lot along a busy street. Reservations were not required and we were able to get in and seated with no wait. Seating can be in close proximity to others. So if you're not ready to be all up close and personal in a you may want to opt for to go dining. When weather allows, there is a very small area designated as outdoor dining. Our host was gracious and candid in her feedback on suggestions when ordering. The owner came around and checked on diners and was clearly making himself useful during a time when eateries are experiencing personnel shortages. The food didn't take a long time to come out. Even though I ordered a salad, it was delicious and fresh. I look forward to dining here again and would suggest others try their food too.

Service was thoughtful and prompt despite the crowds, and the chaos of our party (with several young children), all the food was excellent, and we were particularly impressed / jealous of the three course kids menu. Highlights were the whole seabass market special, scallops with a green bean medley and crab cake (this was a special, but the menu version which I didn't have also sounded delicious), and the roast chicken. There is ample parking in front of the restaurant (paid public lot, NOT cheap -- but beats circling the streets of Newport for X min and being late and cranky for dinner?!?).

We had parked at a lot nearby for $20 a day and walked over for our event, but there is also a lot right in front of the Mooring - I believe it is paid parking but maybe it gets validated (?), not sure. Anyways, when we walked in, it gave me Titanic vibes because of the semi dim lighting, nautical theme, the water across building, and white, brown, and copper colors all around. We were seated at a table inside, part booth, part chairs. Since it was late, I did not want anything too heavy. We started with 4 shrimp which were big and juicy and came with cocktail sauce/horseradish. Next, we shared the calamari. I was happy with the flavor, crispiness, the almost 1:1 ratio of rings to tentacles, and the scattered pieces of fried banana peppers (my favorite!). The sauce it came with tasted homemade and I love that it was more than just tomatoes - there were pieces of herbs and garlic too. The entrees we ordered came soon after: the chicken ($25) and the whole roasted fish ($39). The chicken plate looked and tasted fantastic. The chicken was well seasoned with a solid crispy finish to the skin. The mashed potatoes were very smooth and tasty and the broccolini was lightly cooked in what seemed to be a buttery sauce. The sauce on the outside was spectacular and so was the chimichurri over the chicken. Everything came together really well. The baked fish on the other hand seemed to be the complete opposite where everything did taste fresh and healthy, but that meant compromising flavor. The fish (porgies) was about 8 inches long including head and tail. It was stuffed with some herbs, but it didn't come with any sauce or seasoning. The fingerling potatoes were also just roasted and the broccolini just steamed or roasted with no trace of salt or pepper at the bare minimum. The salad was arugula and I think it might've had thin shavings of jicama, but no dressing. I was disappointed with my meal because of the lack of flavor and creativity; I wished I had ordered the seafood pasta, but it felt too heavy for the time of day. For the ambiance and prestige, I felt the prices were okay. The service is great; we had a kind and attentive waiter.

We stopped by Bar 'Cino for lunch on the recommendation of a neighbor just away from the madding tourists. We decided to sit outside in the shade on this hot day even though the interior was cooler and pleasant. We ordered drinks - beers, and an iced tea - while we perused the menu. Our server Alexandria was most personable and attentive and was prompt without rushing us. We decided to share a couple of dishes: the Antipasti had a very good selection of meats, cheese, hot olives and grilled garlic bread, and excellent house-made chips. This was followed by a a very thin crusted mushroom pizza which was well worth having: actually quite delicious. The check for the three of us came to $88 - well worth it. I would return the next time I was in the city.

I went on a rainy Monday around noon and there was still a steady flow of customers. It seems to be a pretty popular spot. The staff is all very friendly. The soups were served to us immediately after paying. The New England Clam Chowder was good. Nice amount of clams and very creamy. I had never had Rhode Island Clam Chowder before and this seemed like the place to try it. The clear broth was surprisingly flavorful but I still prefer New England. My girlfriend and I ordered a good amount and the food came out pretty quickly. My favorite was the kung pao calamari. The squid was fried perfectly and having the sauce on the side was nice as it didn't leave the breading to get all soggy and I had control over how sweet it would be. The stuffed Quahogs tasted good but I feel like I tasted more of the stuffing over the actual shellfish. It still tasted good, but I feel like I should've gotten more shellfish. We were told they ran out of shells to serve them on so the presentation was off, but they were still tasty. The lobster rolls were both good. They were $27 which seems pretty steep to me but they were actually on the cheaper side compared to other places we saw around Newport. The lobster tasted fresh and the bread was good. They were solid lobster rolls. The food was all solid, but for the price I wasn't wowed.

We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. The bread that came with it was perfect for soaking up every last bit of the broth. The salmon was very fresh and cooked well. The shrimp scampi was also really good. The clam chowder was an 8 out of 10 for me. Not the best I've ever had but definitely one of the better ones. Pricing was mid range and felt fair for the quality of the food and the portions. Overall, we were really happy with the meal. Great service, fresh seafood, generous kids' portions, and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely come back, especially for the mussels.
