They created a beautiful space out of a former diner. They also get big bonus points for offering a Manhattan mocktail! The food was delicious but the service was spotty. A constant request to remove unfinished food was mildly annoying and when I did need a plate packed up to take home, was ignored for a spell. It did get quite busy, so that mighy be the reason. My leftovers were just as delicious the next day. The octopus salad was divine. I will go back again. Excellent Italian food with outstanding flavor. Portions are on the large side. Strawberry Arugula salad was delicious and the veal chop special as well. Our servers were attentive and professional. Because we booked late we could only reserve a table in the larger igloo. While it was nicely set up, I did not care for the acoustics. Had our first visit at this local favorite, recommended by friends who've loved it since its opening in August 2024. Despite the chilly evening, the place was bustling both inside and out--a testament to its popularity. It's housed in a wonderfully restored old diner with tons of charm. The menu is massive, with plenty of daily specials. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the night. We started with cocktails--well-crafted and reasonably priced. For appetizers, the burrata and peach salad offered a fresh, seasonal twist and the Caesar salad was on point. The calamari was decent but didn't quite stack up to the Rhode Island classic I love (sautéed with garlic, butter, and hot peppers like banana, cherry, or pepperoncini). Entrées were all hits: the duck got rave reviews ("superb!"), and the Bolognese and chicken parm were generous, classically prepared, and satisfyingly hearty. This spot really delivers on value--custom cocktails run $14, well drinks $9.99, and many entrées are comfortably priced in the $20s. All in, a nice evening. Mannie, the owner, provided exceptional service, showcasing his friendly and helpful demeanor. The Italian dishes we sampled were authentic and generously portioned. The wine list was also commendable. The quality of the food and service prompted me to order a take-out meal for another day. The desserts were outstanding, and we opted to try a selection of them. I am enthusiastic about sharing my positive experience with friends and anticipating our next visit. My wife and I dined here last night 2/21/2026 and thoroughly enjoyed everything. Food, ambience and service were all outstanding. The restaurant owner onsite and knows how to run the business very well. Not a cheap establishment, rather a place to enjoy the fruits of your labor and not fight with waitstaff. Got the ravioli with vodka sauce for takeout. It was good, but not nearly enough food to justify the $30 I ended up paying after tip. The restaurant itself is very cute, operating out of a trolley car with minimal seating. I know good pasta can be expensive, but I was just hoping for a larger serving size with this particular dish. The sauce was flavorful and I was able to save some of it to use on my own pasta the next day, which was nice. read more

This 'diner' has been renovated inside to create an Italian Restaurant. The 'counter' has been turned into a bar with very comfortable high top seats. No hook for pocketbooks though. The 'booths' have been replaced by tables for four with table clothes and cloth napkins. The original structure of the diner, along with other interior furnishing like the original refrigerator unit behind the counter, have been intentionally preserved. This building has been part of the neighborhood for a long time and New Englanders like to keep our history. They have only been open a few weeks now and décor is a work in progress. We chose to sit at the bar. At this time they offer canned beers. One Italian, Coors and Bud. They have a selection of wine and mixed drinks. I asked about local distillery options and was told they are working with local companies to create supplier agreements. For example, they are working to get local oysters. Our bartender has known the owner, who is from northern Italy, for years and worked with him on creating the restaurant. She is very friendly and easy to talk with. We very much enjoyed and appreciate the time she spent answering our questions and chatting. We started with adult beverages and an appetizer to share. The negroni was well made and presented. The glassware for both drinks is sturdy. I am happy they offer carpaccio, one of my favorite Italian appetizers. This one comes with hearts of palm, grilled peach, arugula and a good quality, aged cheese. The meat is paper thin and tender. Well presented, tasty and good quality. My dining companion ordered their Amatriciana. He makes his own and loves to try other's recipes to compare. He approves this flavorful choice with large pieces of guanciale. He was offered fresh grated parmesan to add to the dish. I went with the short rib ragu over rigatoni from the Primi section of the menu. I am told the rigatoni is made in house and the pasta has a nice firm texture. The ragu is mild and full of meat. My food limitations did not allow me to try one of the Secondi. We were able to try the tiramisu however and it is a classic version with espresso and chocolate. A very good Italian dessert. We had a very nice Amaro after dinner drink with our dessert. The food here is the star and why you should come. The menu is similar to what you would find in Italy, food quality is excellent and the recipes flavorful. This food is better than most I've had on Federal Hill. Food prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area. If you enjoy authentic Italian food, you should check out Café Milano. read more

Cafe Milano in North Kingstown was an okay experience, but nothing that would bring us back. The food was average and the pricing felt a bit high for what we got. The Caesar salad was all romaine hearts--completely white with no green leaf in sight--and the garlic bread could've used a lot more butter and garlic to live up to its name. We also had the ravioli with pink vodka sauce and the penne marinara; both were just fine, but nothing stood out. The space is nicely remodeled, and we appreciated being able to get a same-day reservation, which suggests the initial buzz has probably worn off. We sat at the counter, which worked well for two people, but the temperature inside was uncomfortable--the thermostat next to us read 80 degrees, even though it was only in the mid-60s outside. They did turn the AC on toward the end, but it made for a pretty warm meal. I tend to agree with the other 3 & 4 star reviews, not the 5's. What a transformation from the old but charming former Snoopys Diner to the contemporary yet intimate Cafe Milano! The interior is welcoming and snug with 6 tables for four customers each and a long bar replacing the former diner counter with plenty of stool seating. The food is outstanding (definitely high-end and no diner fare here) - simply executed and done very well. We started off with the foie gras plate and an artichoke/pistachio/avocado salad which were both elegant and decadent. Then we shared a pasta dish: the ravioli in vodka sauce. This was terrific, silky and plump and now I wish we'd doubled down on this one. I followed with a secondi of the veal Milano, a pounded-thin veal cutlet, lightly breaded and fried with an arugula salad. The salad was amazing - and it really had to be for me to even mention such a side. The veal was tender and delicious. My wife had a grilled salmon which was cooked perfectly and again - truly a sign of care and commitment! - the side dishes of grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes were simply outstanding. Desserts were equally good: we had a tiramisu which was subtle and not overly sweet; and a fabulous apple tart which was hot and fragrant with a wonderful crispy phyllo. Service was warm and welcoming. My hats off to the staff! Yes it's on the expensive side but the high quality and care justifies it. A very pleasant and satisfying visit. read more

My brother had been to Caffé Milano previously and raved about their "veal parm", their Foie gras etc. My wife's birthday...reservations at 7--unneeded -the place was dead. It was a Tuesday evening. Ricky, our server was great. Drinks were superb, Manhattans, Belvedere Martini, Old Fashion (one cherry--really?) Wine -totally overpriced. (Quilt Napa blend--retail $30--here $60.) Food; Foie gras--sent back. Rack of lamb sent back--overdone. Replaced--small-unimpressive. ($38) Tenderloin--sent back. Veal Parm--nicely done with homemade pasta--good but-ordinary. The price wasn't ($35) My wife's pesto with shrimp--seriously??? The shrimp were miniscule! Embarrassing. (she gave it a 6) Complimentary desserts at the end ---glad they were complimentary. I read about this place in the ProJo and my R.I. family recommended it so we decided to try it out for one of our "special date nights". It's a curious venue, the converted Snoopy's diner and as such is a small place, only 6-7 tables and counter service (BTW, I do not recommend coming here with a big group beyond 4 or 5). The food was good but not terrific, my Caesar Salad was too finely chopped up and way over dressed, my dates peach carparchio was actually the high light of the meal. I went with the pasta and it was cooked well and the sauce was good (but not great) but the real disappointment was with all the sauce on my plate-no bread? My wife's zucchini pasta was made with summer squash a disappointment for her and it would have been easy enough for the server to mention the substitute when she ordered. For a place that is trying to position themselves as an upscale authentic Italian place, that's a real red flag for me. The final capper to our night was the decaf espresso (I asked twice if it was decaf to our server) and at midnight my wife said to me, I'm pretty sure that was NOT decaf we were served. Italian restaurant situated in a former diner. Food was absolutely delicious but a little pricey considering the atmosphere. We went after they had been open only a few days so the service was bumpy. My glass was not properly washed and had a lipstick stain but they quickly replaced it and gave me a fresh glass. They did not take reservations and we had to wait at the bar for quite some time for a table. We ordered prosciutto and mozzarella & calamari for apps. Both were very good but smaller portion on the calamari. For dinner I had pappardelle with a short rib sauce and my husband had the pork chop. The pasta & sauce was very very good and I have eaten a lot of good italian over the years. I would probably order takeout next time due to the smaller venue and the atmosphere still being more like a diner then a fancy restaurant. read more

Apparently it broke the previous week but they only had one small fan that they kept moving around. HomeDepot is literally up the road and they could have got a few more in there. I heard about this restaurant & had read a few reviews & was excited to try it. Recently went there to celebrate my birthday with friends. I really never ate there when it was a diner so wasn't sure of the interior layout. It is a small space , the tables were nicely organized. Due to its size I recommend making reservations. I started out with their soup special which was lentil soup & was very good. Nice flavor . The bread served for the table looked like store bought sliced Italian bread & was not very good. The pesto dipping sauce accompaniment was good. We mostly ordered pasta dishes since most of the pasta is made on the premises. I ordered the paccheri, though not homemade , with zucchini & quanciale which was very good& had a nice flavor.. one of my friends received the wrong entree. She initially ordered the crab risotto with tuna but instead got the risotto with scallops which ended up having only 4 smaller or bay scallops instead of sea scallops so she left most of the risotto on her plate. One of the disappointing part of the evening that the owner/manager never acknowledges our table & asked how everything was, even though he walked by our table several times. Anyways, the food was okay/good, but I have to give it three stars ( actually 3 1/2 stars) for the service, with the exception of the waiter as he was attentive & friendly. Their tiramisu did however remind me of how it's served & made in Italy. I will go back as I always give restaurants another chance. read more

Wow! Three of us enjoyed a great dinner at Cafe Milano over the weekend. A funky diner atmosphere combined with fine dining in an intimate and romantic setting, with outstanding food and service. We enjoyed wonderful pasta fagioli soup, pear salad and Caesar salad for appetizers, then spectacular roast duck, salmon, and ragout for mains. We then shared their cheesecake for dessert, all accompanied by an excellent Italian Cabernet. A "wow" meal! Not cheap, but very special. And while it wasn't easy to get a reservation, it looked like dining at the bar is usually available. read more

I made a reservation for a Saturday lunch to celebrate friends who came from a distance to meet at Cafe Milano. Despite the confirmation of my reservation, the restaurant was closed. Shortly after I wrote to the owners by USPS and included my confirmed reservation, and asked for at least an apology, if not a small gift certificate for our insult. Sorry my brunch experience was disappointing. Small place that still has diner feel not commensurate with menu. Nice banquet type seating. Chilly interior bot decor a temperature wise with door propped open (late Sept). Waited over half-hour for our meals, lobster benny and fruit french toast. Place not close to full but still a long wait. My french toast was one slice of bread folded over a few blueberries and a dollop of cream cheese. Nothing else. Looked very lonely on plate. That took a half-hour? Others had fully loaded plates with home fries, etc. I will say that the young man bussing, filling water, coffee was exceptional. Don't know about dinner service and not sure I will try given my experience. read more

The food is excellent, well presented and flavorful. There is a nice use of limited space inside and hopefully they will be able to expand. It is quiet enough to talk to your guest(s) without raising your voice. Waitstaff is efficient and helpful. Don't go for the bar. The drink they brought was average to poorly made.
