We have been on a Blue Plate Diner kick lately. It doesn't matter if it's breakfast or diner, whatever they make is beyond amazing and always delicious! I don't think I could pick a favorite if I had to. Their pancakes are better than homemade. Home fries are very flavorful. Love the chicken and waffles, pot roast, brisket. I have yet to find anything that I don't like. The staff are all super friendly and the diner is always clean and comfortable. Hands down our favorite place these days! read more

First Do Not Bypass this Wonderful establishment!!! It has the Best service Galen was out waitperson, on point, fast, noted my hubby could have his burger Cooked as he liked " medium-rare" !! He never finishes his hamburger- it came out perfect and he actually enjoyed it '!!!!! What a great accommodating place! Loved our Saturday morning breakfast at Blue Plate Diner! Not very crowded for a Saturday in early June at around 9:30am. We were seated quickly in a booth. All of the servers were friendly. Our food and drink were hot and fresh. Diner coffee can usually be pretty bad but theirs was delicious! We split the country omelette and cinnamon French toast. The country omelette wasn't dry and had all of the fixings to perfect proportion. And the French toast! Not dry either! Prefect crispy outer layer with a lovely dollop of butter. I believe that people who rate this high have never truly been to a diner. As someone from Jersey (home of the diners) this place is not the best. I gave it 3 stars bc nothing was rlly wrong except the waitress being rude and the parking being from hell. I want to love this place, because in general, I love diners. It's ok for a few dishes, but I wouldn't stray too far from diner mainstay dishes. As far as decor goes, it's more family-style restaurant than diner. Service is always pretty good, though. Everyone is very friendly. Food is all right. I rarely stray away from the crow's nest or shepherd's pie (they do beef, not lamb, for those who want to split hairs between shepherd's pie and cottage pie). Both are decent enough. If there's one thing you don't expect from a diner, it's good food for dinner. Blue Plate however definitely proved us wrong! I had the Reuben sandwich with a salad for dinner and my husband had the meatloaf- all delicious- and beautifully plated. The kids had homemade mac n cheese and chicken tenders- pretty standard but that Mac n cheese was delicious (and did I mention HOMEMADE?!) - definitely not that Kraft crap some of the restaurants serve around here! We came here on a whim as we were in the area and super hungry for brunch. This was our plan B, as a different place we wanted to try had a line that you would not believe. I can't say Blue Plate had the most amazing brunch ever but it certainly was not bad either. Overall, just kinda meh mostly due to lack of seasoning and a tad on the greasy side. We felt like we could make better quality at home, but we were dining here out of convenience so that wasn't an option. I'd give this place another try and I am eager to try the regular lunch/dinner menu, since some of those dishes look/sound amazing. Service was EXCELLENT and our server was extremely helpful with some of our menu questions around dairy/lactose. I ordered a classic 2-egg breakfast with a side of 1 pancake. The pancake was delicious but wish they had real maple syrup to go along with it. The syrup featured here is the high fructose variety that barely resembles maple syrup. The pancake overall cooked well and had good flavor. My eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, but on the bland side. Kind of flavorless. I don't think they had salt or pepper. The potatoes were on the oily side and loaded with paprika or some similar seasoning, so they really tasted of only oil and paprika. Not much seasoning or flavor otherwise. Some potatoes were really oily/greasy. Bacon was great and cooked extra crispy which is exactly how I love it. My girlfriend had an omelette which I tried and it was great, although admittedly again it seemed to lack seasoning. It was full of fresh veggies and ham though and seemed really healthy and a huge portion. Everything was very fast and I think we went from parking to eating in less than 10 mins. We have dined at Blue Plate, often, since it first opened. The owner and staff are friendly and efficient. It is a comfortable place to go, and can relax to have a nice visit with old friends or new friends. The food is sometimes very good, but often mediocre. A friend an I especially like their hamburgers. For years, their BLT was my "go to" selection. However, the the last one I had was the worst BLT I have ever had, period. I regret, I didn't tell Ted, the owner. The ambiance is OK, but Ted need to make a few repairs that would not be a major expense. read more

This place is a great local joint. The corned beef mash is worth coming back. I actually did - while I was in Newport for a conference - I stopped for breakfast two days in a row for the corned beef hash - delicious. I also recommend the blueberry pancakes. They are awesome. The place is spiritless and the service is quick. If I had only one complaint - it would be that I had to ask for coffee. Maybe it's just me, but when I'm at a diner, I literally have to say no more coffee! I love how they walk around and always keep your cup full. Not here. Here you have to ask - it's absolutely fine. So when a colleague of mine suggested lunch the other day, he told me to meet him at the Blue Plate Diner in Middletown. Middletown? The other side of Narragansett Bay? Cross the Pell Bridge just for lunch? (If you're a fellow Rhodie, you know what I'm talking about, right?) Well, I'll be darned, it was worth the "trip"! Real classic diner layout inside, good menu, and the meal was tasty, well-made, comforting, and fully satisfying. Good service as well, friendly and attentive. I had their fried chicken special and it was a brace of pounded chicken breasts, crisply fried in a non-greasy friable batter, tender and juicy, not dry at all. The pepper milk gravy was delicious; as was the jalapeno corn bread and smashed potatoes that accompanied the chicken. My colleague had their open-face turkey plate and it also looked very good. Would I cross the Bay again - yeah ... there's a lot more on their menu that I'd like to try. If only they were on the west bank of the Bay ... that would be perfection in life. read more

From now on let's call this place "Blue Mold Diner". I had forgotten to leave this review but would like to give the community a heads-up to avoid this diner. So I was looking for a quick and easy breakfast such as eggs, bacon, and toast. I figure to stop by a diner for pick up as I needed to get some things done. Blue Mold was the closest spot so I start driving over and call in for the to-go order. To my dismay, they do not accept to-go orders on the weekend. O.K. if there's no line I'll sit in and eat quickly it's a simple meal. Well, when the order arrives it turns out that it was not so simple an order for them...and/or they could just care less about the customers. The issue and the reasoning for my stomach to turn when the plate arrived was the fact that there were several spots of blue mold on the toast!. Needless to say, I left with an empty stomach. Let me not forget to mention this...from a business perspective, it makes absolutely no sense to me why you would not accept to-go orders. You're actually throwing away potential business. Attempted to question this but received a bit of a confrontational response so I let it go. Lose money if you like. One final note. The owner of Blue plate is a guy named Ted. This man has no business in any type of customer service business. He is very rude and just a nasty type of person.
