We have been on a Blue Plate Diner kick lately. It doesn't matter if it's breakfast or diner, whatever they make is beyond amazing and always delicious! I don't think I could pick a favorite if I had to. Their pancakes are better than homemade. Home fries are very flavorful. Love the chicken and waffles, pot roast, brisket. I have yet to find anything that I don't like. The staff are all super friendly and the diner is always clean and comfortable. Hands down our favorite place these days! read more

Loved the food, as well as the service here! We went for a late breakfast/early lunch. We were greeted by smiles as we entered. Everyone--the hostess, our server, and even a member of the prep staff, directing me to the bathroom, were happy and smiling. The server was attentive, without being intrusive. I ordered the Reuben sandwich, my favorite sandwich, so I've had a lot of them in a lot of places, and this was the best! They didn't skimp on corned beef, Swiss cheese, or sauerkraut! My husband ordered an omelet with toast and potatoes and said they were very good. The decor was American diner, with lettering on the beams that were takeoffs of Biblical sayings ("Thou shalt tip their waitress well" and others). The place was clean, including the bathrooms. If we get to RI again, this will definitely be on our list for a return visit. read more

This was my second time coming to the Blue Plate Diner. Thought I'd try it again. It was around 3 in the afternoon. I ordered a chicken wrap..West coast wrap?? And home fries. I have never experienced. so much grease/ butter whatever it was on my food. I specifically ordered that wrap thinking no grill needed for that . I used several napkins (so did my friend for her omelet) to soak up all the grease on the plate. I ended up eating some of what was inside the wrap and left the wrap. Home fries either over cooked or old. My friend got pancakes drenched in butter along with her omelet? I am not picky by any means. The only good food item was the fruit which h the girl gave me a big to go box?? On my way out I suggested a to go coffee cup with a lid. I went because I had the Newport dinner club book. I mentioned I went one other time before..and it was the same experience It's like someone pours oil over the whole plate. I can't figure out why there was oil all over my wrap! It wasn't griiled!! Ill never go there again. read more

Loved our Saturday morning breakfast at Blue Plate Diner! Not very crowded for a Saturday in early June at around 9:30am. We were seated quickly in a booth. All of the servers were friendly. Our food and drink were hot and fresh. Diner coffee can usually be pretty bad but theirs was delicious! We split the country omelette and cinnamon French toast. The country omelette wasn't dry and had all of the fixings to perfect proportion. And the French toast! Not dry either! Prefect crispy outer layer with a lovely dollop of butter. It was a bit chilly in there, but good friendly vibes all around. read more

Good old fashioned diner. Great food with good-sized portions and friendly service. Will definitely return if I'm in the area again.

We have been several times for dinner also for breakfast and service is always excellent. It is a diner setup inside and seating in very comfortable. We have enjoyed the fried chicken dinner, chicken and waffles and now they offer dinner specials during the week. Breakfast is usually eggs Benedict and eggs, corn beef hash and toast. Always leave full from our meals. read more

Pancakes were not very flavorful. Service was adequate but staff was quite apathetic and ambiance was neutral.

Just an average American breakfast diner, that's a little bit pricy to be honest. Food came out decently quickly, but I wasn't all too impressed with the French toast and sausage. Honestly it was lacking in flavor. We also ordered the pancakes, which were just mediocre, nothing too fluffy or exceptional. Egg was also standard. Great thing about this restaurant is the free parking! read more

I want to love this place, because in general, I love diners. It's ok for a few dishes, but I wouldn't stray too far from diner mainstay dishes. As far as decor goes, it's more family-style restaurant than diner. Service is always pretty good, though. Everyone is very friendly. Food is all right. I rarely stray away from the crow's nest or shepherd's pie (they do beef, not lamb, for those who want to split hairs between shepherd's pie and cottage pie). Both are decent enough. Pair that with a diner coffee. read more

After 20 years they still only have pork as a breakfast meat before 11am. No turkey bacon, no turkey or chicken sausage, no Impossible meat. Absolutely never going to change. So the 43% of you who don't want that go to the Rome Point Diner in North Kingstown read more

If there's one thing you don't expect from a diner, it's good food for dinner. Blue Plate however definitely proved us wrong! I had the Reuben sandwich with a salad for dinner and my husband had the meatloaf- all delicious- and beautifully plated. The kids had homemade mac n cheese and chicken tenders- pretty standard but that Mac n cheese was delicious (and did I mention HOMEMADE?!) - definitely not that Kraft crap some of the restaurants serve around here! Of course I forgot the pics! Service was great- the waitress was extremely pleasant and patient with us! Diner vibes for sure- neat sayings all around the dining area, even a back room for a larger party! read more

We just hit the diner for the first time. We got a milkshake and burger, chili and meat loaf with a mile high turkey dinner. We all agreed that the food was above average. Fresh mashed potatoes, slabs of turkey, and the beef chili was super. I stopped just so I had some to bring home. Prices atmosphere and service are excellent. We will be back soon. read more

Great service, easy to follow menu with great breakfast options - happy camper! Stepping into this place really felt like stepping back in time with the diner set up. Parking was available - a plus - and the building felt accessible. Booths were spacious, counter space at the coffee bar and regular bar if that's more your thing. I enjoyed my breakfast, felt it was reasonably priced and food came out really quickly! read more

Used to go here often then kind of got away from it when Covid struck. A friend recently told me it's his "go to" fave for breakfast so on my birthday we went. Our food was delicious! Yay! Oh and I might add their pancakes are huge. Can't wait to return. read more

On an island filled with exciting dining opportunities, this is just another diner. It's aggressively fine.

I believe that people who rate this high have never truly been to a diner. As someone from Jersey (home of the diners) this place is not the best. I gave it 3 stars bc nothing was rlly wrong except the waitress being rude and the parking being from hell. The food wasn't even good fr you're better off going to the corner café or anywhere in downtown newport. read more

We came here on a whim as we were in the area and super hungry for brunch. This was our plan B, as a different place we wanted to try had a line that you would not believe. I can't say Blue Plate had the most amazing brunch ever but it certainly was not bad either. Overall, just kinda meh mostly due to lack of seasoning and a tad on the greasy side. We felt like we could make better quality at home, but we were dining here out of convenience so that wasn't an option. I'd give this place another try and I am eager to try the regular lunch/dinner menu, since some of those dishes look/sound amazing. Service was EXCELLENT and our server was extremely helpful with some of our menu questions around dairy/lactose. I ordered a classic 2-egg breakfast with a side of 1 pancake. The pancake was delicious but wish they had real maple syrup to go along with it. The syrup featured here is the high fructose variety that barely resembles maple syrup. The pancake overall cooked well and had good flavor. My eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, but on the bland side. Kind of flavorless. I don't think they had salt or pepper. The potatoes were on the oily side and loaded with paprika or some similar seasoning, so they really tasted of only oil and paprika. Not much seasoning or flavor otherwise. Some potatoes were really oily/greasy. Bacon was great and cooked extra crispy which is exactly how I love it. My girlfriend had an omelette which I tried and it was great, although admittedly again it seemed to lack seasoning. It was full of fresh veggies and ham though and seemed really healthy and a huge portion. Everything was very fast and I think we went from parking to eating in less than 10 mins. Price was very reasonable. read more

First visit here and I do not understand the lower ratings. For us it's a 5 star review. The Hashlette Cheese Omelette was remarkable, home fries nice and their coffee above average for a diner. Overall very very good . Pay them a visit and you'll thank me later. Breakfast is served all day! read more

Had brunch at blue plate and it was very good for 11am on a sunday before tourist season starts! i had a make your own omelets which came out just as i wanted it to, although my drink was weird- a fruit smoothie with booze in it, my fault for not reading the ingredients LOL My guy loved his Ruben and had a bloody mary that was just basic not knock your socks off. But all in all we would be back there for breakfast again, in the future. read more

We have dined at Blue Plate, often, since it first opened. The owner and staff are friendly and efficient. It is a comfortable place to go, and can relax to have a nice visit with old friends or new friends. The food is sometimes very good, but often mediocre. A friend an I especially like their hamburgers. For years, their BLT was my "go to" selection. However, the the last one I had was the worst BLT I have ever had, period. I regret, I didn't tell Ted, the owner. The ambiance is OK, but Ted need to make a few repairs that would not be a major expense. read more

This place is a great local joint. The corned beef mash is worth coming back. I actually did - while I was in Newport for a conference - I stopped for breakfast two days in a row for the corned beef hash - delicious. I also recommend the blueberry pancakes. They are awesome. The place is spiritless and the service is quick. If I had only one complaint - it would be that I had to ask for coffee. Maybe it's just me, but when I'm at a diner, I literally have to say no more coffee! I love how they walk around and always keep your cup full. Not here. Here you have to ask - it's absolutely fine. They are quick to fill, once you ask. And the coffee is a delicious breakfast blend. So other than that very small complaint - the diner is awesome. Thanks for two great visits - I shall return read more

The food was amazing. The service was top notch and the atmosphere was comfortable as well as a clean establishment. Would recommend!!

Welcoming classic diner environment. You can sit at the counter or get a booth. Staff was so welcoming and friendly. Breakfast is served all day and lunch/dinner items served after 11am. Food: -Portuguese Omlette: 4/5- Good amounts of chourico sausage, 3 eggs with peppers and cheese.
