I came to Blue Plate with some coworkers while in town for a couple of weeks. Our group had 7 people in it, and we came on a Monday morning around 9 am (this was a holiday). We were able to sit in adjacent booths, which was no big deal as we mostly just talked amongst ourselves at our tables. The service was quite quick and attentive. I ordered the 2 egg American breakfast (can't remember the exact name), with over medium eggs, bacon (I gave this away), and an English muffin (all of the egg breakfasts come with breakfast potatoes as well). All of the food was decent - I mean it was diner food, so it wasn't extravagant, but it was good. My eggs were indeed over medium, but they were cooked in a way to give that weird green color on the bottom, and no flavor (I also understand the concept of cooking eggs plain and letting consumers do their own salt/pep). My breakfast potatoes were fine, and seasoned well, so no complaints there. I also had a piece of cinnamon french toast from a coworker's plate, which left a bit to be desired in my opinion - it was a bit dry for my taste, but again, it was cheap and fast, overall, not bad. I also had a hot chocolate, which was fine. Overall, solid place, but nothing to write home about. read more

Cute diner with that classic diner vibe!!! It was Valentine's Day and my husband and I decided last minute to go out to eat. Every other local restaurant was completely booked. When we drove past the Blue Plate Diner there was only one vehicle in the parking lot. We thought, might be kinda nice to have the place to ourselves so we went in. We'd been here prior to Covid so we were excited to choose something from their very large menu. Sadly due to Covid the menu had been cut down quite dramatically. We usually have a tough time picking what we want because they usually have so much to choose from. This time we had a tough time choosing what to eat because sadly the little they did have on the menu was unappealing. We of course understand that due to Covid some restaurants have been hit more than others, sadly this charming diner is one of them. For drinks we asked for Shirley Temples. The waitress seemed a bit confused and said she'd ask if they carried that? Our guess was she didn't know what a Shirley temple was. When she came back she said they were all out so we just ordered Ginger Ales. For a starter we ordered the nachos. While their homemade nacho chips were absolutely delicious, everything else that came with the nachos fell short. The meat didn't quite taste fresh. For entrees my husband ordered the Shepherd's Pie and I ordered the West Coast breakfast wrap. I asked for NO Sun dried tomatoes, they ended up putting them on the burrito anyway. We aren't ones to complain especially during a pandemic so I picked them out. I was surprised when the waitress saw me doing this that she didn't at least apologize for the mistake. After the sun dried tomatoes were removed the breakfast burrito otherwise tasted pretty good. My husband said the Shepherd's Pie was OK, that the meat was the same as the meat in the nachos. Again fell short. Both of us maybe ate a quarter of the food. Typically we don't order dessert but considering it was Valentine's Day and we weren't stuffed from dinner we ordered a Peanut Butter Bomb to split. Have to say it was definitely the best part of the meal. Hoping once things get back to normal they'll be able to bring back their full menu. P.S we haven't gone here for breakfast in awhile but would like to add that in the past we find that their breakfast is always excellent! read more

Walked in with a party of 10. Place was empty other than a decent size party in the back room and 2 people in the main area and was given a terrible attitude right when we walked in. We offered to split up the party into multiple tables to make it easier for them. We were told very rudely that "your going to be waiting for a long time we have to take care of everyone else before we will be able to seat you and feed you." So our party decided to go elsewhere. I've had buttered lobster tail, lobster Mac and cheese, and lobster in pasta, but never as a cheese sandwich. But this was a combo plate so more on that later. Let's talk about their fries. OMG theses were good!!!! No they were really good. They were stiff as a board, you can hear the crunch when bitten into, and perfect temp even down to the last fry. It's a diner they should know how to do fries and they excel. What you don't expect is how the sandwich taste. OMG (yes again) this sandwich was mind blowing!!! Lobster plenty of it. Brie plenty of the gooey substance. Bread covered with just the right amount of butter. Put them all together and I would gladly say to Flo "Heck yea I'll kiss your grits for a sandwich like this"!!! It was really good from start to finish. Every bite made the taste buds dance with joy. A combination of tasty fries, delicious sandwich, and Diet Coke (yea no Coke Zero) was a pleasant lunch. Overall four stars. Plenty of seating and large counter lets you enjoy elbow room while you eat. Service was good. And I enjoyed the large somewhat visible kitchen. My friend had a great meat lovers pancake which is great with just butter. I was not so happy because there isn't any vegan options. Everything has egg or milk in it and I'm allergic to both. I went to this diner with a few of my girl friends after watching a movie nearby at around 2 in the morning. Nowhere seemed to be open except here, which turned out to be just fine. I ended up ordering banana foster french toast, which tasted so, so good. I knew it had to be terrible for my health though. Dinner - last night. The wife & I, driving by, hungry; on a trip. We like diners, so off we go. It was a good choice. 1st time here; there will be a second. Service was friendly & attentive. Seated right away. Drink orders first. Order taking 5 minutes later. Food arrived in a reasonable time. Waitress passed by at least 3 times after food arrived to check in. No wait for the check. Quite good. Food: soup of the day was a split pea with a rich meat/beef sauce. Super - the is quite amazing flavor. I was not expecting a soup this good. Me: Sheppard's pie - corn, peas, hamburger, mashed potatoes & dark gravy. Good, but not great. After having the soup, this was a bit bland. But then, I don't expect a Shepard's pie to be super flavorful - it is comfort food, & I was pleasantly full after eating. My wife said she enjoyed her turkey club - I had a quarter of the sandwich. This diner is clean, the food was as expected for a diner, and in fact was pretty good. I would go again if not for the horrible service. Our server was rude, never came back to see if we needed anything. She had a white t-shirt on that looked dirty (bad impression), coffee stains and dirt on her shirt, it was a huge turn off. I had to wait over 15 minutes for her to come pick up bill so I could pay and leave. I eventually went up to her to give her bill and my card, in which she replied, "go back to your seat I'll get it when I'm ready." Instead, my daughter had to go to another employee and pay so we could leave. I will not be going back there. Customer service is important to me. read more

We wanted to play in Newport on this gorgeous Sunday, and decided it would be nice to start off with breakfast there. I yelped a few places, and was amazed at the ridiculous prices. Come here for good diner food! It's clean inside(including the bathrooms) and the food is good. They even have nitro cold brew coffee and a full bar! I got the all American breakfast and asked for a pancake. Their bacon is cooked crispy and the potatoes were not undercooked like a lot of diners make them. Breakfast is served all day.
