We love Greek food, so when I found this place on Yelp and realized that it was just down the street from our hotel, well, it became a foregone conclusion that we would eat here !! And eat here, we did !! YiaYia's was so good. We ordered a bowl of lentil soup to share, which was delicious. Then, we each got our own pita sandwich. My husband ordered the GYRO PITA, which had grilled gyro meat, peppers, tomato, onion & tzatziki sauce, and I ordered an EGGPLANT PITA, which had fresh mozzarella, feta, grilled eggplant & olive oil, sitting open face on some grilled pita bread. We swapped half of our sandwiches, so we could each try the other's. We both liked the gyro pita a little more than mine (the eggplant), but make no mistake, they were BOTH GREAT. His was just a little bit better... so he told me afterward he was sorry he gave up his half sandwich... even though he liked the eggplant. I understood... but was secretly glad I got his half cuz it was really good. : ) We spoke with the owners, who were very nice. They asked us to come back, and while we said we would... and had every intention to do so cuz the food was so good, we just ran ourselves out of time. I was thinking we could get there for breakfast the next day, but it never happened... so for me, that just means we'll have to make good on the deal and get back to Newport (someday) and get that breakfast !! "I LOVE YIAYIA'S CAFE!!" I proudly scream from the rooftops. My bf and I love to come here for a nice quiet breakfast. The interior is decorated with a pretty white-and-blue motif that is definitely fitting. It's small, and not usually crowded so we typically can choose where to sit. It's become our favorite spot to go on the weekends, over places like Atlantic grill or aquidneck pizza. It's just so much cozier, and it's women-owned, which I will always support! The food is delicious. The spanakopita is my favorite, its fluffy and perfectly cheesy while not being dense or greasy. The greek yogurt is so creamy and delicious, the bacon is both crunchy and juicy at the same time. My bf loves to get the different wraps because he tends to like a large breakfast. They have lots of options for breakfast and lunch. I also love the vanilla iced latte, I think they put some ice cream in it. It tastes amazing. If you're wondering about YiaYia's cafe, definitely come try it. I feel like lots of people think it's only for those staying at the Sea Breeze Inn, or haven't been for whatever reason. The atmosphere here is so inviting, and the detailing of the space really gives Greek café vibes. The service was outstanding from the owners personally greeting us at the door to our server,Makalah, who was so knowledgeable about the menu. I came with my mother, and we both ordered the club sandwiches, which were delicious. I also had the Greek salad, and it was amazing the vegetables were incredibly fresh and the feta was creamy and flavorful. We paired our meal with local Del's lemonade, which was the perfect refreshing touch for a summer afternoon. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great spot to enjoy a Newport summer day. Overall, I can't recommend this place enough. Though we have been to Aquidneck Island numerous times in the past, this was our first meal at YiaYia's Cafe. The morning of our visit was warm and delightful so we chose to dine on the outside deck which proved to be both scenic and refreshing. We each chose a crepe, she with strawberries and cream while I went with apples, cinnamon and brown sugar. Many things may change in this world but one thing that won't in the hospitality and great food offered by Telly and Leeza! Looking for Greek breakfast? This is the place to go. A very Greek themed menu, in a beautiful little inn. There is limited parking, and just a few tables inside, but the service is terrific and the food is outstanding. The baklava was terrific, I would have preferred it with a little bit more honey. The watermelon feta basil plate was also terrific, I would have liked more basil but the cheese to fruit ratio was on point. We also had another dessert dish with some cream inside which was amazing. We stopped in for lunch while visiting Newport. It was slightly difficult to find because there isn't really signage at all on the outside of the building but after some detective work, we were able to locate it. It is inside the Sea Breeze Inn. There was ample seating on a Tuesday at around 2pm. We elected to sit outside on the deck to enjoy the breeze. The view isn't the best but there is some water in the distance for what it's worth. The menu contains so many delicious options (including veg options!) that it's quite difficult to choose. If you know us, you know that we don't choose but instead just order a bunch of shit to share and that was our strategy for this meal. We were eyeing a vegetable platter on the menu that looked incredible but we were informed that they did not have that which required us to quickly adjust our order on the spot. I already had another selection on deck and ordered the Greek avocado "toast", GF ordered the pita plate, and we both ordered the spanakopita and baked lemon potatoes to share. The pita plate was brought out in short order. It contains smallish portions of hummus, olive spread, tzatziki and an inadequate amount of soft and warm pita. The tzatziki was smooth and creamy, thicker than some I've had before. The hummus was more "grainy" than the more traditional Israeli versions with which I am more familiar. The olive dip was amazinng. We definitely could have used more pita, and don't think we didn't use every square mm of pita as a vehicle for dip, as I was forced to resort to eating the dips with a fork like a rabid animal in order to come close to finishing. The baked lemon potatoes were absolutely incredible. The potato bits were soft and luscious with a delicious and crispy crust. The flavor was also divine. These didn't last long on the plate. The spanakopita was one of the best I've had in memory. This was round instead of the flat, horizontal layers I have experienced before. It was piping hot when it came out with paper thin phyllo dough and tasty. fillling. My Greek avocado toast was more like an avocado pita sandwich with slices of avocado, tomato, olive spread, and the most creamy and delicious feta cheese wrapped in a soft and warm pita. This was spectacular and combined fresh and Mediterranean spin on a classic. Other than some minor hiccups, we had a wonderful meal at YiaYia. read more

Yiayia has it going on!!! We were in Newport to celebrate our anniversary. By the last day, we had had enough of fancy food with French sauces and raw fish. So, when we had a little time before going to the airport, we looked for a casual place for breakfast. My spouse found Yiayia's Cafe and - since I am Greek and grew up in a Greek restaurant family - that is where we decided to go. The place is actually in Middletown but just across the little spit of land from where we were staying in Newport. We could have walked! The dining room was clean and bright, well taken care of! The tables and chairs were far enough apart that we did not feel cramped. The decorations, though minimal, were sufficiently "Greeky" and added a nice little ambience. You had some water views between the buildings across the street. But it was the 3 people working who were lovely. The Brazilian server, the Italian-Filipino server and Yiayia herself were all cute as buttons and aiming to please. The service was fast and friendly! Yiayia was of course cooking everything but she found time to come out from the kitchen and talk to everyone! That was so nice and made us feel the Yiayia love from when my own Yiayia was alive. And this Yiayia, as well as my own, was ADORABLE! She talked about her 11 grandkids and was happy and bubbly. The food was good and, as expected, filled us up. Comfort food at its best. Thank you, Yiayia, for a great goodbye breakfast from Newport!!! I look forward to going back to Newport and crossing the little spit of land to Middletown to visit Yiayia again! This is a nice little find. Some of the local patrons can be a little loud but heh they live here. The food is excellent and the service is great. The Horiatiki (Greek Salad) is fresh! Located at the bottom of a quaint inn giving all the cape cod beach vibes, this cafe is just soothing to the soul. With a view of the water, and a patio seating option, I could come here every day! A small but perfect breakfast menu, I recommend the crepes or the make your own omelet. I ordered a decaf espresso and it was like I was in Europe again- perfect foam and served with a biscoff cookie. I wasn't blown away by the food here, I've definitely had better Greek food at many other places, nevertheless lunch here was a really pleasant experience. The ambiance is really lovely and they have a great cup of coffee, so if you're looking for a relaxing view over the beach side of Newport, dining out on the deck here will definitely check that box. I went with the gyro pita and while I absolutely loved the crispy exterior--something I haven't seen before with a gyro sandwich--there was practically no meat in it. Down visiting my sister in desperate need of a coffee and this spot popped up. I must have misread the hours as the owners popped out and alerted me that they were closed.
