This place is legendary. As you'll discover upon scrolling further and reading more reviews....the prices are crazy. A coffee and a tea was $21 (small coffee - standard size tea with honey). Funny enough I went back later to buy a banana cause my stomach was not feeling great (too many Guiness at O'briens)....the banana was $5!! HAHAHAHA Honestly I'm happy I went because it is a really funny memory to have. I'll always remember the really expensive coffee place in Newport that has average coffee. The owner is adamant that it's the best quality, imported, yada yada....I'm sure she's correct, but my group and I had coffee at Nitro the day before and it was better at a lower price. I thought the owner was very nice and friendly, she's obviously successful as they've been in business so long, but I think that's more a result of being one of the few coffee spots in a heavily trafficked tourist area. Very cute shop in an excellent location. Very close to the hotels nearby. The owner was so sweet and welcoming and we chatted for a few minutes! My one concern was the pricing. I do have to say the one thing I love about her and this place is that with all the in coming traffic and tourist. She remembers her customers. It makes you feel welcomed. To get good coffee and have a good conversation catching up. It's a much bigger location than her last. Leaves room for more seating. It's bright and warm. So if you ever need a good coffee, latte or anything caffinated this is the place to come too. Avoid this place at all costs! It's not worth it. We always go to local independent coffee spots and are used to paying premium prices for good coffee. This was the worst Americano I have ever had. It was weak and smelled musty. We got 2 medium Americanos (which were obviously small) and 2 pastries for $38! That was a Costco muffin that was still partially frozen. The banana bread was really dense and pretty flavorless. There are plenty of other small coffees places nearby that are worth the wait and price. This was clearly a tourist trap. We were staying at the Hammetts right across the walk and didn't want to travel far to get some coffee and breakfast treats. Such a convenient location in the heart of Newport.. right on the harbor. Alissa was over the top full of life and energy, which was addictive! She mentioned that she makes all of the baked goods herself... the cheese danish was delicious! Every other coffee joint has a line out the door on weekend mornings, but the Coffee Grinder is virtually empty. They - and you - should take the hint. We came here when we wanted to sit by the water while we waited for our dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant. They had some seating by the water which brought us there. They are extremely overpriced. Like other reviewers have said, a soy latte and apple cider were close to $20. Inside this cafe, they utilize the space by clustering their pastries complimenting their hot or cold beverages. Normally I don't like clusters of things but when it's a delicately small business, it has a charm to it. Chai Tea Latte- I don't remember seeing this on their menu and because I wanted steamed milk with my tea, the staff asked if I wanted to try their chai tea latte. It was the perfect drink when it's cold, cinnamony-spice with frothy milk.
