I ordered a small iced chai latte here before work. The owner was very nice but chatted at me for 20 minutes before making my drink. The actual drink tasted like somebody sprinkled cinnamon into oat milk with no chai flavor. And the drink in a SMALL cost $15 which is obscene. She was the only one working so she obviously puts in a ton of non-stop work... BUT THE PRICES. Holy moly. I get its Newport, but we paid $28 for two cold brews and a bottle of water. Coffee was average too. WE GOT CHARGED A DOLLAR EXTRA PER COFFEE FOR ICE. THEY WERE COLD BREWS, THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ICED. Then we got charged another dollar per coffee for vanilla syrup. This place is legendary. As you'll discover upon scrolling further and reading more reviews....the prices are crazy. A coffee and a tea was $21 (small coffee - standard size tea with honey). Funny enough I went back later to buy a banana cause my stomach was not feeling great (too many Guiness at O'briens)....the banana was $5!! HAHAHAHA Honestly I'm happy I went because it is a really funny memory to have. I'll always remember the really expensive coffee place in Newport that has average coffee. The owner is adamant that it's the best quality, imported, yada yada....I'm sure she's correct, but my group and I had coffee at Nitro the day before and it was better at a lower price. I thought the owner was very nice and friendly, she's obviously successful as they've been in business so long, but I think that's more a result of being one of the few coffee spots in a heavily trafficked tourist area. So either the large influx of tourist help keep the business alive, or other patrons chalk it up to "well it's Newport and things are expensive". I think in a more competitive market this business would be forced to lower their prices, but hey power to them. $5 for a banana is legit comical and legendary....for what it's worth it was a good banana. read more

The shop has a cool atmosphere and the lady that works there is really nice. However, the coffee is not as great as it sounds - I got an irish cream for my husband and a monkey mocha for myself and they both tasted the same. It also takes a long time to get coffee. I love this place! We were visiting Newport and needed a nice place to warm up since it was a rainy fall day. The strudel was so good - felt like a hug. Okay, so where do I start. Small businesses are hard in this time of day. I first started coming here 5 years ago. 3 or 4 times a year. I love the friendliness. The owner works so hard. I do have to say the one thing I love about her and this place is that with all the in coming traffic and tourist. She remembers her customers. It makes you feel welcomed. To get good coffee and have a good conversation catching up. It's a much bigger location than her last. Leaves room for more seating. It's bright and warm. So if you ever need a good coffee, latte or anything caffinated this is the place to come too. We came by this coffee shop on a rainy morning and much appreciated that they're dog-friendly. The owner was very friendly and chatty. She told us she baked all the pastries herself. I'm always willing to pay for quality, but 2 lattes, 1 zucchini bread, and 1 banana bread for $41 + tips was beyond my wildest expectations. The coffee and the pastries were good, the cafe cute. Each item was $10-15 which is the most expensive I've ever seen at a coffee shop (and I am visiting from LA). We were staying at the Hammetts right across the walk and didn't want to travel far to get some coffee and breakfast treats. Such a convenient location in the heart of Newport.. right on the harbor. Alissa was over the top full of life and energy, which was addictive! She mentioned that she makes all of the baked goods herself... the cheese danish was delicious! She offered to warm it up, which was very thoughtful. I ordered a white chocolate raspberry iced latte which didn't really taste like it had any coffee in it, but maybe that is a good thing. She was also thoughtful of my 11 year old who we are keeping away from caffeine and made hers as a steamer which just milk. A small croissant wrapped in cellophane (that bore a striking resemblance to those at Cosco) cost $9. Five small pastries should not cost more than $50. Every other coffee joint has a line out the door on weekend mornings, but the Coffee Grinder is virtually empty. They - and you - should take the hint. Avoid this place at all costs! It's not worth it. We always go to local independent coffee spots and are used to paying premium prices for good coffee. This was the worst Americano I have ever had. It was weak and smelled musty. We got 2 medium Americanos (which were obviously small) and 2 pastries for $38! That was a Costco muffin that was still partially frozen. The banana bread was really dense and pretty flavorless. There are plenty of other small coffees places nearby that are worth the wait and price. This was clearly a tourist trap. They are extremely overpriced. Like other reviewers have said, a soy latte and apple cider were close to $20. Visiting Newport, I've walked along the pier right to the end where this little cafe is located man times. Outside they have a picturesque coastal view, sometimes with all the boats on the dock, public seats to relax on, maybe not now but pre-covid, and this conveniently placed cafe. Inside this cafe, they utilize the space by clustering their pastries complimenting their hot or cold beverages. Normally I don't like clusters of things but when it's a delicately small business, it has a charm to it. Chai Tea Latte- I don't remember seeing this on their menu and because I wanted steamed milk with my tea, the staff asked if I wanted to try their chai tea latte. It was the perfect drink when it's cold, cinnamony-spice with frothy milk. Overall Service: I've had a lot of good memories with everyone I've traveled through with and the staff has always been great. read more

Overcharging a largely captive audience again last week. $7.51 for a 16 oz coffee. I didn't have time to argue or simply refuse the coffee, sadly. Avoid if possible The lady working there also somehow gets away with charging $15 for a small slice of pound cake. It would be funny if it wasn't blatant robbery. read more
