    Blueberry cake
    Bre B.

Searched yelp for cafe near me and chose Picnic because it looked intriguing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a really adorable cafe connected to an inn-great choices, delicious pastries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I chose the blueberry cake...sweet, moist and loaded with berries,so good! The roast chicken sandwich had perfect proportions of meat, greens, and mayo-I chose multigrain bread which was excellent. My only constructive guidance was that the coleslaw was too vinegary tart for me but I loved the potato salad! I got blackberry mocha coffee with oatmilk-creamy deliciousness! Really great find here I'll def return! Check it out you won't regret.

    Sad salad

Not too hungry and tired after walking all around Newport so decided to grab a quick salad to go at this cute little shop. Ordered the "Antioxidant Salad". Sounded so good with blueberries, almonds, cranberries and greens. Plus the photos of other salads looked great with plenty of colorful ingredients. Unfortunately when I got back to my hotel I found this sad small salad. Eventually I found a few blueberries in the bottom and the greens were fresh enough but very disappointing considering the price.

Solid spot. My boyfriend and I came for a light lunch after passing by the corner cafe and seeing the long line. We shared a grilled cheese which came with cold slaw, salad, and potato salad. We also got a delicious Reese's cookie. I enjoyed the chocolate pistachio latte, the black cherry one was really good too! This cafe is also attached to a hotel. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outdoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are plenty of nice shops around too.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Popped into Picnic for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of delicious baked goods and the quaint atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were welcomed in and our questions answered as we ordered. My friends had the summer strawberry salad and I had a bowl of clam chowder (even in summer, chowder makes me happy). Their salads were lovely and portioned well. My chowder came with a ciabatta roll which was the highlight- the chowder too thin and lacked clams- the broth tasty and potatoes held, but it's not a highlight of their menu. We also grabbed a couple of their enormous cookies to go- Reese's PB Cup cookie was soft and sinful and the chocolate chip was the perfect ratio of sweet and salty. I think sandwiches and pastry are the way to go for the next visit!

One weekend afternoon in April 2026 I decided to pastry taste five spots in Newport Rhode Island. Unfortunately Picnic came in 5 of 5. I got a blueberry muffin and a sort of pound cake with coconut frosting. Both were fairly bland and the muffin was even overbaked on the top. Perhaps they cater to folks who don't like much sweetness in their patries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was pleasant enough ambience and design wise[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but the staff seemed very uninspired and even morose. In my opinion there are much better pastry shops in town.

    Spinach feta pastry

Coffee was okay, but I reaaally enjoyed the food here! Had a spinach feta pastry and soup of the day (at the time was Italian Wedding Soup) which came with bread, butter, and oyster crackers. The pastries look delightful in their cases... so worth it to get a selection warmed up for your walk home!

One of the best pastries I've had! Everything tasted so good and fresh even at the end of the day. We came in 15 minutes before closing but ordered a variety of pastries. Each one of them were good. The peanut butter cookie, double chocolate chip cookie, blueberry muffin, strawberry cheesecake loaf, lemon cake, pain au chocolate and almond croissant! The drinks were good too but the pastries stood out the most.

I stayed at Hotel Viking across the street but I gravitated to Picnic for my morning coffee and lunch. What I was most impressed with was the freshness of everything offered. The baked goods are fresh and baked on premises Soups are made on premises Nice lunch offerings They know how to use the espresso machine Picnic opens at 8? I was at the door 7:59 getting my latte. I must point out, they are many unique breakfast offerings. There are tarts with eggs baked in the middle as well as lots of savory baked item choices. I had lunch here twice, I ordered a New England Clam Chowder and Lobster Salad. A typical New England lunch, I'm sure they're serving these items in grade school with coffee milk. Rhode Island baby! My soup was amazing and came with a side of warm, freshly baked bread. My lobster salad was all lobstery, not made with fillers and was a large portion so no complaints from me. Picnic, it was a pleasure to dine at your establishment for the week.

Enjoyed the egg croissant at Picnic. The croissant was buttery and fresh. The employees were friendly and there is a cute sitting area to eat your food. No wifi or laptops allowed to encourage being present and conversation.

Food: very delicious. Their pastries are delicious. We walked 15 minutes to get croissants and ended up getting bunch of other pastries. Service: this is a small place. You order at the counter and take your stuff. If you order coffee etc, they quickly bring it to your table. Value: prices are OK. They are a tad on the high side but croissants are really, really good. The place is really cute and I would highly recommend it.

Seafood is on the menu and we started with two stuffies or stuff quahogs and a clam cakes appetizers. Probably too much fried out of the gate but when in Rome... The clam cakes were individual and easier for sharing and were my fav between the two. Stuffie was for old times sake. Had the lobster roll, one of three on a New England vacation. Came with fries. Tasty of course but I think I prefer my bun toasted and the lobster meat in larger pieces rather than chopped up as is the case here. Best was the company catching up with old friends. Less experienced wait staff but it is the summer and these kids need jobs. We were all patient and super upbeat kids working hard to do a good job.

Reservations were easy to make through Resy and we were even able to adjust the time same-day. I had the bolognese which was good, but not $26 good if that makes sense. My fiancé got the chicken sandwich which was "fine" but nothing special. Overall a fine time but would only come back for the views.

And eat here, we did !! YiaYia's was so good. We ordered a bowl of lentil soup to share, which was delicious. Then, we each got our own pita sandwich. My husband ordered the GYRO PITA, which had grilled gyro meat, peppers, tomato, onion & tzatziki sauce, and I ordered an EGGPLANT PITA, which had fresh mozzarella, feta, grilled eggplant & olive oil, sitting open face on some grilled pita bread. We swapped half of our sandwiches, so we could each try the other's. We both liked the gyro pita a little more than mine (the eggplant), but make no mistake, they were BOTH GREAT. His was just a little bit better... so he told me afterward he was sorry he gave up his half sandwich... even though he liked the eggplant. I understood... but was secretly glad I got his half cuz it was really good. : ) We spoke with the owners, who were very nice. They asked us to come back, and while we said we would... and had every intention to do so cuz the food was so good, we just ran ourselves out of time. I was thinking we could get there for breakfast the next day, but it never happened... so for me, that just means we'll have to make good on the deal and get back to Newport (someday) and get that breakfast !! Too bad we live 3,000 miles away. It might take us awhile.

We decided to make a little outing of it and ordered the large cinnamon bun, a raspberry doughnut, and two pupusas. The food itself? Good. The cinnamon bun definitely lived up to the hype (only reason for 2 stars), and everything else was decent. Unfortunately, the overall experience took away from it. From the moment we walked in, it felt like you were being moved through like cattle. Everything felt very rushed, and there wasn't really time to stop, look at the menu, or figure out what you wanted without feeling pressured to keep moving. While the bakery items came out quickly, we still ended up waiting about 30 minutes after checkout for the rest of the food. The atmosphere was also incredibly loud, and there seemed to be confusion among staff about whose order belonged to who and what name matched which ticket. On top of that, the trash area was piled high, and instead of changing it right away, an employee brought out a new bag and just set it in front of the overflowing trash, which wasn't the best look. Overall: good food, disappointing experience. Felt chaotic and stressful rather than enjoyable.
