Coming for years so disappointed this year. Service and quality so down this year. I ordered salmon with lox, they were out of salmon, ordered a veggie pesto, hardly any pesto. Our sandwiches were done and in the past would be brought to us ... now just sitting on the counter in a bag we were eating in. I wanted to order a chicken salad sandwich last week and because it was before lunch i was told there would be 1.00 upcharge. No where on the menu does it say that. i woke up SO excited to get my morning coffee and was disappointed after coming here. I ordered my coffee with whole milk, took a sip of it when I got it, it clearly was not made as I had ordered it. I've been to Java Madness dozens of times over the years (mostly in the summer). Their bagel sandwiches are tasty and they have very good coffee and gorgeous views with ample seating outside on the deck overlooking the marina. However, my recent experience really turned me off when I went with my family (6 of us). The young woman who took our order was very unfriendly and rude (just to us, she was fine for customers before and after) and was clearly very annoyed by our large order... not sure why since it was a basic straightforward order, close to $70 plus tip. Asked for no onions on one sandwich and got extra onions. Asked for hot apple cider and got cold. Asked for bagels to be toasted and not a single one was toasted. Lox sandwiches were pathetic, light cream cheese on only one side and a single slice of very thin lox. We didn't bother bringing anything back because they were busy, we were hungry, and didn't want to further annoy the young women. Perhaps it's the college season Fall staff (versus summer staff) because Java Madness was previously quite family friendly with books and puzzles for kiddos. Our usual favorite beverages are brewed flavored coffees (all delish, very smooth) and the big train vanilla chai (hot or iced). Favorite bagel sandwiches are lox & caper (usually generous portions), the Sicilian, the veggie pesto. Did this experience this experience rub me the wrong way? Yep, quite a bit. Will I go back? I didn't even know this little coffee joint was here out of all the times I have driven through. The vanilla iced chai was ok a little thick for my tasting but good flavor. The lemon poppy seed muffin was delicious, not dry. Prices are your average. They are taken Covid measures and have tape aligning the deck so all are properly spaced apart. If I visit again I would have them make the sandwich since they just grabbed it from the window and from the board I thought they would've made day of. My sandwich was soggy and not the best. The pickle was really good tho! Chai latte: they wouldn't serve frozen drinks which is what I wanted so I order the chai latte and it wasn't mixed well. A lot of reviews on this place seem to comment on the fact that the location is what keeps it in business and that is the only thing inherently special about it. I beg to differ. I came in to Java Madness about a week ago with my mother because we were passing through and needed an afternoon pick me up. The girls on staff there were all very sweet - the barista who made my mom's latte made it wrong (my mom needs soy milk) and when we informed her of her error (she made it with regular milk) she apologized and made a new latte right away. Mom loved the latte and thought it was fresh. I had a chai latte- I love chais. They are generally the only thing I get at places like this unless I'm really tired and in need of some serious coffee. My chai was average- not the best I have ever had and if I come here again I will probably try something else. Overall, the staff was incredibly friendly, coffee was great, chai not as much. Sitting out on the deck was great though, the view was beautiful. There was a thunder storm rolling in while we were there and listening to that was incredibly peaceful. read more

I took a drive down to Wakefield to try Java a much hyped location part of RI food fights. I was not impressed with the coffee or the service. An older man who appeared to be the owner or manager was shocked it was already July when an employee showed him my coupon. He made sure to loudly announce it was only good for a small cold brew and not any flavored coffee. I decided to not grab anything to eat based on the service. The coffee was basic cold brew, nothing I would go out of the way to get again. I was disappointed as I feel they likely do have something special to offer but instead they went for the cheapest alternative and if that's how you promote yourself I'm not going to argue. I just happened upon this place this week for a meeting. I ordered an iced latte and it was very good. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy on a rainy day. In nicer weather, I bet it is a great spot to sit outside and look at the boats. My friend ordered a hot chai and a scone and enjoyed his meal as well. Sorry everyone, but the espresso drinks here are aweful. I'm a big fan of local businesses, but they have to produce. After walking in and seeing the setup, my expectations were low. I decided to order a cafe mocha, since it is the most forgiving of espresso drinks. What I got was a bad combination of bitter, bad-tasting beans and sickly-sweet chocolate. Amazing flavored coffee roasts without added sweeteners. Favorite place for this! Their summer flavor Maui Madness is the best in my opinion, with notes of coconut, banana, cocoa, and nuts. The food is pretty good too! Only downside to this café is that the bagels seem to be from frozen and the smoothies aren't made from whole fresh ingredients (I think they just blend up a fruit mixture with ice) read more

I recently went back here after years of being out of the area. It's just as I remember, with all the same little quirks, the big deck and the tasty food/drinks. I walked in at the end of a music set by a young kid doing some John Mayer covers. I won't say that all the performers here are good, but I like to support local art and music, regardless. This kid couldn't have been more than 17, so why not sit back and sip your iced chai and give him some applause? Also, it's never so crowded that you can't find seating, which I love. I hate going into cafes and not being able to find any space, especially if I'm with someone (which I was on this recent trip... a "date," if you will... and he loved the place more than I would have thought!). I also love the free no-hassle wifi. The only thing that would keep from coming back often are the prices. They remind me of Starbucks, and seem unnecessarily inflated for a local coffee joint. I loved this place so much in high school that I ended up getting a job there for a few years. Everything is made fresh and the coffee is always delicious. Marc the newer boss as of the last 4 or 5 years is great and has a great staff of polite and talented baristas. They also have great flavored coffees that are actually brewed and not just flavor shots like most other coffee shops. There are always events, open mic nights, art shows and much, much more. I've been going here for about 7 years now and they are my favorite coffee shop in RI aside from the coffee exchange in Providence. read more
