I went here yesterday with my husband, parents, and aunt - we are all visiting my aunt from Michigan and she lives nearby the cafe, and had a gift card and wanted to treat us. Everything on the menu looked good. I ordered the Vermont burger, with candied bacon, and onion rings on the side, and it was delicious. My husband got a Philly steak Benedict, from the specials menu, and liked it. We also got a side of cornbread which was very good. My mom ordered the chicken and avocado sandwich, which was my second choice off the menu, but I'm glad I didn't order it, it wasn't quite as tasty as the burger IMO. When we left we struggled to move the tables, as my aunt has a walker, and I did feel like the staff should've helped us with that. Other than that, waitservice was fast and friendly. read more

Fantastic! A must stop! While spending the night at the Hampton Inn, we were told about Rachel's for coffee and breakfast. First look at the menu, you start drooling, so many great options. Since I was with my girlfriend (who has Alpha Gal and is allergic to red meat) I try not to eat red meat when we go out. They were happy to substitute the ham for avocado on my eggs Benedict. The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The hash browns for me were a little under seasoned. However next to the salt and pepper they had some hot sauce, a little addition of all three of those and the hash browns were great! They have many different coffee flavor options, service was great. While they were busy they let us know that, and apologized for the delays. We were not in a hurry and will be back again the next time we are in the area. read more

Rachel's Cafe is lovely - clean, neat, colorful with a multitude of seating choices. The menu is a large one with a lot of variety in addition to specials. Our server was in training so we were fortunate to have the two waitresses and they were both pleasant as well as informative. I ordered the the Maple Bacon Croissant but substituted the Everything Bagel for the croissant. It was good but would have been better if the bagel had been grilled as the croissant would have been according to the menu. It was also served with a very tiny fruit cup. My dining partner ordered the meat lover's omelet which was served with hash browns with very little taste. I did get to taste them and verified that. It was also felt that the omelet could have had more meat filling. We would return but would order different items. read more

I used to come here a LOT in its previous incarnation as Uptown Burger, and I do miss the fact that they were open for dinner. My understanding is that the owner decided change over to breakfast and lunch place, and reopened as Rachel's Cafe; and later, it was sold to another owner. There are some elements on the menu that still remain from the Uptown Burger days. So today, I came in for the first time in quite a while. I noticed two burgers that really caught my eye. So operating on fact that Kao's have four stomachs, I turned on my secret superpower: fatass mode. ........................aka, I ordered both of them. The two burgers that I got were the fig and onion (my absolute favorite, stretching back to the Uptown Burger days), and the Vermont maple. Okay, let's talk the Vermont maple first. This is a decently good, not-too-far-out-there flavor profile. It's more interesting than a plain burger, but it's not crazy. The maple flavor is there, but it doesn't overwhelm the burger. Mozzarella cheese also does well to dampen flavors. Overall, this is a really good burger for those who are either ready to branch out beyond a plain ol' burger or to try something more than yet another burger with a fried egg in it. The fig and onion.... oh boy, my love for this burger knows no bounds. This is a life-changing burger. (wait, what?) ... Okay, hear me out: bacon, caramelized onions, fig jam, gorgonzola cheese. Before this burger, I was actually pretty convinced that I disliked gorgonzola cheese. It's just a hard, somewhat crumbly, moldy, foot-smelling block of salt, right? All that changes when burger juices get soaked into that cheese. It softens the cheese, both literally physically and in flavor. Additionally, you have another huge contrasting flavor in the fig jam. This burger is a huge battle of sweet and savory with very robust flavors, and it was the first burger that I had that made me want to experiment with burger fixings the way that we do with pizza toppings. If you like robust flavors in your food, try this burger. Guarantee it's better than it sounds. Okay, now the sides. I got onion rings with one of my burgers, and fries with the other one. And I'm going to have to say... stick with the onion rings. The fries were, I think, 3/8" machine cut. And I don't know if it was just fried once or didn't do a cold water soak or oil was too low temperature, or a combination of them. The fries looked nice and brown, but they were soft. Like, I've had pan-fried home fries that were crispier. Not sure what's going on there. The onion rings, on the other hand, were nice and crispy, and just more satisfying. If you ever used to come here back in the Uptown Burger days, it still looks pretty much the same inside. The bar area is still where it used to be. I think the chairs at the bar area are still the same exact chairs, actually. The TVs are still where they were mounted before, too. They have an espresso machine there now, though. Didn't get a good look at which model, but it's a Nuova Simonelli (I also failed to notice which grinder they're using, unfortunately). read more

This is one of my husband's favorite spots for breakfast. My mother in law came with us and we all loved our food. The menu was extensive and they had lots of choices from bagel sandwiches, croissants, English muffins, omelettes, hash, etc. The waitress we had was very professional and polite for someone in her 20s. I loved my egg white omelette with veggies and chicken sausage. It came with a small serving of fresh fruit. My husband got the corned beef hash and he tought it was great, albeit a bit salty. The food was as expected as everyone else has posted, can't go wrong with the Vermont burger, nor the cornbread toast. I especially liked that they toasted it. The service was off. Came in and had our waitress point to where we could sit. The table next to us still had dishes left over from a previous customer (took a while before they were cleared). It's not a big place so you can see everyone in the place. In a nutshell, our waitress was unattentative-we waited for a good 10-15 minutes before I got up to call her attention to the fact we were ready to leave. Not sure if I'll come back. read more

The only brunch spot in the charming The Village at South County Commons plaza in South Kingstown, it just beckoned to my husband and I when we had an early morning appointment at the place. This was a Friday morning. Walked in to find the place to be bigger than it looks outside. It was busy; a good sign. We ordered the Hash Omelet and a Build-your-own Omelet, both with egg whites. The egg whites carry an additional charge as well as the choice of sourdough bread. They do allow substitution of hash browns or home fries with a fruit cup. The service was pleasant enough but there was really nothing outstanding there to make me go back on my next appointment in the area. Overall, this is a safe bet with a pleasant ambience. read more

We went on a rainy Friday morning , we (2) were seated within 2 minutes. 2 waitstaff , we had to wait to order drinks ,water and coffee . We re used to getting them when seated. We ordered 2 omelets , I had an English muffin , he had rye toast . ( she write down white and it wasn't toasted just butter).She dropped off our meals , never saw her again . Rachael's is one of Wakefield's Best Kept Secret ! From the minute we arrived it was love at first site. We received a warm welcome by the hostess/our waitress, who seated us at a wonderful table with parlor like comfortable chairs. Her smile made us feel right at home. I got what I know refer to as Rhode Island's Best Burger It had bacon, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, sauteed onions and Fig jam on it! Mmmm My 2nd choice was In House Made Fresh Corned Beef Hash. I couldn't resist, so I got it to go. I told the owner on my departure that I definitely will be back and that I would spread the word about his menu: Banana Split Waffles, Oreo Cookie Pancakes, Maple Walnut French Toast, Loaded Home Fries with onions & peppers covered in hollandaise sauce, Corned Beef Reuben Melt, Block Island Veggie wrap, Homemade Chili , Avocado Salad, just to mention a few. Sitting at the counter for breakfast on. Saturday morning. Not busy. No one else at the counter. We should have immediately been asked if we wanted coffee. We had to ask the girl for coffee. Had to ask for a spoon. Horrible service. Had to ask for a coffee refill. She was right there and never asked if we wanted a refill. I haven't eaten the food yet but it won't matter. Just left Rachel's in Wakefield - one of our worst breakfasts in years! Ordered corned beef hash with poached eggs. The food arrived and eggs were hard boiled. When server finally stopped by to inquire about our meals, I expressed my opinion of the hard boiled poached eggs and she said she'd have chef recook the eggs. 15 minutes later they arrived and they virtually inedible as they were translucent and runny - not cooked at all - revenge of the cook!? One other complaint - $1.50 up charge for rye bread which was pretty ordinary - pretty weird. Oh well. Attitude and food very disappointed. read more

This is fabulous eating establishment. Extremely well operated, gorgeous interior and the staff is incredibly professional and friendly. The food is off the charts great. I had the Portuguese sweet bread French toast with fresh strawberries. We loved that we could order REAL maple syrup! Every restaurant should have this option. The French toast was delicious and perfectly browned. My side of bacon was cooked perfectly - just the amount crispness. My husband had The Commons, 2 eggs fried over hard potatoes and multigrain toast. He also had a buttermilk pancake that was right up his alley! We are very appreciative of the service we received from Rickie, and the Owner/manager. Everyone seemed to work hard toward the end goal which was pleasing the customer. We ordered takeout from Rachel's website. We liked the Portuguese Benedict. We also got the Portuguese Scrambler which was supposed to come with some kind of toast or bread. I chose the cornbread because it literally said (Free) next to it and showed no additional charge. We received a phone call that said we would need to handle an additional charge when we arrived to pick up our food. We came in for the third Sunday in a row, but this will be our last. The breakfast is always excellent but today the service was 1 star, it stunk. We arrived and were seated promptly. Only a few tables were occupied. There were 4 young ladies serving but it took a long time and no one stopped by. They were all standing behind the counter talking and drinking. I finally stood up and asked one of them to wait on us. This lack of attention lasted all meal. At the end I asked for a bill and eventually received one. Again all 4 were standing around and I could not get anyone to ring me up. I approached the group and asked someone to ring me up. They said they could not and I would have to wait. I guess it takes a special skill to run a credit card. There are many other options in town where the help really try's to serve you and not ignore you. I will not return. read more

The food was delicious and even the cappuccino was good. I was pleased at the option of adding real maple syrup to my French toast, and my husband loved swapping his toast for cornbread. Very cute place but very short staffed... like VERY. About a 25 min wait for 2 people at 11am when there had to be about 5-10 tables open. It's Labor Day weekend so I get it. For food, I got a Belgian waffle (I was expecting a big one) and it was a bit small for the price (+$8) VERY GOOD though! I ordered a side of ham (it says 3 slices on the menu) but I got only 2, No biggie. My boyfriend got the meat lovers which he said was pretty good.. he wished the eggs and potatoes were a little more seasoned ...the potatoes were also cold and the toast was pretty burnt. This is my first review, I never really take the time to do this however this day I was furious with this place. I have gone here 3 times. All times the wait was extremely long. However there are short staffed I get it, I was willing to give it a few more tries. Today I sat down at the bar, waited for over 25 min only to see the people that sat on my right and left were ordering first. The response I got was that was not my waitress. I got up and left. There are 3 people walking around with no clue what they are doing. No communication, no ownership, nothing. I will never come to this place again. Absolutely awful read more

I'm not usually a reviewer or complainer, but left without an order being taken. Being short staffed is no longer an excuse for businesses and puts too much pressure on the workers they do have. We are paying more bc of inflation but being treated worse. Edit: would typically give a business a second try but as you can see the owner is counting minutes on her cameras rather than being in store to help her staff.
