Our party of 5 got seated right away at a very busy time of morning. It has a real "homey" atmosphere, the cafe is bright & clean. Staff were friendly and punctual and the food arrived in a timely manner. I ordered the meat lovers omelet which came with Homefries & toast. Delicious! This is a place where the locals go, so you know it's good! read more

Meldgie's Rivers Edge Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Wakefield, Rhode Island

My dining companion and I loved the food at this diner-style restaurant. We found the prices reasonable and they offered a number of options. I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict with my perfectly prepared extra crispy home fries. My friend ordered scrambled eggs, toast, home fries, bacon, sausage and a giant pancake for $12.75. There was so much food, she had to take the pancake home. Breakfast is served until closing at 2PM, another plus. Our server was efficient. read more

It's a nice cute place with truly old school diner vibes. Right down to the u shaped counter in the middle. Menu is really solid diner staples plus the huge board lets you know what the specials are. Good food. Good ambiance. Good service. Solid place to eat in my book. read more

Called ahead at 7:45am. No answer. Arrived at 7:58 and asked if they would let me do the before 8am special; they said not but it'd just be a bit more expensive. I came to afford breakfast and left hungry. I'd expect the town diner I go to regularly to have a little more empathy. read more

I've been here before but somehow never left a review. This is now our favorite Meldgie's after the Point Judith location closed. Went twice this week, ordered some of the same stuff both days and while they were both good they were cooked totally different. Best advice here is always get the specials. read more

Meldgie's Rivers Edge Cafe - Avocado-Tomato Jalapeño Bacon Benedict - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Wakefield, Rhode Island

Pretty decent breakfast at Meldgie's Diner in Wakefield. One of the better breakfast spots down near the beach. Old school, typical American style breakfast. I got their egg, cheese and sausage sandwich on a biscuit. ($5) I also got a chocolate chip pancake ($3.50). Unfortunately, the pancake was way too small - sucks because it was really good. However, this might of been the best biscuit ever!!! It was so buttery and airy at the same time. I almost ordered biscuits and gravy because of how good it was. A power move was pouring some syrup on top of the sandwich. Had the feels of a McDonald's McGriddle. My brother got the Mexican omelette ($9.50) which he said was good. It was a big portion with a large omelette and a bunch of homefries. Wouldn't mind going back to get more of those amazing biscuits. read more

Typical diner food, typical diner vibe. Recommend their egg sandwiches. Quick and friendly service.

Amazing staff and great food! Love the atmosphere! The food is fresh and not all greasy! VIN and KAT rule!

Sunday morning and crowded which. I'd expect for URI family weekend. Gave us 25 minute wait and it ended up being 50min. Waitress was attentive and the over service was very good. I'm the food was just very average. I had the brioche French toast which was just very average. Bacon Egg in biscuit was delicious. Daughter had the avocado toast that was not good, small, and unappealing. Overall...meh read more

Scrambled eggs soft, bacon and red potatoes home fries well done - all perfectly cooked! Loved the fact that everything is cooked to order, great vibe, service with a smile yet professional. Everyone hustles and pitches in as the team truly works together. Hats off to the chefs making it oh so special. Our favorite breakfast spot in south county!! read more

First time having breakfast at Meldgie's. Ordered one of the breakfast specials and was disappointed... egg , Brie and bacon on a pumpkin bagel ... sounded interesting and was excited to taste it . It was tasteless and not warm ... and the home fries were cold and hard. Not sure if I would return . Service was good, wait staff was friendly and attentive. read more

We were in RI for the weekend and decided to try this place. I have #5, eggs over w/ corned beef hash, home fries and toast. The food was great, the service prompt and friendly. Meldgie's is a great pick for breakfast (served all day btw), if you're near Wakefield, RI. read more

Best diner in the state! Located right off Main St. This place is a staple in the south county community. Best omelets, breakfast sandwiches and hash browns. They have great flavors for coffee. It is a must! read more

We love Meldgie's - mostly for the wonderful staff - they're like family & friends. We regulars get our drinks handed to us without asking - and the breakfasts range from the "normal" to some cool specials. Lunch has the traditional "diner fare" with again, some nice specials. Come in, be friendly and you'll be treated as well as anywhere in the world- with reasonable prices. read more

Very good food, consistently. Very clean with great service. I highly recommend Meldgies. Breakfast all day.

Excellent service great breakfast food. Great for out of town visitors. Easy to find plenty of parking.prices are great.

Great charming little spot for breakfast. My party and I went camping and it was nice to stumble upon this small town diner. They had great service and an excellent variety of breakfast options. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals. Highly recommend! read more

Great breakfast! Although small the service was efficient and the food was spectacular.

We just love going to breakfast at Meldgies. The food is good, it's hot and not greasy, the coffee is decent and it's inexpensive. They also have unusual things (like Turkey bacon) and good muffins. My partner absolutely loves their home fries. The service is quick too. We like this location the best (have been to all three) -- good booths and most open feeling. Anyway, a good solid breakfast for a good price. read more

"I know you can be OVERwhelmed, and you can be UNDERwhelmed, but can you ever be just whelmed?" "I think you can in Europe." This place was so underwhelming, and so lackluster. The food was slow to come out, the service was friendly (but slow), and it was loud and crowded. I think we were also unfortunate enough to be sat directly next to the bathroom...not as much fun as you'd think. The food itself was cold, salty, and sort of half-thrown together. And, not to be a stickler, but the specialty menu had a lot of spelling and grammar errors, so much so that it was misleading as to what was being offered. The toast wasn't toasted, the eggs were rubbery, and the omelette barely had any fillings. Overall, we went here because it was Dad's Choice, but if it'd been anyone else's decision, we'd have gone elsewhere. read more

Living down South, I forget how great Northern diners are. On a recent vacation to Rhode Island we stopped by Meldgie's for some breakfast, and I was reminded how much I like diner fare up in New England. Even though it was a busy Sunday morning, we were seated in a timely manner. The food was very good, affordable, and plentiful. Service was great. If you have a hankering for some comfort eats, stop by Meldgie's! read more

I have always enjoyed Meldgies Breakfast which is served all day. Not greasy and not only is the food clean but the restaurant is too. I've only had their breakfast, never tried lunch. I tend to think it must be fantastic as well. read more

This diner is tucked away off the street, which we hadn't noticed initially. To our pleasant surprise we found our new favorite breakfast place by the beach! We give it 4 stars for food and 5 stars because our waitress was fabulous. I believe her name was Dee- she was cheerful, efficient and made our experience better. Everyone was happy with their food- home fries are key and they were delicious. I had the farmers egg/turkey sausage sandwich on a biscuit that was great! read more

Definitely a great breakfast or lunch!! Have breakfast here all the time and am never disappointed. The biscuits and gravy excellent choice.

My parents have had a beach house in Narragansett for over 20 years and considering our love for breakfast and brunch and my mother's love of classic diners I don't know how we missed Meldgie's. Picture that idealized small-town diner you've seen in movies and TV, your here. The staff is courteous and attentive, the food is excellent, one King Meldie breakfast club was enough to fill 2 hungry your men. Crazy Burger used to be our go-to breakfast place but the service and quality have dipped while the $$$ have gone up. All hail King Meldgie, thou has vanquished Phil's, Bluebird, CB, and Old Mountian Lanes read more

The "market" part is LONG gone The "original"owner was the best ever Then there was a 2nd owner, who in my opinion sucked big donkey balls And now there is a 3rd owner, and we have Meldgie's Rivers Edge Cafe..... Good food! Good prices! Staff that ROCKS! For example, like, you don't have to ask for more coffee, they know the "regulars", and its BYOB! Home made, home cooked from scratch kinda place! The Grapenut pudding is NOT to be missed! Breakfast & Lunch before 2 pm They just started doing Friday Night dinners again, went this past Friday as part of my "date night" with the boy :) I had Fish & Chips...well, you actually get to pick your 2 sides..so it doesn't HAVE to be fries & cole slaw. I love cole slaw...like A LOT! So I had to get that :) and a baked potato. I was surprised by the size of the 2 fresh pieces that were laid in front of me...nice piece of lemon, plenty of Tah-tah sauce. The boy got kids pasta....perfect sized portion. Rolls & 2 drinks, the bill was $16...I am not even kidding! Go, yes...now! NOTE: Sweenys Package Store shares the same parking lot, grab some beers & go get some good food! read more

While visiting friends in Tuckertown this weekend, we went out for breakfast. We ended up at the River's Edge Cafe. It was about 9:30 on a Sunday morning, there were plenty of seats, and we picked our own booth. The wait staff was very prompt in coming to get our drink order while we looked at the menu. It has the usual American breakfast fare, eggs, omelets, pancakes, french toast, etc. There were also many specials available. I ordered 2 eggs scrambled, well done, home fries, and cranberry walnut toast. My husband got an egg white omelet with onions and peppers. Our friends got biscuits and gravy and the special Chirico and cheese eggbeater omelet. Within minutes of ordering, our food arrived. My eggs were OK, although not as well done as I'd have liked. The home fries were OK too, not crispy, but seasoned pleasantly. The cranberry and walnut toast was the highlight of my meal. Which is why only 2 stars. However, according to the guys, the omelets were very good. Next time I'll have to try one of those instead. And if it's as good as they say, I'll up my rating. read more

I just love this place. The staff is always friendly. Wait time on getting your order is dependent on how busy, but I think it's appropriate. Their Johnny cakes are bomb. We only recently became aware that Meldgies Rivers Edge Cafe (the latest incarnation of this location) serves dinner on Friday nights, so we thought we'd give it a try. The menu isn't posted anywhere online, so we called, and the cheerful person who answered patiently listed the dinner options, about a dozen or so. We ordered the Fish and Chips, the battered version as opposed to the also-offered breaded version, with baked potato instead of fries, and cole slaw. We both got the large, which means 3 pieces of fish (the regular has 2). We got it to go. Two orders cost $23.00, pretty steep for Fish and Chips in these parts. So we open the containers and there are 3 huge pieces of fish, the typical baked-hours-ago-and-then-steamed-in-foil baked potato, plain with no butter or anything, and a smallish container of very average cole slaw. Well, as it turns out, there are actually 3 rather puny pieces of fish, surrounded by huge amounts of batter, so thickly applied that, while the outside is crisp and golden, the area between the fish and the crisp part is about 1 inch's worth of undercooked, almost raw batter, which is totally inedible. This is not exaggeration. If we'd eaten there, we would have sent it back, but we weren't there. So we peeled off most of the batter and ate the fish. We are locals, and in this area of limited restaurant choices, we really wanted to like Meldgies. But frankly, there are far better choices for the money we spent tonight. We will probably give them one more try. But we would heartily recommend avoiding the battered fish and chips. Our rating would have been 1 star for the food alone, but the service was friendly and fast. read more
