South County Bread Company is a family-owned bakery in Wakefield, Rhode Island, known for its sourdough-based breads, croissants, and pastries, made with fresh, in-house milled grains. They are committed to using healthy ingredients. The Morning Buns from this bakery were highly recommended by a local. They did not disappoint. Order included; **Morning Buns - their rendition of a cinnamon bun. "The bakers work this croissant dough for several days, folding in cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, and love. Guaranteed to be one of the best pastries you've ever tasted." The buttery layers melted in my mouth. The cinnamon was fragrant and did not dominate the flavor of the sweet pastry. I understand why they are the most popular item on the pastry menu. **Almond Danish -- My favorite in a close competition after a sampling. The almond paste gave them a pronounced nut flavor as well as a slightly chewy bite. **Monkey Bread pastry -- although fresh tasting, it was a little dry and only mildly flavorful. It was my least favorite. **Chocolate Chip Cookies -- crunchy at edges with a little chew and a pleasant aftertaste of butter. Excellent! As a novice baker of Sourdough Breads, I was pleased to learn that the Bakery has a Sourdough focus using sourdough starter for most products including the croissants believing it's healthier and easier to digest. Amazing! Wish I lived closer. The bread selection was impressive and included Sourdough. Sliced upon request, they are popular and often sold out. I was advised to get there early. read more

Rhode Island, Wakefield: "We start with sourdough, we finish with love" tag line on their website clearly shines through at this family owned bakery! What a gem!! Amazing coffee and baked goods served by genuinely amazing people. An excellent experience... no surprise to overhear them chatting away with their "regulars" who seemed to be there (I laughed when I overheard someone ordering something different than their "usual order"). Charming interior, with space to eat on site. Over two visits in 2 days, I had their morning bun (OMG), spinach feta croissant and pain au chocolate... cannot wait to go back on my next trip to RI (or better yet, please open in NYC ). I think everything was $5.85/each. read more

I'm so happy I finally got to try south county bread!!!!! Definitely lives up to the hype. I went with a friend and we went mid morning to avoid the line. We shared the salty brine focaccia, morning bun, almond croissant, and monkey bread. The focaccia was quite possibly the best thing I have ever eaten. Everything was just as delicious. I also had the hibiscus lavender iced tea and they asked if I wanted the house made lemon syrup - yum!!!! I can't wait to come back and try more things. read more

Stopped by to pick up pastries while having friends over for coffee, and I'm so glad I did. I tried the Pain au Chocolat and the Morning Bun, and both were absolutely delicious--easily some of the best I've had. The pastries are made with excellent quality ingredients and are worth every penny. They're not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. read more

We had yet another amazing experience at South County Bread Company. We picked up morning buns, traditional croissants, sour dough bread and brioche buns. Everything was fantastic. Baked to perfection. The line was long, but moved quite quickly. The staff were incredibly friendly and moved everything alone like a well oiled machine. There are local products on the shelves. The coffee is fantastic. There is a seating area in the window and some outside if you're will to brave the cold. read more

You know you are going to have a good day if you started it off at South County Bread Company. There is always something new to try. I had the white chocolate cranberry scone and it was fantastic. Iced coffee is always my go to. I am glad they took some time off after the holidays, but I really missed them. Glad they are back in full force! read more

South County Bread is an important addition to downtown Wakefield. It adds to the whole street's charm of having an option to walk in and smell, delicious and hot baked goods coming straight from the oven. I went in on a Sunday to grab some items for breakfast and was welcomed by the friendly staff and the wife array of sweet and savory croissants, pain au chocolate and various danishes. The danishes were crispy on the outside and doughy interior. The croissants were decent, but missed the ideal of a light, flaky and crispy texture that melts in your mouth with the butter flavoring. read more

Our local friend recommended this bakery to us, and I was impressed! I loved my pastries so much that I came back the next day during my weekend trip. The ham & swiss croissant was a delicious savory start to our haul. I'm not usually a ham girly but this ham was GOOD - a nice, thick cut that didn't fall out of the pastry with each bite. The chocolate croissant had THREE whole strips of chocolate, I feel like most places usually do two. What's so special about their croissants is that they also incorporate the sourdough starter, so there's a good mix of tang and sweet in each bite. The morning bun was *chef's kiss*. Not too sweet, a must get! They also offer coffee to go with your baked goods, as well as a variety of whole loaves of bread, which I'll have to come back to try. There is usually a line but it moves quickly. Parking was only street parking but it wasn't hard to find a spot. Lovely people running a lovely spot! read more

Cute and busy bakery. The monkey bread and pistachio croissant were delicious. Space to sit inside and some smaller tables outside as well. A little over-priced as my three items came to $22. read more

I love South County Bread. Everything is delicious. We love their fresh made bread. We also love their ham and cheese croissants and the pain du chocolate (chocolate croissants). They also have great coffee and also feature some local items in the store as well. There can be a line at times since it is so good but it goes fast. They have some nice seating inside where you can look out at our wonderful Main Street or you can take yummy treats behind building and eat by the water. There is street parking and some free lot for parking behind the building. They also have great pies around the holidays to order. It has been a great addition to our Main Street. read more

If you love bread then you will love South County Bread Company. I had the honor of trying the sourdough and the Italian loaf and my goodness, I would gladly eat a whole loaf in one sitting with no shame. Their pastries were also great. The morning bun was SO GOOD. But since I'm so serious about bread, I can't wait to venture back and try some other loaves they have. Bonus side note, they have coffee offerings so you can caffeinate while carb loading, is there a better way to spend your day? read more

Everything is so dang good! Owners are often on site and very personable. Love the ham & cheese pastries and the vibe!

i took a 1.5 hour ripta from providence to this bakery do you UNDERSTAND?! it's unmatched deliciousness. that sourdough croissant kills me. i got it at the hope st farmers market two summers ago and became a stan. i got the spinach and feta one for breakfast. then i got the olive sourdough loaf and lowkey ate half of it before making it back to prov. then got the sandwich sourdough loaf to freeze and enjoy until hope st farmers market szn returns. the bakers behind the counter matched my excitement and were so enthusiastic about slicing my loaves. love the rustic vibe inside and the extra goodies they sell on the wall. will need to return for their hand churned butter and bring a cooler. ugh so yummy. read more

Blown away by this beautiful bakery and their DELICIOUS pastries! This spot gets busy but the line moves quickly. They have a wide array of baked goods. We opted for the pistachio croissant and a morning bun. The morning bun was addictive - it tasted like a cross of a croissant and a cinnamon roll. The pistachio croissant was the most gourmet and delicious croissant I've ever had in this state. I can see why people come clamoring for these pastries every day! read more

I specifically planned to go to Wakefield on outer vacation week on a day this bakery was open because I've been wanting to try. It did not disappoint. In fact, we ended up stopping back the next day as well. We tried the morning buns which are perfection. So flaky and not overly sweet but still in the realm of a cinnamon roll. I also tried the chocolate croissant (pan chocolate) and my mom tried the raspberry danish. Both were far better than the majority of bakeries we've tried. The spot is adorable and also has good cover and tea. The loaves of bread looked incredible! If I lived nearby, I'd have gotten the loaf of grilled cheese bread. Great friendly service, a local gem! read more

Incredible! First, the service is too notch. Second, the focaccia. OMG. Best I've ever had. Third, the butter. Reason enough to make the 40 minute drive. read more

I just love it here! Rotating cheese danish flavors, sourdough loafs, fresh ground coffee, my favorite kombuchas, specialty cheeses, local vendor goods, and more. Small town goodness that really warms the heart and fills the belly. Chatting with people in line for Thanksgiving talking about SoCoBCo pies, using their bread to make stuffing, grabbing a morning bun to gear up for the holiday- this is the stuff hallmark movies are made of. Indoor and outdoor tables and GREAT coffee with no extra charge for non dairy milks and lavender flavor. Swoon. read more

Great staff, great bakery. The ham & cheese croussants are delicious & recommend. Coffee ok but go for baked goods

I couldn't wait to write how incredible the housemade lemon curd in the fruit danish I got was. This was the best lemon curd I've ever had in my entire life. WOW! Huge selection of breads and breakfast pastries, a few different kinds of daily danishes, pizza doughs, jams, and coffee beans. Everything looked amazing, it was hard to choose just one thing for myself! (Boyfriend got a sourdough baguette that was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, GREAT flavor.) Woman behind the counter was so friendly, we chatted with her a little bit and she gave us a sample of one of their morning buns, so yummy. Will be back for sure! read more

Walked by a few weeks ago, looking for a quick sandwich. Unfortunately most shops are closed on Mondays, including SoCo Bread Co. But, seeing people inside, I stopped to read the front door menu. They waved me in, nice young couple, turned out to be the owners Keri Lyn and her husband Jeff, said they were working to just clean up but would happily make me a sandwich with what they had. Ended up with a fantastic chicken salad on amazing sourdough bread. Wiped down a table for me, brought out the sandwich, and a cookie (free) on the side. Super nice of them to go out of their way, and amazing lunch as well. Encourage everyone to stop in and say hello, even just for the aroma of fresh baked bread. read more

A simply outstanding little bakery in the center of charming Wakefield! Excellent breads and terrific pastries, ditto for the jams, olives, and coffee beans that are also available. But for me, it's mostly the pastries - I had a most tasty and satisfying ham & swiss cheese croissant; and one of the best cheese danishes I've ever had. (Look up cheese danish on Wikipedia, and SCBC's version should be pictured there!) We also got a jar each of the mango jam and lemon marmalade - perfect accompaniments to their bread, sliced and toasted. Definitely a must-try when in town! read more

It is really great and the staff is super friendly and warm. I would definitely suggest if you are in the area

Cute and cozy place. I didn't try their coffee. I paid $19 for two chocolate croissants, a scone and a breakfast danish. They do not heat up the pastries for you if you ask. So if you're looking to get a hot breakfast on the go, the only hot you'll get is the coffee. read more

We had two flavored iced coffees and a variety of pastries. We showed up around noon on a Saturday and they still had a lot of baked options available and the line was only around 10 minutes. First of all the pastry and the scones in particular are excellent, the croissants less so but still very good. The bread is why you come here and there is always something interesting however be aware that the starter used in all the breads is a sourdough and if you are not partial to that flavor, keep that in mind. Go there in the morning and treat yourself to the simple pleasure of eating a hot baguette on the ride home. Great staff. read more

An absolute treasure. They bake some of the better breads I've had the pleasure of eating. I love the bread and croissants here! What luck to have such a great bakery in a small town like Wakefield. The only I didn't care for was the apple pie I got for Thanksgiving. The crust was a bit burnt and therefore too crunchy instead of flaky. read more
