You pay a flat rate for the food where it is a buffet style and you get the option to choose from a full breakfast (hot meal). Our waitress was so nice and was great about checking in on our dining experience. We definitely ate our money's worth! We started off at the pastry bar, I enjoyed the guava and cheese danishes & a mini chocolate croissant. Their spinach and cheese danish was also so tasty!! Then made our way through the charcuterie bar where there was an assortment of fine cheeses and meats, as well as the option for a fruit parfait which my friend really enjoyed. Finally, our favorite part of the buffet was the raw bar (which we could not stay away from). The oysters and clams were so fresh and cleaned exceptionally well- their mignonette was one of the best that I've had! The last 'course' of brunch was a dessert tower!!! Sift Bake Shop is one of the highlights when coming to downtown Mystic. It's easy to find off of the main road with street or lot parking nearby. Nice looking bake shop with all kinds of sweet and savory items to choose from. They also offer a good amount of coffee or tea drinks too. It was tough to choose but we decided to have a pastry and a coffee to dine in and take a few items back to try later. We got the Pecan Sticky Bun to try inside and take home the Apple Turnover and a classic Chocolate Chip Cookie. The pecan sticky bun was delicious, good sized and perfect to share. Would get this again when back. Next day we had the Apple Turnover and choco chip cookie, both were equally delicious and nicely made. You can tell they make the classic pastries well! Staff was really nice, they are detailed if you want items warmed up, dine in for some or take some items home. They will pack all that up for you. If I recall correctly, prices seem to be what I thought it would be. Dining area is good sized, we came in when it was busy so we didn't sit in the main area, but we did find plenty of room in their heated patio area. We ordered 4 chocolate croissants, 2 lemon scones, 2 chicken salad croissants, 2 yogurt parfait, 1 milk chocolate hazelnut, and 4 macarons (1 yuzu, 1 pistachio, 2 of the pink/purple one for the kids). The lemon scones were hard on the outside and soft on the inside, my whole family loved it. The chocolate croissants were good but not as good as the lemon scones. The chicken salad croissant was served on an everything croissant and OMG that is some delicious croissant. My wife and I regret not buying a ton of everything croissants and freezing them for future meals, which is something we will definitely do in the future. The yogurt parfait was creamy, thick, and filling. Although it was good, I dont know if I would order that again as we couldnt finish it. The milk chocolate hazelnut was so pretty that I didn't want to eat it. We finally did, and my kids and I loved it. My wife thought it was too sweet. Lastly the macarons, my wife ate the yuzu and said it was the perfect balance. She said it was not too sweet and would order it again when we return to Sift Bake Shop. I had the pistachio which I thought tasted artificial and too sweet. My kids ordered the macaron that is purple on one side and pink on the other and they both loved their macaron. Came here after a run on a Sunday. Parking was easy downtown in the morning. Was able to get a seat after ordering. Very cute inside with the pastries out on display. Everything looks delicious it is hard to choose. i decided to get a hot chocolate, a savory spinach and artichoke croissant and a sweet white chocolate peppermint croissant. I enjoyed everything. They heated up the spinach and artichoke croissant and it was really good. I liked the cheese. The sweet croissant was also good but it had a little too much filling inside. Cute as hell on the inside. And the server was so nice, and informative. I even said, "Are you one of the founders?" (ha) she replied, "no!" (very politely). She told me that the "Opera Cake" was an award-winning dessert of theirs. So of course, I got it. It is their take on Tiramisu. And while I enjoyed it, I thought, "Hm, this isn't like crazy unique." The last few times I've gone I have felt a little disappointed... The pastries are mostly always great... however, the word has gotten out about Sift and you can expect to wait in a long line nearly every time you visit. I was initially pleasantly surprised upon arrival around 9 AM today that the line did not go out of the door. However, as short as it was, it did seem to take quite a while for the few people ahead of us to be helped and I'm not sure why. They have recently changed their policy about being able to place online orders or call in orders which also is a bummer. To further clarify, they don't accept orders ahead any longer even though you would pay for them at the time of the order. It was nice to not have to wait in the line if you placed your order ahead an hour (since the bakery is 45 minutes away from my home) and not worry that the item(s) you want still being available upon arrival and then having to waiting in line for sometimes a half an hour to 45 minutes to place an order for 1-3 items. I asked about the policy and did not receive any response which also felt a little frustrating. I digress. One of the signature danishes that we have always loved is the guava cheese. They recently changed their formulation and IMHO, not for the better. I have not ordered it in my last few visits, though that was a standby for every previous visit. Today I tried the pistachio croissant and was not happy with it, either. I have always loved Sift: the atmosphere, the delicious baked goods and the attentive staff. But things seem to have taken a turn in the last few months. It doesn't necessarily feel worth waiting in line to me, and I have felt disappointed with several of the items ordered recently. I also feel like there has not been the same friendliness extended -- maybe today more so and continue to be turned off by the request for a tip at the end, (which I do) but it feels forced after spending too much on pastries, especially when it is slow and doesn't feel friendly. read more

The moment I arrived, there was a decent line out the door. At first, I was hesitant about lining up, but I caved in to my curiosity. I opted for take-out as there were a lot of people. The store is decently sized and had both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Ham & Cheese Croissant, Chocolate Walnut Sea Salt Cookie, the 4-Way Brownie, and a Hot Vanilla Latte. The line moved pretty fast. They had multiple workers helping to take people's order by the pastry display cases. Since I had ordered a drink, they had me pay at the register at the end instead. The 4-Way Brownie was probably my least favorite, but my boyfriend liked it a lot. It was VERY chocolate-y and moist. I enjoyed the Ham & Cheese Croissant, but I wish it was warmed up. The Chocolate Walnut Sea Salt Cookie was on the sweeter side, but I immensely enjoyed it. I wish there were more walnuts present in the cookie. I loved how the sides were crispy and chewy, but the middle is soft and dough-y. The latte was not too sweet, but the vanilla flavor was not too prominent. The coffee tasted smooth and it was not too bad. After having these pastries as a morning snack, I stopped by for even more to bring back home. This time, I ordered the Vegetable Croissant and Oatmeal Blueberry Cookie. The Vegetable Croissant was alright. It was generously stuffed with filling, but I think I prefer the Ham & Cheese Croissant. The Oatmeal Blueberry Cookie was amazing! There were large chunks of blueberries present throughout the cookie and the chewy texture of the cookie was further enhanced by the oatmeal. (Had a nice rich darker green color, not overly sweet, no yellow undertone). I really enjoyed it! As for pastries, I decided to get the Key Like croissant. If you are a huge fan of the dessert, you are definitely going to enjoy this. The croissant itself is buttery and flaky, with a core that is stuffed with creamy key lime filling. It was a little too much for me, but that's simply because I'm not the biggest key lime fan (I shared this with my partner who enjoyed it very much!). Can't believe this place comes up as "vegan friendly". Tried two of their locations but sadly they have the same 2 crappy cookies (ginger molasses and choc chip) at both locations. Seating is limited both inside & out, so best to plan on take-out if no tables are available. The bakery is bright and full of life. People far and wide give Sift a great recommendation. Sift Bake Shop is a phenomenal spot for grab and go breakfast. We recently visited the area and went two out of three days. They have a wide range of delicious pastries, a full counter of macarons and some breakfast sandwiches. They also have a full service coffee bar. In addition, you can buy different bread varieties by the half or full loaf. Between the two visits, we tried so many different things it felt like we sampled half of the store -- dulce croissant, hazelnut praline croissant, chocolate croissant, ham & cheese croissant, ebbieoche, blueberry muffin, ham quiche, chive egg frittata sandwich, carrot cake roulade, salted caramel macaron, caramel apple macaron. They package it all up immaculately and lavish-looking. The only slight downside is there's not a whole lot of seating in the bakery -- maybe three small high-top circular tables and a few seats at a random corner bar top. There is some patio seating for when the weather is nice. Aside from the Mystic location, Sift has bake shops in Niantic, Mohegan Sun and Watch Hill. I probably had the best croissant I've had in a long time here. So can definitely recommend the croissants! My partner ordered a Danish tart which was also delicious. I was told that there can be lines here so be warned and time appropriately! We happened to stop by here late morning on a Monday and it wasn't busy at all.
