This is my favorite coffee shop/bakery. The food and coffee are fantastic. The scones are perfection and we haven't had a bad one yet. The coffee is amazing. The best part is the staff. They could not be nicer or more welcoming. There is room to sit and enjoy your food. read more

We recently hosted a baby shower and ordered a sheet cake from Sweet Althea's. The cake was delicious and the decorations of Teddy bears and writing were perfect. The frosting was a nice, thick buttercream without being overly sugary. Everyone raved over it! Ordering and pick up were easy and on time, with a great price for a large freshly made cake! Thank you!! read more

Friendly & helpful service. good coffee was fresh tasting even in the afternoon. Ambience is very nice too. No public restroom.

We ordered our granddaughter's baptism cake and Kim did an amazing job! She's personable, talented and accessible in person, phone and email. The cake itself was so beautiful with the tastiest cake and over the top outstanding buttercream frosting. The bakery is comfortable and inviting with a large variety of delicious scones, muffins, cookies, danish. The coffee and tea menu is extensive too. We highly recommend Sweet Althea's and look forward to visiting soon! read more

I wanted to share some feedback about my first visit to the bakery yesterday. I recently moved to the area and had been looking forward to stopping by. When I walked in, I was briefly on the phone with my mom, who was updating me about my stepdad's chemo treatment. I had already told her I was walking into a shop and wouldn't be able to talk, but there was no sign about phone use, and I was the only customer inside. An employee named Cal approached, saw I was on the phone, and told me she'd wait until I was off. I let her know it was okay to take my order, but she walked away. When she came back, she repeated she'd wait, even though I was ready. The tone felt unnecessarily cold. Later, when I asked for a blueberry scone, she curtly corrected me that it was "blueberry rhubarb." Even my mom, still on the line, picked up on the attitude. It wasn't the experience I hoped for, especially after a long morning. I wanted to support a local spot, but the interaction left me feeling unwelcome. read more

This bakery is amazing!! When a different bakery that we had ordered cake pops from for my daughter's birthday party called the day before the party to say they couldn't do it, Sweet Althea's came to the rescue!! At the last minute they were able to make us 25 perfect pink cake pops. Will forever be grateful! read more

We ordered a cake on Wednesday (which we appreciated for a pick up on saturday). We got a call Saturday morning that they had dropped the cake. They told us "I have a cake I can frost". We thought I guess it's better than nothing. It was not the flavor we wanted but thought whatever, it's something. It was so horrible looking. The cake looked like chocolate but tasted like nothing with a hint of coffee, which was NOT a desired flavor. The buttercream was disgusting. Flavorless, gritty texture with 2 different shades of creamy yellow. They gave us $5 off a $45 6-inch cake that they dropped. We should have gone to Shaws. read more

I am so thrilled I found Sweet Althea's Bakery for my son's graduation party. With the assistance of Kim (who helped me when I called) I ordered a Tuxedo Cake. This cake consisted of a layer of vanilla, a layer of chocolate ganache and another layer of vanilla. The frosting was a delicious classic buttercream. I was told by my guests that it was "the best cake they have ever eaten". Great Success! Sweet Althea's is located at 542 Kingstown Rd, Wakefield, Rhode Island. 401-932-9473 read more

I've never written a review before but I just have to write one for Sweet Althea's because they are actually the sweetest. Yesterday morning I got a coffee and a very yummy blueberry muffin and ate it outside before driving home. Little did I know that I forgot my entire bag with my wallet, sentimental things etc etc. Around 3 pm there's a knock on my door and it was who I think is the owner who drove all the way to my house to return my bag! So sweet, I'm so thankful. Go patron this cute little bakery full of great people! read more

As a baker I seek out genuine bakeries hopeful they will have hyper-delicious baked goods with genuine ingredients. Score 100% here. Scones, muffins, cupcakes, carrot and pound cake, cookies and bagels. Cakes to order. Just icing on the cake (!) that the women here are awesomely nice and cool. And Althea is not the owner's name! Bear cookies, relix mags, and some bears abound, including a Dead bear-shaped cookie! Cozy, friendly and clean. Oh and Dave's coffee AND they add the cream for you and don't make you go to one of those cheezy McDonald's-type condiment stand. 6 stars all the way!! read more

great coffee and scones and I love the grateful dead decor/music when i go in nice way to start the day

I was given one of their Valentines cupcakes. The chocolate swirl on top was incredible, not sweet but like a wonderful chocolate mixture. The cupcake was perfect, not too like but a perfect density when you bite into it. Keep doing what you do. read more

After much consideration of the bakeries nearby our wedding venue, we scheduled 1 tasting a few weeks prior. All we knew was that we wanted a buttercake instead of fondant, since we prefer a delicious cake over a good looking one. Once we tried the signature flavor Kim recommended, it was a done deal. Didn't need to do any other tastings. Kim was very easy to communicate with via email & phone, she knew what we wanted and delivered beautifully. We needed a small cake for our intimate wedding (less than 30ppl). While looking through the books she had we loved this simple looking cake that was actually 2 or 3 tiers. I left the top decor to her since I wasn't sure whether I'd use the top I had prepared. Kim's touch with the branches on top looked perfect to match our simple and cute cake. They also had it delivered on time, as promised. The price was great, flavors amazing - we couldn't have been happier. It's been 6 months and we STILL get comliments and get asked where we got the amazing cake! read more

Wonderful staff is super friendly and more then ready to help you choose one or more special treats! This place is rather hidden but should be on a travel guide of places to definitely check out! I'm sorry to report that the cakes may or may not be good, but they have issues running this business. I ordered a cake for this Sunday,6/13, and they put it in for the following Sunday. I'm left without a cake, and a "I'm sorry, can't help you, we are busy today. " In addition to this, I sent emails asking for the cake with the exact date I needed it. I was going to try this out for a wedding in August, but absolutely never! Poor business model, not sure how people make money running these operations. read more

I was not particularly impressed. The biscotti cookie was good on the half that had been dipped in chocolate but the other half had no flavor so I threw the rest of it in the trash. I didn't care much for the flavor of the pumpkin pound cake though it had a lot of nuts and seeds in it, which was good. The side that had been exposed to the air was a little stale, which kind of spoiled it, one nice soft side and one stale side. The lady who waited on me was very nice and they are in a small mall so parking is easy. The next time I'm in South Kingstown I think I will skip Althea's. Maybe they make great custom cakes but I'll never know. read more

I do not recommend at all. My daughter's birthday party is today, 12/30, at 5pm. I ordered a paw patrol themed cake on 12/3 to be ready by noon on 12/30. Kim and I were in contact since September of this year since we were coming from Florida. Kim ensured me everything would be all set. When my daughter's father went to pick up the cake, it was not there. They said they gave our cake to someone who ordered a pie this morning and they were already in Boston with our daughter's birthday cake. They told us they couldn't make another cake and they could offer us a cheesecake or a cookie.....for my daughters 4th birthday party dessert. Absolutely ridiculous! They didn't offer another cake option for us either. Just said, "no sorry, there's nothing we can do for you"...after they messed up. I am not happy to say the least and will not be putting my trust in this bakery for future orders. You have ruined my daughter's party and now we have to scramble to find a cake. I really trusted in the reviews for this order and it turned out to be absolutely awful. read more

Sweet Althea's is incredible! I ordered a birthday cake for a friend of mine turning 30 and Kim was so great to work with. 1. The cake itself was beautiful and no joke, the best funfetti cake I have ever had. Everyone raved about it at the party asking where it was from! 2. Kim is a wonderful business owner. I was not going to be able to pick up the cake on time before closing of the store and she drove the cake to the birthday venue and worked with the venue to keep it chilled for the couple hours prior to us arriving. Highly recommend Kim and Sweet Althea's! read more

I ordered a cake here based on a glowing recommendation from my mother who tasted one of sweet Althea's cakes at a baby shower. I had never heard of the bakery before, but when I called they were SO nice and thorough and even called me a few days before the event to confirm all of the details. We live more than an hour away but the bakery was willing to meet us half way for delivery. The cake was absolutely delicious and has the distinction of being one of the best cakes I've ever tasted! The butter cream frosting was actually made from butter and sugar- not crisco or shortening. Very, very pleased. read more

I like their scones and coffee, but the woman behind the counter is soooo loud. We had to stop talking every-time she spoke. Also they do not serve butter for their scones which is ok for takeout, not so good if eating there. The new place is pretty and I would go again if not for the shouting server. read more

I really hate writing negative reviews for places, I downloaded Yelp to be positive and spread relevant information to consumers who are thinking about using a new place. However, I feel that this incredibly relevant information and hopefully no one else will be blindsided the way that I was. It was a long story but here is the summary: I called to inquire if they could do a custom order, they convinced me that they could fulfill a custom order no problem! I gave them three weeks notice, called a few times to confirm and then two days before my event they told me that they didn't have time to make my custom order, given all their other orders that week. I gave THREE WEEKS NOTICE! I was left completely in the lurch so DO NOT make my mistake. I though I had placed a true order, and was completely screwed. read more

When I went to Sweet Althea's and tasted Kim's butter cream, I knew she had to make my wedding cake. I wanted to make sure we had a good cake and not a standard, boring wedding cake. We ended up choosing her Oreo flavor with the white butter cream, and it was delicious. The cake looked beautiful with the navy ribbon on each tier and small silver star decorations to go with my star theme.
