Piece of white cake with buttercream frosting is out
    Martha H.

We ordered our granddaughter's baptism cake and Kim did an amazing job! She's personable, talented and accessible in person, phone and email. The cake itself was so beautiful with the tastiest cake and over the top outstanding buttercream frosting. The bakery is comfortable and inviting with a large variety of delicious scones, muffins, cookies, danish. The coffee and tea menu is extensive too. We highly recommend Sweet Althea's and look forward to visiting soon!

A super sweet lady made these cupcakes for me this morning and added the cute decoration. Everyone was so kind inside and they were stocked up on all sorts of yummy pastries that looked absolutely delicious! I had a good iced coffee and can't wait to go back and try the scones!

Amazing coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Love sitting in for breakfast. Quick service.

Delicious Graduation Cake by Sweet Althea's
    Mary M.

I am so thrilled I found Sweet Althea's Bakery for my son's graduation party. With the assistance of Kim (who helped me when I called) I ordered a Tuxedo Cake. This cake consisted of a layer of vanilla, a layer of chocolate ganache and another layer of vanilla. The frosting was a delicious classic buttercream. I was told by my guests that it was "the best cake they have ever eaten". Great Success! Sweet Althea's is located at 542 Kingstown Rd, Wakefield, Rhode Island. 401-932-9473

Our beautiful wedding cake (for our mini, 11-person ceremony). Decorated just like we had asked. Lovely!

THE MOST DELICIOUS CAKE EVER!!! Sweet Althea's made our mini wedding extra special by creating the most beautiful and delicious cake. They even took the time to add our hand-cut flowers. Thank you Sweet Althea's!!

Cozy yet very clean back nook

As a baker I seek out genuine bakeries hopeful they will have hyper-delicious baked goods with genuine ingredients. Score 100% here. Scones, muffins, cupcakes, carrot and pound cake, cookies and bagels. Cakes to order. Just icing on the cake (!) that the women here are awesomely nice and cool. And Althea is not the owner's name! Bear cookies, relix mags, and some bears abound, including a Dead bear-shaped cookie! Cozy, friendly and clean. Oh and Dave's coffee AND they add the cream for you and don't make you go to one of those cheezy McDonald's-type condiment stand. 6 stars all the way!!

Our 3-tier wedding cake, made to look like a single tier. Vanilla icing, chocolate cake, with salted caramel inside. Outrageously delish!

After much consideration of the bakeries nearby our wedding venue, we scheduled 1 tasting a few weeks prior. All we knew was that we wanted a buttercake instead of fondant, since we prefer a delicious cake over a good looking one. Once we tried the signature flavor Kim recommended, it was a done deal. Didn't need to do any other tastings. Kim was very easy to communicate with via email & phone, she knew what we wanted and delivered beautifully. We needed a small cake for our intimate wedding (less than 30ppl). While looking through the books she had we loved this simple looking cake that was actually 2 or 3 tiers. I left the top decor to her since I wasn't sure whether I'd use the top I had prepared. Kim's touch with the branches on top looked perfect to match our simple and cute cake. They also had it delivered on time, as promised. The price was great, flavors amazing - we couldn't have been happier. It's been 6 months and we STILL get comliments and get asked where we got the amazing cake!

I've been here now on two occasions and both times was overwhelmingly satisfied with the wares offered. I can't speak for the coffee, as I'm not a coffee drinker. But the pastries are out of this world! So far, I've had the Fig Tart, and the Pistachio Cheesecake which was to die for. I'm hoping this cafe can make a go of it as Narragansett is pretty devoid of good bakeries in that end of the town. The bakeries near the shore tend to be tourist traps with mediocre offerings, indifferent staffing and exorbitant prices. Galleria Dolce is a welcomed breath of relief from these other shops. If you're in the area, I give it my highest recommendation.

And did I mention they throw tea parties? Absolutely love it & will be coming back!

They are committed to using healthy ingredients. The Morning Buns from this bakery were highly recommended by a local. They did not disappoint. Order included; **Morning Buns - their rendition of a cinnamon bun. "The bakers work this croissant dough for several days, folding in cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, and love. Guaranteed to be one of the best pastries you've ever tasted." The buttery layers melted in my mouth. The cinnamon was fragrant and did not dominate the flavor of the sweet pastry. I understand why they are the most popular item on the pastry menu. **Almond Danish -- My favorite in a close competition after a sampling. The almond paste gave them a pronounced nut flavor as well as a slightly chewy bite. **Monkey Bread pastry -- although fresh tasting, it was a little dry and only mildly flavorful. It was my least favorite. **Chocolate Chip Cookies -- crunchy at edges with a little chew and a pleasant aftertaste of butter. Excellent! As a novice baker of Sourdough Breads, I was pleased to learn that the Bakery has a Sourdough focus using sourdough starter for most products including the croissants believing it's healthier and easier to digest. Amazing! Wish I lived closer. The bread selection was impressive and included Sourdough. Sliced upon request, they are popular and often sold out. I was advised to get there early.

Charming interior, with space to eat on site. Over two visits in 2 days, I had their morning bun (OMG), spinach feta croissant and pain au chocolate... cannot wait to go back on my next trip to RI (or better yet, please open in NYC ). I think everything was $5.85/each.

I got there around 11am but they still had a wide selection of calzones, pastries and pizza available. The ladies working the counter were very nice and quick as well. Before long I had my pizza strip and zeppole, and was on my way. The pizza strip at first was sweet. Almost too sweet for me, but as I continued, the sweetness faded into balance with the crust and became quite enjoyable. It wasn't long before I polished it off. It is a softer strip, with a good amount of sauce on top. The zeppole was wonderful. The whipped cream was soft and pillowy inside delicate pastry. All of it was light as air and it was a struggle to stop at the hallway mark! But I had to save room for the lunch meeting so I forced myself to quit... For now! All of my interactions with him have left a bad taste in my mouth. He is so rude, dismissive and acts like he's doing you a favor by letting him make a cake for you. It sounds like they make delicious cakes here, but I never got the chance to try any. We tried on several occasions to set up a cake tasting appointment and a meeting to go over the cake we ordered. Just giving them a deposit ended up being so difficult--they never answered the phone and half the time their emails were returned to sender. I probably had to call five or six times just to connect with him on his cell to take the deposit. He would email me windows of time to make the call and then he wouldn't even answer. Their store is closed 90% of the time it is listed as being open. We also found out that the cake we ordered is actually being canceled and we got no explaination at all. Patticakes never even contacted us themselves and we only found through other means that they canceled all their orders for the summer. If we hadn't heard through the grapevine, we could've ended up a few weeks away from our event and not had our cake! Hopefully getting my deposit back will be easier than it was trying to pay it. And hopefully another bakery in the area will be available so close to my event. I don't know whats going on with this business, but its terribly run. I'd steer clear of it and find somewhere else to get a quality cake from. Doug will be the first to tell you (because he did) that no cake I get will be better than his. But at least those other cakes will be delivered.
