Pastries

One weekend afternoon in April 2026 I decided to pastry taste five spots in Newport Rhode Island. Mad Hatter came in 1 of 5. The place is very cute, the staff was very helpful, the selection was great and the treats were exceptional. I got the cinnamon covered muffin, lemon scone, and apple fritter. All three were excellent and the cinnamon muffin had a great flavor I've never had before. All the items were not too sweet and were flavored well. This spot is highly recommended.

We were in Rhode Island and we originally went in for a cake for a birthday celebration but they only had cupcakes so we got one large chocolate cupcake and an assortment or the different kinds they have available. It was a good thing we did because everyone loved it. You need to order a few days ahead for a cake. I tried the raspberry cupcake and the chocolate cupcake and they were delicious. I think the raspberry cupcake had a lemon flavor to it, if I'm. It mistaken and I can't forget it, yummy! The service was very cordial and nice and quick. They even gave us candles and had plastic knives for cutting. We send in at 1:30pm and the shop closes at 2:00pm. The shop was cute with displays of different types of bread displayed on the counter and cupcakes inside of the display.

I ordered a last minute Birthday cake white/white with raspberry filling . It was AMAZING !!!!!! A little pricy , but it was my fault waiting too long to order so I didn't mind one bit . All guests loved the cake !! I highly recommend this bakery for all your needs ! Cute inside and a lot of great baked goods in the case :) You can't go wrong !! I give this place 20 stars for perfection

Cute small bakery in Newport with awards all over the back wall. The place has homey vibes. They're in a prime location across from City hall. Parking is a little tough in this area so I'd plan ahead for that. We got the blueberry coffee cake and the spinach and feta croissant. Both were really good.

One of the cutest bakeries I've been to! We got poop emoji cupcakes that were hilarious and delicious. They were about $5 though so a bit pricy. They have coffee, though not many flavors, but they use coffee ice cubes instead of water ones. There were so many fun treats to pick from! Seating is limited but it's there!

I was very impressed with this bakery. It was clean, spacious and well lit. Unlike its competitors downtown they open early daily with the exception of Mondays (this is the one day a week that they are closed). They have a decent selection of premade deserts. The staff were friendly and incredibly prompt. They accept cash and credit ($10 minimum for card transactions). I would highly recommend this bakery to others.

There is a small, almost clear bug underneath the P and H of my friends name. See video to better identify the bug.

We found a bug crawling around the top of the cake after we had brought it home to celebrate my friends birthday. The cake box had been tapped shut by an employee when we picked it up in the morning and went straight in the frigide when we got home. We tried to call the bakery but they did not pick up and we never received a call back. It has been almost two weeks now without an answer.

Mozz - Charcuterie spread from Mozz's apertivo hour

You'd never know it was once a Newport Creamery (super casual diner-style eatery), because the owners have done an excellent job of renovating the space into an Italian-inspired fresh cafe. Of course, the house Mozzarella is a standout, and they do provide samples upon request. They also have an impressive array of imported cheese and meats, perfect for crafting a memorable charcuterie board. I love their Espresso brewed fresh to order with pistachio milk (!! Where else have you ever seen pistachio milk?!), and the Frittata with potato and onion is my favorite for a light brunch moment. Make sure you ask them to heat it up for you! Ample seating inside and outside at adorable cafe tables round out the Italian street cafe vibe, and Mozz is not to be missed for your Newport adventure!

I got a canolli and sfogliatella.. It's the only spot I found in town with Italian treats you can pickup and go. The canolli was really tasty but it was very small and very expensive. The sfogliatella matched the taste and quality of those I had in Napoli, Italy. It was expensive though. The spot has a pleasant sitting area that's functional but not necessarily cute to sit in and relax. Not much to look at inside. Overall a spot to get your Italian fix if you feel like paying the prices. It does have a great selection of cheeses, meats, and Italian goods which admittedly I didn't try. It's a slightly expensive spot even for Newport which is already an expensive town to eat in.

We happened to come across this spot and the line was out the door. Decided we'd try another day…read more That night while watching football at a local restaurant, we met Keith. We mentioned we were interested in trying Cru and he told us we wouldn't be disappointed. The next day we went and though there was still a line, it went quickly. We ordered the Irish Breakfast Burrito, a side of bacon and potato hash, a sugar cookie, an apple hand pie, and an orange juice. The burrito was big enough to share (which we did) and was delicious! Big chunks of corned beef, eggs, cheese and potatoes. Did not disappoint! The OJ was fresh squeezed and just right. The bacon and potato hash was good, but a bit salty. I would have liked more chunky potatoes, but that's just me, my sister enjoyed them and they were tasty. Their cookies (you definitely need to get one!) are cut in half and filled with a buttercream filling and then the end is dipped in chocolate. They were so soft and the amount of buttercream was just right, not making it overly sweet. And they had so many different flavors of cookies it was hard to decide on just one. The Apple hand pie was perfect! The crust was nice and flaky without falling apart. The apples had just the right sweetness. I really debated about getting the blueberry muffin because we already had so much food. I definitely missed out on that. The lady next to us got one and she said it was delicious. (We got ours to-go because we knew we wouldn't have room after breakfast). Parking can be hit or miss, we lucked out and found a spot in the small lot. There is paid parking in the larger lot next door or you might be able to find parking on the street. It's definitely worth finding a spot to eat here. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It's a cute spot to eat. We didn't have lunch there, but their lunch menu looked amazing and if it's as good as their breakfast, it's worth a visit.

The welcoming atmosphere was absolutely amazing, lovely ambience, and the Eggs Newport (crab eggs…read moreBenedict) was outstanding! Kat assisted us and was the friendliest person we have encountered on our road trip along the entire East Coast, she even gave us some complementary pastries as a welcome to Newport!
