Ordered a strawberry shortcake for a family member's birthday. We got the cake and there were zero fresh strawberries anywhere on it, just a thin layer of strawberry jam in the middle. We were all extremely disappointed because this was not an inexpensive cake. Having only a small line of jam in the middle does not constitute a strawberry shortcake, it was basically white cake with tiny bit of jam. I am not one to write reviews, especially for a small business (bad review), however, after I found out it was the owner that had terrible communication. I could not hold back. I ordered a special cake on Wednesday September 20 for a pick-up on Friday, September 29 (10 days in advance). I ordered in person with Tony, very mellow, soft spoken gentleman. I ordered a heart shaped cake for my daughter's 13th birthday (her request). I showed a picture of the cake and paid the $55.00. Tony stated for myself to send an email to Paul with full details. I did that within an hour from ordering. On Thursday, the 21st. I sent another email to Paul requesting to add strawberries in the center of the cake. He then replied, Sorry that cake is already completed. I was stated how could that be as the cake is being picked up next Friday. He responded, that he got confused and to call the bakery. The next, morning (my fault) I forgot call the bakery. On Wednesday, I called the bakery and left a voice message with that request. On Thursday, the day before I pick up the cake, I get a missed call from Paul. I then return the call within the hour. Now this is were it gets bad. Paul, rudely states that the cake is all done, he had no picture of what the cake is supposed to look like (I showed Tony he wrote the details and I sent an email too). Paul stated, "no picture was sent". I was like well you had 10 days to review this order, if you had questions about it why did you not call or email me earlier. Then he proceeds to tell me, you're going to love me cake, it is what it is and I should have charged you more money than what you paid for what I made you. I could not believe what he was saying to a paying customer. To make matters worse, the cake was horrible. It was super dry, with strawberry jelly. There was not even fresh strawberries anywhere in the cake. I would not recommend this bakery, between the lack of communication, the terrible customer service, and the taste of the cake, I give this place a 1 star. My hope is that the owner takes this review seriously and make some needed changes. read more

This is a cute little bakery, that despite the name, does a whole lot more than cakes. They've got cupcakes, pies, pastries, even cafe' drinks. I haven't tried anything except their cupcakes, but they're delicious. Try to get in at the beginning of the day though, cause they run out pretty quickly by the end of the day (I think they close at 6). Just yesterday I got to try their lemon cupcake and their berry berry cupcake. The cake was angelfood, the fillings were lemon and blueberry, and the flavor was deeeelicious. After trying one, I went back and bought them out, so I could bring some back for everyone else. For real. Yum. I also hear their cannolis are awesome, but I haven't had a chance to try one yet. She was very unfriendly and not welcoming at all. When we asked what kind of cupcake she had left she opened up the cake dome and took a big sniff to see what it smelled like. If my 3 year old hadn't been promised a cupcake I would have walked out immediately. She grabbed the cupcake with her hand and said without emotion "Can I just give this to him?" This tiny bakery in Bristol is unmatchable. Paul, the owner, is a master. He did both a rehearsal dinner cake and the wedding cake for my daughter's wedding. For the rehearsal cake, he used two adorable doggie (bride and groom) cake toppers made by the mother of the groom. Paul went above and beyond by adding a wide plaid ribbon with bow and dying coconut green to put under the Scottie dogs. Everyone was blown away, first by the looks and then by the cake itself - a white cake with lemon fruit filling. Next, for the wedding cake, which was two tiers of red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. Paul asked for a photo of flowers for the colors to be used and the gum paste flowers he created and decorated the top of the cake with only added to the simple, elegant cake, perfectly covered in cream colored fondant. The antique glass pedestal that my daughter chose to display the cake was not steady enough to hold the cake, so Paul went to work adding a foil covered pedestal to make it work. Again, no one could stop raving about the beauty and taste. The moist, delicious cake, together with Paul's artistic talent make The Cake Gallery the best yet. Unfortunately, I live in New York City, but next time I'm in Bristol, I'll be sure to drop in. read more

My favorite cake flavor has to be their yellow with strawberry filling. Also, I would highly recommend the chocolate cake with oreo filling. Their frosting is very light, they but just enough on the cake without having to take some off. They also have delicious cupcakes. They are very oversized and filled with fillings such as strawberry, creme, lemon etc. Everything has been delicious! I had been looking for a place to make a special cake. Visited this establishment in Bristol, RI, one of my favorite coastal towns in the Northeast. As we walked in, on a summer Saturday afternoon, there was a couple ordering ice cream from the store's attendant (blonde female). While we waited our turn, we couldn't help but witness how unprofessional and rude this woman was to this couple, while she waited on them. When it was my turn to speak, I told her why I was there...her immediate response, in an annoyed way.." all our stuff is online"...so I asked if they had a catalog or something where I could see samples of their cakes, in order to place an order....she replied "no" in the utmost rude and unprofessional way I have seen in a long time, a customer be treated. My story goes like this. I wanted to try somewhere different for a birthday cake as I usually go to Stop & Shop (they make pretty good cakes!) or Gregg's and I wanted to be adventurous this time. My wife told me she had heard of a bakery in Bristol that made good cakes (although she couldn't remember the name of it), so I fired up the ole' Yelp app and lo and behold I found The Cake Gallery with their numerous five star reviews. I stopped by on Friday before closing and asked if I could grab a cake for the Saturday birthday celebration and was dismayed when I was told that they make their cakes to order so they didn't have anything, but to try calling on Saturday morning in case they had an extra cake. I trudged back to Seekonk, called Saturday morning, and the man who picked up the phone said they had an extra white cake...yah! He helped me decide on buttercream frosting and fudge truffle filling, and when I picked it up at 3pm I was impressed with just how beautiful it looked. Long story short (or maybe long story long), everyone enjoyed the cake and I can't wait to try them again for the next birthday celebration, although next time I'll order in advance and will try one of their many specialty cakes. So disappointed. We're from out of town so I specifically sought out a specialty cake shop in the area to do a red velvet cake for me. It looked nice and delicious, but not at all. It was so tasteless and the icing was not cream cheese as discussed, but almost a whipped frosting that was granular, not smooth. My MIL asked if they made a mistake and it was chocolate, but there wasn't even enough flavor for it to be considered chocolate. It simply tasted like brown sponge cake. I drove out of my way to get this cake, which only added to the letdown. The cookies looked wonderful, so I wish I would have bought a few of those as a back up and to have another product to review. Beware when ordering!! I ordered gluten free cupcakes for a family member with celiac disease. I specified GF and celiac disease when ordering. After eating one of the cupcakes, she became violently ill VOMITING for hours. When I called and spoke to the owner, I barely received an apology and was never offered a refund.
