After visiting Awesome Sweets as part of the inaugural Triple Play: Best Donuts, Best Cookies, & Best Cupcakes by RI FOOD FIGHTS in April, I knew I had to order a cupcake bouquet from Awesome Sweets for my friend's bridal celebration party. The cupcake bouquets are made to order and come in a variety of flowers and colors. Bouquets come in 7, 12, 14, 19, 24 cupcakes. Three weeks ahead of the date of the party, I called and placed an order with Susan, owner of Awesome Sweets Bakery. Susan walked me through the flavors and fillings of the cupcakes and the colors. I chose 7 cupcakes-3 Red Velvet filled with Chocolate Mousse and 4 Funfetti filled with Strawberry Buttercream and for colors-blue, yellow, white, and pink. Credit card information was also taken when I placed my order. It was very easy to work with Susan. On the day of the party, I went to pick up the cupcake bouquets and they all looked so beautiful. It was stored in a tall box and was easy to transport. I can tell so much attention to detail and hard work went into piping the flower petals. The cupcakes were moist and icing wasn't overly sweet. Came here for RI Food Fights and I chose their mocha cappuccino cupcake. The coffee flavor was strong and absolute perfection. I haven't tasted many desserts like this - the flavor was amazing and the cupcake was moist. The frosting was also incredible and had a nice, silky texture. I loved the little sticks as well. My cake lady sold the business and moved down south. I MISS YOU MELISSA!! I walked into Awesome yesterday and noticed the change immediately- but sidenote I was unaware that the owners changed. The person working the counter explained everything to me but said don't worry- same recipes! I had reached out via email while they were on vacation for a cake for my son's birthday. I was given a quote and thought wow- that's high! I have bought at least 5 cakes from Melissa and only paid that much once when I was ordering for a large party not a dinner for 10. I just thought- well the times they are a changing! Now it makes sense. I changed my order to a dozen cupcakes. Bottom line: I was disappointed. The cupcakes were priced at over $3 a piece and they were small, inconsistent (look at the coloring of the actual cake and some were a little bigger and some a little smaller than others) and the icing was too sweet. Our wedding cake was sooo delicious!! We had golden cake with raspberry filling and ivory vanilla buttercream frosting. So happy that I met these amazing ladies at the RI Bridal Show. The samples at the bridal show were delicious and moist (I detest that word but I mean really you do want a moist cake!) and that was what I found at the tasting as well as the final product. The tasting was unique with six different cupcake flavors, six different fillings and six different frostings. I made a blind taste test sheet and bride, groom, and family all voted. We had a tie for the golden cake and the red velvet for taste and ended up going with the traditional look of golden cake. We ordered a large three tier cake and a sheet cake which was more than enough to serve our 120 guests. Highly recommend and I will be stopping in soon for a cupcake! read more

Sue and her team at Awesome Sweets did an incredible job on our wedding cake! We had gotten a fun birthday cake from them in the past so already had a good opinion going in, but we were completely blown away! We had a very ambitious design in mind; a three tiered cake decorated with sculpted buttercream icing, fondant drapery, two different fillings, a fresh fruit and edible flower decor, all big enough to feed a hundred or so people. We also wanted a matching gluten-, egg-, and dairy-free cupcake bouquet for the folks in our wedding with allergies. Sue was incredible every step of the way. She walked us through each decision we needed to make on the taste and presentation, from the flavor of frosting and filling, to the tier size, offset, and position of the decor to best present the fondant folds. The only item we were asked to provide was the flowers, and there are many sites that will ship to any address in the US so it was easy for us to accomplish. We got edible roses, carnations, and herb blossoms (and took the opportunity to stock up for our bartenders signature drinks as well). The cake was delivered on time and looked absolutely stunning. The cupcakes were included as well, and made to specification with no allergens. We got so many compliments on how beautiful it all looked, and as many on how great it tasted! Everything was delicious, including the allergen-free cupcakes. Our only regret is it was all eaten, so we'll just have to go back and get another (Non-wedding!) cake soon. I was looking for someone who could deliver something to a team member of mine to congratulate him and his wife for a baby on the way. We have a team meeting on Monday and I had hoped to have something delivered during the meeting however, no bakeries in the area that deliver appeared to be open on Monday. We decided to have his delivery scheduled for Sunday. The staff who took my call were so very accommodating in helping me to figure out what to send and when we should plan the delivery. Unfortunately, on the day we decided, my colleague was not home and not answering calls. The kind folks at Awesome Sweets called and let me know that with the heat on Sunday, the frosting would surely melt if they left on their doorstep. After and truly star worthy amount of patience and back and forth, my colleague arrived home and the delivery was able to be made after all. I think the main thing I want to convey is this - this bakery takes their customer's satisfaction very seriously. They were kind, patient and used common sense throughout their interaction with me.
