Decent Merlot
David C.

Second time this summer... Anniversary and now a birthday! What I love about this place is you can work the menu. What I mean by that is this place could be pricey but if you search and connect specials you can have a great time and not break the bank! We ordered the stuffies, that were fantastic--and the shrimp cocktail that were huge (6) and delicious! $25 I ordered the lobster tamale...a corn sheath stuffed with corn meal and LOBSTER swimming in a delicious broth! Fabulous. ($20) My wife ordered the sword fish that was off the hook!! A beautiful bottle of Chilean Merlot $30... it was divine. Look at the view!! Nick, our waiter was excellent. Top notch and well done!

Linguini & Clams

I had come to Coast Guard House once before for dinner years ago, but during chillier months. There seemed to be a wedding or an event going on since the valet lot was full and most street parking was taken. I remember there being a patio overlooking the ocean, giving incredible views while eating dinner. That part has not changed. We got a table partly shaded, partly sunny. To start, we ordered the Firefly Mule ($15.00) which had Velo Butterfly Vodka, Guava Puree, Lime Juice, Ginger Beer. The first sip was good, but it somehow got progressively worse. I will say the guava puree was delicious, I wish there was more of it. We shared 4 cocktail shrimp and they were a bit firmer/dense, so maybe slightly overcooked. We ordered a Lychee Martini ($15.00) which has Grey Goose Vodka, Lychee Juice, Lemon, Simple Syrup Joto 'The Blue One' Junmai Nigori Sake. The start was okay, but the ending was terrible, almost like sipping rubbing alcohol. In hindsight, we would've swapped grey goose for a better vodka. We did ask for more simple syrup to try to balance out the bitterness but there was no remedy. For our entrees, we had the Linguine & Clams ($29.00) with Native little neck clams, fresh herbs, garlic white wine butter sauce and the Sunset Farm Burger ($24.00) 1/2 local ground beef, 1/2 ground bacon, crispy onion strings, arugula, cheddar, garlic aioli & sunny side up farm egg, brioche bun. I did upgrade my fries to truffle your fries for +$3.00 and it was the best decision I made. The plates looked spectacular. The burger patty didn't look too impressive, but everything on the burger all together looked amazing. The egg was cooked to perfection, the bun was slightly grilled, the cheese was melted well, and the arugula looked fresh. I wish it did come with more crispy onions and more garlic aioli. I think tomato would've gone well too. I could actually taste the bacon in the patty, but I wish it were in the form of crispy strips instead for a saltier finish. The fries were crispy, packed with truffle oil and parmesan cheese, and crispy; no complaints. The linguine and clams was decent. I am not the biggest fan of clams but these tasted fresh. The garlic white wine butter sauce was simple, good, and taste just as the name implies - a combination of all three ingredients. Our waiter was good to us; very charismatic and attentive.

Awesome location right on the water. The view and location is definitely 5 stars however the food was not. I got the quinoa salad and added chicken (for $9) and only received 3 small slabs of blackened chicken. Food was tasty, just disappointed about the size given the price. The Caesar salad was delicious but only came with one broccolini that was cold. Drinks were great and refreshing. Service was quite slow at times and our food took a while to come out despite it being a slower lunch rush. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for just drinks on the water!

Halibut w grilled shrimp

The food was spectacular !!! A must when coming to RI . We started with a mushroom ravioli that was so good that we forgot to take a picture . Drinks were great ! Had a NA watermelon froze w lemon that was great . My dish was the halibut but I added 3 blackened shrimp and I must say it was one of the best meals ever . We also ordered a swordfish dinner and the scallop dinner and everything was amazing including the bread :) The service was top notch and the ambiance was first class we sat inside but outside seating was available.

Visited during the most recent nor'easter. Busy despite the inclement weather. New England clam chowder as a starter. Lobster roll with fries for lunch. Good portions. Bar staff attentive as every seat was occupied. Panoramic views of the water from inside.

Rating: 4.3 Came to the place for lunch with family and friends. We reserved an outside tent for the lunch. It's a nice restaurant located right by the ocean in Narraganset. Complimentary valet parking available along with street parking. Once we got there we were directed to the outside tent seatings. Looks like they have a theme for each one and one we were at was winter themed. Inside was nice and cozy and was quite warm. Once we got seated we looked at the menu and placed order for some drinks and appetizers. We got some oysters and prime rib cheese egg rolls. They were both delicious. Oysters were fresh. I got a non alcoholic drink the country road which was fruity and refreshing. I ended up getting lobster mac and cheese. Lots of lobster meat and cheesy macaronis with bread crumb was tasty. Service was excellent and waiter was very attentive and came to check in multiple times. Overall it's a nice spot for nicer meal. Price is on the higher side but food was pretty good. Outside seating was $100 per group and for 3 hours so not too bad. Downside was that ventilation was poor so it was pretty hot inside and only way to cool down was to keep the door propped open but it was windy day so door kept banging and the next group was doing the same thing. Probably a good idea to put a window on the door or something. Some of the tables were also pretty wobbly which was a but annoying.

Came here on a weekend summer evening, and the wait was over an hour so recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Try to get a reservation at the Patio if you can, seating is right next to the ocean. Servers were nice and worked hard to get us a walk in seating as soon as they could. We sat at the top bar upstairs, which also has a great view. I feel like it's the restaurant with the best views in Narragansett. Ordered the swordfish with couscous and miso salmon with rice noodles, both were delicious and had unique flavors.

Calamari

Unfortunately the rain prevented us from sitting outside. The ocean waves lapping at the shore while we eat is part of the allure of this place. Inside was very noisy and it made conversation hard. We shared the calamari which was a combination of spirals and tentacles. Not the best or the worst I have had. I would say that about all the food. The fish and chips were fresh but not overly flavorful. Kara, our waitress, was very friendly and made the dinner a pleasurable experience . It was my friend's birthday and mine was yesterday but none of the desserts sounded that appealing. The restaurant was packed so it apparently has a following! I don't need to come back

Lobster Tamale

Coast Guard House is a must-stop for us in Narragansett! The lobster tamale is a unique and delicious was to eat lobster, it was on our minds from our first visit four years ago. We had a nice view of the water from our table, and the service was outstanding, especially with the dessert recommendation!

I was a little hesitant about trying this place out based on mixed reviews... I'm glad I don't listen to the bad ones because I would have missed out on an amazing experience. We booked an igloo because I get social anxiety and the ambiance in there is so what you make of it and because I was there with my family, it was fun! our waiter, Nicholas, was by far the best waiter we have ever had! What tops this whole experience is that the food was actually delicious! Drinks and desserts were also really good! It's only a 15-20 minute drive from our house so that's a plus! I highly recommend you book an igloo (cold months) or ocean/outside seating bc the sound of the waves is so relaxing while enjoying good food and drinks! I hope that you have the same amazing experience that my family and I had and I'm glad my friend Heidi recommended this place!

GF Mac and cheese

The meal won't be cheap, but it will be super good! We went for a girls night and everyone loved their dinner. My best friend has a gluten allergy and she was blown away by their mac n cheese. They had a bunch of options for her to pick from which was a real nice plus. Wine was good. They had lots of cocktails and mocktails in addition to their wine list. The bread was amazing too! My friends love the dessert that they split. All and all everyone was satisfied. Our wait staff was amazing. Our head waitress was witty and super helpful. Her assistant was working her first night and we honestly had no clue until she told us. She was wonderful! I would come back again for a nice date night or celebratory event!

Came to enjoy a meal with a group in one the nice igloos and it was so beautiful on a sunny day with picturesque vibes and decor. We got the winter theme and it was all white with the views of the ocean next to us. For drinks I got the expresso solar(the name was something like that) and it was tasty and not too bitter! My meal was very filling and savory with lobster topping and lobster filling in the raviolis. The appetizers we ordered were lobster theme, and I think anything lobster here was taste. The egg rolls weren't rolls, but very tasty and hot. The oysters were ok compared to the delicious lobster options. The sobert was simple and tasty, but the highlight for me was the entree. One thing to consider is maybe grab an igloo in the afternoon or evening . The igloos were very warm with heaters but the sun beating down on us and the igloo having a plastic cover really got us warm. We had to prop open the door to get some cold relief. The doors should have a mechanism to prop it open when needed instead of relying on two random chairs we grabbed from other outdoor tables.

Salmon

Food/Drinks: The food seemed pretty good. I had the salmon, but shortly after leaving I started getting really bad stomach cramps that lasted all night and even made me sick. My husband had the same dish and felt sick too, so it definitely seemed connected. We reached out to the restaurant and one manager was very helpful, but the other wasn't so much. They told us no one else had reported issues, and not much can be done. The drinks, on the other hand, were good. I only tried one, but I'd honestly come back just for the drinks and the views. Location: The location is beautiful, right on the water, and the themed bubbles are such a fun option for parties or special occasions. Definitely Instagram-worthy. This is the perfect spot to dress up, definitely not casual , and they also had valet parking which was a plus. Service: The service was also solid. Because we were in the bubble, we had two servers who checked in often, which was really nice and they were helpful, and got the job done. Overall, I'd come back for the drinks, and the views. I'd stay away from the salmon, but maybe try another dish since no one else in our group got sick except the two of us who ate the salmon.

What id the patio like for evening dining? Trying to decide where to do the reservation

If you mean the outdoor restaurant dining at Coast Guard House, it is excellent if the weather is excellent. Right on the sea, with great food. Wonderful

Is the reserved outdoor seating at the Coast Guard House shaded?

They have large sails and umbrellas but there are areas the sun shines through. Overall, an excellent experience

What are the differences between the Main Dining Room and the Anchor Room?

The Anchor Room has unobstructed views of the ocean through large windows. It's great for big party occasions up to 100 people.

Do they have their own parking lot?

They do, but it’s valet only. There is a lot of street parking directly outside of the restaurant in both directions. When we went, it was really easy to find a street spot

Is there a kids menu?

Yes, there is kids menu. Nothing fancy, just the basic!

Can you wear jeans?

Yes, the only dress code requirements are no tank tops or bathing suits.

I don't see fish and chips on their menu on the website but it's listed on previous menus, has anyone ordered this recently?

I went in the beginning of July and they offered it as a special of the day.

Do they have a kids menu? I didn't see one on their website.

Yes. A generous portion of chicken tenders, grilled cheese, a hot dog and kids pasta.

Is it a dog friendly place?

No dogs.

Should you make reservations on a weeknight?

I always reserve a table even in the off-season, especially if you want to eat in the main/formal dining area. At the height of the summer season, it's pretty much de rigueur.

What more could you want than Mexican brunch and outdoor seating? They're always quick to greet us when we get there and let us choose where we want to sit. I love that! Inside is really nice, although we've never chosen to sit there because we're usually down in this area during the summer. I had the Huevos Rancheros. I love the way they serve theirs with the fresh avocado, and the black beans on the side with the cojita cheese. Everything is always cooked perfectly and not overly seasoned. Staff is always very attentive. One of my go tos the Narragansett area. I would definitely recommend trying this if you like authentic Mexican food!

The bathrooms were very clean, but the tile is a little bit slippery. I was using a cane and was having trouble getting a grip on the floor. We had really good service, our waitress was attentive and either the manager or owner came around to check on how we were doing. So I really appreciated that. The food itself was not my favorite, which is why this is a three star review. The Birria was OK, but it definitely needed more flavor which could have been helped by more cheese, onions and cilantro. I also think they need another type of hot sauce because I was looking for something a little bit of a kick to add to my Birria and they only had a very very mild sauce. The rice was fine and I ordered some refined beans for additional protein, which were OK. Definitely not my favorite but the texture was good. The flavor wasn't my favorite but I can't actually describe what I didn't like about it. So that's not very helpful, sorry all. The margarita was the biggest disappointment and I should have brought it to the staff's attention because they did ask how everything was tasting and I just didn't realize it first how much I hated it. So that is totally on me. It was passionfruit, but I think they must use some type of nectar like a Goya brand which really doesn't have a ton of passionfruit flavor. Maybe I'm used to more artificial passionfruit juice but usually a passionfruit margarita has more of a yellow orange color and has a lot more flavor but this margarita margarita was on the bitter side, and whatever tequila was used really hurt my stomach. I didn't drink most of it because I just couldn't finish it. I would probably come back to give it another try because the service and ambience were good and I didn't outright hate the food, but I think I'd order something completely different.
