On Tuesday, August 2, my partner and I stopped into Bar 12 for a drink. When we arrived, there was a young bartender behind the bar and a young couple seated nearby who appeared to be friends of his. They were engaged in a personal conversation about a party, a necklace, and other personal matters that continued after we were seated. The bartender greeted us briefly, placed a couple of menus on the bar, and then immediately returned to his conversation. We waited approximately five minutes without being offered water, asked for a drink order, or otherwise acknowledged. At that point, we decided to leave. When the bartender asked why, we explained that we felt he had been more focused on his conversation than on serving his customers. Rather than apologizing or acknowledging our concern, he responded that he was talking to his friends and intended to finish that conversation first, making it clear that they were his priority. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing first impression. Good service starts with making customers feel welcome and attended to, even if it's simply acknowledging them, offering water, or letting them know you'll be with them shortly. None of that happened here, and we chose to take our business elsewhere. read more

Bar 12 serves curated wines, creative cocktails, beer, and small bites in a speakeasy type of environment. There's seats at the bar and a few high top tables with booth seating across from it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]No reservations, walk ins only. I suggest keeping it to groups of 2-3. Anything larger is a tight fit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came in after 10pm on a Saturday and were lucky to snag the only open table left. The craft cocktails are reasonably priced for the area at $15. There's a large variety and they even have mocktails. You can tell that the owners put creativity and thought into the drinks. They also have a food menu (snacks and small appetizers only) but we didn't get to try anything because it's only available until 10pm. Service was great. Bartenders are friendly and put a lot of love and effort into making your drinks. We ordered a margarita and a dark n' stormy (dark rum, lime, ginger beer). Both were presented beautifully and we enjoyed them! If you're in the Newport area and want to enjoy unique cocktails in a more intimate environment, definitely check this spot out. read more

What a great new cocktail bar! Bar 12 opened in May and they're off to a great start! I tried a good portion of the menu and every drink is delicious. The favorite of the group is Grasshopper, a delicious dessert martini with mint and cream, and Planter's Punch, a tropical cocktail with sweet flavors. The menu truly has a drink for everyone. You can't go wrong with anything you choose. It is very tiny. There are a few combination standing/sitting tables and a bar. My first visit I had to wait for a table to open. My second was on a rainy day and it was spacious for a few hours. The service is great. If you're able to sit at the bar, the head bartender is super quick. Tables can be tricky just mostly for servers to walk by those who have to stand. It's worth the wait though! They also offer food but I haven't tried anything yet! Hip and cool bar in Newport. Came here on a weekday evening. Love the mood and ambiance inside. Got the last night in Oaxaca and thin mintini. Both were good, the mezcal drink was boozier than expected. Loved the thin mintini; it was delicious and a great dessert. i also got the pork belly sliders which were very good.
