I use to love visiting surf club as a local. I visited here for the first time in a few years and the food is still amazing. However, the service was not good. It felt like as a customer we were a bothering them asking for simple things. We had to grab their attention just to order. On the bright side we met a nice couple with a cute dog! Make sure to order the twisty bread for an appetizer, it's the best.

We had a reservation at 8:30 on a Saturday night, we arrived 50min early to see if we could be seated earlier, which they were able to do. I had no clue there was a downstairs, it was so cool down there! Huge bar, darker, you can see into the kitchen, a great lay-out. Drinks were great, I got the pumpkin espresso martini. Food was even better. I split the Cali Sandwich and Steak Tacos with a friend and both were delicious!! Great place to come with a big group of people to enjoy great food.

My husband and I went here on a Saturday night at 8 o'clock. It has a lively and fun atmosphere. We were seated at a high top table near the bar. After waiting for over 15 minutes for someone to come, take our drink order my husband finally walked over to a few staff members and asked if anyone was servicing our table. It seems as though two different staff members each thought the other one was servicing our table, and they apologized for the oversight. Shortly after they took our drink order, a manager came over to the table with a complementary app and offered a round of drinks on the house. We definitely didn't expect this, but it was a very nice gesture. The appetizer she brought over was a twisty bread and it's something we never would've normally ordered, but it was fantastic. I had a spicy watermelon margarita and it was so good! I definitely recommend trying it. For my meal, I ordered the tuna poke bowl, which is very good. All in all I would say it was a good night. The drinks were good, the food was good. It was a lively and fun atmosphere and they were able to turn the service around. We'll likely return again.

This is such a vibe for a meal in Newport! With seating and bar right outside at the intersection of shops and the water, the surf club is definitely a good stop. My friend and I split the prosciutto and arugula pizza which was delicious! Their aperol spritz was also so refreshing too! The service was quick and our waiter was friendly as well. Such a good place to hang out with family or friends.

This corner spot is great for a hot day if you choose to sit inside. There is a bar option as well. I ordered the blackened shrimp bowl and it was amazing. Very flavorful. I also tried a burger which also was flavorful and very thick. Very juicy though. The service was average. Recommend going at a time that is less busy because it's very quiet and great without a ton of people!

Espresso martini in a solo cup

awful wait staff slow and not friendly at all waited 20 minutes for a espresso martini. that was served in a plastic solo cup I get it your a outdoor bar but really a 15.00 martini in a solo cup absolutely ridiculous !!!!!! but you serve your fries on a plate with metal utensils.. Get it Together

Great service! We came during the day to the outside part of surf club. We had a great pizza and I would definitely recommend the Aperol spritz on the menu. Probably the best I've ever had. I don't think it's priced too poorly given it actually tasted great and the location of the restaurant.

One of the most underrated places in Newport; it's one of our favorites! Really fun and inviting tiki hut vibe outside- you can sit at the low/high tops or at the bar (or inside the restaurant, but totally different atmosphere). Plenty of shade outside, whether it's at the bar or a table. We always sit at the bar, so service is always prompt and available. Mixed drinks here are delicious, and they also offer a solid variety of seltzers and beer. The food at Surf Club is amazing!!! I was not a fan of the "breakfast/brunch" menu, but the lunch/dinner menu is great!! We've tried the meatballs, twisty bread, prosciutto and arugula pizza, chicken bacon ranch pizza, and pizza blanco (white pizza). The chicken bacon ranch pizza is the best of the pizzas, and the twisty bread with the tomato fondue is my absolute favorite. (Tip: if you don't get the twisty bread, ask for a side of the tomato fondue and use it to dip your pizza crust in it.) Meatballs are pretty solid as well. We will obviously be back each and every time we visit Newport!! Oh AND, they're dog-friendly (they even have a dog menu)!

Loved the casual vibe of this place. Great outdoor dining experience with chill music, good service, and good drinks. The menu is fairly large, with a nice mix of seafood and non seafood options. I highly recommend the tequila braised pork!

Great dinner spot in Newport. Easy to get to and near a lot of different shops. Food was great, they have many different option and drinks were amazing (could definitely taste the alcohol). Service was fast and staff was great even for a busy busy night! Must go to if ever in Newport.

Roasted Mushroom Taco

Ambiance is cool, not too loud to eat and talk. Younger crowd. DJ after 10pm or so. Pool table in back. Pretty clean bathrooms. Some of the food last time we went was really salty to the point you almost couldn't eat it, like the nachos had sea salt added on top of them. But, nice staff, decent service and cool place for late night or date night in downtown Westerly!

Got food and drinks. Everything was fine, but our bartender was not very nice and a little rude. It put a damper on our evening.

It was a BUSY Saturday night, we had no reservation, and the bar was packed... but divine timing somehow worked in our favor and two seats opened up right at the end of the bar. That's where we met Nick behind the bar, and honestly, he made the night. Nick was working the service well, taking care of a packed bar and banging out beautifully curated cocktails. I still don't know how he was that efficient while also taking the time to walk us through the entire menu. You could tell he genuinely took pride in the food he was describing and wanted us to experience it. I started with the Mezcal Negroni and from there we decided on a few small bites. First, the ricotta gnudi... perfectly fried and warm with just the right bite on the outside, then you break into this warm, soft little pillow of ricotta that was an absolute flavor bomb. Finished with freshly shaved Parmesan on top. I swear for a second I thought I was sitting somewhere on the water in Italy. Then the Scotch bonnet egg... WOW... truly every dish was just mind blowing ...all this dishes we ate....Nothing overpowered anything else. Every bite mattered. You could actually taste every layer and every little detail that went into all the dishes. Then came the beef tartare. Beautifully presented with the green crab purée in the center and crispy chips for that perfect crunch. Katie came over herself to explain the dish, and once you got everything together in one bite... absolute flavor explosion. Rich, bright, creamy, salty, crunchy. Everything on that plate had a purpose. We were also told we HAD to try the sweet corn agnolotti and THANK GOD we listened. Another complete flavor bomb. Absolutely amazing. It genuinely gives some of my favorite Italian restaurants in Beverly Hills El Baldi a run for their money. At this point Nick basically said, "Trust me," and asked if he could choose our next course. YES. PLEASE. Out came this gorgeous lamb sausage with fresh greens, snap peas, mint, dill, pickled vegetables and this beautiful creamy green sauce underneath. THAT DISH. The sausage was rich, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, but all those fresh herbs, greens and acidity made the entire plate feel bright and balanced. Hearty and comforting while somehow still tasting fresh and light. Then Nick convinced us to put our trust in him one last time and let him choose dessert. He brought out the bread pudding and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the PERFECT ending to this entire food adventure. I literally had tears in my eyes. The food, the cocktails, the service, the salt water in the air, the smiles from the staff... everything just came together.....Nothing was pretentious. Everything was highly elevated while still having this incredible sense of warmth and comfort. It almost felt like being welcomed into someone's home and they just happened to be cooking some of the best food you've ever eaten. Huge shoutout to GM Katie and bartender Nick. Thank you both for giving us one of the most amazing and memorable dining experiences I've ever had. We walked in on a packed Saturday night without a reservation, just hoping to grab a couple seats, have a cocktail and eat something good... and walked out feeling like we had experienced something really special. 10/10. Every bite. Every cocktail. Every detail. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I was seated immediately and had a nice view of the water on a high-top. I ordered the cue the cucumber mocktail and enjoyed it. For my food I got two oysters, the pickled summer vegetables, and the scallop crudo. I like pickled things, so the veggies were fun. I think I wish the crudo had more to it, but it was still nice. Service was a bit slow, but I had a pleasant time here.

I don't like hearing what others discuss; nor do I want them listening to us either. It was that kind of close. However, the food was quite good. One of the highlights was their Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho Soup, made with Heirloom Tomatoes, Cucumber, Green Peppers, Red Wine Vinegar, Red Onion, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It was served pureed. I probably would have liked some of the cucumber and green pepper tossed in the soup finely diced just for a little crunch, but the soup tasted fine, and we always love when gazpacho is offered, which is rarely. We also tried the Pulpo a la Plancha, which was charred octopus over a bed of corn, red pepper and a few other items (that I now don't recall.) The octopus was good... I've had better elsewhere, but this was still good. Not seasoned all that much, and perhaps, a bit too charred, but we made it work. The star of the evening were the scallops. We actually split the entree, and with a side addition of broccolini, it actually was enough food for us, since we both had the gazpacho and octopus as appetizers. Amazing how growing older has diminished our appetites... but we figured that since we're on a road trip, it's not like doggy bags for leftovers will work out, so we didn't want to waste any food and just ordered the one entree. There were five good size scallops (already a bonus cuz most restaurants only give THREE, and they gave FIVE at Flora). It came with Corn Puree, Roasted Corn pieces, Tomato Gazpacho, Truffle Dust, and Sweet Potato Crisps. The scallops were succulent, flavorful, and meaty. Absolutely delicious... and the accompanying corn and tomato flavors added even more flavor. We would've licked the plate if we could. Lastly, the sangria was sweet and refreshing. I would definitely return here if we ever get back to Newport.
