It was very busy on the main piers by plethora of shops and fudge stores, so we walked past the bustle and arrived at a very quiet restaurant with a nicely situated dock overlooking some 30 and 40 foot cabin cruisers. This looked like a nice relaxing spot for a glass of wine and an appetizer, and after 8 miles of walking we would welcome both. We were greeted by our friendly hostess/waitress who invited us to take any table. She said if we wanted more shade, she would unfurl the table umbrella and did so at our request. We were promptly provided menus. Ice water with lemon appeared quickly thereafter. We ordered wine and chicken wings with a side of BBQ sauce and ranch. While awaiting our order, I checked out Yelp and was disappointed to see a 3-star rating. But throwing caution to the wind, we hoped for the best. And to our surprise we had a 5-star dining experience. The chicken wings were perfectly executed, very crispy skin and very juicy chicken. They were so good, we considered a 2nd round. Service was outstanding throughout our meal, kudos to our waitress Raeanna who was so attentive and cheerful throughout our visit. We would be delighted to have a repeat. read more

It wasn't too thick or too thin - loaded with fresh clams and potato's. I loved it. Their fish and chips were hot and delightful. Their chicken breast was chunky and cooked to perfection with some fun herbs. What i took notice of was the quality of their foods. The chef made an appearance or two to our table. Best restaurant in Newport! My mom and I were on a weekend trip and we were tired of all the same restaurants with the same menus. We looked at the menu for Saltwater and knew right away it wasn't like all of the other restaurants. Saltwater is trendy, open, laidback, and right on the water. We went on a Friday night and the sunset was incredible. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights and the band was incredible. It didn't take long to have a packed dance floor. We split a bottle of wine, salad and the Lobster flatbread (which was so good we considered ordering another). The molten cakes was the only disappointing part of the meal. Had one of those ($7) and split the Local Charcuterie Board ($18) - a large plate of three different cheeses, three meats, crackers, jam, honey, and breadsticks. A nice array of items - with the blue cheese and hard salami being my favorites. Bartender here is friendly, and manages to get around to everyone quickly. Overall good place compared to some of the other places we went although service can be slightly slow if it gets busy. Came here on a thursday night. Nice location, there was a decent crowd when we went there and few bar seats were available. The bartender was friendly. Got the salt water Bloody Mary and mojito. The Bloody Mary was good but the mojito was a tad bit too sweet for me. Got the salt water burger which was actually quite delicious, we were hungry as well and the home fries were pretty good. This review is about the outdoor bar, not the restaurant. We stopped by on Saturday night at 8:45. We were informed by the bartender that it was last call. I asked for a dirty martini and my request was met with an eye roll. We got our drinks (see picture) and they were the awful. There wasn't an olive to be found in my drink. My partner got an old fashioned that tasted like it had half a bottle of bitters in it. The bartender seemed more interested in chatting with his friends than serving his customers. The staff outside was fantastic, making sure the outdoor heaters were on and allowing us to order as the kitchen was closing. Visited Saltwater for my first time and ordered the crab fries, which (along with the rest of the food) was good, just not great. Wife and I first heard of this place while trying all the clam chowders and seafood at the Newport Seafood Festival. Of all the Chowders we tried, this was the only creamy one that was really savory that made us want to try out the joint. The wife and I finally came here during Restaurant week and we were not disappointed. On a Wednesday night, we came in at 1745 in November, during non-peak season and the place was empty. This is typical since we walked from Broadway and every restaurant was empty. So it was pretty cool and was really intimate for the wife and I. The service was top notch, the special menu of appetizer, entree and desert was $35 a person. I heard from friends that these deals might be small so I ordered the lobster flatbread to split with the wife to kick things off... I was wrong to order extra food, we were too stuffed to finish the dessert and ended up taking it home. The lobster flat bread was pretty awesome, lobster was nice and soft, not over cooked. There is a very heavy olive oil drizzle on the flatbread, so if you are not into olive oil, I would dry something else. If you like really cheesy, heavy, lobster style dishes, this is great. Wife and I loved it but it is super filling. We both got the clam chowder. The reason we like it so much is that it has fried onions on top with smoked pancetta which is even better than bacon... Its a really creamy New England clam chowder and heavy. Its prefect for a cold November night. I had the Filet Mignon (7oz) and the wife had the salmon on wild rice with shrimp scampi. Both were really well done but the salmon was the clear winner of the two. We had the special Saltwater special dessert. Its awesome, we had to eat it at home because we were too stuffed to eat it there. Great place to try, highly recommend it. The service was amazing, I would definitely come back. read more

I had Belgium waffles and asked for the local honey they advertised on menu but got a jar of Dickinsons like they serve at Cracker Barrel. The waffles were literally four bites, the two packets of butter beside them show the actual size and were $9. I know how much waffle mix costs. The choc chip pancakes were good. Terrible service and mediocre food - I would never eat here again. It took them three hours to bring my food out, and an hour to get us our check. We made a reservation for about 25 people well in advance. If they were not able to accommodate us, they should not have accepted the reservation. The restaurant was completely empty, as we were the only people eating there that night; yet, it took 3 hours for the food to come out. In that time, we drank. One woman got completely drunk just drinking on an empty stomach while waiting for her meal. The food itself was completely mediocre. My burger was cold, the crab fries were flavorless with a cheese sauce that was more water than cheese, and my date's pork burger was bland and a little gross. Besides the pretty view of the water and dock, the interior atmosphere is stale and cold. The room we sat in hardly felt inviting. It's a drab room with a nice view. At check-in my father-in-law and I were told there would be a breakfast Buffett, we were told that up to the morning of breakfast but when we went down to breakfast were quickly told there was no Buffett that you need to order of the restaurant menu. I ordered the breakfast BLT which came with home fries. The dish presentation was nice, but once you grabbed the sandwich you can feel that it was over greased and stale. The eggs and bacon are precooked. The sandwich was tasteless. The home fries were burnt, grease and raw. You take a bite into a potato and could taste that it was not cooked properly. I highly recommend not eating there. You can find quality food within walking distance to the hotel. After eating at Salt Water restaurant I spent the rest of the morning in the bathroom and feeling nauseated. read more

This restaurant definitely goes down as the worst restaurant experience I've had. Myself, girlfriend, and family came here around 2:30 on Tuesday for lunch. We felt it was the better option due to their signature Lobster Boil dish since no other restaurant in the area does a lobster boil like this. To start... Our server's response upon asking for this dish was "Let me see if we can make it." Which seems strange given this is a signature dish of the restaurant and they weren't even busy. Upon returning we ordered 2 lobster boils and a clam chowder. About 30 minutes into our wait my girlfriend's mother got up to ask the server why the food was taking to long, to which the server forgot we were even there. She sat there asking how many people to be seated like we were looking for a table. After waiting an hour (yes an hour) the food finally came to the table after complaining twice about the wait and even asking to see a manager. Everything on the plate was dry and rubbery. The soup had a dried film layer on top showing that it'd be sitting out for awhile, plus like many other yelpers have commented on, was salty. So now, after asking for a manager twice, a supervisor comes out. He tells us there's no actual manager there at the time and just apologizes and doesn't charge us for the meal. He took our number so that a manager could get in touch with us (which now 2 days later still hasn't happened) and we left. Best fried clams! While visiting my family in Rhode Island my one request is I have to have fried clams. We drove to Newport for the day and found it difficult to find fried clams, everybody had lobsters but not clams. I happened to stumble upon this restaurant and was thrilled see them on the menu. The service was also amazing! And the setting couldn't have been better. We were right on the water (behind glass, however) My hubby had the steel cut oats, and he loved every bite. The bartender charged me $48 for four beers. After questioning another bartender about their prices, he said that was clearly a mistake and had the other dude give me $20 back. Chose this restaurant because it was dog friendly. The dog was very happy. My husband and I, not so much. We were seated quickly but had to wait about 10 minutes before a server came over. This was a Sunday at 5:30pm. There were only 3 or 4 other occupied tables. He brings us water, takes our drink order and we wait another 10 to 15 minutes for a beer and a glass of wine. A different server brings our drinks and takes our food order. It takes forever. They served our sandwiches on worn cracked wooden boards. No thank you. I ate around anything that touched it. No one came back to see if we wanted another round of drinks. Eventually the original server showed up again and got us the check. Meanwhile we watch a middle aged drunk man spitting up his beer all over himself and the floor. If you are just looking to drink it's ok, but much better places to eat nearby. read more
