Good solid Mexican food in the heart of Newport RI. Walked into the store and ordered a steak burrito. The ordering process is similar to Chipotle where you can build your own burrito/tacos. There is no additional charge for sour cream or guacamole and the order comes with a side of chips. You can also ask for salsa on the side to see what spice level you would like. The Mexican rice is more of a yellow bland approach and the refried beans do not look or taste homemade but the steak was tender and flavorful. The service was a little disorganized but sufficient. The interior is more basic so would recommend to go orders.

Loaded Nacho Fries

The loaded chicken fries are an absolute must-try. it's generous enough to share but delicious enough you'll want to keep it all to yourself. Whether you're in for a cheat day treat or just something satisfying and indulgent, these loaded chicken fries deliver on every level. You a load them with whatever you're craving and if you don't pay attention you'll walk right past this place.

Absolutely delicious and fresh food! We enjoyed lunch at Caliente today and everything was perfect. Service was friendly and efficient behind the counter. The menu had plenty of choices and wow, it was delicious and very reasonably priced! It's on Thames street, near Wally's Wieners and across from a Public parking lot.

Great selection. Great food. Favorites are fish tacos and the California bowl. Best food I've had in Rhode Island.

Do you not put cheese on your quesadillas? This is the second time I have had a pork quesadillia delivered without cheese?

We mentioned we were interested in trying Cru and he told us we wouldn't be disappointed. The next day we went and though there was still a line, it went quickly. We ordered the Irish Breakfast Burrito, a side of bacon and potato hash, a sugar cookie, an apple hand pie, and an orange juice. The burrito was big enough to share (which we did) and was delicious! Big chunks of corned beef, eggs, cheese and potatoes. Did not disappoint! The OJ was fresh squeezed and just right. The bacon and potato hash was good, but a bit salty. I would have liked more chunky potatoes, but that's just me, my sister enjoyed them and they were tasty. Their cookies (you definitely need to get one!) are cut in half and filled with a buttercream filling and then the end is dipped in chocolate. They were so soft and the amount of buttercream was just right, not making it overly sweet. And they had so many different flavors of cookies it was hard to decide on just one. The Apple hand pie was perfect! The crust was nice and flaky without falling apart. The apples had just the right sweetness. I really debated about getting the blueberry muffin because we already had so much food. I definitely missed out on that. The lady next to us got one and she said it was delicious. (We got ours to-go because we knew we wouldn't have room after breakfast). Parking can be hit or miss, we lucked out and found a spot in the small lot. There is paid parking in the larger lot next door or you might be able to find parking on the street. It's definitely worth finding a spot to eat here. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It's a cute spot to eat. We didn't have lunch there, but their lunch menu looked amazing and if it's as good as their breakfast, it's worth a visit.

It's a small, cozy spot with just a few tables and countertop seating, plus a couple of outdoor tables that are dog-friendly. The truffle mac & cheese may be one of the best vegan mac & cheeses I've had in a really long time. So creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. The cauliflower bites were another favorite--fresh, crunchy little nuggets tossed perfectly in honey mustard. I originally thought the sauce would come on the side for dipping, but I actually loved that they were coated so evenly. So good! Hubby had the Rubenesque sandwich, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. There was also a steady stream of people picking up online orders and grabbing food to go, which definitely made us feel like this is a local favorite. I'd definitely recommend grabbing a meal here, or taking it to go for a beach picnic or to enjoy at one of Newport's scenic spots. And if you're looking for coffee and heading out of Newport, seriously recommend Simple Merchant House. We stopped there right before Sprout & Lentil, and again as we were leaving Newport on our last day. After lunch, we looped back into Newport to visit The Breakers and Marble House, making for such a fun day.

Smaller shared parking lot to be mindful of here. Very welcoming staff that provided a great overview of the menu, drinks, made to take items and weekly specials. Casual relaxed atmosphere here with some music jamming in the background. Window bar seating if you are on your own or tables for four if meeting for a quick lunch bite. Started with a small chili which was fresh and full of flavor. For the main went with the Tuesday special with the recommended fish tacos (hearts of palm layered with nori flakes, crisp grated carrot, and shredded purple cabbage and a sliced jalapeño. Crispy tortilla with side of beans and rice). You can add a fresh pico and guac for additional prices, had both and were delicious! Assortment of drinks in the fridge along with some premade items (staff said it is rotational items and prepped earlier in the week if you want to max your options). After eating here can see what all the buzz was for a standout vegan option on island. A group came in after me and ordered a pizza that looked awesome as well. Will be back to try more of the menu when able!!

From the moment you walk in, the place is spotless. The windows practically sparkle, the bathrooms are arguably the cleanest in Newport (a detail that never goes unnoticed), and the décor? Absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship alone, especially the woodwork is worth admiring before you even glance at the menu. Speaking of which, the food is consistently excellent, but what truly sets Jo's apart is the service. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, yet incredibly attentive. It feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into someone's home, if that someone also happens to serve fantastic meals. The staff are genuinely warm, friendly, and engaging. You can tell they enjoy what they do, they're laughing, smiling, and connecting with guests in a way that feels authentic. That kind of culture starts from the top, so hats off to the management for creating such a positive environment. Thank you again for another amazing dinner, I'm already looking forward to my next visit this fall.

The ambiance is lovely, with warm lighting that's not too dim to read the menu and beautiful woodwork. That's where the good parts end. The White Lotus cocktail I had was downright disgusting on first sip, but managed to perk up a bit with a stir. This is not an Aperol problem, I could honestly drink that stuff straight. I don't know what the used as a float on the top but it was not good. I left it on the table half full. My husband ordered the Blood Orange Bourbon Smash and it was fine. Tasted like a cup of bourbon. While it is nice that the rolls arrive warm, they're pretty obviously frozen ciabatta rolls reheated served with unsalted butter in plastic containers à la your continental breakfast at the Days Inn. The beef carpaccio that gave me heart eyes when I spotted it on the menu was uninspired and dry. The beef was not cut into pieces that made for easy eating and there was no acid in the dish to speak of. What a disappointment. My cod was beaten to death in the frying pan. Some of the driest fish I've eaten in a long time. The advertised romesco sauce is only on the focaccia slice, which really could have saved that over cooked fish. Somehow the clams were perfectly cooked, so that was nice. Everything needed salt, and I'm unaccustomed to giant globs of whole tomatoes being served with my seafood dishes. Just a really odd plate of food. Husband's orecchiette with ground sausage was also under flavored. Where's the red pepper flake? Sauce honestly tasted like it came out of a Hunts can. Made me miss my jar of Rao's. Look, maybe this place was great in the 80s and 90s when the majority of people smoked and it just exists on nostalgia? I am completely flummoxed by the long list of positive reviews. My dog is going to be delighted by my fish leftovers. Again, full credit to the staff who were lovely, but what is going on in that kitchen.

We had reservations for 6PM but arrived shortly after 5PM. They were gracious enough to accommodate us immediately. Our server was friendly & attentive but very inexperienced. My friend ordered Salmon Piccata & she had no idea what that was... she thought it was served with scallops & pasta! We had to explain that Piccata was a sauce with capers; again, she didn't know what capers were. Fortunately, the kitchen understood the order & my friend received the correct dish. Unfortunately, the ends of the salmon were dry & inedible. However, she did enjoy most of the fish & the sides (mashed & veg), and there was enough to bring home. She also had a cider cocktail which, with the sugared rim, was a little too sweet. She would have liked a bit more cider, too. I had the patty melt with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was large & very good. I'm not a huge fan of thick-cut sweet potato fries; if I had known I probably would have opted for another side, as there's a $3 upcharge. The pickle was fantastic! I also had a glass of J. Lohr Cab, which was a good sized pour for $11. Prices were reasonable. Parking is always an issue in Newport. There is metered street parking & paid lots. Beware, parking is diligently monitored & tickets are $60!
