Best quality authentic portuguese restaurant in Fall River. I've been there many times and have never disappointed.

We were referred to Sangres by an Azorean man. What a find. We arrived for a late lunch and settled into a corner table. Our server was enthusiastic and efficient. Portuguese soup warmed my man's body. We loved the little necks in a garlicky sauce. Our cod dish was savory and sublime. We had a house red served with a generous pour. Bread was good but would be better warmed. By 5:00 pm the place was jammed! Delish!!! read more

Victor and his team do a wonderful job highlighting very fresh ingredients with a Portuguese technique and taste that screams authenticity. The Grilled Octopus is so succulent, tender, and flavorful...its rich and light and so freaking GOOD!!! Clams were awesome, and the Paella was served Family Style in a rice pot...fresh and plentiful. Might have been even better as it cooled and came together. Was looking for the typical paella crispy bottom rice- no dice. Very Tasty Grilled Chicken- again nice char, good seasoning, tender and juicy. Sagres has earned its reputation, and revived the restaurant scene in Fall River. This restaurant was a great choice! I normally wouldn't venture to Fall River but I'd definitely go back for this place. I went for a family dinner on a weeknight. It was busy but not overly crowded. All the seats were occupied and there was occasionally people waiting to be seated. We got there a little early for our reservation so we sat at the bar and ordered a couple drinks. The bar is really big and roomy and the bartender was really friendly. The restaurant is decorated very simply but tastefully. I like the lights hanging inside and outside of the restaurant. The food was excellent. I ordered the Bacalhou which is potatoes, shredded cod, olive oil, seasonings and egg. I also tried my boyfriend's paella which was to die for. There was so much fish in the paella including a generous piece of lobster. All the meals but especially the paella could be shared. The servings are huge. We ended up just taking half home for lunch the next day. I can't wait to go back to try something else on the menu. read more

Went with 6 people with reservations at 7:30 they put us a table for 4 with my wife sitting under a light. We asked for a larger table and the owner or just was real rude not our fault you oversold they tables. Appetizer chourico was good shrimp were tiny and flavorless. We ordered 2 steaks both overcooked and cold 1 octopus which was good. One mariscada they served Calderon instead. We drove 30 miles for pure disappointment. Service was rude ad slow. Never got water and the dirty Marino had a fly in it. And waitress was trying to tell us it wasn't Don't waste your time. read more

Wow I'm not sure there's better Portuguese cuisine in the area, I've been here several times and NEVER less than excellent. Big props to Victor and his staff, doing great work as usual putting out great food at a terrific value. I had the Portuguese steak, can't help it I grew up in the area and anytime I get back I usually get this delicious. My wife enjoyed the chicken Assado a little zip to it but wonderful, I had to try it of course. My friends had the Monk Fish and the Paelha careful with these items they are HUGE and probably best suited as a shared meal 1 could have fed both, both delicious. We started with apps of goat cheese yum and the little neck clams in a garlic broth wow do they go great with the fresh Portuguese rolls. I would have given them 5 stars but the waiter missed the mark a couple times, not a tragedy but he could have been more on his game, very pleasant though. read more

I was looking for authentic Portuguese food (I'm from the main land) and took the hour and a half drive to this place and was not disappointed!!! Everything was delicious! The fresh goats cheese was like butter! Grilled octopus and caldo verde were on point! My son had a "jr" Portuguese beef and it was perfectly cooked medium and my husband had a seafood rice dish. Was back in the "Riv" visiting family and had a hankering for Portuguese food. The place close to me was closed for vacation so I drove to another place, was also closed! I gave Sagres a call and they were open so off I went with family in tow. I hadn't been here since the remodel and I was impressed with how nice it is inside. I said to my mom, the old place was in the basement right? She said no it just was really dark. The new place is bright and open. We were seated right away, party of 5. Was lunch so not crowded and our server was right there for drink orders. We ordered some bacalhua and Portuguese steaks. Steak was very good. Spiced perfectly and tasty. Bucalhua was baked nicely. Hands down the BEST restaurant! Every single dish is amazing. The seafood is so fresh, the wine selection is great, and the ambience is perfect. Well after eating here many times this is now my favorite Portuguese restaurant by far. It takes me almost 2 hours to get here but its well worth the drive but I pair it with a trip to portugalia market and load up on Portuguese foods before i head home. After going again last night I am giving them 3 stars. My family was here from out of the country, and when they arrived 3 months ago, we promised them that the day before they went home, we would take them to Sagres, for the best Portuguese food on the planet!! They were so excited and looking forward to it. After not being able to get a reservation on Saturday night, we had to settle for a Sunday night. The bread was cold. The shrimp Mozambique appetizer was extremely watered down and overly acidic. I was so disappointed because that is our favorite dish. The chorizo was ok. We ordered a 40$ pitcher of red sangria, which we always order from them. It had ONE slice of lemon in it and it was so watered down that instead of being a dark red, it was a light pink. I could not taste any alcohol. When our dinner came, the rice was cold and so were the fries, cold and soggy our relatives ordered the Mariscada and the Paella. My aunt was so full from the appetizers that she asked to take her leftovers home. She only had a little bit of the rice and wanted to eat the rest at home. When she got home, I was so disgusted and disappointed to see that someone from the Sagres kitchen STOLE the ENTIRE LOBSTER. Who does that? That is so rude. She was so disappointed. My family comes to Sagres at least 1x a week and this year we were going to have our corporate parties at Sagres..... but I don't think I'll ever come back. read more

Fianlly made it there. Parking is a bit tricky. We went early to beat crowds. We had the Portuguese steak. It was cooked well, great flavor and very tender. I liked having the eggs on top, however they were cooked over hard, would've preferred over easy or soft. Yep he rice was good, the fries were a bit different. Unfortunately, I have to say my experience wasn't pleasant at this place. Overall until the end the server was very polite and provided a good service . But at he end, we kind of got kicked out of the table. Simply the old man came over and had the busboy clean out the the table and told him that we were done. The worst treatment I have ever had in any restaurant. Food was good but I believe we can find another Portuguese restaurant with good food and hopefully a more polite staff. We were not there not even a hour and half. We had cocktails, main courses, espresso and dessert. We know how to dine. Yet this place is not for sure this place for us. RUDE! You see, homegirl just got a call and found out her images had been stolen from the cloud and used by numerous catfish. Her good looks and greater value had been taken by schemers and dreamers wishing' they could be yo girl. Homegirl cannot be duplicated. She is a fine wine woman in the cellars of the wealthy. Homegirl is rarely in a dispairing mood. She was only ever in such a head space when the snowstorm of '99 hit, preventing you girl to take the Heli to Paris Fashion Week. You see before Naomi Campbell walked the runways, she was Homegirls back up, I.C.E. Homegirls falsies were ungluing with all the tears. She knew of only one thing to lift her spirits. Octopus. Homegirl beckoned her driver, and requested the finest octopus money can buy. She was driven to Sagres where the grilled octopus was special. Her legs were lame with grief. Now homegirl had to be brought in like the New Testament paralytic in Capernaum, lifted and lowered through the ceiling. Any small business knows a hole in the ceiling is a small price to pay to have homegirl as their guest. Homegirls pulse was dropping. Her face grew pale. Time was fleeting. Homegirls laid on the ground covered in her Burberry wrap as her eyes closed. A singular bite of octopus was placed past her lucious lips. She chewed once. She chewed twice. She beckoned for more as her strength was slowly restored. The onion, the char grilled tentacles were both crispy and tender. Händel Messiah's Hallelujah Chorus rang through the room as homegirls wilted body blossomed from the depths of despair. Homegirl had been nourished, her sorrows were no more. She had finished her entire octopus dish with potatoes. Not a scrap remained. She licked the corners of her red lined lips in hopes a flavor morsel had been missed. Homegirl knows them internet trolls got nothing on her curvaceous bod. They can steel all the pictures they want but no online image compares to the magnificence of homegirl in living color. She wishes she hadn't taken a downward spiral for her to come to this realization, but she is overjoyed that her sorrows led her to the ultimate grilled octopus dish. Her countered chin is held high. She no longer fears a stolen selfie. She knows her chiseled cheeks are the ones that can't be beat. read more

The steak was overcooked and flavorless. There's definitely potential. The waiters were great, attentive and the place is so cute. For the price that I'm paying to eat in Fall River, this place should be worthy of 5 stars. Very expensive! Our bill for 3 people for lunch before tip and tax was $70+. If you want to try Portuguese food you must try Sagres. Many people on Chowhound New England board knows Sagres and recommend it and now I can tell you it's worth going. After Battleship Cove and hanging around Fall River we went to Sagres for dinner. FREE Portuguese bread that are huge round things. Comes w/ generic soft butter. We ordered: Caldo Verde soup -small cup full of greens & potatoes -tasty. mocambique shrimp -under appetizers, good to share for 3-4 ppl. Tasty sauce & shrimp. Portugese style steak and egg (friend liked ok) Pork and Littleneck clams -lots of chunks of pork, lots of cubed potatoes, not enough Littlenecks - only about 5. Good sauce & full of garlic. Portuguese flan - tasted fine. $4.5 Huge portions, everyone liked their dish. Credit cards taken. Woman toilet/sink up in higher dining area. Men in lower dining area. Doors: Seem to have door #177 & 181 for entrances. Total Before tip was $91, you could do it cheaper by ordering less stuff. read more

I went today for Easter with my family. Although the food was great and my waiter was great, I was shocked to see how the owner treated a large table near me. This is the owner that is at the entrance when we usually go. The owner went to the large party and stated that they were behind because that table only called a week ago for a reservation and that table needs to call at least a month ahead. The owner was extremely rude to this family and I was shocked. I even thought it was in a joking manner, but it absolutely was not. To blame patrons for how backed up you are is not acceptable in any manner. The table was stunned and I felt horrible for them. If the reservation was a problem the owner or whomever took the reservation could have not accepted the reservation. As dinner continued I saw the owner come BACK to the table and asked if the table was all set because he has 40 people waiting outside for a table. The family was wonderful at the table and I felt horrible because they had just ordered their dessert. Again, our service was fine and the food was good. But if this is how the owner is to some patrons, I will not be returning because who knows when it will be my turn to be treated like this. read more

I was hoping that when Sagres returned they would come back with a vengeance. I was mistaken, went there recently with family, the food was mediocre, and service was slow and/inattentive. There are a lot of teenagers working, maybe related I don't know, but they were mostly concerned with their phone notifications then customers. Also, it seemed that the manager/owner wasn't concerned with it so that just reinforces this poor customer service routine. Neither of my parents were born in this country so I think I am qualified to state that this is very authentic Azorean food. I haven't had a single thing on their menu that I didn't like. Recently, due to the pandemic, I ordered door dash, since my husband was working and I didn't want to cook. The food came prompt and was warm and incredibly delicious.
