    Atmosphere

This review is just for the bar. I came with a friend for a glass of wine and to check out the ambience with the thought of potentially returning another time for dinner. We sat at the bar and I was immediately impressed they had the little hooks for bags underneath- major points there. Seating and service was fine. The red wine I had, which was $14 by the glass, was not bad, but was served chilled, which is not what I enjoy when drinking red wines. It would be nice if this was noted on the wine list. When we visited, there was just one other couple dining at the tables here and a couple folks at the bar. Aside from the chilled red wine, I really did not enjoy the music they were playing which was mostly Frank Sinatra at what seemed a higher than average volume for this type of music. Maybe this is popular with the over 70 crowd, but definitely not what I wanted to listen to while catching up with my friend. It would be nice if they changed to classical, jazz or instrumental music, which would be more conducive to conversation. The atmosphere is kind of a country chic decor. I was not overly impressed and am not likely to return here. Although the food looked good, entrees were in the $30 range, and at that price point, an enjoyable atmosphere, including music, is important.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could... absolutely incredible food, service, and ambiance. All the staff and owners are so kind/accommodating/welcoming. We've also gotten takeout that was phenomenal. The focaccia and Andrea pasta dish are top tier. I tell everyone about Viola and I would come every week if I was able... so so good!!! Can't say enough good things.

We went for my birthday, and while I didn't take a ton of photos both the cocktails and the food we absolutely amazing. A hidden gem!

Wow! I admittedly read zero reviews of this restaurant before I agreed to try it with a friend on a last minute girls night. We (mistakenly) didn't make a reservation but the owner, Don, was able to seat us at the bar despite being busy. The bartender-Zach was phenomenal and was so knowledgeable of the menu. As others have said, this place is an absolute gem! The ambiance, the drinks, and the FOOD, oh my the food! I will dream about the focaccia bread. Do yourself a favor and try this place (and make a reservation!)...I don't see how you could be disappointed.

Start to finish this is a gem of a restaurant. The space is tight so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner this might not be your thing, but if you are looking for a lively vibe with great food and cocktails this is the place. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the food they serve. I started with an Italian take on a Manhattan, which was spot on. We tried the seafood salad app special which was fresh and delicious. It contained shrimp, scallops, and squid perfectly dressed with EVVO and tangy vinegar. The portions were large and although on the pricey side offered good value for the quality. The star of the show was the bone in veal parm. A 14-ounce veal chop pounded thin and pan-fried with bread crumbs. The right amount of sauce complemented the crispiness of the veal. I'm looking forward to having the leftovers tonight! Barrington is lucky to have Viola Cucina as would any community wanting great food.

New favorite Italian restaurant in the area! Viola is a very warm and charming small restaurant. We have been here a handful of times since they have opened, and have had a consistent wonderful experience each time. Every meal on their menu is delicious, fresh and flavorful. Their staff are always incredibly friendly and professional.

Donnie (our host) and John (the chef) of this amazing gem in East Bay have brought five star dining to our backyard. The food was a 10. The service was a 10. The ambiance was a 10. You can tell you are in an amazing place when the staff, from the manager to the buss crew , is clearly proud of what they put on the table. The place is small, so reservations are advised. Folks, don't miss this place. It will blow you away.

Amazing new Italian spot in Barrington. We came here early on a weekend evening. The ambiance inside is quite lovely. We got pasta with burrata, pasta with fresh sea food and the chicken scarpariello. Everything tasted delicious, though the pasta with the burrata was the best one. The chicken scarpariello was spicy and very good. The chicken was tender and cooked perfectly; the only thing missing was the polenta. We also got a caesar salad that was very good. For dessert, we got the spumoni and salted caramel ice cream. The caramel ice cream was phenomenal. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Seating is somewhat limited, so it's prob better to make reservations. Overall it was a great experience.

Our 2nd time at Viola and it was better than the 1st. The food is amazing! Ali is a delight and great bartender and doesn't steer you wrong with your food choices. ( highly doubt there's a bad choice on the whole menu). We love the atmosphere and restaurant as a whole, very cozy and comfortable. Can't wait to come back!

We came to check out Violas after reading tons of great reviews. Staff was very nice. We got calamari for an appetizer very well-made nice thick pieces fried perfectly. I got the chicken Parmesan, which was not on the menu, but I guess they can make it anytime, and my husband got a chicken dish over risotto. I wasn't overly impressed, it was not a knock it out of the park Italian restaurant. The chicken Parm was very basic not something I would go back for. My husband's dish was OK, I think we were just expecting more from reviews, especially since in Rhode Island, there are tons and tons of amazing Italian restaurants. Maybe there's not much up this way like there is down around us and people are overly impressed.

Then came the destination: at first, I doubted myself because I thought I was just looking at a bakery. When I pulled into the parking lot and opened the front door, I finally began to understand what "hole-in-the-wall" truly meant. Not only was the family ownership and honest-to-goodness service in place the minute I entered, but the sampling of lightly-seasoned bread with olive oil was the definitive way to begin dinner. When I came here last weekend with my stepbrother and his gf, I had finished a workout earlier that day, so the idea of a chicken parm dished mixed with bolognese sauce sounded killer; all of us had ordered that exact dish! Boy, was my hunch trustworthy. A comforting mix of seasonings, a breading with a well-done crispness around the edges, and a quality of meat that felt wholesome without being overbearing were the elements that comprised a hearty serving of cheese-stuffed ravioli. The following Saturday, my mother and stepfather were more than happy to reserve seating (when you're a small restaurant with a penchant for legendary cooking, even the weekdays are bound to be packed). While my mother gorged on a plain chicken parm and my old man was enthused with his seafood platter, I dove into creamy pink vodka sauce and smoky sweet Italian sausage. The bacon-y flavor of the sausage complemented the sharp cheesiness of the broth, culminating in a spectacle of flavors that never stopped short of excellence. While the Nutella-filled egg dessert I had on the first day was nice, I was told that most of the offerings provided in the bakery were crafted by a Boston-based confectioner. What was homemade, however, was a fruity pie carefully designed and baked by the proprietor's wife. The crostata, as it was called, tasted just as scrumptious as the description of apples and raspberries and gooey gelato that I had been provided. One of the reasons I support small is because there's no conglomerate overreach to corrupt the flavors a competitive small-town scene can offer, which Spaghetti Lane perfectly embodied. When Mike the founder had been so uplifted by vocal enthusiasm for his business, he was generous to provide me with a Spaghetti Lane-branded shirt. I told him he truly did not have to offer such a generous gift, but I thanked him nonetheless afterward. I must also point out the ambience of the restaurant. The place was comprised of two dining rooms: one of which leaned into the elegance of Italian spirits stacked neatly on shelves and the hypersonic drift of Italo Disco filling the air, the other was a contemporary-style cafe setting with a dessert cashier and a giant cabinet lined with cannoli, cheesecake, and whoopie pies. For some reason, my soul lit up when I heard the Umberto Tozzi version of "Gloria" as I was chomping on my penne. Now that's a vibe. That's my TED Talk. Thank you, everyone!

They have a daily menu, and I've had some friends suggest this place as their favorite restaurant. We parked blocks away due to the lack of adequate parking. Once we walked in, we were greeted with pleasant smiles from the staff. The menu was short, which we attributed to a focus on quality. We ordered a French onion dip and a littleneck entree as an app for the table. We were served with lukewarm water, neither cold nor hot. The apostle John might have been somewhat disappointed (Rev 3:16). The dip was decent but was somewhat lacking in great onion flavor. But nothing to complain about. The little necks were served in a small bowl and lacked a bit of salt. Rather pricey for $26, but this place charges $6 just for bread and butter, so maybe it's just inflation? Enter the entrees. They apparently were short on chicken legs so they asked to substitute chicken breast. Two of us got burgers. First the $20 burgers, which were served with an aioli with no offer of ketchup or other condiments. In short, both burgers were terrible. Far worse than we make at home. It's always a disappointment when you realize you're paying all this extra for food you can make better at home. The buns were shockingly flat, like someone smashed them by hand. Or in a McDonald's box. Come to think of it, the flavor was similar, though overall the hamburger was somewhat bitter, salty and lacked an appetizing flavor. Wow. We all agreed they were terrible. The fries were also burnt and over salted. My daughter quit on her $30 chicken, so I tried it. The sauce wasn't bad, and it was served with a decent brocollini. But the chicken was some of the driest I've had in a restaurant, with no crisp skin and a uniformly poor texture. No wonder no one finished their entrees. And I hate wasting food. So, as much as we would have wanted to give this place a great rating, we just won't be back. The service, although with a smile, was slow and terrible. Our candle burnt out in the middle of dinner. It was never relit. Our glasses were empty halfway through dinner. No refills on the tepid water. The entrees took an hour and a half before they came out (we were warned the chicken could take 30 min). Generally a very disappointing experience. Hard to explain the rave reviews but our Saturday dinner was a sad bust. The cold wet madeleines they provided in a doggie bag didn't do anything to help. Oh well. Hope y'all have a better experience if you go here.

We were having a lovely dinner in Warren and stopped into Bywater for a quick after-dinner drink. It was a bit cooler out but since they had no seats in the extremely limited bar area, we took the plunge and sat outside near their fire pits. They did not have many wines to choose from BTG which was disappointing. The one I had which was Cinsault was just ok. I had to dump out most of it since I did not enjoy it but that was my fault since sampling it I thought I liked it. My friend had the bartender make her a cocktail with grapefruit since they did not have pineapple. She was looking for a French martini but seemed to enjoy what they made her. My husband's espresso martini was very good I thought and light but could've used some bailey's. We already had dessert so we did not plan on anything else but I know I am interested in returning for dinner. The restaurant is very small inside but I loved the warm lights and decor. It was a very sexy and attractive vibe! If you are ever in Warren I highly recommend coming here for either drinks, dinner, or both. Dress warm if you plan on heading outside to sit near the fire...it does not give off that much heat! Cheers!

I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry.

I ordered their salad (originally out of "obligation" to assuage my nutritional guilt) & an enjoyed a gorgeous burger. Both were wonderful--the salad was really fresh and flavorful and paired so well with the burger's savory decadence. My partner ordered a cup of clam chowder, which she thought was excellent, and the same tasty burger. We both received very generous portions we were unable to finish. Service was friendly and allergy-aware. They had a coat check, which was a nice touch given our many layers in March. Staff were solicitous and plentiful. Spoke with at least one manager...maybe 2? Food is adventurous & bold; memorable meals over the years: Fried Goat cheese with charcuterie meats, manchego cheese & french bread, have to do The Bocado Experience for 2 or 4, Jamon Iberico, Pato (duck pastrami w sherry glaze), tuna poke, atun de bocado (seared yellowfin saku tuna), braised pork belly, Spanish octopus, mussels in cream sc, twin mini Kobe style beef burgers, venison, fried calamari, lollipop lamb chops, seared beef tenderloin, classic paella & Paella de Mariscos, & baked flan for dessert. Just so fascinating - their chefs can put out such tasty small plates so quickly, each packed with such fresh & exciting flavors, always cooked to perfection (never over or under cooked). Get the sangria pitchers, bar is always packed & hopping. Dining room just got a refresh, but was beautiful even before with a great atmosphere also. Our least favorite was the rabbit (way too many small bones to pick out).

The ambiance was cozy and inviting, though our table was in the middle of the aisle which felt a bit cramped. Unfortunately, the service itself was inconsistent. We had to ask for bread three times. When we ordered two brownies and one coffee, we were brought one brownie and two coffees. At the end of the meal, we asked for both my meal and my son's meal to be wrapped to go. My son's plate was accidentally thrown away because other plates were stacked on top of it. When I asked about it, the server explained what happened but did not offer to remake it, remove it from the bill, or apologize, which was disappointing. That said, it was a busy Friday during Restaurant Week, so I would consider coming back and hope the service is smoother next time. While writing this review, I actually received a text from the restaurant letting me know we left our son's plate behind, which was thoughtful and appreciated. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give 3.5.
