I have been blessed to eat in over 40 countries and this is one of my favorite restaurants for the food, vibe, drinks and the incredible management. Unpretentious but sophisticated, cozy and delightful. Thank you Katie and Brian for this jewel.

6 oysters, scup crudo, black bass crudo
    Eugene W.

Crudo ($12 each): We got black bass, which was covered in this amazing peach (?) blanket thing and also had a touch of bone mayo. Absolutely delicious. The scup was also amazing. It had a really rich and almost fermented-tasting topping. Really nice pairings all around. The fish tasted very, very fresh. Oysters ($10/6): Normally, a half dozen oysters is $20. Luckily, we visited on half off Monday! This was such an amazing deal. The oysters were huge. They were so smooth. The hot sauce and the fruity jam they gave us were both A+. Wild Harmony Pork ($31): The pork was DELICIOUS. The seared exterior was extremely rich and flavorful, melting perfectly into the layer of exquisitely rendered fat, melting perfectly into the rest of the meat. Flavor upon flavor upon flavor. I love the creativity with the turnip/cara cara/horseradish. I've never tasted something like this pairing, and yet it works so well. The cara cara really complements the flavors in the pork. The horseradish really complements the texture of the cara cara, adding a little crunchiness to the softness of the cara cara. Finally, the turnip provides a base to bring it all together. Cookie Sandwich ($6): A great way to end the meal. You get 2 cookie sandwiches per order. I loved the infused shortbread and the filling. $6 is a pretty fair price for this. My favorites were the oysters and crudo. The pork came in a close second. The dessert was good, but not a must-have. Lastly, their service was fantastic. The servers were very attentive. We were sitting outside by a fire pit, and not many other tables were seated outside since it was a cold day. The servers still made sure to come by very frequently. They truly hit 5* in every aspect.

We had to visit Bywater after seeing that they received a James Beard nomination for Outstanding Restaurant. The space is quite small, yet quaint and intimate. While waiting for our 7pm reservation on a Friday, several parties came in as walk-ins and wee unfortunately turned away because how busy they were, so make a reservation! The menu is small, but well-curated. There wasn't anything we had that we did not like. My personal favorite dishes were the crab dip and pork.

This place is incredible! I've been here once before for oysters but regret not coming back since then. The menu is limited and simple, yet each dish is exquisitely made, tastes so fresh and has so much flavor. We got the falling for sours and the old fashioned drinks. The former was light and refreshing. For food, we got the pickled vegetables, the beet salad and the fluke. They also have their own sodas for 6$. The pickled vegetables were pretty good; def interesting and different. The beet salad was made beautifully. Loved the addition of yoghurt along with the fennel seeds for crunchiness. We also got a complementary plate of crudo which was amazing. The freshness of the fish along with the olive oil/lemon dressing was marvelous. The best was kept for the last, which was the charcoal grilled fluke. It was easily one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly and everything in the dish complemented the fish so very well. Overall, really good experience. Would recommend coming here if you're in the Warren area. The menu definitely leans predominantly towards seafood. Also, it took a little while for the food to come out but the wait makes the food better somehow.

This was one of the best meals I have had in a very very long time. All of the ingredients are sourced locally, which makes the food even more delicious! The menu rotates frequently, so I can't guarantee all of these plates will be available when you go!! However- You cannot go wrong with any of the crudos. We did the black bass it was delightful. Cucumber salad came out next, the flavors were ridiculous. Then we did the squash and crab, and the whole roasted fluke. You have an option to get shishito peppers with any of the roasted fish and I highly recommend you do so. If you can get there ASAP- order the Japanese cheesecake- it has husk cherries which are only in season for a short period of time. It was spectacular. I am usually not a fan of cheese cake but when I saw it on their Instagram I could tell it would have more of a flan like texture. It was so freaking good. I was so full by the end of it all but I could have eaten another it was that good. In summary... don't walk- run to Bywater. It is that good.

Our meal at Bywater was incredible. The staff are accommodating and kind, and the interior was intimate and chic. Our oysters are some of the best we've had in RI, and the crab dip toast was insanely good. The James Beard nom is well deserved.

Sourdough baguette, spice roll and gingerbread muffin

Went back. Strong coffee, croissants were delicious (but also seemed a little crispy) and the rhubarb, chamomile coffee cake was more of a muffin, but wonderful nonetheless. Staff was very friendly and the cafe has indoor and outdoor seating.

    Spice roll
    Nicole G.

This review is for the Bakeshop @ Bywater. Today I had my first spice roll. It was Dionysian delight with high quality cinnamon, subtle notes of peppery adjacent bite and the tang of citrus. The naturally leavened pastry dough is flaky lightness without the heavy doughy texture of flour and chemical enhancers. You close your eyes and dream of that morning along the Seine in your imagination as you peel it apart and slow yourself down while eating. Like many things Bywater, it is the best cinnamon roll in the East Bay. Order using their square site via the Insta account. Order early. This is a special treat not to be missed!

Personnel: Hostess Jules absolutely amazing I just flew in from San Diego and found this spot. She was able to squeeze me in at the bar and even recommended a few items which were amazing. Jeff bartender took my drink orders and food orders. He was super busy but attentive and got the orders in quickly. And attended to my drink orders instantly. Other customers to left and right of me started conversations with me. Customers that come seem very friendly and welcoming like the staff. Location: Small location Great atmosphere. Not too loud. I would say it's good for couples or groups of 4. I would say always book a reservation but especially with a group 4-8 hit definitely need reservations. Drinks: To drink I had 2 different white wines Forgot to write these down. But both very good. The mixed drinks I saw Jeff make looked amazing and reactions from other customers looked very pleased with what they got. Defiantly will try when I am back. Food: Ordered the oysters and clams Very fresh plump. Clean and tasty. Ordered the mushrooms and onions Rich soup many layers of flavor. Kept saying wow every scoop. Must get!! Squid Cacio e Pepe Amazing thinly sliced squid mixed in with the pasta. Amazing umami of flavor. For me or I would say to share a half order is good. Definitely need to add other dishes to try. Everything here has been an absolute hit. I don't think you can order anything bad. ( definitely want to try the lamb Carpaccio and the steamed little necks next time.) Crudo amazing each plate has its unique taste. It's a plater of flavors . Very fresh local fish. Fluke Tilefish Scallop Mackerel To finish: Desert was amazing with like a sponge like cake topped with nuts. Not overly sweet but packed with flavors My first time in RI and this place has set the bar really high. I will definitely be back here again

Soaring through the…read morestreets of Warren and Swansea, flanked by woods and water, were just the beginning of a magical experience. Then came the destination: at first, I doubted myself because I thought I was just looking at a bakery. When I pulled into the parking lot and opened the front door, I finally began to understand what "hole-in-the-wall" truly meant. Not only was the family ownership and honest-to-goodness service in place the minute I entered, but the sampling of lightly-seasoned bread with olive oil was the definitive way to begin dinner. When I came here last weekend with my stepbrother and his gf, I had finished a workout earlier that day, so the idea of a chicken parm dished mixed with bolognese sauce sounded killer; all of us had ordered that exact dish! Boy, was my hunch trustworthy. A comforting mix of seasonings, a breading with a well-done crispness around the edges, and a quality of meat that felt wholesome without being overbearing were the elements that comprised a hearty serving of cheese-stuffed ravioli. The following Saturday, my mother and stepfather were more than happy to reserve seating (when you're a small restaurant with a penchant for legendary cooking, even the weekdays are bound to be packed). While my mother gorged on a plain chicken parm and my old man was enthused with his seafood platter, I dove into creamy pink vodka sauce and smoky sweet Italian sausage. The bacon-y flavor of the sausage complemented the sharp cheesiness of the broth, culminating in a spectacle of flavors that never stopped short of excellence. While the Nutella-filled egg dessert I had on the first day was nice, I was told that most of the offerings provided in the bakery were crafted by a Boston-based confectioner. What was homemade, however, was a fruity pie carefully designed and baked by the proprietor's wife. The crostata, as it was called, tasted just as scrumptious as the description of apples and raspberries and gooey gelato that I had been provided. One of the reasons I support small is because there's no conglomerate overreach to corrupt the flavors a competitive small-town scene can offer, which Spaghetti Lane perfectly embodied. When Mike the founder had been so uplifted by vocal enthusiasm for his business, he was generous to provide me with a Spaghetti Lane-branded shirt. I told him he truly did not have to offer such a generous gift, but I thanked him nonetheless afterward. I must also point out the ambience of the restaurant. The place was comprised of two dining rooms: one of which leaned into the elegance of Italian spirits stacked neatly on shelves and the hypersonic drift of Italo Disco filling the air, the other was a contemporary-style cafe setting with a dessert cashier and a giant cabinet lined with cannoli, cheesecake, and whoopie pies. For some reason, my soul lit up when I heard the Umberto Tozzi version of "Gloria" as I was chomping on my penne. Now that's a vibe. That's my TED Talk. Thank you, everyone!

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry.

Without a reservation, we were grateful for any table. Having spent 4 times the bill here on dinner the night before, we were delighted to discover they had a lunchtime menu special for just $22. I ordered their salad (originally out of "obligation" to assuage my nutritional guilt) & an enjoyed a gorgeous burger. Both were wonderful--the salad was really fresh and flavorful and paired so well with the burger's savory decadence. My partner ordered a cup of clam chowder, which she thought was excellent, and the same tasty burger. We both received very generous portions we were unable to finish. Service was friendly and allergy-aware. They had a coat check, which was a nice touch given our many layers in March. Staff were solicitous and plentiful. Spoke with at least one manager...maybe 2?
