They have a daily menu, and I've had some friends suggest this place as their favorite restaurant. We parked blocks away due to the lack of adequate parking. Once we walked in, we were greeted with pleasant smiles from the staff. The menu was short, which we attributed to a focus on quality. We ordered a French onion dip and a littleneck entree as an app for the table. We were served with lukewarm water, neither cold nor hot. The apostle John might have been somewhat disappointed (Rev 3:16). The dip was decent but was somewhat lacking in great onion flavor. But nothing to complain about. The little necks were served in a small bowl and lacked a bit of salt. Rather pricey for $26, but this place charges $6 just for bread and butter, so maybe it's just inflation? Enter the entrees. They apparently were short on chicken legs so they asked to substitute chicken breast. Two of us got burgers. First the $20 burgers, which were served with an aioli with no offer of ketchup or other condiments. In short, both burgers were terrible. Far worse than we make at home. It's always a disappointment when you realize you're paying all this extra for food you can make better at home. The buns were shockingly flat, like someone smashed them by hand. Or in a McDonald's box. Come to think of it, the flavor was similar, though overall the hamburger was somewhat bitter, salty and lacked an appetizing flavor. Wow. We all agreed they were terrible. The fries were also burnt and over salted. My daughter quit on her $30 chicken, so I tried it. The sauce wasn't bad, and it was served with a decent brocollini. But the chicken was some of the driest I've had in a restaurant, with no crisp skin and a uniformly poor texture. No wonder no one finished their entrees. And I hate wasting food. So, as much as we would have wanted to give this place a great rating, we just won't be back. The service, although with a smile, was slow and terrible. Our candle burnt out in the middle of dinner. It was never relit. Our glasses were empty halfway through dinner. No refills on the tepid water. The entrees took an hour and a half before they came out (we were warned the chicken could take 30 min). Generally a very disappointing experience. Hard to explain the rave reviews but our Saturday dinner was a sad bust. The cold wet madeleines they provided in a doggie bag didn't do anything to help. Oh well. Hope y'all have a better experience if you go here.

Bywater, we will be back!…read more Warren, RI has some great restaurants and I was surprised since I don't frequent this area much. But after this past weekend, I know I want to come back. We were having a lovely dinner in Warren and stopped into Bywater for a quick after-dinner drink. It was a bit cooler out but since they had no seats in the extremely limited bar area, we took the plunge and sat outside near their fire pits. They did not have many wines to choose from BTG which was disappointing. The one I had which was Cinsault was just ok. I had to dump out most of it since I did not enjoy it but that was my fault since sampling it I thought I liked it. My friend had the bartender make her a cocktail with grapefruit since they did not have pineapple. She was looking for a French martini but seemed to enjoy what they made her. My husband's espresso martini was very good I thought and light but could've used some bailey's. We already had dessert so we did not plan on anything else but I know I am interested in returning for dinner. The restaurant is very small inside but I loved the warm lights and decor. It was a very sexy and attractive vibe! If you are ever in Warren I highly recommend coming here for either drinks, dinner, or both. However, there were a few vacant spots along Water St. but also plenty on the side streets. The host brought us to the most perfect seats: on their patio, in the corner, with front row seats to the sun set above the water. Although the seating does seem crowded, since we were in the corner we were able to ignore it. We were sold on two of their specials, one of them being the watermelon tequila drink for my friend and their ricotta hot honey calamari. I ordered a mango mule mocktail for myself. Our server was transparent with us and let us know the drinks would take a bit since the bar was backed up with orders, so it took about 40 minutes to get our drinks. While we waited, the calamari came out. It looked and tasted very crispy, almost like a corn starch or corn flour batter. The calamari was not chewy, but the rings were smaller than what I am used to, with very little octopus. I liked the burrata but I wish it was either on the side in a small dish or in dollops over the calamari since the way it was spread onto the bottom of the plate to one side made it harder to scoop up. I loved when I could taste the hot honey but sadly it was only in little pockets of the dish. I would've wanted more of it to cover most of the pieces. But I really do think burrata - creamy and light, hot honey-sweet, lemon -acidic, and calamari- savory and crispy worked really well. For entrees, my friend ordered the swordfish ($38) and I went with the 14 oz ribeye ($48), albeit I was heavily considering the burger. Our drinks finally made their grand arrival and they were worth the wait. Both were very fruity and refreshing, with the mango mule being sweeter. The food came out after about 20 minutes. It looked fantastic; fresh and still warm. The meat was tougher than I was expecting, but it was cooked how I wanted it. There were a couple cartilage like pieces around the perimeter, but sadly very little tender and fatty marbling. I think it could've used more salt or seasoning. The fries were supposed to be truffle fries, but I think they only added parmesan and dried parsley. The ranch I order on the side helped the fries. The asparagus trunks were thin, but well cooked and flavorful. I tried a piece of my friend's swordfish and it was east to chew but lacking flavor. We did not have space for dessert, but we stayed a while to catch golden hour and more of the sunset. Overall, the food was okay but I thought the prices were high. Our waitress was excellent as she provided updates on our food/drinks, came around often enough and brought us everything we needed, all while maintaining a smile on her face. The views won me over, as well as the snippets of the live music across the parking lot when conversations got quiet or parties started clearing out at Trafford's.

We ordered the mini stuffies, the hummus plate, and the fried pickles. The mini stuffies were a highlight. Loaded with Mello's chouriço and packed with flavor, they're a solid little bite. My grandfather set the bar pretty high for me on stuffies, and these came close. They have a different profile than what I grew up with; a little less bready, more chouriço forward, and the clam flavor takes a back seat. Not necessarily a complaint, they were just different from what I'm used to and were genuinely tasty. The lemon aioli on top was also a nice touch. The fried pickles were exactly what you want them to be. Crispy, well fried, and the breading actually stayed put while you ate them, which is more than I can say for a lot of fried pickles. They came with the same lemon aioli as the stuffies, which worked just as well here. The hummus plate was a bit of a letdown. We've had it many times before and it used to be a standout. This time the hummus itself was thick and pretty flavorless, more like a dense chickpea paste than anything else. The accompaniments were nice though and consisted of heirloom carrots, cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, pickled cauliflower, carrot, and a pepperoncini, all served alongside some buttery round crackers that were like a Ritz cracker's more refined cousin. The veggies saved the plate, but the hummus needs to find its way back. I suppose it could have just been an off batch and won't prevent us from trying it again. Cocktails were great, as usual. I had the Anana with scotch. I love pineapple and this has muddled pineapple and basil, pineapple juice, cracked black pepper. It's my go-to here and it delivered again. My partner went adventurous and ordered the Jungle Booby, which is built around tequila blanco and mezcal with campari, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, orgeat, and an absinthe spritz. The flavors were genuinely good, but the smokiness from the mezcal was a bit much for her taste. She followed it up with a glass of rosé and had no complaints after that. The cocktail wasn't the problem, it just wasn't her style. One of our favorite spots in Warren for a quick nibble, for a good reason.

My friend had been to the Aviary before and spoke highly of it, and after scanning the menu, I also thought it was a great selection. It was around 8:15 pm when we arrived so we luckily just barely made it before the kitchen closed and we were able to be sat outside. We started with drinks - a Maracuja (which translates to passion fruit in English) and Lychee Martini - both were excellent! They were refreshing, not overly sweet, tasted just like the fruit advertised, and didn't have a ton of ice. All the appetizers made my mouth water just by reading them on the menu, but we decided on the garlic rosemary wings to keep it classic. The menu said they'd be jumbo wings, but they looked like normal size to me which I was actually pleased about since jumbo wings scare me (they're usually raw closer to the bone). They were very crispy on the outside which almost dried them out, but the garlic and rosemary infused butter did bring them back to life a little. I could taste both the garlic and rosemary in the butter and the parmesan cheese shavings were a great touch. For entrees, I ordered a CT style lobster roll and my friend had the swordfish (with fingerling potatoes and asparagus). On Wednesdays, a lobster roll is $20 which is a really good price especially since it also comes with homemade chips. They give you an option between CT style (warm and lobster tossed with butter) and New England style (cold and tossed with mayo and lemon), so I learned something new that day. The bun was buttered and toasted, and it was stuffed with a good amount of fresh lobster meat, and mixed with a light amount of butter. The chips were crunchy, seasoned, fresh, and tasted like real potatoes but just a millimeter or two thicker. The swordfish was flavorful, moist, and did not taste fishy at all. The fingerling potatoes were soft and flavorful as well. They also brought us out an order of fries and they were quite good, maybe missing some salt but I liked that there was a variety going on such as crispy, oily, soft, long, short, edges etc. Our server was great throughout the night; brought us everything we needed without checking in too often. Even though they were closed, the staff did not make us feel like we had to rush out; they were rather patient and we left around 9:45 pm. Both the inside and outside of the restaurant are very nice. The inside gives classy, and the outside gives great space for laughter and good vibes. They even have a section with lawn chairs over turf with string lights. The entrance/exit path is also very nice, with hydrangeas, roses, and other flowers on either side, a white arch, and string lights too.
