Well worth the drive from Providence. Sometimes it's hard to know which places to go outside of the city....the Red Dory has always been one of our favorites. It's stayed consist over the years with freshest seafood, creative flavors, homemade pastas, and great service. Everything on the menu is good here. We had not been back since COVID days but as friends have this spot on their regular dining schedule - ventured again. Service was good and the bar was much improved. Cocktails were good. Appetizers were 1/2 dozen oysters and their house-made pastrami. The latter was excellent and a huge portion but the pickles were a travesty. Don't know if the weird and unpleasant flavor was intentional or a pickling job that went astray. We both had their steak frites. Steak was fine but the entire dish - especially the fries - were very over salted. And they could cut the amount of fries in half. Throw in 2 glasses of wine and tip. Quality restaurant bringing bold tastes to local ingredients, with very good service in a modern stylish setting. I was pleased to see so many European influences across the menu, and the spices were definitely not your old New England clam shack. Everything was fresh and the fried items were served hot. Full disclosure: I'm obnoxiously picky. My entree, a cod cassoulet, was a near miss, with tasty clams & beans in a comforting broth, but not quite as good as I hoped. My cocktail, a Mexican hand grenade, was similarly good, but not perfect, with a touch too much brine. Their specialty seems to be to add a bit of pineapple to the coleslaw and the fluke ceviche, which is bright but not outstanding. The atmosphere is a bit cold, like a Scandinavian wine bar, with metal tables and hard benches, but it's well lit and elegant. Almost 5 stars, and I may try it again the next time I'm in Tiverton. read more

Every dish we've tried here has had the freshest ingredients and been presented in a pleasing and often creative way. Recently our server, Shelby, made the evening shine even brighter. Warm, attentive and wonderfully knowledgeable, she struck just the right balance between professionalism and friendly charm. Any great dish is a sum of its parts-- and without great ingredients, the dish is a house built on a foundation of sand. However, you won't find anything but farm fresh, rich in flavor, colorful ingredients at The Red Dory. The Kale Cesar salad featured an in house dressing, unmistakably artisan in its consistency and flavor. The Fluke Ceviche was thoughtfully presented and seemed to give the chef an opportunity to express himself, the fish was firm, the vegetables were crispy, and was delightfully citrusy- diced and packed to perfection. The Yellowfin Tuna Tartar topped with a smokey, salty caper mayo, which complimented the fish well, was served with house chips and was nothing short of delicious-- BUT the chip to tartar ratio was a bit off, with too many chips. Finally, the Salmon in coconut red curry was a harmonious fusion of flavors and textures. The spicy coconut red curry adds a delightful kick, elevating the dish to a memorable culinary experience. Overall, The Red Dory delivered a well-balanced and satisfying dining experience that tantalizes the taste buds. The only downfall to the experience was the lack of physical menus. While electronic menus may offer convenience, they detract from the traditional dining experience that many look to in order to unplug for a bit. Find yourself a little oasis across from the water and settle on in here. Strolled in on a Sunday afternoon for some light fare and settled on a couple of appetizers. The Middle Eastern Meze Platter is a bouquet of delicious bites. On it you will get minted yogurt, eggplant caponata, muhammarra, eggplant purée, chick peas, toasted almonds, edamame, olives and flat bread chips. A good portion. Cute restaurant that looks like it's a little shack, but very nice inside. Have never been there before and didn't know reservations would be needed. We were just driving through on our way back from Newport. The hostesses (2) were both very nice and got us a table as long as we would be out within an hour and half. They don't have traditional menus you need to scan the wall code or ask for an iPad. The bar area was really nice looking and had many open seats. We were seated at a booth which had a stainless steel type table. Wasn't that nice and held the water from the drinks. The waitress seemed nice until I only ordered French fries. I was looking for a chicken parm or chicken sandwich or just anything chicken. I even asked if they had chicken tenders for kids but they didn't. The only chicken dish was described to me as half a chicken! She then tried to push steak and other dishes. Another server came really fast with our meals: fish and chips and my side of French fries. French fries were string type and were ok. The fish was good. The waitress never came back to refill our drinks and only came back to ask if we wanted desert. She never even said anything when I paid. The place wasn't that packed, she was just mad I didn't order anything. Would try somewhere else before going back. Their bathroom was nice and clean which was nice after being in a really nasty one while in Newport. read more

My gf and I had two different experiences here. My rating would be 4 stars and hers 2 stars. Luckily for the Red Dory, I am the one writing the review. I ordered the octopus appetizer, a blueberry lemon dessert and the star of the show ... wait for it ... a Alchemist Brewing Heady Topper IPA. That's right, for $10 they sell cans of the #12 rated beer in the world, according to Beer Advocate. Very hard to find ... but they have it here somehow. This alone gets them bumped up on my list. My gf had the orichette pasta with sausage. She did not enjoy her dish. In her defense, it was a bit of an oily mess. They almost sear the pasta on one side so its a little chewy and crisp. I am pretty against this ... as it did not add to the dish at all. The sausage pieces were few and sprinkled throughout. I will agree, if I received this dish for $25, I'd have been PO'ed too. My octopus was great but a bit on the small side. I asked if they served an entree portion but was told they did not, however many people find the appetizer meal-sized. I think I disagree and this is an appetizer-sized portion. If not for the chickpeas that came with it, I'd have had to order a meal to go with it. I left hungry. The chowder was haddock and clam chowder, which was disappointing as I could never get into mixed chowders. The dessert was a hot mess ... actually a cold mess ... but a mess all the same. The waitress talked me out of (sort of) the Basque Cheesecake by telling me their signature dessert was the lemon blueberry pudding. I asked her if it was a British-style pudding (more of a cake) or an American style pudding (creamy). She said it was like a melted souffle ... and that was a good description. It was a soft, runny cake-like structure ... about 2 spoonful-worth. Not big at all. The main part of the dish was a lemon curd 'sauce' which looked like a melted plate of ice cream. The flavour was nice but it was essentially a dish of sauce with 2 spoonfuls of light cake. Don't get this ... if you do, politely ask for a straw to drink your dessert. I think I was so excited to see Heady Topper on the menu that I might have overrated our meal based on the food. The atmosphere is great ... right across from the water. There is a cute outdoor seating section in the front of the restaurant and inside has a wood-burning fire and is very cozy. Overall, I liked my experience and would like to try it again, although the menu was a bit light. I have a feeling I will be overruled by the lady as she did not like her meal at all. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful coastal setting. My family has been coming to this place for many years and their standards have not only been maintained, I think they have improved. We went on a Friday night close to opening time and sat on their open-air shaded patio. Our server was very friendly to our group - all while training a new staff member - and she didn't miss a beat. We had deviled eggs, pastrami, and a half dozen littleneck clams as appetizers. Each item was packed with flavor and tasted fresh. I got the fried scallops, my wife got pasta, and my daughter got a kids fish and chips. The pasta was very anchovy-ey and flavorful. Both of our fried dishes were done with a gentle touch, and were crispy and absolutely perfectly breaded and not overdone. The icing on the cake at The Red Dory was their great beer selection, and we were lucky they had Heady Topper IPA from Vermont - I DID NOT expect to wash down my incredible plate of fried seafood with that exquisite and hard-to-find-outside-of-VT beer. First of all, we had the most gorgeous view of the sunset over the water from out table. I would come back for the setting alone. We started of with cocktails. My partner ordered the Siesta which kind of reminds me of a margarita. It was good, but I loved my Mexican Hand Grenade cocktail. I loved the smokiness of the mezcal and the spiciness from the habanero. For apps, we got the Raw Bar Platter. It's a perfect way to try most of the items on their appetizer menu. It had 6 oysters, 3 little necks, 2 shrimp cocktail, fluke ceviche, and crackers. All very fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed the addition of pomegranate in the ceviche. Oh and it comes with an intensely pink mignonette sauce- the best I've ever had. The Smoked Haddock and Clam Chowder had great, robust flavor- but a bitter thinner in consistency than I prefer. Both the Caesar and Simple Green salads were refreshing, simple, and lightly dressed- which I liked. For my main dish, I combined two apps that I couldn't choose between. The Middle Eastern Meze Platter was good, but I really enjoyed the gnocchi that was perfectly cooked and covered in a delicious puréed spinach sauce. My partner ordered the Pan Roasted Cod. First restaurant visit since lockdown, so we had some trepidation. When we arrived, we were alone in the dining room, but half hour later the room was full (with generous distancing). Wanted to try someplace new and had driven by The Red Dory on multiple Occasions and decided to celebrate my Husband's birthday here amongst friends. I made reservations for 6 a few days prior which was a good idea because they were pretty packed on a Saturday evening at 5:45pm. We were able to get the last parking space available on the side of the restaurant. We were sat in the back with a beautiful view of the ocean. Our server was very friendly, all smiles, and very accommodating. While the menu was limited we all had no problem deciding what to order. Serving sizes were satisfying and the food was absolutely delicious. The drinks were very good as well. Overall our experience at The Red Dory was a positive one and plan on eating here again. read more

We had a late Wednesday night dinner. The service was great. Really attentive server and gave us a bunch of recommendations. Food was also great. We enjoyed the local oysters, fried oysters, the clam chowder was interesting and tasty with the haddock, and the pork and veal meatballs were really good (it came with a really fragrant garlicky oil based sauce and the orecchiette was really nicely crisped). Good spot for dinner at Tiverton overlooking the water, boats and sunset. I'd been wanting to try this spot for a while and finally got to have dinner on a weekday. Got the blueberry bourbon drink which was pretty good. Not too sweet, and was refreshing and well balanced at the time. For food, we got the beet salad, fluke ceviche and the roasted bbq chicken. Ceviche and salad were alright though the chicken was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. The pickled vegetables and beans went along well. It's always popular for family gatherings and it's a delight to see multiple generations find something delightful to eat and enjoy. We are trying to eat our way through Tiverton. I made reservations here two days in advance without a problem. We were seated immediately in a friendly relaxed way. Our big thing is food, price, server. I had the bucatini, a pasta dish with roasted cauliflower, one nuts, anchovy, etc. So good and a generous portion. My love had the pork and break meatballs on pasta. We finished everything. For dessert, we shared the warm chocolate cake. Finished it! The decaf coffees were unusually tasty. Price. Yes, I thought the price was a bit high but they have a business to run, staff to pay and folks are hot to get out. Maybe it was ten percent more than it should be but, it's also about the local economy. Service. Excellent. Shelby did a nice job. Attentive, pleasant, unobtrusive, fast. My kind of server. There are some cons. The small serving of fresh bread was.. Small, with a saucer of plain olive oil. Kind of boring. Tasty, but boring. The warm chocolate cake wasn't and could have been warmer. It was not dense, falling apart. I think it was flourless. Just okay. Will I return? Absolutely. This is a nicely decorated, well staffed, restaurant with tasty offerings. Ask for Shelby. read more

First time here an we were impressed. Nice decor with a large bar. Split the fried shrimp and pastrami for appetizers. The pastrami was definitely the better of the two. First time having homemade pastrami and it was delicious. For entrees we had the pork and veal meatballs with orecchiette and an arugula salad. The meatball entree with very good, very flavorful. The only issue with the entire experience was not being able to add any protein to the salad. One star off for that. Everything else, the service, food, ambience were amazing. It didn't belong, although pork and seafood go great together, the sausage wasn't good. I would recommend linguica or chorizo. The color and spice would add a much better flavor. The best part of the meal was the fried oyster appetizer it was delicious. My Portuguese duck rice was good and helped me discover a newfound dish that I'll look to cook at home. We got takeout recently from the Red Dory, and it was pretty good. We had the deviled eggs, smoked haddock chowder, octopus appetizer, pineapple coconut rice pudding, and the blueberry lemon dessert. The deviled eggs were the best I have ever had, and I think there was caviar on top. Really fantastic. The smoked haddock chowder was very disappointing. The chowder had broken (which means the cream wasn't tempered properly and the oil cream, and butter separated). I think it must have been reheated and over reduced, it was incredibly salty and I was unable to eat it. The octopus App was cooked perfectly. I have never had such tender tenticals. Stopped in here today for a late lunch, 1:30 ish. The pictures of shrimp and grits brought us over the bridge and I was sad it wasn't on the menu. The menu was limited and that threw me off a bit. In my indecision I started with a bowl of chowder and I was not disappointed. Haddock and Clam chowder was really good. LOTS OF CLAMS!! The consistency was similar to lobster stew, rich goodness and lots of butter. Nothing sparked my interest on the menu and for lunch the prices were really high. So my friend and I decided to split an appetizer. Living on the edge, we tried the grilled octopus. It came out on a bed of chickpeas. The octopus was good, but the chickpeas and pepper sauce was nothing to write home about. We ordered dessert too and had the Cranberry Brak - Jewish bread with a scoop of burnt sugar ice cream. It was interesting. Unfortunately the cranberries dominated and muted all the other flavors. The view, although I didn't photograph was absolutely gorgeous. Right there near the Pier. read more

I had a really great meal here on a recent visit to see my daughter who lives in Tiverton. My rating for The Red Dory is a round-up 4 1/2 to a 5. One of the favorite things I had was a super good ceviche! I live in Miami and eat ceviche all the time. I know ceviche. The taste was perfect. The serving size was OK. I would have loved more, but for the quantity received it was priced fairly. We also ordered scallops for an appetizer and they were equally as tasty. In this case, however, the portion was too small. This would be the only ding I would give The Red Dory. For my main course, I had a very good swordfish that was prepared perfectly and was very flavorful. Before and after my meal I had some nice cocktails, ... stiff and fairly priced. Overall I give RD good marks for an interesting menu, service that was better than average, and a nice ambiance. Red Dory also had a big bar, and it would be one I would be happy to eat at if I was solo. I would be a regular at Red Dory if I lived in the area. Thanks for a great meal. read more
