It was very good But the star of dinner was the Salted Caramel Sundae Salted caramel gelato, whipped espresso, pecans, cracker jill. OMG! I'm going back just for the apps and that dessert. Newport Restaurant Group gets it right every time. I am an Ironworks/Avvio groupie but now adding this restaurant to my rotation. Service was fantastic, I wish I remembered our server's name but he was great. S/O to the Manager, who was also fantastic, I saw him clearing glasses, adjusting tables, interacting with service people and asking if they were okay (as a former rest.owner, this is huge!) and talking with customers. Highly recommend the chicken wings which are very crispy with a nice teriyaki flavor and kimchi. Crab cakes delicious but tiny and there's only 3 - about the size of a golf ball. Loved the green tea mojito. Got the cod and hen suego for entrees. Cod in delicious sauces but small in portion size. Hen suego was filling and hearty - not a very common dish so I'd ask your waiter about it. Ours was very helpful in helping us choose our dishes. One of our favorite places scenery wise. The potatoes and broccolini that came with the hanger steak was cooked skillfully with some crispy bits and salted perfectly. I have come here twice on business travel. The first time I enjoyed my meal much more. The cocktail was made approximately that time, the food was perfect (a carbonara type dish), deviled eggs and salad. The second time, the deviled eggs were still in the menu and good, but the pasta was different and they claimed to know how to make a whiskey sour with egg white, but they brought out a 16oz glass of liquid I couldn't identify. The ambiance is nice if the weather allows for the patio. It is quant and nice for a team meal but the menu changes often and you can't guarantee that one good meal means the next meal will be good. read more

We had the absolute best party in the downstairs area at the Waterman Grille. The rooms are gorgeous: dark bar, bright main room with windows along the whole side showing the river. Nice lighting and a terrific staff. The food was absolutely delicious! We had a few appetizer platters, some passed appetizers, and sliders. But the real standout was the staff who went from helping us carry in stuff IN THE RAIN, setting up the room exactly the way I wanted it, brought extra tables for an activity and presents, cut the giant cakes and served them expertly topped with yummy ice cream, serving drinks with a smile, to packing up all the food -- I couldn't have asked for better. Back again, this time with friends. We sat in the main dining room as the covered deck was a bit cold at this time of the year. We shared the calamari which was tasty but more spicy than expected - too much for two of our group. Two people had very good Cornish hens, another the pork chop, and I had beef stroganoff - also excellent. We also shared well done fries. We drank different liquids and two of us ended with decaf espressos. Our server, Chelsi, whom we didn't know, was efficient. The check came to just under $200, worth it. The experience was almost up to a five star level. And of course we will be back as this is one of our favorite restaurants in Providence. read more

The front staff told me happy birthday when walking in, the card on the table I will keep with all the signatures is a well thought out idea for amazing hospitality! The view at 8:15p was perfect and the weather was perfect! My friend and I not only miss each other but needed a break. One of my favorite places in Rhode Island- I love the food, ambiance and the service! I always order the calamari and the burger special they have on the menu (French onion burger this time). I enjoy the great view of the water while dining- and today I had the pleasure of sitting in the upstairs room! Keep it up Waterman Grille! I do miss the big pickles that used to come with the burger, but still delicious. We were seated upon arrival for our reservation and given the choice of inside the dining room or in the covered/heated porch. We chose the porch as it was less crowded and quieter and the temperature was pleasant even though outside temperature was below freezing. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. We were offered bread which was delicious, soft and crusty with wonderful butter. I got the Mezcal Lime Rickey as a cocktail and we shared the calamari and shoestring fries for the table. Both were great and came out quickly. Disappointed. Got the French Onion Burger to go and ate it right away. I ordered it "medium". It was definitely "well done". The char on it was out of this world, and that wasn't a good thing for an already overcooked patty. The onions were just there; I couldn't taste them, a huge letdown when it's the burger's namesake. The fries that accompanied it were hot, but grease-Lardner, limp, soggy and SALTY. This was my first experience and will most likely be my last. Fantastic! It is my observation that no matter where you may sit in this restaraunt for us it was the bar the food was great! I would've given it a 5, but my sobriety was broken with a subtle mistake for a non-alcoholic beverage, but the service from the bartender to the kitchen staff was a pleasant experience coming from an atmoshere of self-serving and ingratitude. Here's what happened: Meal ordered, meal delivered, meal eaten, empty plates taken. Meal served, meat partialy eaten, plates taken and food placed in cute boxes for us. I had it cooked medium but next time I would order it medium rare. Cod - soft and moist. Came here with some friends on a weekday night and had a great time! Plenty of parking in a huge lot. Inside was very cozy. We asked to move to a different table because the first one we were at was getting too much cold draft from the door and they were super accommodating. We got a few of their favorites from the menu such as the steak and the pork chop. Meats-wise, food was a bit overcooked. I thought they did their risotto and carbs quite well though. Drinks were delicious and we loved the seasonal menu. My girlfriend doesn't drink too much alcohol so she was so excited to see a great and creative mocktail menu! Overall, would definitely come back. It was a good experience and food price-wise is where you'd expect. It's a bit pricy, but it's not as crazy as I thought it could have been. read more

Went here in Sept for dinner. The ambiance was charming and even though we didn't sit outside, our spot along the outside edge of the reataurant was cozy and nice. I had the scallops dish with succotash. The succotash was delicious and had a depth of flavor on it that you rarely get to experience. On top of all that, our waiter was also great and a lot of fun. Disappointing. However, I may have a skewed view as I came here for a corporate work event as opposed to "regular" dining... My company held their annual "holiday party" here. There was a custom menu with 2-3 options to choose from for apps, entrees and dessert. I picked the clam chowder, marinated filet and chocolate mousse. The clam chowder was very bland and an oddly small portion size served in an equally-odd large bowl. The filet was drowning in red wine and had a peppercorn-like crust which tasted like rocks. It hurt my teeth to bite into it. At least it was cooked to a nice medium, even though I was not asked how I wanted it cooked. The potatoes on the side were extremely salty. And the chocolate mousse was nothing special. The best part was the small crunchy chocolate balls, which there was not enough of. The "regular" dining experience here may be different, however can't say I would recommend for an event :( read more

We capped off our eating tour of Providence with dinner at the Waterman Grille, and it was a great way to end this trip. This restaurant has an excellent vibe, excellent service, and excellent food. The hanger steak with crispy fingerlings was the best I've ever had, and I have eaten a lot of them. My only complaint was that I was unable to bring the leftovers (it is a huge portion) home, due to an early flight back to San Francisco. Andrew, our server, had the perfect balance between attentive and laid back. The whole place executed perfectly and I can recommend Waterman Grille wholeheartedly. read more

It was a beautiful 82-degree day, and our party of four was seated on the outside deck next to the river. The awning provided sufficient shade, and we were removed from most of the road noise that affects al fresco dining in the city. On the weekends, the Waterman Grill offers a limited brunch menu with about 10 entrees to choose from. We selected: Red Bridge Omelet - $16.00 (two diners selected this dish) RI mushroom, tomato, goat cheese Smoked Salmon Benedict - $18.00 Poached eggs, sauteed spinach, English muffin, hollandaise Eggs Benedict - $16.00 Poached eggs, Canadian bacon, English muffin, hollandaise It seemed to take quite some time for the dishes to appear even though it wasn't very busy. There was however a bridal shower happening on the lower level. When the meals arrived, there were mixed reactions. Both diners really enjoyed their Red Bridge Omelet's, one commented it was delicious. The eggs benedict entrees received less enthusiastic reviews. Once diner commented the English muffin was so tough, she couldn't cut it or take a bite out of it. I found my eggs were overcooked, the yolks beginning to harden toward hard boiled, and my dish was very salty. There was a choice of greens (lettuce) or potato for sides. We tried both, the greens were fine, it's difficult to get excited about some lettuce and dressing. The potatoes were tasty. Overall we enjoyed the venue, our waitress was excellent, and the omelets were very good. It's difficult to rate this dining experience, which was somewhere between three and four stars, so I'll rate it exclusively on my entrée, which I would not order again if dining here. When preparing Eggs Benedict, the eggs should cook about 3 to 4 minutes, ensuring the egg white is fully cooked but the yolk remains runny. Mine were not at all runny, they were too salty, and the muffin was chewy. So, I'm providing a three-star review for this visit. read more

We did our monthly dinner with friends here. It was a great choice. We were seated outside at sunset and the heat lamps made it very comfortable. The staff were great. The cocktails and mocktails were both delicious. We started with the calamari which was lightly breaded and delicious. The Caesar salad was tasty. The salmon was perfect added to it. The chicken wings had great flavor and were fall off the bones rendered the cod and salmon entrees were reported as great as well. The fries and fingerling potatoes were a great addition to the table. They were nice and soft with a crispy outside. Not the highlight but I don't say no to potatoes. I had dinner at Waterman Grille to celebrate my birthday (happy birthday to meeeeee). I always love eating here but the service this time around left a lot to be desired. The Good: - The cheese plate, beet and burrata salad, and my ribeye were all delicious. - There was a signed card at the table wishing me a happy birthday (happy birthday to meeeeeeeeeeee). - My Old Fashioned was excellent--so good that I ordered two. The Bad/Ugly: - Once we were seated, it was a 15min wait for the server to take our drink order. I figured whatever, now we're going to be a-ok. - The cheese plate came to the table 10min later and we still hadn't received our drinks (so almost 30min since we initially sat down). The server came by and said our drinks were coming, which they finally did, so in the meantime we were drinking delicious Providence water. - At the table behind us there were several birthdays, and the waitress brought out three desserts on one plate for them as a birthday treat. I thought that was cool. When our meal was over, he didn't mention anything about a dessert for me, he didn't tell us about the desserts, so we paid and left. We've only eaten here twice so far, but every meal has been great so far, the staff is professional and pleasant, and the place overall just has a nice intimate feel to it. Not commercialized, not rushed, courteous, helpful, etc. You can really tell that they take pride in the dishes. It is NOT nearby for us (maybe 1.5 hour drive), but we were legitimately digging for an excuse to be in the area again earlier this week. My daughters and I love to go out for breakfast at Waterman Grille. The food is exceptional. We really appreciate the warmth of the servers too. It's lovely in the main dining area but whenever possible we like to sit on the porch and enjoy the view. Such fun when the rowers go by! read more

A friend and I had a lovely dinner at Waterman Grill this past Thursday night. we opted for outdoor seating as it was a beautiful night and it was very pretty and relaxing sitting out on the covered deck. Service was outstanding and our drink orders were taken just a few minutes after we were seated. We ordered deviled eggs to start and they were outstanding - flavorful and very nice presentation. Our server asked if we wanted to add an additional piece as the order typically comes with three deviled eggs. I'm so glad we did add one more because they were so delicious! I ordered the pork chop with herb & gruyere spaetzle, swiss chard, cornbread crumble, and apple thyme agrodolce. It was by far the best pork chop I've ever had, and the portion was large enough that I took some home to enjoy for lunch. My friend ordered the Goat Cheese Risotto and said it was delicious. We finished our meal by each ordering two scoops of gelato. My flavor selections were salted caramel chocolate chip and pistachio, and both were a delight. Sorry but I can't give Waterman Grille anymore than 3 stars because of the lack of choices for me. Menu... was so funky. Great looking steaks had a whole bunch of things on it that wasn't appealing. Plus our waitress wasn't the friendliest. Almost looking down on us once we told her we would be using a gift card. I will say my wife really enjoyed her meal; Beets salad and Rossito. This is a favorite spot for a special treat. The restaurant is cozy for dinner, with low lighting and dark wood on the main level. There's also a porch area overlooking the river and it remains open year round, just with plastic protection. Conveniently, there is also a large parking lot to the right of the building. On this recent trip, we started with the lamb shawarma. The lamb was over a bead of couscous and had some aioli sauce. Both the couscous and lamb were spectacularly spiced. Every bite was a perfect flavor experience. I got the special for my main dish and it was also delicious and generously portioned. I noticed on this trip that they have a mocktail menu now, which I think is new since the last time I was there. On the reservation, my boyfriend had said it was my birthday, and at the end of the meal they brought me a crème brûlée with gingersnaps on top. Since it's a pretty cozy and romantic environment they don't sing, which I think is a plus, and the dessert was really good. The ginger snaps were very chewy and soft, and my crème brûlée connoisseur boyfriend that it was one of the better ones he's had. read more

Stopped in for dinner as always when I'm visiting my home state or RI. We had a very good waiter named John who took excellent care of us while we had our meals. I had the pork chop. It was cooked perfectly. It had a delicious chutney over top. All served over a delicious bed of macaroni and cheese along with a nicely seasoned rainbow shard. I ate every bite. My wife had the salmon over a bed of ancient grains accompanied by baby spinach. She said it was very well cooked too. The meal was paired with a nice Malbec. John our waiter was probably the most attentive server we've had at our table. No joke! This place always knocks it out of the park. If you're looking to have a nice experience for dinner and your in little old Providence RI look them up.You won't be disappointed.
