Yesterday was my birthday and it was finally time for me to try a seafood boil. I'm so glad I did! Captain Loui's has a small parking lot which is impressive for Federal Hill. We stopped in at 5 yesterday and were worried the restaurant would be busy, but we were sat immediately. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with lots of nautical themes. Our waitress was lovely and explained the menu to us in detail. As it was our first time at a seafood boil she was very patient with all our questions. Ultimately I had the 2lb boil with 1lb of mussels, 1/2lb of shrimp, and 1/2lb of clams in the captain Loui sauce with a side of garlic noodles. Our waitress came back quickly with a bib, gloves, and a bucket for shells. Not long after our meals came out and let me tell you everything was excellent! The seafood was cooked perfectly, plenty of sauce, and even the corn and potato were out of this world. I ordered the sauce medium and it definitely had a nice kick to it. The garlic noodles had great flavor, a little clumpy but with a little of that captain Loui sauce added on top it fixed the problem. It's not cheap but for a once in a while special occasion treat I can not recommend this place enough! read more

My fave seafood boil spot! I'll never go anywhere else. Their sauce, seafood quality and service is all great. The seafood is always fresh here. I always get the pick 2 and select the shrimp with head on and mussels. Comes with some potatoes and corn; also a side of your choice (I always do extra corn or garlic noodles!) you pick your sauce (get the capt Louie sauce!) and spice level (hot! Is best). The only place I'll got 10 fingers in on a meal and let the sauce get all over my face (I usually hate eating with my hands).. it's so worth it. There's a flower vendor lady that walks around fed hill and she'll come by for your boyfriend to buy you flowers too ladies haha! Came here with my family of 4 and spent around 100 before tip! What a good deal for seafood boil, we ordered crab, lobster tail, clams, calamari, and shrimp with the head on. We also got the fish and chips platter. The 3 lbs of seafood boil came with 2 free sides so we got garlic noodles and sausages. There was sooo much food and it was all delicious. My favorite was the calamari which was so yummy with their signature sauce. We got medium spiciness which was the perfect degree of hotness without being too much. I will say, the garlic noodles were just alright, the cheese on the noodles were a bit overwhelming but overall it was still such a nice meal. Our waitress was sooo sweet and funny too. TL;DR 8/10 for crab boils, service, ambiance, parking, and vibes. -1 for not the greatest chicken wing app, and -1 for nothing wow. Also, offer more shucking tools :) Parking was easy to find, but was just midday Saturday. For this part of town, parking quabity decreases with the sun's position in the sky. Entry wasn't stinky, which we anecdotally use as a sign of things to come. Waitress (Rebecca?) was amazing. Very inviting, chill, but not intrusive: goldilocks zone care. Made everyone in the party feel comfortable immediately, and wasn't a ghost-host: checked in without hovering or jump-scaring. Got complementary water, and ordered chicken wing appetizer, which is freshly-made. We believed this when we got the piping hot wings, but were slightly pink for ideal chicken - keep them in there for 3 more minutes, maybe offer bread or popcorn to balance the intentional hangriness. Cajun seasoned fries hit. Our boils came out pretty quickly. Rebecca peeled the bag open for us, and we dug in. Crab was amazing (fresh, well-cooked, pre-sliced at least for king crab). Potatoes & sausage were a highlight, corn & egg were pretty average. Sauce was true to form, medium was noticeable and hot was a little challenge. We might try the extreme next time we are here. Wanted to get dessert but too full. Beachfest: We had 1 metal crusher thingie for each of us, but only 1 red plastic shucking knife / crab claw. Since we had some young crab noobs in our party, they kept passing the red claw back and forth. Maybe ask if the party wants individual red claws, or just offer them with each crusher? Be prepared for sticker shock, which shouldn't really be too much of a pinch if you're eating crab, in this economy. Weren't sure if we were paying at the table or as we walked out, but figured it out pretty easily. Overall: Again, I'm looking for anything to balance out how good this was... would definitely visit Cap't Loui's again when we our crustacean cravings boil over. read more

We came here as a treat for Mother's Day, and we were not disappointed! We love a good seafood boil. Their sauce was unique to us (we are used to MD style with old bay) - it's super tasty, and I'd go so far as to ask for the recipe or a bottle of the stuff! The staff was very friendly upon arrival, both the hostess and waitress. The market prices are easily visible on the wall. Their menu is easy to follow, especially for someone who had never been here before. The food and drinks (we got a captrisun - I'm sure I misspelled that) were all delicious. this was my first seafood boil experience at capt loui and everything exceeded my expectations! i walked in and was greeted by a friendly hostess and was promptly seated and provided water. the place was fairly clean, spacious, and the decor was industrial and seasonal (some spooky szn decor). i immediately noticed that they had immaculate taste in music because old rnb was playing the whole time and i was in such a mood. whoever picked the music on wednesday night needs to be in charge of music all the time. we came on a wednesday so there was a deal for a $20 lobster. the server had amazing rapport with us and gave us excellent recommendations. she immediately knew this was my first time at capt loui. we originally wanted to do a half pound of crawfish and half pound of shrimp in capt loui seasoning (cajun), but they accidentally gave us a full pound of each. needless to say there was a ton of food but we still demolished it so she def did us a favor lol! with an order of two whole pounds you get a free side (three pounds = 2 free sides, etc) so we ordered fries as a side. the boil includes potatoes and corn. i also ordered a strawberry lemonade in addition which imo was perfect to pair with the boil. the taste? *chefs kiss*. our server told us that the person who made our order was new, but the food still tasted amazing. we wanted medium spice and it was actually medium spice... a tolerable level of spicy. the seasoning was on point. at the end the total still came out to be more than reasonable, approx $85 incl tip for 3 lbs of seafood boil, for the both of us. the complimentary mouthwash in the bathroom was a nice touch. i'd honestly come back just for the service but with that much food and that price, i'm definitely coming back for more. capt loui providence was a great first experience for me and i recommend this for anyone who are craving some good seasoned fresh seafood for a fair price and excellent service! ps. there's parking in the back! drive through the side of the restaurant and the whole row in the very back of the lot will have designations for capt loui guests on it. read more

Dropped in over the weekend while the Columbus Day festival was taking place. There was no wait during prime dinner hours on a Friday night, the service was spectacular and the boil was so tasty. We got the mild lemon pepper seasoning with shrimp and king crab. It is messy but they provide bibs, gloves and wipes, plus all the tools you need to crack open a crustacean. This is a very great seafood restaurant here in Providence. First the parking is great, they have parking in the rear which makes it very convenient. The food here is fire--easily the best seafood in the area. I've been coming to this spot for almost two years and never had an issue, but lately, it feels like they've been shorting the portions. Last time I went with my friends, we all ordered 1 lb of seafood. One of us got just shrimp, and you could straight-up tell it wasn't a full pound. I got clams and snow crab with the free sides, and they only gave me one cluster. All our bags felt like a 1/2 lb instead of a full one, and I know what a 1/2 lb looks like 'cause I've ordered it before. I decided to give it another shot and ordered takeout, even though I don't live in RI, so it's a long drive. My husband got 1 lb of snow crab with his free sides, and I got the same thing as last time. Service was super friendly. We got a pick 2 with shrimp and clams and it comes with potatoes and corn. You get a free side so we got sausage. It also comes with unlimited garlic noodles. I feel like they need to advertise that more because the noodles must have crack in them they are soooo garlicky, savory and good. I don't wanna know how much butter is in them! I went during opening weekend (April 1st). It was fantastic. Staff and hosts were on point even on opening weekend. The vibe was great. They played great music at a good volume! My waiter was honestly the best and was very attentive. I even got to meet the owner who was greeting all the guests. Full disclaimer: only came here with wanting raw oysters. After searching for somewhere on more casual side where I'd feel comfortable coming after working out, I thought this place would be best option based on pics looking like laid back setting. Inside was nice but as soon as we sat down and started looking at menu I started to realize this may not be the laid back unique to providence type of restaurant I had in mind a more of a corporate, touristy trap place. Which isn't a bad thing by any means because that's what some people like. Just a warning to those that may be looking for a one of a kind experience, especially given the prices. Now fast forward to now and I see that this restaurant is, in fact, a chain with locations across the country. Makes more sense. Ordered a bowl of the New England clam chowder and dozen raw oysters. Chowder was pretty good. However when the oysters came out, half of them had barely anything there to eat - I'm talking like the size of my thumb nail if that. The waitress did mention they have dollar Tuesday's and that honestly what the price of these oysters should be every day. Overall, don't come here for oysters. I won't speak for the rest of their food because it may be great and I didn't get a chance to try their cocktails which also looked decent. My fiancé put it best. This place reminded him of some of the tourist trap places in New Orleans where you get mediocre food and a mediocre experience all for the same price as another seafood joint more local to the area.
