Puffcake by Capri was a mixed experience. The puffcakes were light, fluffy, and delicious, but the real star was the cube French toast especially the Nutella flavor. It blew the puffcakes out of the water. They should consider a name change! Unfortunately, the service didn't live up to the food. We waited 15 minutes for a server, another 20 for our lattes, and nearly an hour after ordering for our food. Our server even came over with the check because she thought we had already eaten and our table cleared but was shocked to learn our food hadn't even arrived yet. The outdoor seating could also use some updating, with awkwardly placed table legs that didn't lend to a four top and peeling tabletops. Went to Capri to try the (Puff Cake) soufle pancakes and I was very dissapointed with the experience as a whole. Only reason I'm giving 1 star still is because the waitress was very nice and what happens in the kitchen is not her fault! I think her name is (Katy?) I can't remember exactly but she was super nice! We got there for 11:30 reservation. Waited 15 minutes before we were seated which I didn't love already because there's no waiting area and nowhere to sit where the restaurant is so you have to stand around waiting for the table. Well by the time we left there I finally understood why we had to wait another 15 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. We ordered our food and drinks and got our drinks fairly quick but the food took way too long considering that it's breakfast items and they didn't have that many tables to begin with even including inside dining. Our pancakes took almost 40 minutes to come out and our sides never even came out with the pancakes which I thought was weird. The sides didn't come out for another almost 15 minutes. By the time everything was out my son was getting fussy so I just asked for everything to be packed up to go. The high chair was also dirty and oily with food still on the sides and not cleaned at all. I was talking to the family that sat next to us because the waiter who brought out their food messed up and brought their sides to another table dropped it off then found out the food was not at the right table and brought it straight to the right table after it's been sitting at the wrong table for a few minutes at that point! That family also said they waited a really long time for their food and their food didn't all come out at the same time either so it seems like this is normal. I also went to ask the hostess how much longer for our food before our pancakes came out few minutes later. She asked me how long it's been since I put in my order I said about 30 min already and she said oh that's sounds about right. So that just proves that food normally take this long to get out to the table! I'm used to way shorter wait times for breakfast foods this just didn't seem normal to me. Let's get to the food! I had the original pancakes with the blueberry and strawberry, got a side of scrambled eggs, sausages, and home fries. For drinks I got a fresh orange juice and my sister got the Dubai chocolate latte. The Dubai chocolate latte was delicious and so was the orange juice but definitely over priced for the portion size, but I guess it's acceptable being federal hill prices for most people? Personally I thought it was way overpriced not just the drinks but everything considering the proportions. The pancakes were ok didn't taste as eggy as I expected being that it's supposed to be more egg based which is totally fine the texture was good. The strawberries on top I thought were going to be fresh strawberries but it seems like it's more of a compote. The scrambled eggs were a little too charred for my liking I've never really had scrambled eggs charred before. Potatoes were ok for the most part in terms of flavor but my sister had some that were still kinda undercooked and hard. The sausages were really flavorful. This review is for the Puffcake Popup. I really hope this sticks around! I think it's been about a year and it's still very popular. We booked reservations for 9am and there were only a few tables occupied when we arrived, but by the time we left there were tons of people waiting outside. Not sure if they had reservations or not. Our server was very nice but definitely seemed busy and we occasionally had to wait for a while but it was all worth it. The fancy iced lattes are fabulous. I had a coconut ube one and loved it. Also loved the tropical souffle pancakes. The passion fruit syrup was very thick and sweet and I recommend dipping your fork in there and then into bites of pancake rather than pouring it all over, but that's just me. Review is for puffcake popup, not seafood. Been seeing these viral puff cakes on my socials for a minute and decided to finally try them for myself. Making a reservation online was easy peasy and so was parking since it was a Sunday and free :) Immediately greeted and seated for our reservation. Our server Destiny was prompt, friendly and energetic. All the staff were kind and friendly to be honest. We started out with some nifty lattes and a chocolate bomb hot cocoa that was as entertaining as it was delicious. Then came the puff cakes. The s'mores had a liquid chocolate topping that flowed like lava. The strawberry was smothered in custard and berries, and the plain were as advertised. Even though the smothered versions aren't quite as healthy, the toppings helped add some needed flavor. The light and airy risen puff cake by itself is a bit plain just like a regular plain pancake would be and just need a little something to add some flavor; even if it's just some maple syrup. Usually this place is cajun seafood boil place so this review will only cover their Japanese pancake offering. It's a restaurant located on federal hill. Parking can be difficult to find but we were able to find some parkings on the street beside the restaurant. They have covered patio and inside is rather smaller area with some seatings, counter and a bar. They seem to be busy so we did have our reservation which we made about hour prior to coming to the location. I would recommend for those that want to come here. Once we arrived we were immediately sat down and looked through their menu. They offer variety of Japanese fluffy pancake paired with sweets and fruits or savory option as well. They offer some drinks mainly lattes and juice. I ended up getting the breakfast scramble pancake and hot cocoa bomb. Food came out first. The breakfast came with 2 fluffy pancake, scrambled eggs with scallions, home fries, sausage, onions, and maple syrup. The pancake was fluffy and paired well with the sides. I feel like though something like hollandaise sauce would have taken the dish up a notch instead of just simple maple syrup. The hot cocoa bomb was interesting as you get the cup with marshmallow rim and a chocolate ball where you pour hot milk yo melt and mix the chocolate. Conceptually fun but chocolate wasn't great quality and didn't mix well and marshmallow rim was hard to eat. Taste was ok it ended up tasting like light chocolate and more milk since chocolate didn't mix well. Service was good and staffs were nice. The order came out in about 5-10 minutes Overall I think the place is ok. Definitely has its own place in RI because of the Japanese pancake offering which we don't see a-lot of place do yet. But aside from that food was ok and price was expensive for what they offer. I ended up paying about $80 for 2 pancake and drinks. I had Japanese fluffy pancake and drinks for about half of that price in Japan that was better quality. This past weekend, Rhode Island's first soufflé pancake experience by Puffcake began their pop-up at Capri Seafood Friday - Sunday from 10am-2pm (or until sold out-Limited quantities daily). On social media, I saw that the Japanese soufflé pancakes were sold out by 11:30am-12:00pm on Saturday, so I stopped by on Sunday, June 15th about 9:50am and there was already a queue outside Capri Seafood. At 10am, the doors opened and the hostess sat groups timed apart. This was my first time at Capri Seafood and the restaurant is very spacious. There is an outside patio with plenty of tables and seating inside. We got seated at 10:40am inside and by 11:00am, we were enjoying our drinks and Japanese soufflé pancakes. Paola was our server and she was very pleasant. I ordered the dragonberry matcha and tropical paradise soufflé pancakes. The dragonberry matcha had matcha, whole milk, dragon fruit, and strawberry infused cold foam. The drink was aesthetically pleasing and very good. The matcha was definitely a higher grade. Now, time for the pancakes. The pancakes are made fresh to order. The soufflé pancakes were jiggly, soft, fluffy, and airy, just like how the pancakes were when I had it in Japan. It is very on par, but maybe the pancakes in Japan were a little more airy since their eggs and ingredients are different, very negligible difference. Every bite melts in your mouth. The kiwi, strawberry, and mango were fresh. The syrup was tangy and zesty. It was very well done and so glad we can find Japanese soufflé pancakes right in Providence. I saw on social media on Sunday, the pancakes were sold out again. My husband had the Crème brûlée latte and the breakfast soufflé pancakes. He said both were very good. Though, he preferred the sweet pancakes over the savory pancakes. Puffcake pop-up at Capri Seafood is definitely worth checking out. Our waitress for this visit was super nice and professional. Food- loved the lobster roll, the bread was super buttery with the perfect toast. The lobster was perfectly cooked and sweet. Unfortunately the sweet potato fries were undercooked but still sweet. Now Paellas are hard if it's not something you really put time into. I was not impressed, parboiled rice is not my personal fav and the amount of tomato sauce that was used, too much. All I tasted was tomato in the rice. Not enough seafood just a few shrimp and clams (well cooked and flavorful) nothing else so i would suggest adding the lobster tail. And I didn't get a picture of the calamari but it's a must order if you like sweet and tangy! My wife ordered the seafood pasta and I opted for the Spicy Shrimp garlic noodles. The description of my dish did not mention that there would be soy sauce/oyster sauce and was unexpected based on the description. I thought the portion was small for the price and a bit on the salty side. My wife's dish could use more marinara sauce as it was described with "red" sauce. Her dish was also in the oily side and looked like a soggy lo mein dish. The kids opted for the burger but the menu did not reflect the change to the "wagu" burger. In addition for a party of 4, one would not expect for gratuity to be automatically included. I would have tipped anyway but had not seen this.
