We were very surprised on the portion size as it was larger than expected. Now to the first bite. All of the food we ordered was excellent. The pairing of the sauce with the crab cakes, the flavor combinations in the burger and the soft succulent lobster in the lobster roll were out of this world. We had an amazing Father's Day lunch here, sat outside and the weather was PERFECT. Couldn't have asked for a better day! Service was 10/10 and the food was 11/10. We all got soups to start with: french onion soups and chowder. Gotta say, it was one of the best French onion soups I've had. Even the chowder was up there! Entrees were: filet mignon, salmon, 2 lb stuffed lobster, wedge salad with scallops, and pastrami sandwich...with a side of truffle fries and Mac N Cheese. My scallops were juicy and cooked perfectly with the perfect seasoning. I'm still thinking about them to this day. The 2lb stuffed lobster was literally stuffed with huge pieces of scallops and big shrimp! The side of Mac N Cheese can feed a family of four alone. I didn't try the other foods bc I was too busy enjoying mine and trying to finish it. Oh! Forgot we also shared the wagyu tartare which had great flavor but kinda chewy. Maybe the pieces should be diced smaller. We're already thinking about making plans to go back this week and Father's Day was just last Sunday. was extremely disappointed with my experience at 22 Bowen's. I had planned a special proposal for my fiancée and made reservations ahead of time. I specifically called and asked if the restaurant could accommodate a special dessert plate with "Will You Marry Me" written on it, and the staff member assured me it would not be a problem. Unfortunately, when the moment came, nothing was done. I went to the front afterward to ask why the request was never fulfilled, and the manager simply told me, "We don't do that." It was upsetting and embarrassing, especially after being promised otherwise. A proposal is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and the lack of communication completely ruined what I had planned. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. My fish and chips were decent, but the fries were overly salty. My fiancée's Caesar salad was very dry, and we had to ask for additional dressing. The anchovies were also slimy, which completely turned her off from the dish. Overall, the experience was disappointing from both a service and dining perspective. Sadly, I would give this restaurant 1 star. read more

My wife and I went to 22 Bowen's to celebrate our anniversary. She has never been, and I haven't been in over a decade. The atmosphere was great despite a cloudy, rainy evening. I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry. read more

This was my favorite meal of our trip, & we hadn't planned for it. We were having coffee at the end of the pier and decided we needed something more substantial, after a verrrry late breakfast. Despite the fact that we were towards the end of the typical lunch crowd, after 1:20 pm, the place was still hopping. I'd recommend making a reservation in advance and requesting the upstairs seating section: they have the best view. My view was of the bar, the kitchen, and the hall leading to the bathrooms. Without a reservation, we were grateful for any table. Having spent 4 times the bill here on dinner the night before, we were delighted to discover they had a lunchtime menu special for just $22. I ordered their salad (originally out of "obligation" to assuage my nutritional guilt) & an enjoyed a gorgeous burger. Both were wonderful--the salad was really fresh and flavorful and paired so well with the burger's savory decadence. My partner ordered a cup of clam chowder, which she thought was excellent, and the same tasty burger. We both received very generous portions we were unable to finish. Service was friendly and allergy-aware. They had a coat check, which was a nice touch given our many layers in March. Staff were solicitous and plentiful. Spoke with at least one manager...maybe 2? Busy little spot in a great location on Bowen's Wharf right on the water. Food was quite good - steaks, lobster, chowder, and pasta all got good reviews from our group. Service was a little spotty (but that's probably just because they were busy). Took a minute for us to be seated, even though our table was vacant, because they "didn't schedule a busser for that area" so we had to wait a while for the server to get around to clearing and re-setting the table. They ran out of the whiskey I ordered but the waiter & the manager came over & offered me a tastings of other whiskeys until I found one I was satisfied with. They never called us to seat us at a table, instead at 8:45 we went back to the host stand to be seated (the restaurant had plenty of available tables at this point). The food was good. The oysters could have been shucked better. I was consuming a lot of shell pieces. We ordered the Tomahawk for 2 to share for our entree. It was good, nothing memorable. It was nice that you should choose a sauce/butter to accompany your steak at no additional charge. I did include in my reservation that my boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary which nobody acknowledged. We never expect anything but just the acknowledgment would have been nice after all we are celebrating a special occasion and the meal did not come cheap. Overall it was a good experience, not a great one and I probably wouldn't recommend to others considering how many other really great restaurants are in the area. read more

Before even sitting at our table, this restaurant won us over as lifetime customers. We were greeted with a handwritten card signed by the entire staff thanking us for celebrating our anniversary (something we only casually noted when making the reservation). It's those small, thoughtful touches that make this place extraordinary. Having grown up working in restaurants, I can say this kind of care is beyond meaningful, it's rare and incredibly special. Our waitress was simply phenomenal (I wish I'd caught her name- she deserves a raise). This was easily the best steak and overall dinner I've ever had, paired with the most perfect ambiance. When we couldn't decide on dessert, she made sure (despite a packed, multi-level, bustling restaurant and bar) that we left with dessert to go on the house. I almost don't want to recommend this place so we can keep our little upstairs table forever without ever worrying about missing out. Truly unforgettable. Truly delicious.
