One of the best meals I've had in recent memory. We sat at the bar where you can see the cooks work their magic which set the tone wonderfully. We started off with drinks --gin dirty martini and a classic old fashion, both were perfectly made and crisp. Food: Appetizer-warm bread with butter was a nice starter. However I wish we got the escargot with bone marrow as we watched it being made it looked and smelled delicious. Entrees- we split a 27 oz ribeye and the scallops. The steak was a beautiful cut of meat, well marbled, cooked to perfection and seared so nicely. It was sooo tasty and seared with Malden salt. We are pretty snobby when it comes to steak and this was probably the best steak I've ever had out at a restaurant. The scallops similarly were cooked and seared perfectly and seasoned correctly. Laid on a bed of watercress and potato fondant it was the perfect delicate bite and contrasted nicely with the steak. We got the side of brussel sprouts with peanut Rayu which was a beautiful flavor bomb. I can't say enough about the food. Every single thing we ordered was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I find that to be a rarity in today's restaurant scene. I could not recommend this place more. We were looking for a restaurant for date night and came across TSK online. After seeing positive reviews, we decided to give it a try. We started with the Caesar salad which was pretty good. We also ordered the bread and butter which was underwhelming for something so simple. For our main course, we had the bone-in ribeye steak. Unfortunately, the steak was chewy which was disappointing, especially for the price. The brown butter sauce was delicious and definitely helped. The restaurant itself is very cute inside. I was a little leery of TSK Thames Street Kitchen because of a few things we kept seeing creep up in reviews: the noise and comments about tastes. Our experience completely redeemed the place on those concerns: every bite of food we had was _delicious_ and prepared in a masterly way. And the noise . . . well, it just wasn't even remarkable. It's a popular place, sure, but it's not a madhouse or anything. (I can think of two other nearby places that were a LOT louder than TSK on the nights we visited them.) Okay, but the service - friendly and . . . seemingly caring . . . but - I don't know, not always on top of things? Some things were instantly noted and addressed, others - well, there were big gaps of time between check-ins . . . and it wasn't an especially busy time. Also a couple reasonably major life events that had been noted when making the reservation were not even remarked upon: it was just sort of, "Here's your supper!" We'd certainly go back - the folks in the kitchen are fantastic and I want more of what they make - heck, I'd go back today. My favorite dining experience in Newport. Amazing steaks (tried filet and hangar) and sides (fingerling mashed potatoes and glazed carrots special). The tomato and burrata special appetizer was one of the few times in my life that I loved the taste of a tomato. Notes: the sides are pretty large...we had 2 for 2 people and had leftovers. Came here with a reservation in a Thursday night and this place does not disappoint! we loved having a seat at the bar and watching the open kitchen work. the food was delicious and service was excellent and super fast. we got the mission cut steak (31 ounces) with the bonito brown butter and it was so unique and tasted amazing. the apps were good - we definitely liked the bone marrow and escargot! our one piece of advice would be to make an earlier reservation because they only have a set quantity of the mission cut steak and set sizes, we originally wanted a smaller amount but 31 ounces was the smallest steak they had left. would definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting newport! read more

Went as a group of 4 on Monday night. Made reservation a few days before. First impression is the ambiance. Very Newport quaint and well kept. Cozy, neat, and not pretentious. We ordered family style: - Raviolo: Big single ravioli. Delicious potent flavor but only enough for 1 spoonful each person. Glad we had bread to mop up the sauce. - Marrow and Escargot: Clean, didn't feel heavy. Not as flavorful as the raviolo. Bread was amazing (warm, perfectly toasted thick cut). - Halibut: so soft, we didn't even need a knife to divide it up. - NY strip: lean and nailed the requested temperature (medium rare plus). Amazing with the grilled garlic and horseradish cream. - Mushrooms: delicious side dish with wild looking mushrooms and a subtle cheese. I could eat a second order. - Latkes: crisped perfectly! - Snap Pea Gibson: this cocktail might replace my favorite drink (gimlets). So refreshing: cool, strong, and impressively balanced. Don't let the small cup fool you. All the cheeses and creams were surprisingly not heavy. That said, all 4 of us was full after. Service was no frills: nice, checked in just the right amount of times. I'm not really a $$$ type of diner anymore because few places feel worth the price but TSK delivered. If you're going to close for a week, put it on your website, put it on your Google listing, put it where people can actually see it. Newport has many great restaurants, but this is the best food in town by far. It is pricey, but well worth every penny. Have been here a couple of times. Sat on the patio outdoors the first time and dined indoors on return visits. Bread appetizer is delicious and cocktails are great too. Steaks are cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful. Have had filet mignon as well as NY strip. Definitely get the brown butter Benito sauce. It is probably the best sauce I have ever tasted. We were looking for a special meal on our weekend in Newport. This is an intimate restaurant with a limited, streamlined menu that clearly evokes confidence and an intention to rise to a higher level. So this review is based on that higher standard. We sat at the Chef's Bar. We were so close to the kitchen that at times it got hot, but it was worth seeing the preparation of all the dishes, especially the meat dishes. The chef and cooks were skilled, competent and confident. The execution was clearly consistent dish after dish, so the staff were executing the chef's vision accurately. Presentation was good. The wait staff also were well trained and attentive, and the wine list had nice selections at reasonable prices. Skill, presentation and wine got the 3 stars here. Where this restaurant missed its mark was on flavor. We had three of the supposed standout dishes and none of them impressed us. The Caesar salad had an inventive presentation in layered form (by assembling in a bowl, then inverting), but it tasted like a milky mess. The anchovy was just a big chunk at the end. Where was the lemon to brighten the dish? There was no bite from properly aged, quality Parmesan or Romano. What did they put into this dressing? The raviolo was our second appetizer. As you slice open the raviolo, an egg yolk spills out. This, admittedly, involves skill and would have impressed me if it was my first time, but I've had that trick about 4 times now (the first time 20 years ago in SF), so now I'm looking for flavor. The choice of flavors here just didn't make sense. The egg yolk should be the star, not just visually, but in terms of flavor. But it gets completely drowned by a soupy carbonara sauce outside. You're not going to taste anything except cream and bacon (lardon), so why bother crafting that raviolo? Couldn't taste the egg yolk. Couldn't taste the ricotta spinach filling. Just tasted carbonara. Lastly, we both got the mission cut steak with bonito brown butter sauce. Again, presentation was excellent and my steak was cooked perfectly rare. I had about a third of the steak with the sauce, but stopped because the bonito ultimately made the sauce too fishy. The remaining two thirds of the steak I ate plain. Not just because I didn't add sauce, but apparently because the chef didn't add any seasoning. I couldn't even taste any salt or pepper. In the kitchen, I could see these steaks already partially cooked, waiting to go into the oven, but I have to wonder what the preparation was, because nothing they did seemed to impart any flavor. This was not a $100 steak. The steak should stand on its own. The sauce should make it better, but the sauce alone does not make it a $100 steak (especially since the sauce costs extra!). The side of smashed fingerling potatoes was good, as was the roasted shallot and garlic. The shallot and garlic were good because they were allowed to shine as their own flavors. But so many other dishes weren't allowed to shine. I watched the chefs prepare the broccolini appetizer about a dozen times. It looked fantastic coming out of the pan -- bright green and crunchy. They placed it on a smear of tahini. Great. And then they drowned it in either bacon bits or fried shallots. And that killed the appeal. Is the dominant flavor going to be the vegetable or the fried topping? Overall, I would say the menu here suffered from richness piled on richness. There was a lot of cream, a lot of bacon, a lot of butter. These are fine, but in balance and in service of flavor. In all three dishes, the flavors were muddled, indistinctive, or drowned out. When everything is heavy, nothing gets to rise to the top. read more

Came in with a small group for a Friday evening dinner. Sat outside on the patio since the weather was perfect. We had young lady who was not our server, not sure who she was, but she explained the menu in great detail. Her recommendations did not miss. When we met the "official server" she seemed less than thrilled to be serving. We had to flag her down to order additional drinks and food. We all ordered the 1/2 chicken (due to the recommendation) and it was AMAZING! We capped it off with the ice cream sandwiches and it was tempting to not keep ordering them. The best meal and experience I've had in a while. We were able to get last minute reservations at the Chef's bar. The best seats in the house!! The entire kitchen is right in front of you, you're able to interact a bit more with the staff. My date and I both got the filets and they were perfection. We ordered the bordelaise sauce, bonito brown butter and bernaise butter. My partner's favorite was the bonito brown butter, and mine was the bernaise. We also ordered the broccolini with romesco and pecorino. Cooked to perfection and had a little kick we weren't expecting. I appreciate their menu included three mocktails. I had something with passion fruit and lime. Delicious! My partner had Whiskey Drink and an Espresso Martini with dessert. Enjoyed both! Speaking of dessert they had a special of chocolate chip cookies with mascarpone and a butterscotch sauce, delicious! We also had the chocolate pot de creme, basically chocolate moose, and we could have just had the moose itself and been more than happy. The staff is just as wonderful as the food. Then we shared a big porterhouse fish, broccolini, and finished with a cheesecake dessert. The fish was very flavorful and filling. The toasts were spicy and the flavor profile was sophisticated. The restaurant was sweet, we were seated at the kitchen which was fun to see and while the host was not the nicest, the staff that waited on us were all friendly. The food, however, was all lacking. The halibut was dry, contained countless small bones and was bland. The hanger steak was thick, tough and dry. The shishito peppers were undercooked and the potato latkes were tasty but was bathed in too much oil. We were so looking forward to this meal and were so very upset when we left. My husband and I came here on our recent trip to Newport and I'm sure glad we stopped here. Since it was a last second Trip, all of the restaurants we had looked up were fully booked, when we looked up this restaurant, they did have a few spots left outside and we figured what's wrong about Newport outside?! The restaurant is easy to find there is a public parking lot down the street a little walk -forewarning it is very expensive to park in Newport cost us $53 for three hours. My husband is a huge fan of escargot and so we got the bone marrow appetizer, I personally do not enjoy snails so I skipped over that bit, but I did dip my bread roll in the Marow and it was very tasty with a garlic ramp kind of pesto. Our entrées were fantastic. You can tell this meat is high-quality and it was cooked to absolute perfection. The flavors of the steak by itself are phenomenal. You don't even truly need a sauce with it, but we did indulge and each try a different sauce I tried the one classified as a chimichurri type sauce it was great very refreshing very light. My husband got their signature brown butter sauce, which has a fish flake miso to it so it did have an Asian vibe to the sauce We decided to just share the mashed potatoes as our side. It was plenty of food. The mashed potatoes were really really good. I do highly recommend them chunky creamy. The service was great. Our waitress was very sweet and conscious of timing out our dinner appropriately. The one regret we have is that we did not treat ourselves to dessert. We had seen their soufflé online and really wanted to give it a shot, but we were just so full. If we return to Newport, we will for sure be giving this place another visit! read more

Visited just before the holidays. Overall good but they have usually done a bit better. Probably staffing issues and the holiday rush. We of course get the warm bread EVERY time. We split 2 orders of oysters, "shrimp and grits" (that was not as advertised but were 3 jumbo shrimp in a sauce), scallops, swordfish, and pork. A nice evening and we left happy. When we finally sat down, we wait quite some time for anyone to greet us and offer a beverage (or even water!) The hostess finally came over and got us water. Our server finally came over and took our order but pretty much ignored us for the rest of our meal. The starters arrived promptly but the mains took forever to arrive. The Raviolo was good. I lapped the yolk up with the Warm Bread. For my taste, the Tuna Crudo was underwhelming. The tuna was not cut cleanly and the sauce was bland. As for mains, we shared the Poussin, which was excellent! The chicken was tender and bursting with flavor. The Striped Bass, our other selection was moist, but kind of bland. There are definitely other dishes that looks good at TSK, but they definitely need to work on service. read more

TSK is not only my favorite restaurant in Newport, but possibly my favorite restaurant in the state. This unassuming, cozy downtown spot specializes in fusion food made with a menu that is frequently changing to include the freshest, most seasonal ingredients. On my most recent outing, I shared a fantastic scallop crudo which was really fresh, nicely balanced, and the perfect start to the meal. We enjoyed it so much we considered putting in a second order. We also ordered the mushroom toast and the bone marrow escargot. The mushroom toast, which came with a medley of different mushrooms was one of my favorites of the night. I don't typically order chicken as an entree when I eat out. because it can sometimes be boring but I'm a sucker for piri piri. And based on their late and much lamented sister restaurant Winner Winner which specialized in chicken, I had the utmost confidence that it would be delicious and it exceeded expectations. For dessert, don't sleep on the chocolate chip cookies. If you like your cookies extra chewy and extra salty, these are for you. I also want to shout out some of the dishes from previous menus that live on in my memory, including the smoked mussel toast and the lobster with miso butter.
