Chicken Francese Chicken Marsala
Juliana V.

Saw this place on and the great reviews on here and figured we'd give it a shot 2 hours before a hockey game in Providence. When we walked in, it was quiet--3 full tables. We sat down, looked at our menus, and about 10-15 mins later we got our waters. When we ordered our food, I asked if they had capellini for my Chicken Francese. Our waitress responded, "No, we don't, but the closest thing we have to it is linguini...but we also have angel hair, penne, and spaghetti." I was a bit confused; capellini is much closer to angel hair than linguini! Same with spaghetti! Brushed it off and my BF ordered a chicken piccata. Couldn't help but notice that the 4 people behind us (who were there before us) didn't order their drinks or food until about 10-15 mins after us, but they got their food 35 mins BEFORE us (we actually started keeping track, we were there for 45-50 mins at this point). We got our food and my boyfriend was very confused because they delivered a chicken Marsala instead of his chicken Piccata; I didn't even notice. He only orders chicken piccata from one other place, so it took him a minute to realize what he had been served... he tried it, thinking that we could just wrap up our experience since we were already running late, took 2 bites and said it wasn't something he liked so he put it at the end of the table. Unfortunately, I had already finished my meal by the time the waitress came over to check on us. No apology for messing up his order, but a, "oh, would you enjoy this?" My boyfriend was stunned. The piccata came out 15-20 mins after this interaction. I enjoyed my chicken Francese and he enjoyed his picatta. Luckily, our shrimp cocktail and peroni were comp'd but I'm not sure why they couldn't just take the meal off at that point -- it was like $4 extra for something that we didn't order in the first place. We were about 30 mins late to the game that we planned well ahead for. Maybe it was a bad night, but this was not a good first impression. TLDR: Service was horrible, food was good.

I cannot recommend Anthony's enough! The food was delicious. We are from out of town and our waitress made this visit amazing! We were not even hungry but the food was so good, we kept eating. The fried smelts were juicy and tasteful. The D-Branzino was like no other. This quaint place is perfect for some real Italian food!!! When they say home cooked and fresh Italian...... this is what they are talking about! This is a must for some authentic highly-rated options on Rhode Island.

Sung to the song the theme from love story... Where do I begin? A lovely waitress in this very charming space and artichoke temptress is the first thing on our plate ... and then the soup extraordinaire... So satisfied yet the entrees still to come. We wonder if we will ever get done and then the food arrives and now theres none. Where do we go from here... The ice sorbet it's clear!

The ambiance of the restaurant is small but cozy. Dimly lit so nice for a date night. Our waitress Mina was amazing and very kind. I went with her recommendation of the shrimp scampi with a replacement of Alfredo sauce and it was absolutely delicious and just what I was looking for with angel hair pasta and creamy rich sauce. Everything is made fresh so it does take a little while after ordering to actually get your food but it well worth the wait. The reheat value for the pasta is actually pretty good as well as the sauce doesn't separate when reheating. This is my new go to spot for pasta in providence. I would rate my pasta the shrimp scampi 9/10

Great place to stop for lunch. Parking was easy as they have their own lot. For 17.99 you get a large salad or cup of soup, a main dish and a dessert. The main dish was a large serving of chicken Marsala and pappardelle bolognese. Both were tasty. The highlight of lunch was the rich chocolate ice cream and homemade cannoli. Our waitress Tayla was attentive and very sweet.

This place has been at the end of Federal Hill forever. We finally got here! We came a little early for dinner, since we didn't have reservations, and didn't know if we'd actually need them. There is a small, tight parking lot on the side of the building, as well as on street parking. This is a small restaurant, with a huge bar on one side, and tables on the other. We were offered outdoor dining, but opted to sit inside. Our server, Alessandra, was awesome, calm, and easy going. As the restaurant filled up, Alessandra and the only other waitress we saw took care of the entire restaurant! There was the bartender, too, even though Alessandra made my drink! That, was delicious! Limoncello Spritz! We started with a special appetizer of stuffed zucchini flowers. They were delicious, and so was the sauce they were sitting on. What was disappointing was that there were only 3 flowers in the order, and 1 was pretty small. They were pricey for 3 flowers. For dinner, I ordered chicken Capri with homemade pappardelle pasta. I thought that the chicken, made with artichokes and red roasted peppers, was delicious. It would have been nice to have more of the peppers, tho. The pasta was a bit gummy, like it needed another minute to cook. It was a bit bland in the wine sauce the chicken was cooked in. Next time, I would get it with red sauce. My husband had the chicken Parm, which he said was good - pounded and cooked crispy. Just enough cheese. He would have preferred more sauce. He had rigatoni pasta with it. The Italian bread and oil with roasted garlic was delicious too. We would definitely come here again. In fact, I already know what I'm having!!!

I love the food at Anthony's. Their lunch specials are around $18 now and they include soup or salad, an entree and a dessert. I loved the chicken escarole soup, full of vegetables and pieces of white chicken meat in a savory broth, a bit salty for my taste, but I added some water and it was perfect. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo was really good. Three large jumbo shrimp pieces on a bed of pasta...I asked for the sauce on the side, since I don't like pasta too sauce nor too salty...the dish was really delicious and tasty. For dessert, I got a ball of cookies and cream ice cream...delish. Along with my meal, I got a glass of their house wine, a cabernet from Sycamore Lanes and I was pleasantly surprised at this inexpensive California winery that delivers a nice smooth and robust glass of wine. Excellent service by Michelle.

Service was happy to serve and give great suggestions. Food the bread they serve may not be fresh. Ours center was cold. The ambiance is Mafia style. They do have parking on the side. It's not a lot of cars but it is on the side. If you come ask for Devin. He's a very good server. Great suggestions

I decided that I wanted to go to the hill and get some pizza. Obviously, there are options. After driving down Atwells Ave this little place presented itself. They have parking! Sold! The inside is cute with a full bar, tables and some booths. We went in and enjoyed very friendly service on this Saturday afternoon. The server was quick to refill my ice water and the pizza was delicious. I want to come back and try other menu items.

We have friends in the area who had heard of the place, but had never gone, so we made a reservation (2.5 months ahead for a 4 some on a Friday, so it must be special...) and finally got to see what the fuss was about. (Still wondering.) We started with what ended up being a high point, "beets and frites." A very interesting take with a lot of frites, not enough beets (5 slices under the stack), and about 2 tablespoons of the lemon aioli. The few tastes of the 3-part combination were great. The frites, crisp and soooo thin, were good on their own. The olive oil that came with the bread was very green (young), with a strong flavor but I was surprised that there was no pepper grinder. I had the (special) cod, which came with a lazy prep of broccoli rabe and OK potatoes. The fish was cooked well, moist and fresh, but I'm still not sure what the flavorless green topping was. Our table also had oxtail ravioli, which consisted of tasty little purses of thin pasta and nicely flavored meat inside. (Probably the best entree, and gained the second star.) The eggplant was unremarkable in terms of flavor of the sauce, and the veggies that went into it did not seem to be very fresh. For dessert, we had rhubarb peach tart and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was mostly crust and very shy on the rhubarb. The bread pudding apparently used Hershey's chocolate powder which was not a great flavor and left a grainy texture. The server was not very friendly, somewhat pushy, and insisted that we order the dessert when we ordered everything else. Allegedly, this was because the dessert is made to order, but we had the impression that it was to expedite our table time. Even so, with all that "careful planning" only 3 of the 4 entrees made an entry and we waited quite a while for the 4th to show up, even after asking. Overall, not a good experience and not a place I'll plan to revisit.

Our server, Dwight, seemed rushed and inattentive throughout the evening. From the start, we felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. We asked if we could move to a nearby table that was already set for eight, as our current table was cramped and located in a very tight walkway where people constantly brushed past us. We were told the table was reserved, yet from the time we arrived just before 6:00 PM until we left at 8:45 PM, no one was ever seated there. It was frustrating, especially since the cramped space made our dining experience uncomfortable. Service overall was lacking. Dwight rarely checked on us, and when we tried to get his attention for drinks or assistance, he would quickly pass by before we had the chance to ask. It often felt like we were bothering him. We were not offered water, and getting additional beverages was unnecessarily difficult. The food itself was just okay, nothing memorable. When we ordered dessert and cappuccino, the cappuccino tasted like it was made with spoiled milk, but again, no one came back to check on us, so we had no opportunity to address it. The most disappointing moment was the birthday acknowledgment. We asked for a dessert with a candle to celebrate an 85th birthday, and instead received a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate, a small amount of whipped cream, and a candle. It was underwhelming and, honestly, a bit embarrassing. We would have gladly paid for a proper dessert. Jacob the busser was the only attentive one there. We have come to Pane e Vino every year for family birthdays because we've always enjoyed the atmosphere, but after this experience, we will not be returning.

I made a reservation for outdoor seating, and we were seated at the table right next to the kitchen door. Boy, was that an experience. Every five seconds, someone was running past us, and at one point, one of the waiters sideswiped a glass that fell and shattered right next to us, and he didn't even notice! One of the bussers was the one who saw it and promptly cleaned it up. We then waited about 15 minutes for our waitress without any menus, only for her to come over and tell us to scan the QR code, which wasn't even on our table. Yes, we could've looked up the menu online, but it would have been nice if the hostess had informed us of that when we were seated. I ordered the Hugo spritz, and my partner ordered the Aperol spritz. We waited another 20 minutes for our drinks, which tasted watered down, and you could tell they had probably been sitting at the bar for a while. We were given bread and olive oil to start, which tasted fresh. We then ordered the Funghi pizza and the Rotelloni Alla Vodka. The food came out pretty promptly, which, looking back, probably should have been a warning sign. The pizza was actually tasty, with a good wood-fired crust. The pasta, on the other hand, was not the best. The vodka sauce was very sweet and heavy on the cream. We added chicken, which was a pretty pricey addition, and unfortunately, it was quite dry and didn't taste very fresh. Overall, it was not the best experience, and we probably will not be returning.
