Nolan's is a perfect local bar, and seeing as I literally live right around the corner, it is MY local bar haha. Super affordable drinks and Brendan and staff are super great. Well kept pool table and generally the crowd here is fun and not obnoxious, which can deter me from some establishments. I'm not coming here for super fancy cocktails or anything like that, but if you are just looking to get a couple beers with friends, Nolans can't be beat. read more

If this place was closer to my hood, I think I'd become a regular. Nolan's is a great example of what can be achieved with cleanliness and good lighting. It's a no-frills "dive" bar, a rather polished and friendly one. (Not that dive bars aren't friendly, but you know what I mean.) The night we were there, they were playing some swanky jazz (a bit Mad Men-ish), which was a great juxtaposition to the place - chalkboard list of bottles and cans, old timey arcade game, flittering AC, dimly lit pool table. The bartender was all smiles n' banter, and was super apologetic when I asked for a new glass of soda water (he'd given me tonic by accident). The whole vibe of this place is fun and friendly. What was intended to be a pit stop on a Saturday night became a great chunk of the evening. Definitely worth checking out! read more

When I heard Brendan was opening a bar in Providence I was excited. The space was formerly the old Talk of the Town bar. If you had ever been to TOTT's you would barely recognize the inside. Low key lighting, newly painted walls, and music that doesn't drown out conversation give Nolan's a laid-back, inviting atmosphere. Oh, and the slowly spinning Schlitz globe is hypnotic. Trust me. Great Dump Nolan's, a dive bar at the end of Federal Hill. It's dark and very hipsteresque. Well here's the scoop Nolan's, they play good music and serve Schlitz kinger cans. (Not easy to find in RI) They also have a vast selection of craft beers for the beer snobs. To be honest, I think the place is bit pricey for the beat up bar atmosphere. So now that E&O is closed, I need another neighborhood bar to resort to on occasions when I don't want to drink at Trinity. Even though I've driven by for years, I had never stopped in until last month, but Nolan's, I like the way you look. OK, so it is predictably a bit hipster. the bartender is wearing a Carhartt jumpsuit and a knit hat and chunky glasses, but is generally nice. There is good stuff on tap, not a huge selection and not local but I'll take my stout from Colorado when I have to. there's a gaggle of 20-somethings on a bar crawl or something but not obnoixious. There's a couple old-timers stopping in for a budweiser and a comfy round booth. And there is massive sun hitting the west side of this little wedge-shaped space that they need heavy curtains to block it out. it's a bit of a walk but I will try to make it over here more often. read more

Gee, a bar with an Irish sounding name painted dark green inside? You don't say! Actually a super typical bar. Green walls, lone pool table, standard beer paraphernalia along the walls. Decent sized place that a lot of people flock to once the other west side bars close down at 12 and you already know scurvy is gonna be a disaster. Beers have been served up fast and never a bad pour. I haven't had any mixed drinks here yet. It's a bar. It's a good bar. It's the type of bar you go for drinks. By yourself or maybe with friends. There is a pool table. An arcade machine. They give free hotdogs on Monday. You can go there to cry or go there to celebrate. It's a place you go when the liquor store is closed. Drinks are cheap and the staff is nice. You can smoke cigs out front and watch people get flashed for the red light. Moral is, bars are diverse some are big some are loud some are hidden some are corporate . I've determined the best way to describe Nolan's to someone who's never been here. Nolan's is either an old-man bar frequented by hipsters, or a hipster bar frequented by old men. Either way it's the best place to go if you like black hoodies and beards that are starting to show a tiny bit of gray. read more

My favorite "locals" bar. This where I go when I want a cheap beer and a chat with a salty bartender (I'm looking at you Brian!) or friends from the neighborhood. For me what makes this bar one of my favorites is the monthly themed karaoke. The clever caveat of a free drink in exchange for singing a song from the list ensures a good turn out, a relief from the same karaoke standards and everyone bringing their A game. Good spot. Great staff. The beer selection is always great, and the karaoke is a blast. Perfect stop on your way across 'the hill'.

Classic corner dive bar. Very kind staff but they're all friends so maybe I'm biased. Would've given them five stars but had to dock them because THEIR F******* TABLES WOBBLE. You could say that's par for the course in a dive but it is absolutely unacceptable in an establishment that serves drinks. read more

Much better than TOTT, I will give you that! Always clean inside, too, although it does have a gross stale beer smell that hits you in the face when you open the door. Not in the best area and I would think twice before trying to walk here, but you can usually park out front. Some staff are great (I want to say Chris was his name) and I have heard the owner is a nice guy, but the too cool for school punk lady bartender has the worst attitude I've come across in any Prov bar in years, and I've spent a lot of time hanging out at Julian's. Even on a busy night, I shouldn't have to ask for a beer four times because your bartender is busy flirting with some guy at the bar, right? Disappointing. read more

Nice little hipster dive bar with good beer, big buck hunter, and a pool table. Crowd tends to be pretty young (they check everyones id). Prices are decent for providence and the craft beer selection is good and they seem to have pretty clean draft lines (not always a given in Providence). read more

I love this bar. It's the perfect neighborhood watering hole, with cheap prices and extremely friendly service. $3.00 tallboys and cheap-ass well drinks, as well as a decent selection of craft beers on draft.
