Huge fan! This place is not far from where my parents house is. Haven't grown up in this neighborhood. I'm shocked that I never even discovered this place until my friend tried to take me to it a few months ago and we couldn't get food because the kitchen was closed. Anyway, I found myself back here because I was hungry and I needed a place close by so I ended up here. I actually like coming in the late afternoon so you can avoid the college crowd. The bartender, I couldn't catch his name but he has a baseball hat and longish hair was super chill and super friendly. Totally love that guy. Very friendly vibe and he set the tone for the place. Ended up getting Blueberry beer which was excellent and not overly fruity The food is on point Pulled pork sandwich which came with coleslaw as my side and it was loaded with tater tots. I actually thought the portion was very generous, very filling and it was very tasty. Irish red ale which was quite good Sour ale which was also excellent. Almost had a raspberry taste to it. Didn't get to try the burgers. I think I would in future. Bathroom is a little tight but it's clean. I really like the ambiance of the place. Parking is on the street and in the neighborhood. If you don't like the under 21 crowd, definitely come in the afternoon. It has more of a neighborhoodb vibe and the patrons are very friendly. Overall, if you're in the area I definitely recommend this place. When I visit my folks I will be back for sure.

I had been here two years ago and thought it was great, but I forgot the name and never came back. I had a friend suggest getting drinks here after work when it dawned on me that this is the place I had forgotten!! They got a decent tap list, extensive menu with awesome burger options, and friendly staff at The Abbey. I would recommend going in the summer before the Friars are back in town so you don't have to deal with the crowds. I'm glad I was able to come back after a long drought!

A local joint that is also a hang og for students. Not a spot for intimate conversations but certainly a great spot for a boisterous happy hout with friends. The burgers ate out of this world but I was mildly disappointed that my request to skip the special sauce was ignored. I applaud the gals managing the room. There is a whole lot of stuff going on!

What a great spot and it's two miles from Us ! We went with friends and enjoyed our time there. We all had burgers and they were so juicy ! I had the buffalo one and that' sauce was killer. I had home made chips for a side and they were so crispy. If you are a beer lover they have 92 beers ! So many craft beers it's amazing. Our server was wonderful and attentive. Kept our drinks full and checked in on us often. We are a little older than most folks in there , it's def a younger crowd but that would not deter us from going there again. Highly recommend.

The crazy thing is I've driven by here probably 100 times in 10 years (I work in the vicinity) and have never stopped in because I have always presumed It was a Providence college hang out and I'm in my 50s. Came in tonight with some friends who aren't from Providence proper but had heard of it. I said "Hell that's only 5 minutes away". It's across the street from LaSalle Bakey on Admiral St. As soon as I walked in, I knew this was my kind of place - lots of dark wood, multiple beers on tap and a fridge full of canned & bottled beer. My fellow diners got an order of the onion rings, which looked like deep-fried donuts. I opted with the chicken wings with Jack's sauce (I think it was a sweet Bourbon sauce). Our waitress Nicole was knowledgeable, affable and insanely smart. They had a Kolsch on tap (which is pretty rare around here) and the atmosphere was completely laid back. I would be all in on a full 5 star rating for the Abbey if not for the persistent and annoying presence of those pesky bar flies present both in the dining area and in the rest rooms. But apart from that, the food for our table was prepared as requested, fully cooked and delicious. I will be frequenting the Abbey again, mostly because I despise the choices on Mineral Spring Ave

Absolutely delicious burger, one of the best in town! The pretzel roll on the Highwayman burger was spectacular. Would definitely go back again.

Always a good time when coming here. It's a nostalgic dive bar with a great collection of music. And def start with an order of Chicken Wings - the 3 amigos sauce is the perfect blend- Buffalo- BBQ- Honey Mustard- not too sweet and not too hot the perfect taste. The burgers - what!!!! You can't go wrong. I had a RoadHouse Burger and yesss the traditional has not tasted much better! The bun was toasted perfectly- the burger tasty and cooked great and the sauces are all delicious. What can I say- another good dinner here backed by the awesome service. I will be back!!

This snug, humble neighborhood pub not only offers the best burgers in town, but I'm told at one point was voted best burger spot in America in a USA Today article. My buddy and I couldn't decide between the Highwayman (beef patty, ham and egg, bbq sauce) or the Couch Potato (bbq pork, crumbled blue cheese, sautéed onion). So we ordered both and traded halves. That proved to be the right menu hack. Both were extraordinary sandwiches, each bite a perfectly balanced flavor explosion. I paired mine with a Down East blue slushee cider. Only complaint were the fries - a bit mushy and fairly meh flavor-wise. But the burgers more than compensated. Service was quick and friendly, despite a packed house. Come early, come hungry. 5* = incredible (rare) 4* = very good/ strong desire to return 3* = generally good experience 2* = poor/ no desire to return 1* = a particularly awful experience

We love their Jay Burger. It's like a Swiss mushroom burger. They always make it juicy, moist, delicious. As you bite into the burger, you can taste the nice mushroom pieces, the sauce, the cheese and all the trimmings. Very good burger. We love their tater tots which are always crispy, crunchy and moist on the inside. Our friend Mechelle got the onion rings and they were delicious as well. The place gets busy during peak hours, but it's all worth it. Sometimes it gets loud as well, but hey...it's a tavern.... Plenty of street parking.

During quarantine, my husband and I have sought out takeout from whatever places are offering it during this time. A craving for a solid burger led us here. The Abbey did not disappoint! We both got burgers on pretzel buns with Cajun mayo to dip our burger and fries in. The burger was huge and juicy and the pretzel bun was the perfect compliment. And the fries??? Those are some of the best I've ever had. How have I never been here before? Well I'm so glad I did, Bonus: you can get their variety of beer cans to-go.

Ask the Community - The Abbey

Does this turn into a college bar at night? Being so close to PC I would imagine it is overrun by college kids during the school year? If not is it a good place to bring my wife?

It really depends on the time of year and when you go. I think it would be more crowded over the weekend with college kids and locals. But there lunch crowd and dinner crowd seem very mild during the week.

It's also very shareable (thought I took a pic but didn't..oops!). The churros were crispy and came in 4 pieces with a side of chocolate to dip. It was good but could be a bit softer inside. Overall, good spot to meet up for drinks and snacks! Service: Our waitress was super attentive and very nice. She checked in on us often. Ambiance: It's a nice spot. Looks like a big log cabin and plenty of tables and seatings. Great for watching sports too. There was a singer there for the night and he was good! There's also a parking lot in the front. Food on floor, tables had a crayon used as a shim to keep from wobbling. It even smelled like a greasy old friendlys. I watched someone clear 2 tables and not wipe them down (he apologized and wiped them down after). I canceled my food order and paid for my two sodas. They were very nice about it, so extra star for not being rude to me but the owner really needs to have this place deep cleaned and make some updates. I remember coming here to the grand opening and really loving it here. We often visit the one in Smithfield and it's clean and food always delicious. I felt bad but I'm a little OCD (I'm a nurse) and have had food poisoning in the past. If the common areas are dirty I worry what the kitchen looks like.
