Rough around the edges The Bottom Line Bar & Grill is a neighbor type of place that is located close to where the old Rocky Point Amusement Park use to be. I suspect at one time this place use to be a lot wilder and crazier but even now it becomes obvious to the most casual observer that this is not a sophisticated or snooty type of bar. Even though it is a bit rough in spots the inside is surprising clean and well lit during the day and they actually serve up a pretty good and inexpensive breakfast and lunch. However it is during the later and darker hours that this place really comes alive. After the sun goes down the place becomes quite dim and usually very loud with various types of hillbilly rock blasting thought the small joint. All sorts of interesting folks come through here, some for a quick drink, others to play pool or talk with friends for hours. Although some of the patrons might look a bit scruffy I haven't noticed very many altercations, at least no really serious ones. Definitely not the place to go for a quiet drink or to impress a date. This is the type of place to go and drink yourself into oblivion, get some munchie food, hear some loud music, play some pool or meet and talk to some interesting people. Totally unpretentious and unrefined, the type of place to go to have some fun.

The moment we stepped inside, it had that classic neighborhood bar feel & was bursting with character & authenticity. The vibe is no frills, down-to-earth & completely unpretentious. Just the essentials: good food at a great price, full bar & staff that knows what they're doing. Regulars chat like old friends & first-timers get a look but fit right in. Hubby zeroed in on the snail salad listed on the whiteboard & couldn't resist ordering it. It ended up being the thinnest-shaved scungilli either of us has ever eaten! Was it the best snail salad I've ever had (Uncle Tony's in Cranston still has that rank for me)? No... but it was super tender & flavorful. Would we order it again? Yes. A quick heads-up: it's cash-only, but fortunately, there's an ATM onsite so settling your tab is never an issue. Whalen Cafe is one of those classic local gems that remind you why neighborhood spots matter.

Great food, good beer, and I love the local atmosphere- it definitely has vibes from my childhood of down to earth and no frills but with everything that you need and a great bartender. It was cash only when I went. I ordered the hot Italian grinder and it rocked my world!

So, I was understandably hesitant about a new bar moving into what was considered by many to be hallowed ground. Since I walk by it on my way home from work, I decided to stop in soon after it first opened to see what it was like. And now I am a regular and it's one of my favorite watering holes in the city. Super cool atmosphere, with tons of horror movie memorabilia on the walls. A couple of pinball machines ( including a brand new Evil Dead one which is really sweet), and neat liitle outback area for nicer days. They also occasionally have music and drag shows inside, and in the summer months cool shows outside in the parking lot next door. You can also grab a grilled cheese or a hot dog from Puggles Grilled Cheese most days of the week if you're feeling peckish. And my favorite thing... PICKLEBACKS.... !!!! All the drinks are cheap and they have a good selection of beers and ciders. Maybe most importantly, the owners Jeff and Courtney are absolutely lovely people who really understood keeping the locals vibe of the E & O era but also being it's own thing. Definitely support this great establishment.

On St. Patrick's Day, I watched multiple bartenders yelling at each other in plain sight of the customers. It was uncomfortable and honestly just sad to witness at a place I've always loved. We left and went elsewhere. It also made sense of something I'd been noticing on recent visits, the place has been unusually quiet for what it had always been. Having been a regular through many staff changes over the years, I can say with confidence that the current bartenders simply don't represent what McKinley's is and what it stands for. I am not the first to state this. The right staff sets the tone for the whole place -- and right now, this group is chipping away at the local reputation and vibe that it's known for. I say all of this as someone who genuinely loves this place and wants to keep coming back. I really hope ownership and management take a hard look at what's happening, because the people behind the bar right now, I believe, are the reason regulars are walking out early, not coming back as often, or even coming back at all. They're definitely starting to get a reputation in our small town. There are too many great local spots to settle for an experience like this. It's unfortunate to write this, but the talk is getting very loud and somebody had to.

There are little details everywhere you look and it feels fun, warm and intentionally designed without trying too hard. It is such a great space for a gathering. The food was delicious. Everything was fresh, flavorful and perfect for grazing during a cocktail-style event. The winter cranberry spritz was basically all of my favorite flavors in one glass. So so good. Their cocktail and mocktail menu really shines and I cannot wait to go back and try more. As someone with food intolerances, I asked plenty of questions and everyone was friendly, patient and helpful with both menu guidance and cocktail suggestions. That always makes such a difference. There was even parking, which is a huge bonus. This is the perfect spot for a winter cocktail party or a fun night out. I will definitely be gathering my girls and heading back soon.
