I don't write reviews, BUT I had to go out of my way to share my visit at Blackies. from the minute I picked up the phone to call and make a res. Katarina was inviting and fresh, I don't even know where to start, this place was suggested to me by a good friend (he is a well respected chef) menu is out of control, we had pulled pork nachos (out of this world) t bone, salmon and my breakfast burger was stupid good. So i'm eating my burger that came with house made chips and a hostess comes over and says I have to try the sweet potato fries, two minutes later she brings them to the table, and OOOOO MY GOD the sauce made me lets just say very EXCITED...and come to find out she was not a hostess but the one of the owners...and the chef was always out and checking on tables and staff..don't you know it she is the other owner. THIS PLACE ISSSS the best thing to happen to little Rhody, Please do not take this the wrong was but you guys suckkkkkkk so GOOOOOD cant wait to good back tonight with wifey. :))))))))))))) read more

The food here is excellent! Great staff, good wine and beer list. I can't wait to go back.

The only thing saving this review from being 1 star is the food quality. I have been to Blackie's at least twice before and had normal experiences, however the service was bad enough this time that I felt the need to write a review here. We waited over a half an hour for food before our waitress even acknowledged anything was wrong. After about 40 minutes I told her that we would need our food to go. About 10 minutes later (10 minutes!), the manager came over. I told her that it had been 50 minutes and everyone around us had their food. We had to get back to the office. I was told I should have known that their average ticket time was 30 minutes and she would look into what had happened with this one. Ok. Sure. A 30 minute hamburger. Right. Even if that was normal, we're at 50 minutes and still have no food. Our food finally came out at 1pm. We arrived at the restaurant no later than 12:05. This was two hamburgers, two salads, and a salmon sandwich. Nothing special, nothing difficult. The manager then ran our checks wrong twice, and proceeded to sent the waitress out to finish the transaction because she knew she had delayed us longer. The bills were still wrong. I understand things happen and orders get messed up, but the lack of apology here was ridiculous. There was never an explanation and very little attention was given to our table. Keep in mind this was 5 full lunch orders sitting at an empty table for a full hour. I will pay for $14 for a good hamburger with mediocre chips once in a while, but I expect reasonable service with that price. read more

The atmosphere at Blackie's is great. The indoor and outdoor seating is very nice. We live about 5 minutes from the restaurant and we love the food, but we definitely go there less often than other places due to the wait. We go back every few months to see if they have sped up the service. When it first opened, we thought that was the reason, but we're not sure why anymore... We typically have to wait 45 minutes - 1 hour to get an appetizer. We don't even order appetizers usually at other restaurants but we know we'll have a long wait here (whether the restaurant is full or empty) so we get one to hold us over to the meal. Great atmosphere, great food, pleasant staff, but make sure you have a good amount of time on your hands when you go. read more

I love bringing friends here. The look on their faces when the food arrives is amazing! Great food, awesome drinks and service. read more

This place is a blessing in disguise. We recently moved to the area and this is the best restaurant around ! The food is always fresh and homemade !! I cannot say enough about the place. The portions are perfect and i love the nachos and tuscan turkey burger. You will not be disappointed in this place at all. The wait is always worth it. read more

Love this eclectic, hip restaurant meets tavern in (whoda thunk, Smithfield, RI). Thanking Diane L. AKA Di and her Mom, Lorraine AKA Maman, a bud and her Mom of mine from 1977, who introduced me to this fabulous place to dine and make memories with friends. Presentation is always spot on but most important are all the choices and ESPECIALLY the taste of dishes which are exquisite. One must go to experience it all, and, yes, Rhode peops, it is worth the trip from Providence or better yet, even South County! The only change I'd suggest is the ability to make reservations on busier nights like Friday and Saturday but, hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? A little tweak here and there but this dynamic duo running this restaurant knows how to make their customers very happy! Thanks Ladies and Staff... read more

Three fantastic burgers and one Reuben sandwich is what tickled our taste buds this evening. Came across this way via reading a Facebook inquiry for great restaurants within a 30 minute drive from home. Service fantastic - our waiter Seamus was an absolute gem. Attentive to all in our party and made sure we all got what we needed during our meal Only complaint we have (but didn't get to vocalize due to time constraints) is the two Caramel Apple Cider drinks really didn't have any great flavor to it. Rather bland. Was hoping to really have the taste of cider there, but other than that - everything else was superb! Will definitely be back again to try out other great creations from the kitchen. read more

This is one of the best menus and food in the area. It is delicious and I highly recommend the fried pickles and nachos. The burgers are amazing and the sirloin salad is awesome. Great atmosphere and wait staff too. They have outdoor seating and the place fills up fast. I wish they allowed reservations because it fills up fast on weeknights. read more

Great food, unique food, and incredible beer and mixed drinks. Everything about this place is a hit. The staff is always smiling, the chief is always bringing creations that are top of the charts great. read more

We have been to this restaurant about a dozen times. We have always had excellent service and the food is amazing. I still remember being wowed the very first time we came here. This isn't your typical American fair, it's done with a true chefs flair. Excellent burgers and dessert it always good too. The carrot cake is amazing. read more

Great beer selection and even better food. Hardest part is deciding what to eat. Menu changes with sessons and the fall menu rocks. Great staff and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Do yourself a favor and eat here. read more

Absolutely delicious!!! I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered. From the chefs to the servers they are so accommodating and knowledgable. I can't wait to take my whole family next month for my birthday. Yummmmmy! read more

Absolutely my favorite gluten free- friendly restaurant! Their nachos are outstanding. The Hurdy Gurdy sandwich and Tuscan Turkey burger are my favorites as of this point. I can't wait to go back and try the short rib fettuccini. read more

This restaurant has a new app to control their "call ahead" system that is very inflexible. I used that app to try and "call ahead" as is advertised, for a dinner in an hour. Got a text 20 minutes later saying my table was ready, but I hadn't even left the house. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the restaurant and was told that I'd have an hour and a half wait because I'd missed my window. The management was unsympathetic, so we left without eating. They did admit that the app was new and they hadn't announced the changes to how their system worked. But alas, it doesn't work well. read more

So I really love the food at blackies but I have now twice gone in there and felt like they did not want my business. The first time I said I wouldn't go back after being told we could not sit at a table unless we were ordering a meal, we just wanted to get drinks and an app and the bar was full. Went back again for dinner and really enjoyed our meal and the waitstaff was excellent. So last Sunday I wanted to go for drinks and an app again. We walked into the bar and it was full as well as all the tables around the bar. As typical bar seating goes we waited for a bit to see if a table would open and one did! Score! We were sitting down when someone came over and asked if we had been told we could sit there. We said no and they informed us that the bar seating was being sat off of the waiting list! So we left and I am feeling as though I will not go back for a while. I know this place is busy, I have waited and hour for a table with a call ahead, but people were leaving as we walked in and it did not appear that a ton of people were waiting. It seems like they only want the sit down meal business and not the bar business which disappoints me as the apps and drinks are so good. Maybe I will go back here one day but it just leaves me feeling like my business is not wanted. read more

Blackies has become my most favorite food ever! I am currently very pregnant and ravenous and crave this food! Hahahaha. Seriously though, the food here is always amazing. They have so many healthy options for those who are like me and like to "pick" at their food. I absolutely love how big their take out portions are and they never forget to include all the sides that would come with a meal. Dearest Blackies, you are my #1! I'm so happy I live right down the road, my husband is too when I send him on a "my wife's pregnant and needs Blackies" run! read more

Love this place! We go once a week - either to dine in or order takeout if it's crazy busy. The staff (especially the hostess) is always nice, the paleo/GF options are awesome and the food, overall, is always a win. The BBQ calamari, breakfast burger and seasonal pizzas have become our go-tos. If you're GF and are sick of getting stuck with the most boring stuff ever at restaurants, go here! read more

The bartender felt ok with treating my special needs child rudely... Will never go back...

This is one of my favorite restaurants! I love how they switch up the menu often so they always keep new things coming in! The food is amazing, I've never had something I did not like. The portions are very generous I always end up taking left overs! Blackies does not disappoint! read more

Fantastic whiskey sour, stale tortillas on the fish tacos. Probably the worst fish tacos I've ever had. The ambiance is great, the wait staff was distant. read more

While driving around, we got hungry and came upon Blackie's. I will say that I was VERY pleased with the decor. Someone is clearly paying attention to all the details, and I am in love with lime green. I was SO excited to see that they had such a generous sampling of GF options, and couldn't wait to get my brisket sandwich. For $16 I was expecting the BEST sandwich I ever had. THE PRICES ARE HIGH, HIGH, HIGH, so my expectations were high, as well. Sadly, that's not what was delivered. My table mate also ordered a brisket sandwich, and they arrived fairly closely together. His brisket, which was overly dry, barely covered the bun, and one of the chunks of brisket consisted of a huge chunk of FAT. Not meat, fat. He opened up the bun, and saw that an entire third of the bun surface was not covered by meat. A $16 sandwich should be TEEMING with meat, should it not? Not just a single layer of meat, but it should have some heft & height, should it not? Meanwhile, I was unwrapping my sandwich (for some reason, they come enclosed in paper wrapping which keeps the steam INSIDE) and found that my bread had become soggy. Very soggy. Like when you get out of the pool and sit on a chair cushion-soggy. So soggy, in fact, that I was able to spoon it up, like warm, gooey oatmeal. Yech. Our young (and seemingly detached & unsympathetic/apathetic?) waitperson brought over the manager, who heard our reviews. She offered to make my table mate another sandwich, and upon seeing my soggy oatmeal, she merely said, "Yeah, that happens because of the marinara sauce.". There was no marinara sauce on my sandwich, because it was the brisket. She didn't stop to listen to me say that it was NOT marinara. She did not offer to bring me fresh, toasty, crisp bread, which really bummed me out, because it's a $16 sandwich! The menu description on top of the page says that the sandwiches come with homemade chips or with sides. Upon receiving the bill, we saw that our sad & very disappointing sandwiches cost $18 instead of the already expensive $16!!!!!! They had charged us for the substitute fries! The chips, which are more labor intensive to make, cost nothing, yet to get the fries which are NOT listed as costing extra, increased the price. Unbelievably disappointing. I had SUCH high expectations of the place & was already planning on my next visit, but the food experience that I had was such a downer... I don't think I'll be back. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE MEDIOCRE FOOD THAT WAS SERVED TO US. read more

Been four times now, and both service and food are stellar. An important thing to remember when reviewing the commenters that said service was slow.....this is because everything's made from scratch, to order. If you want fast food, go to Arby's. We got the BBQ plate which is unbelievable with the flavorful meats and chipotle mac n cheese..even the pickled onions are delish. Have also gotten the steak tacos which were delightful. But my absolute favorite that I have ordered the last two times is the Guava BBQ salmon.......ohmyglob this is the best tasting meal I have had in years. The spicy beans and queso fresco, and the roasted corn (you can tell it's been cut off the cob because the big chunks are in there)......just divine. I just love it...nothing like it. Yes, it's crowded and yes, it takes a little longer and yes, it's a bit more expensive. Question is what kind of food do you want? Fast and cheap are very rarely good. read more

I'm really surprised this place doesn't have a full five stars! This place is amazing! Everything is freshly made. From the nachos to the fish and chips to the burgers to the salads.. everything I've had here is literally amazing. The atmosphere is great, can get a little loud on a Friday or Saturday night but what can you really expect on a weekend night. Really cute, fun, place to go with your girlfriends for appetizers and drinks! Definitely a go to for me! read more

Delicious food and many options, but the slowest service in the area! My family and I purposely will ask ourselves if we aren't hungry enough to be able to wait an hour from the time we order to the time we get our food. Even to-go orders take forever. However, their food is very good and everyone knows that (which is why it is packed on a daily basis). I recommend trying it out, but if you're in a rush, forget it! read more

I love this restaurant. The drinks are great, the service and the food. My first visit we had ordered corn bread and it actually arrived in a cast iron skillet. I ordered a burger I had never seen on any many before. It had a blueberry vanilla sauce and it was out of this world. My last visit I also had a burger. It tasted good but was not cooked as i ordered it. The manager comped me a free app for next time. That worked for me. Restaurants are not perfect. They made a mistake and did something about it. Based on visit experience I will be going back. read more

Love this place! Gluten free food is perfect! Delicious food, fast and correct service!

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday mid January early afternoon AND during football season...WOW. A LOT of noise and generally positive energy. Brought the husband and son this time. Again a seemingly extra.long wait for the food to arrive but we had an appetizer before our sandwiches arrived so overall experience still 3 stars. Not sure we will return again read more

BBDT is the absolute best. This place is amazing!!! I have gone several times, ordered several different things and I have never been disappointed. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Positives - OUTSTANDING service! Pleasant atmosphere. Food and drinks were good(Buffalo wings were fantastic!). Negatives - Drinks were pricy. A couple of drinks each and the bar tab was more than the dinner tab. Looking for some comfort food, I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. For $13.99 I was expecting a lot more. There was hardly any chicken and it was more like a soup under the crust. All in all, we had a good time and will most likely return. read more

This is one of my favorite places to visit when I am the mood for a good meal and a cold beer. I doesn't exactly hurt that I am Bryant alum and enjoy the college spirit of the place. Don't let the collegiate tone fool you though, the food really is excellent, the service is warm and friendly the folks behind the bar really know their business, especially Bruce (he enters competitions he's that good). It's comfortable, casual but classy all at the same time and their home made chips are D-LICIOUS! They do have live music on occasion which can make the bar area a little loud for conversation but there is a nice outside patio you can enjoy on those occasions. read more

Great place! I love the atmosphere. The staff is great and the food has an interesting twist on comfort and bar foods. I recommend the BBC and basil calarmari. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in RI. I tried the peanut butter & jelly with bacon burger on the recommendation of our server....she was RIGHT! It was SO good. My kids, who are super picky loved it too. If we weren't such Rhode Islanders, we'd take the "drive" north more often! lol read more

Excellent food! The staff is extremely nice! They made me feel so at home that I felt comfortable enough to bring my 80 year old grandma! Definitely bring your friends and family here! read more

This is a great, trendy little place with quality service and good food. They are, perhaps, a victim of their own success to some extent as their wait times are becoming longer and longer as they become more popular. Overall, the food is worth the wait and fighting for parking. read more

Staff was friendly and attentive. Decent charm to the place. I had the Brisket Sandwich, not that good. Burnt, dried out and NO flavor. Even the frys were real, dark, over cooked and burnt. They need to change the oil. Had a real hard time getting through the meal and would not recommend my dish. Maybe other dishes are better as there was a good crowd there but maybe not that many choices in the area, who knows? My girlfriend's fish dinner was just ok. read more

I've only been here three times but was very happy every time. The food is unique for this area. We don't have anything else like it. I love that the chef puts in her creativity and effort with the menu. They also have a gluten free & paleo section on the menu. The flat bread pizza's are the perfect size for two people to share. The only issue is that this place is always always always packed! It is impossible to get a seat so that is why I've only been here three times! read more

Probably one of the best places I've been to in a long time. Food is high quality, meaning they use very good, fresh ingredients, they're inventive and they give you a lot. This is a great place if you like food, in fact if you don't like this place, you probably don't like food, and you probably shouldn't be going out at all. As I write this, I'm eating cold left over nachos that I still think are delicious. They also have a decent beer selection. read more

Love this place as they have a diverse menu; however, so does everybody else and you he'd have to go either early or later because during rush hour it is way, way, too loud. read more

Great food, I especially love all of their gluten free options. The food is usually never disappointing. The service is always friendly, but sometimes can be slow. You almost always have to wait for a table, usually for quite awhile. I recommend calling ahead, though you'll still be waiting most likely. We started going to Blackie's about 3 years ago when it wasn't as busy and it was nice. Now, though the food is still great it's gained in popularity and therefore it is always too busy and LOUD! The small dining area and bar all being in one giant room makes it very noisy that you have to yell to hear each other. We have just been getting take out to enjoy the good food and avoid the noise and wait. read more
