I don't mind taking my family out for dinner, but I do expect to get my moneys worth.

OVER PRICED, $65- Sticky Tamarind Steak. It was EXCELLENT, however there was enough meat for a 10 year old. There was twice as much Sweet Potato than there was meat. My sever Lilly was very friendly until I responded HONESTLY to her question, "How was everything?" I did respond politely.... I did expect a Manager to come to the table but that did not happen. I guess it was My Fault for ordering a $65 skirt steak without knowing the size (no more than 6 ounces). I did ask my waitress if it was a big piece of meat; Her response was, "It is for me" or something like that. I would say a fair PRICE for this DISH would me $40. It was tasty but not certainly not worth $65; Unless it had double the meat. We sat outdoors, which was very nice and will certainly be back to do it again! I would like to see a reply from management, but we will see if I get one.

I truly don't understand this place after eating here a few times. It is always packed ... the parking lot literally looks like a shopping mall with cars parked along the street. It has almost a cult-like following after reading the reviews. In my experience, everything I have ordered was okay ... but nothing incredibly amazing vs. the price. I have not seen higher menu prices outside of Manhattan. Two sandwiches and one beer came to $78 after the tip. You read that correctly ... a burger with fries, a pulled pork sandwich with side salad and the cheapest draft beer on the menu ... $78!!! The wings/tenders were over $20 ... in fact, other than the side upgrades, nothing on the menu was under $20. If you are charging $25 for a 'diner burger' and fries, it better be an amazing burger. Mine was no better than Five Guys and less tasty than a Shake Shack. Given the prices, one wouldn't expect that you'd get potato chips with your burger. In order to get French fries ... it's a $5 upcharge. A side salad is $9. I don't mind paying more for quality ... and Blackie's quality is probably high as their meats, vegetables, potatoes, etc. all list the origin place. However high the quality is, for me anyways, the food doesn't seem much different taste-wise, than anywhere else that is much less expensive. Having said that, the portions are huge. The nachos look like they are meant for an entire table and everything is served on metal cafeteria-style trays. Good for them though because the place is huge and always packed. The crowd here is very typical 'Rhode Island'. Expect to see a lot of anchor tattoos, lifted Jeeps with no doors in the parking lot, young 20 - 40 year old crowd who probably played high school football or baseball back in the day and still enjoy telling stories about it. There are no shortage of cross-fitters here. There is a nice buzz of conversation and energy ... but this is not the place you want to go if you don't like crowds. Inside is weird. The walls are painted black and the chairs/tables look like something in a boutique hotel. It looks a little more like a corporate hotel lobby or wedding function hall vs. a restaurant ... especially given the typical crowd. This is not the sports bar it appears to be on the outside. Overall, my 3-stars may seem harsh. But that's an average score ... and honestly, my food has always been average. Maybe I need to try the pizza. If you have deep pockets and like huge portions, you probably won't be disappointed in this place. The service is great, although 2 people working a packed bar, you will wait a bit if you need anything. Also, I came to watch the big game and for some reason they hung pendant lights which dangle down from around the bar. While they make everyone look better, the TVs are blocked by the lights. Very odd.

Crostini & Ricotta and Cheeseburger Rangoons

Greeted and seated by smiling faces immediately. The food and drinks were very good. I love the cheeseburger Rangoon, the ricotta bread dip was good but the bread was a tad too crispy and the cornbread was tasty. The pickle pizza was okay but I'm not a huge pickle fan The girls said the turkey was delicious. It wasn't too loud or overcrowded, we could move freely and talk in a normal voice.

Ok we had been driving by for months, we had just moved to the area and one night we were out and wanted to stop in. We were hungry after a super long day. We ordered EVERYTHING, Literally... Hubby wanted steak, son wanted wings, pizza, other things and I had on my Fat girl eyes and just wanted all the things. I was torn on the wing flavor and the waitress (who was a F***ing riot by the way, I Love her)! suggested the maple, I didnt Love love them, but they were good. The pizza was ok, could have been cooked like a moment more. The Shroomy grilled cheese for me was the best thing on the menu. Hubby said the steak was just meh, but he is fancy, we take his reviews with a grain of salt, LOL... The decor and vibe of the place was great! Its big, misleading from the street, but there are rooms, and hallways, and more rooms! Super cute, but it does get busy, Make a reservation. Get the Brie Crostini, I remember that being great, and now Im drooling!

Food/Drinks: The food at this location is still very delicious. I am addicted to their carnitas bowl, which is honestly an item they should have all year, but they usually only offer it seasonally during the summer. It's honestly one of my favorite dishes ever, and at this point I go back just to get that. The drinks are still great as well! Location: This location continues to be perfect for a day out or a special occasion, and it's also great to go with your family. It gives more of a business-casual vibe, and there are different types of people and some dress up and some dress casually. They do have private parking, and they also offer valet service. Service: I have given it them 5 in the past to a 4 now. The service is okay. I'm doing an updated review because I've honestly had great experiences when I do takeout, but I've eaten here at least three more times inside the restaurant. Although some of the waiters are nice and helpful, some haven't been the most friendly, like the last time we went. Our waitress came off a bit rude at times. The wait time is actually insane, which I think is the biggest issue. If I ever come back it will honestly be to pick up a carnitas bowl to go. Every single time we've eaten inside the restaurant, the wait time has been over 45 minutes to an hour, and the last time some of the food took over an hour to come to our table, which was extremely disappointing. The restaurant didn't even seem as full and we asked our waitress and she was a bit rude about it which threw us off. I'd do take out for sure but I may think twice before coming in person. I feel that if they fix this, this restaurant can thrive even more than it already is.

Food was delicious. Great flavor in the sauces. The ambiance is chill. Family friendly. The service was excellent.

I'll always love how good a gluten free person can eat here. I went in January and I can't remember what the sandwich I got was called, but it was amazing! The buffalo chicken dip is always great and a good size for sharing as an appetizer. Service was so friendly and made sure my gluten free food was safe.

Eric M.

I'm still dreaming about this buffalo dip. Sat bar side with a friend of mine got a couple of drinks and this dip. Probably the best Buffalo chicken dip I've ever had (yes your mom and aunt's don't compare to this). Creamy, gooey full of chicken and some kick as it should be! Been to blackies many times as a Bryant student and this place doesn't disappoint. Staff is always friendly and kind, menu is always creative and it looks so aesthetically pleasing. Whether you are visiting Bryant to catch a game or looking for a date night spot. Blackies is the way to go!

Melissa V.

Our second visit and everything was delicious as usual! A little pricey, but worth the splurge for excellent food.

chicken sandwich, turkey club, pulled pork sliders

Molly B.

I just attended a grad party here and was blown away by the quality of the food and service. Typically it's hard to pull off a successful buffet spread while keeping everything PIPING hot and they did so with ease. The grad herself said that the staff was super helpful in curating a menu. They even printed it out with her name and placed it on the bar. The buffalo chicken dip, bruschetta, burger rangoons, pizzas, and ANY of their sliders/sammies were so good. In terms of drinks I got the Blackie's pair. It was so good that I got another one immediately after. The bartender working was a sweetheart as well! Would love to visit again!

Arthur S.

We went in for pizza at 3 PM to avoid the dinner crowd because Blackie's can get busy quickly. The service was excellent, we were seated immediately and our water classes were always full. I ordered the Zab's Wicked Hot Cousin without the hot honey. The dough is a light, fluffy, thin crust that has nice pull to it as you bite it. If you like lots of cheese and topping, this is it. Very good pepperoni and the fermented chilies were a perfect match for me. I usually order cherry peppers on my pizza, but these were way better...no stems with all the flavor. The cheese was super stretchy and full of flavor with all of that cup and Charred pepperoni. I was lucky enough to take 2 slices home and they reheated perfectly! Can't wait till next time.

Hangar steak, mashed potatoes, honey glazed carrots with fried onions

Kylie K.

Arrived following noon service to a packed parking lot and packed dining room. Sat at a high top and immediately noticed no purse hangers, wobbly table, mild draft. We had at least 4 menus to look through...and no one announced the specials (they did at the family tables next to us) the steak was cooked well, way too many fried onions, and the demi glaze tasted like watered down bbq sauce. The fish sandwich was good except the tomato added unnecessary acid and the bun fell apart (too much aioli or old bread). Our server was pleasant and agreed purse hooks are a must! He fixed the table wobble and left us in peace to eat. We had to pack our own to go box, no dessert offered.

The gleaming facade of Blackie's stands out on the George Washington Highway, all sleek charcoal gray and punchy lime green accents. This is not your corner pizza joint with fluorescent lighting and sticky laminate tables. Blackie's wants you to know right away that they're playing a different game. Inside, the aesthetic continues its war on mediocrity. Stone walls meet distressed wood paneling. Artful lighting casting just the right glow over marble tabletops and modern, artsy, seating. The place feels expensive and calculated, with considered design where every weathered plank and pendant light has been placed with Instagram worthiness in mind. The dining room fills up fast. Locals know something tourists don't. Two fancy Italian pizza ovens loom large behind us in the beautiful dining area with the equally fancy bar in front of us. Their pepperoni pizza arrives on a wooden board, a 14-inch circle of potential greatness. First visual impression: beautiful. The kind of pie that food photographers wish for. But we eat with our mouths, not our eyes. The first slice pulled away from the pie reveals a crust that defies expectation. It's remarkably light, almost airy, overwhelmed toward the center, with a structure that grows more substantial as you reach the perimeter. The flavor is distinctive, pleasant, with an agreeable chew that speaks of proper fermentation and good flour. This is a seriously considered pizza dough. Someone in the kitchen understands bread. But then comes the problem. The sauce, applied with such restraint that you might question whether they ran out halfway through prep, gets absolutely bulldozed by a tsunami of cheese. This dairy avalanche dominates every bite, turning what should be a symphony into a one-note song. The pepperoni, while abundant, contributes almost nothing to the equation. It exists merely as decoration, its flavor lost beneath the blanket of mozzarella excess. The service at Blackie's runs with remarkable precision. Water glasses never empty. Questions find immediate answers. Needs are anticipated rather than responded to. This is professional hospitality at work, the kind that makes you feel simultaneously cared for and not spied on. In the end, Blackie's aesthetic speaks of culinary ambition and careful planning. The service is ready to support a serious dining destination. But the pizza, at least, falls victim to the most basic of errors: imbalance. Too much of one thing, not enough of the others. Would I return? Absolutely. But I'd veer toward their burgers and comfort food rather than the pizza. It's a great spot that deserves a better outcome than this pie provided.

I love it here! The food is fabulous! The flavor and texture combinations are to die for... and talk about fresh, some of the herbs and veggies are grown behind the restaurant. Everyone on the staff is fantastic at their job and truly love working here. They have fantastic senses of humor and enjoy joking with the patrons. The eclectic menu changes so often, you could never get "the same old thing" and its always very well thought out and flavorful. The specials are called that because you feel special when your meal arrives.... again... I love it here. read more

Had dinner here the other night and I was very impressed with my meal as well as my friends. Food and drinks were wonderful but the kitchen tends to be a bit slow getting the food out. It was not busy by any means in the restaurant so there is no excuse other than very slow execution of the order. But I Wii return and hopefully they will execute my order quicker!!! read more

Blackie's is my first suggestion to anyone who asks (even if it's my husband). No matter what you are in the mood for, they have something for you. If I wanted a burger, I would just make one at home... Chef Angie takes everything to another level, to a place that my mind can't understand until I taste it. Berry compote with vanilla bean mayo on a burger? Nowhere else but here! I love that they always change up the menu for the season ensuring that no matter how many times you go, you will ALWAYS have something mind-blowingly good!! read more

While traveling for business, I use Yelp frequently to guide me in good to great dining. I don't know where to start as to how outstanding this place. The chef is awesome !! We started with the pork nachos. I have never had nachos that amazing. I shared a flatbread dish and the pumpkin mac and cheese. Awesome doesn't describe the food enough. My beverage : an apple cinnamon margarita. To die for. I cannot recommend this place enough. Don't let all the cars scare you away or the 30 min wait. It is definitely worth it. Linda read more

Great food. Great service. Great drinks. That's the bottom line. This place is amazing. When you consider how many people are in this place eating and drinking and how fast the food and drinks come out it is a testament to the kitchen and the staff. We expected a long wait to get seated and a long wait to get our food given the amount of people that were frequenting this place but to our pleasant surprise the wait was short and the food and drinks came out fast. Not only did the food arrive quickly but it was some of the best food we have ever had at a bar and grille. The hummus platter is inspiring and the variety of the menu is nothing short of impressive. The world needs more places like this. Great food. Great value. A++ read more

Very good food, good service, nice atmosphere. The prices are slightly toward the upper end for this type of restaurant but nonetheless still competitive. I would have given it four stars except for a couple of things. Although the food portions are generous, I would have liked a little more shaved steak in my steak sandwich. The other thing is, unless you are a fan of sweet salsa with no zing, don't bother ordering plain chips & salsa. The waitress DID say that they were going to be serving a different type of salsa in the near future. By the way ... awesome sweet potato fries and homemade potato chips! Overall, a very pleasant, casual dining experience and we will definitely be back. read more

We went to Blackie's for dinner last night. They have call ahead seating so we called when we were on our way, they said 45 minutes, we got there in 25 and were seated immediately. The place was packed and it got VERY loud over the course of our meal. The screaming kid next to us didn't help. He did stop crying for a little while once nachos showed up though. I've never seen a 2 year old devour pulled pork nachos like that. It was kind of impressive. We also got the nachos, which are all made from scratch. Really good pulled pork, american cheese sauce and house made chips. There were 3 adults and a 7 year old and we got maybe 3/4 of the way through it and were mostly full. When we ordered we had made a plan to order 3 different things that we all wanted to try. We got the fish and "chips" which are a pretzel crushed fish and zucchini, turned into pasta, then breaded and fried. It may sound weird, but it was incredible. The southern hot chicken is a dish of thin chicken cutlets, fried and dipped in hot sauce with buttered bread, mashed potatoes (incredible), corn off the cob, slaw and pickles. We were instructed on how it was intended to be eaten, which is pretty much to take a bite of everything. So we made open faced sandwiches with it and holy crap it was good. The flavors were complex and complimented each other perfectly. The turkey club sandwich (I forge the name they gave it) was really good, it came with a unique mayo, I think it was rootbeer mayo but I am not positive on that. My son got chicken fingers and house made chips, they were really good. We barely touched the entrees in order to get dessert (we came home with a suit case of left overs that will surely last a couple more meals). We got a paleo skillet cookie with ice cream and faux frosting on the side. This was like a warm skillet brownie. I couldn't stop eating it, but I thought I was going to rupture. The "faux frosting" was like frosting and pudding had a baby. It was pretty good, but not my favorite. The carrot cake ice cream sandwich was the favorite of the table. It is two pieces of carrot cake as the outsides with vanilla ice cream in the middle and carrot cake frosting on top of it. We also got a peach and strawberry hand pie. They take 20 minutes to bake, so you need to order them when our meal shows up, or be prepared to wait. We waited as there was no rush for the desserts to show up with us all ready to pop. They brought all of the desserts out at once and the hand pie unfortunately had to go back. The dough was still raw in the middle, what we did taste was awesome though. They offered to replace it and the manager came over to apologize, but the entire meal was incredible and service was perfect, so that little speed bump wasn't an issue and its not like we were hungry anyways. They change their menu every 6 months and this one is only a week old. It is in Smithfield RI, down 146 and an exit up 295. I am pretty upset my MIL took us here. Its way too close and I can hear me getting fatter just thinking about going back. Soooo good though. If we sat outside where it was more quiet, it would have been 5 stars. read more

This is a true five star review. I have been in the industry for 17 years, and have had the pleasure of working with Angie, who is one of the most talented chefs I have ever met. The junkyard nachos were perfect with the blend of fresh nachos and chili. The guacamole was fresh, vibrant and perfect on the acidity. The buffalo dip was out of this world... spicy, smoky and smooth. The flavor and heat wasn't over powering but rather built upon itself with each bite. Finally I had the Bahn MA which was sweet vinigery and then right at the end a unexpected heat that rounded the entire dish out to hit on all levels. My wife had the pickaluffugus which she said was phenomenal but I didn't have the room to try. Needless to say we took the dessert Togo which I am sure is top notch. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a little more out of a classic dish. read more

AMAZING FOOD! I just moved to the area and the first recommendation I received was to come here. Best food I have ate in the area! I highly recommend the junkyard nachos and the prosciutto and fig flatbread pizza. A friend and I shared these two things and went home with left overs. Good craft beer selection. Some nights I drive by and it's packed. I had to wait a couple times but they always try to get you seated quickly. The bar and some of the tables around the bar are first come first serve, so keep an eye out for empty tables. I like good food and I'm willing to pay good money for food. . . this is hands down the best place I have ate in Rhode Island so far! read more

This place is amazing! As my husband and I are new Greenville residents, all the locals suggested Blackie's and we decided to try it out. We must have gotten there at the perfect day/ time because we had no wait to get a table, our waitress was attentive and provided us with a few suggestions on food and apps. Short wait time and yet the food (when it came out) was meticulously plated and was nothing short of heavenly. My husband tried the Cuban and said it was the best he's ever had (even after trying locally in Miami!). I had a turkey club topped with their brown sugar maple mayo. Needless to say, we left in a food coma. We will be going back! read more

This place is incredible. They cater to special food restrictions like paleo and gluten free. They have an extensive menu and really cool drink selection including their Sunday Bloody Mary bar and this amazing avacado margarita I had last time. I've only been twice but I am super impressed. The severs/bartenders work together are very professional don't miss a beat think of things before you even have to ask. First time I got the corn beef quesadillas. Unique and amazing. My more health conscience friends got the pink owl with fruits I forget what it's called but said it's all she ate when she was an Cali and did it the exact same way. Second time I got brisket tacos omg literally best brisket ever. Place gets jam packed and I don't think they take reservations best to go mid day when only mildly busy... Atmosphere is attractive like the green and blank and the art and modern decor. It's clean orderly professional, reasonably priced. I've only been twice and can't wait to go back! read more

The food is creative and good, but the service is not. Very slow, very uneducated. I requested a glass of Zinfandel - a red wine - and was brought a glass of white zinfandel. When I refused it, and explained to the server what Zinfandel is she told me that they did not have it. I ordered a Guinness instead. When I got the tab, I noticed I was charged for the white zinfandel that I had refused, because the waitress insisted that I had ordered it. After speaking with the manager, I managed to get the charge removed. read more

DON'T BRING YOUR BABIES HERE!!!!! Love this place but when we came here recently with our 3'week old baby and had to change her there was no changing table in the bathroom and the manager wouldn't let me change my baby upstairs in their spare banquet room. So I had to change my newborn baby on the floor of the bathroom. How disgusting and inconvenient! Get with the times and get a changing table in the bathroom!!! read more

First time coming to the new location and was very excited to try it out. We were thrilled to get right in with no wait. Once we sat our server came over to us and was very nice. We ordered our buffalo chicken dip as an appetizer and it was great. When we ordered our burgers I realized after our server walked away that we weren't asked how we liked them cooked. Once I told her when she came back she said they do their standard way as medium well. (Which I prefer to tell the restaurant the way I like my burger cooked but that's just me.) After saying I prefer it more medium then well she said she would tell them which was awesome. When the burgers came to the table they were so greasy and messy I didn't know how to eat it. We cut them in half hoping it would be easier but they just fell apart. Once cut my burger was RAW. I had a bite just because I didn't want to hassle them by sending it back but I couldn't even eat it. I thought maybe I should just tell them to send it back and take it off the bill but then decided to try it after it was cooked a little more. After getting it back it still didn't look appetizing so we just asked for boxes to take it home. The manager did apologize while I was waiting for it to come back out but our waters were empty the whole time (while she was sitting down at the table next to us.) During the ride home both of our stomachs were not feeling too great. No one got sick but hopefully this stomach ache will go away soon. Maybe they will consider putting some pasta on the menu instead of trying to have "high end" bar food. Very disappointed! read more

Yes the service is slow. This apparently is not a concern of the chef/owner who would have addressed the issue by now if she felt it required fixing (...it does...) But the burgers we had, were in fact, juicy and cooked properly, despite the wait. I'll return once more for other menu items, but if the inattentiveness of the staff and the extra 15 minutes of kitchen time is still an issue, I just can't see putting Blackie's on my 'go-to' list of comfort food spots that impress read more

Let me begin by saying that this is a good place to get pub food. It is clean, relatively cozy, and the service is very good. The food is good too, but not great. We started off with nachos, buffalo chicken dip, and a hummus platter. All three of these were very tasty. The nachos are huge! For dinner, I had a Blackie's burger and my wife had a margarita pizza. The burger is ENORMOUS, with two very large onion rings on it. It was too much. The roll had a greasy taste that I didn't like, but the burger was cooked perfectly. The pizza was....meh. However, we have had other pizzas there that were great. Overall, I recommend having one of their delicious apps, and sharing a main dish, or you'll both go home with leftovers. read more

Have been to this establishment about 5 times, and have always had wonderful experiences, and it's become one of my favorite places to go. A friend recommended it, and had she not said something I probably wouldn't have even know about it. Don't be fooled by the name, you think it's going to be dive bar, but in fact it's a beautiful restaurant with great service and awesome food. I recently had a bad experience with a newer server and a dish I didn't really like. When I voiced my concern to one of the owners/managers, she was quick to offer me an apology, and even offered me a gift card for the trouble. I was beyond happy with the professional manner of the owners and their willingness to make sure every visit is enjoyable and that you leave happy. With that said, this remains my favorite place to go. The staff always makes sure you have a full glass, everyone chips in if they see you just sitting there needing something. Even the manager fills drink orders if the wait staff is busy. They have THE best burgers and the drink menu is fabulous!!!! My favorite is the seasonal sangria. Give this place a try.....you are guaranteed to leave happy and full :) read more

Blackie's Bulldog Tavern specializes in funky comfort food with a creative, edgy twist. Chef Angie's creativity blossoms in a new way every day! History

Established in 2011.

In typical RI fashion, many locals refer to us as "the old Ron's Spaghetti House" followed by...it's not like Ron's anymore. More recently, prior to Blackie's, it was a fine dining Italian restaurant, Rocco Italian Osteria. Although the food was phenomenal and the decor was a beautiful Tuscan theme, it was not the right fit for this area. The former owners changed concepts, went through a difficult transition with staff and then found Chef Angie. Shortly after her arrival, she and former GM, Jeanine Iannucci, purchased the restaurant and made it their own. They both are on site daily and have their hands in every aspect of their business.

Meet the Business Owner: Angie A. Jeanine I. A.

Chef Angie was no stranger to the food business since early childhood in Chicago. Wanting to be professionally trained, she arrived in RI to attend JWU...and never left. After spending many years with the Pinelli-Marra Group and opening several of their restaurants, it was time for an even bigger, more rewarding challenge. She found herself at Blackie's and never turned back. Co-owner, Jeanine I, has always had a passion for food and people. With a sales background and a lot of determination, she grew up quickly in the business. Formerly the GM of Rocco Italian Osteria and the initial opening of Blackie's, her heart and soul became the restaurant. When Angie arrived, Jeanine knew she was exactly what the restaurant needed. Shortly after, they purchased the restaurant and have continued to dedicate themselves to their passion together.

I placed my order ahead of time through DoorDash and when I arrived, the restaurant was pretty much empty. The associate was putting pizza boxes together, so I told him I was there for a pickup order. He seemed a little confused and it didn't seem like he was aware of the order. He went in the back, spoke with another employee, and there was a little back-and-forth before he came out and told me it would be ready in about seven minutes. Honestly, I got the feeling that my order hadn't even been started. I asked if it hadn't been started yet because, if that was the case, I was going to cancel it since I really didn't want to wait. He assured me the pizza only took about seven minutes to cook and would be out quickly, but he did admit that the order hadn't been started yet. That was a little frustrating because DoorDash made it seem like the order was already being processed and prepared. Clearly, there was some kind of disconnect between DoorDash and the restaurant. Once I actually got the food, the pizza was good and I enjoyed it. The wings, however, were just okay and definitely aren't something I would order again. Giuseppe's Pizzeria and Bistro is upscale in the best way. Dark wood, brick floors, pendant lights over a small bar. The lights are dim but the room is inviting and intimate. When we arrived, it wasn't empty, wasn't slammed. Nothing felt rushed. Everything moved at the right pace, giving us time to talk, time to savor, time to just enjoy being there. Even after we paid, no one hurried us out. The room was filling up around us, but we never felt it. Fresh plates for every course. Water refilled when it emptied (not before we noticed, exactly when). Every time we said thank you, our server said "of course" like she truly meant it. The focaccia came out warm. Tear it open and you see irregular holes. That takes hours, not shortcuts. They bring whipped garlic butter because it spreads easier, but the bread's good enough alone. Four meatballs arrived, tender enough they fell apart as I tried to work them through the sauce. Took surgeon hands. Pool the red sauce on your plate or spoon some over the top of each bite. Without it, they're bland. With it, they're quite good. The pepperoni pizza came out right. Char on the crust, pepperoni curling into little grease cups, cheese stretching six inches on those first bites. The sauce is light. The crust ends taste a little like char and semolina. I'm a sauce guy. Always have been. This pizza wasn't what I look for, but the people around us all looked happy to be there and with their food. Giuseppe's making the pizza his customers want. Fruit crumble for dessert. Fresh blueberries and peaches, vanilla ice cream. I enjoyed the peach side more than the blueberries, which was unexpected. The peaches were a little less sweet. The blueberries? Really sweet. Fresh and enjoyable. Giuseppe's fills up for a reason. The service is the best I've experienced in months. People were taking their time, talking, enjoying everything that was in front of them. They seemed like they knew they were somewhere special. They got it right.

The hand feel, the specific chew, the way the crust gives under your fingers. I could identify it just by touch, blindfolded in a lineup of a hundred pies. It's wired into me from countless visits over the last 30+ years, born in the taste of being young and hungry and not overthinking anything about quality, just taste and filling you up. So when I tell you that Pizzeria Romana, located right by the Lincoln Mall, is just like Papa Gino's dressed up for the prom, understand that I mean it as the highest compliment. This was a new stop this year on the Lord of the Pies circuit. We walked in with zero expectations. The space is warm without trying too hard. Black and white checkered tablecloths. Italian countryside murals on the walls. The staff greets you like they're happy you showed up, which is rarer than it should be. The cheese pizza is where this place reveals itself. Same Papa Gino's geometry: thin, sturdy, dependable. But elevated with ingredients that actually taste fantastic. The cheese blend brings provolone into the conversation, adding sharp, tangy notes that cut through the richness. Everything works. The crust has that holds its crispness on top, great chew in the middle, and just enough cornmeal texture underneath to remind you this thing came from a real oven. The pepperoni, though. It overwhelms. Too much salt, too much grease, too much of everything. It doesn't play well with others. It storms onto the plate and dominates, drowning out all those subtle cheese notes that made the plain slice sing. Stick with the cheese. Let the fundamentals do their work. What Pizzeria Romana understands, what Papa Gino's always understood, ipizza doesn't need to reinvent itself to be good. It needs good ingredients, technique, and the restraint not to screw it up with unnecessary flourishes. This is a nice neighborhood spot where you can bring a date or grab a pie with friends without pretension. The best thing a pizza can do is remind you why you fell in love with it in the first place. Pizzeria Romana does exactly that. Just hold the pepperoni.

Where do I even start with Blackie's?! Let's start with the most important part: the FOOD. When I tell you there is not a single bad option on this menu, I genuinely mean it. From burgers and sandwiches to crispy, crunchy salads, pizza, and some of the best appetizers to share, everything is so good. I also love their long list of fun mocktails and delicious desserts that somehow make it impossible to choose just one. And if you're on the hunt for the perfect sweet potato fries, look no further because these are my absolute favorite! The portions are generous too, making it the perfect spot whether you're meeting the girls for lunch, going on a date night, or bringing the family after a sports game. Second, the atmosphere is so unique. The whole restaurant feels clean, thoughtfully designed, and put together. The iconic Blackie's green paired with the dark wood creates such a cozy and inviting space while still feeling stylish. It's just so aesthetically pleasing. And I have to mention the bathrooms because they might genuinely be the nicest restaurant bathrooms I've ever seen. At least in the women's restroom, there are chandeliers, pink soap, and even pink crystals in the sinks. Somehow washing your hands feels luxurious! The service is another reason I keep coming back. The servers are so attentive and genuinely kind. They'll make little comments like, "Great choice!" or "That one's so good," which makes the experience feel personal and welcoming. If you have food allergies, they're incredibly accommodating and never make you feel like you're being difficult or asking too many questions. That means so much. We also never feel rushed, so it's easy to sit back, enjoy the meal and really spend time together. Clearly, I love it here, and I recommend it to everyone. Whether you have food allergies or you're simply looking for a clean, welcoming restaurant with amazing food and a great atmosphere, Blackie's is absolutely worth visiting. One tip though: make a reservation! This place is PACKED almost every day they're open. If you can, try stopping by on a weekday afternoon when it's a little quieter. But if you're willing to brave the crowds, I promise it's worth it. Oh, and one last thing, I promise! I also love that Blackie's is female-owned... so that's probably why it's so good! You can really tell how much care goes into every little detail, from the food to the atmosphere to the service. It's one of those places that just gets everything right, and I'll happily keep recommending it to anyone looking for a great meal. read more

First I want to say I do not normally leave a bad review for a place that has great food. I called Blackie's on 3/18/15 and spoke to a receptionist named Julie or Julia about making reservations on the coming Saturday at 7:30 for 9 people. She nicely told me they only make reservations for parties of 10 or more. I said no problem and she nicely told me to call back around 5:30 the day of to put my name in. That Saturday came and I called at 5:30 and spoke to another female receptionist and she took down my name and telephone number but asked that my family come in at 8pm when it isn't as busy. I said that was understandable and it worked out better because my grandfather in on oxygen so I didn't want him standing too long. My two brothers arrived around 7:30 to have a few beers and gave the receptionist our party information. They then proceeded to sit at a high top table having beers waiting for the rest of my family. I arrived at 7:50 with the remaining party and gave the receptionist my name and telephone number. She looked at me strangely and said that she didn't have anyone by my name or party on file! So another receptionist came over and said she remembered speaking with me. She starts looking through her book and then a few smaller pads laying on the counter. She then told me she never wrote it down but I could wait 2.5 hours! I explain about my grandmother's 80th birthday and my grandfather being on oxygen and she basically tells me I should have lied and said I had a party of 10 because other people do it all the time. Now I am really getting upset so the first receptionist I spoke to tells me she will see if there is anything she can do. She comes back and tells me sorry I feel really bad (obviously not enough) but we have four large parties ahead of you!!! I go get my brothers who are wondering why the receptionist didn't tell them in the first place there wasn't a party under Jaime on file for 8pm?! If they would have told them earlier we could have made alternate arrangements somewhere else before it got even later. Luckily we called our local go to restaurant Tavern on the Main and they put together a few tables for us and even stayed open later than normal. I guess it wasn't a good idea that I bring everyone to try a new place I had been raving about on such an important night (80th birthday). I felt awful since it was my grandmother's 80th but it all worked out in the end somewhere else. read more

Blackie's Restaurant has long been known for serving decent and flavorful food, making it a go-to spot for many locals. However, my recent experiences have left me disappointed, as the quality of the food has noticeably declined. Unfortunately, this trend continued during my most recent takeout order. Today, I decided to try Blackie's chicken souvlaki by placing a takeout order. Excited to enjoy a delicious meal at home, I eagerly unwrapped the package upon arriving home. To my dismay, I discovered that the bread accompanying the souvlaki was old, stale, and falling apart. It was disheartening to see a crucial element of the dish in such a poor state. The bread should have been fresh and acted as the perfect vessel for the flavorful chicken, but instead, it detracted from the overall experience. The flavors seemed muted, and the overall dish lacked the usual vibrancy that made it a standout option. It was clear that the food preparation did not meet the high standards that Blackie's usually upholds. As a regular customer who has enjoyed satisfactory meals in the past, the decline in food quality during my last two visits is disheartening. I understand that restaurants can have their off days, but to experience a consistent drop in quality is concerning. While I cannot fault the restaurant for the takeout process, as the packaging was secure and the order was ready on time, the disappointment in the food itself overshadowed these positives. I informed them of the situation and they apologized and credited me for the order. However, it was a disappointment dinner for me. In conclusion, my recent experiences with Blackie's Restaurant have been disappointing. The takeout order of chicken souvlaki I received had old and falling-apart bread, and the overall quality of the dish did not meet the usual standards of taste and freshness. As someone who has previously enjoyed their meals, I hope that Blackie's takes these feedback seriously and takes the necessary steps to improve their food quality and regain their reputation for providing decent and flavorful dishes. read more

Update Review: Did Blackie's Earns Its Redemption?? After years of joking about our past experience at Blackie's, my wife and I finally decided to give them a second chance. This time, it was like night and day. From the moment we arrived on a busy Saturday night, it was clear they had mastered their reservations and flow--our wait was minimal despite the crowd. The menu remained as intriguing as ever, packed with creative dishes that piqued my interest. But the biggest and most welcome surprise? The service. Unlike our last visit, this time, it was exceptional--our server was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive. Now, onto the food. We started with the **Cheeseburger Rangoon**, expecting a simple burger filling, but it was so much more. The perfectly crispy wrapper held a well-balanced mix of meat and other ingredients, delivering an unmistakable cheeseburger flavor in each bite. A great start. For mains, my wife opted for the **Turkey Club Sandwich**, which she loved, while I went for the **Brisket Melt**--and wow, did it deliver. The brisket was tender and flavorful, paired with an incredible blend of cheeses. I was initially hesitant about the inclusion of apples, but they turned out to be more of a subtle chutney, adding just the right hint of sweetness without overpowering the dish. I chose fries on the side but could only finish half--it was that generous. Overall, Blackie's completely redeemed itself, earning back nearly two stars in my book. From service to food, they nailed it this time, and I'll definitely be back. **Well done, Blackie's!** read more

Firstly, this place is a sports bar/pub type place. With that in mind, I would expect good draft beer at reasonable prices. That, they have. The problem with this place is their food. Their food is what you may expect at a decent pub, but their pricing is artificially high. Maybe it is due to masquerading the food quality with chic, modern dinnerware and arugula. I was pleased to find Nashville Hot Chicken on the menu, a real favorite of mine. The very nicely prepared plate came to me and I immediately noticed that the chicken wasn't in whole pieces as I would expect all Nashville Hot to be. Some sort of "filet" or large "tender" pieces (they were not tender at all) drenched in a mixture of Louisiana hot sauce and BBQ sauce were presented to me and not crispy at all. It tasted more like Buffalo chicken tenders than Nashville Hot. The best part was the mashed "taters". Very good! My two dinner companions were also basically unimpressed with the quality/price ratio. One orders a $16 sandwich and found it didn't include fries. $16 bucks and NO FRIES? Are we in Manhattan?? Ohh, this is Smithfield, sorry. Fries were $2 extra. At any rate, as we eating, one of the owners stopped by our table to ask us about the food, service, etc. I told her my thoughts. She did offer to change our meals, which was a very nice gesture, but by that time the "horse had left the barn". It is doubtful that I will return here anytime soon since there are many other alternatives. read more

Found out about Blackie's after attending an Izzy Foundation Gala in Sept and saw in a video there, that the owners provide lunch every day to the Izzy Room at Hasbro Children's Hospital, which we thought was so kind, so we headed to dinner with 6 others last Friday night to give them a go at. It was wonderful!! We had a reservation and were seated on time by a very pleasant young lady. We sat right next to the 2 pizza ovens, so of course it was the first thing we tried. We ordered 2 different kinds, 1 was gluten free. They were both delicious. My sister in law who has Celiac was so thrilled that they have 2 different ovens and stations so it does not cross contaminate. We also ordered the chicken tenders and nacho's, which were so good, but the tenders will be titled our all time favorite from now on. The dining area was beautiful, and even though they were very busy, we were still able to carry on a conversation and not feel it was too loud. Our servant Brent gets 5 stars for awesome service and suggestions. The girls had salads but the boys had the backyard BBQ and loved it, good size portion. We were too full to have dessert, but saw some go by that looked delish. All and all, we enjoyed our dining experience very much and will definitely be returning. Saw one of the owners on the way out who cheerfully, along with other staff at the front desk, thanked us for coming and wished us a Good night. read more

It was our first time here and there won't be a second time. When we arrived, the parking lot was full, which we thought was a good sign. When we entered, the smell of mildew was almost overwhelming, but I have a heightened sense of smell, so I tried to overlook it. We ordered wine and their Kegerator appetizer. It came, it looked terrific and even tasted great. We ran out of the large soft pretzel that is served on the board so I asked the server if we could get more pretzel and he said "No". I'm sorry, no? He said it's the one item on the menu that they don't give extras of. I offered pay for it. He went to check with the chef and came back and told us "Sorry, no, she won't do it". Wow. Now, if I was dealing with a James Beard nominee, I could understand the attitude, but you're a pub. In Smithfield. Rhode Island. On top of that, they nickel and dimed me with the toppings on my burger (25 cents for shredded iceberg? that's a lame money grab). I now realize they are probably only busy because they are one of the only shows in town. I should have turned around and left when I walked in and it stunk. I think Angie should remember the maxim, "the customer is always right". Obviously, customers don't really matter as she refuses customer requests. I asked for a pretzel, not a kidney. There are too many other places that are great the first time to give them a second chance. read more

Husband and I went once last year and sat at the bar.. had a great time and the apps were amazing! We went back last night and sat at a table. Couldn't even tell you our server's name because he greeted us with "looks like you're all set for something." After waiting 5+ minutes to be greeted and after watching him greet a table that was sat after us, yes, we were indeed ready for our drink order and an app. Another 5ish minutes to get the drinks. Thought I had ordered a draft but didn't realize it was a can (no biggie, was still gonna drink it). He walked by a couple minutes later as I was looking through the drink list (just curious as to what I'd get next) and pointed out "that's the draft list" and just walked away, as a way to make me feel stupid. Salad came out with my meal, nope. Icing on the cake was "can I get you some change?" which is a HUGE no no! So rude. Still left over 20% as I am also a server but hands down the worst service ever. Nachos were a disappointment. Husband loved his burger but the mac and cheese is extremely heavy. Doesn't make me want to go back again, especially if two people dropped $90 and got crap service. read more

Ate earlier this week at Blackies. I was in town for business and looked at the reviews. I figured I had to try this place. Had the Burnt Ends Sangwich, in-house Smoked Beef Brisket. You can smell the smoker out back as you pull up. It was excellent. As my appetizer I had the Smokehouse Pork Chos, a take on Nachoes. Homemade Potato Chips layered/stacked with Smoked Pork, and a delicious Sweet Potato Cream. Completely original and delectable. I had to go back the next day. I ordered the Marinated Eggplant Grilled Cheese Sangwich. This is one of the most delicious sandwiches I have ever eaten, and I am in the Food Business. So to be a complete groupie, I again ate there on my last day in town. Had the wonderful Reuben, with in-house made corned beef, which gets shredded and crisped on the flat top before placed in you sandwich. To note, I had dinner at the venerable Al Forno, which was great, however the comfort food, unique and administered perfectly at Blackies makes me want to travel 3 states again for that Eggplant Grilled Cheese. Read the reviews. BRAVO! read more

The last three times we have tried this place, the service was not good. Our the last time we went ( a few months ago, now ) we all wanted to go out to eat as a family since we don't go out to eat often. The meal was expensive for a family of five, but this is where we decided to try and eat. The restaurant was not at full capacity - there were a couple tables open ( meaning / they weren't slammed ) it took us almost 20 minutes for them to place our order and after we ordered, the kids food came out after thirty minutes, and my husband and I waited another thirty minutes for ours! During this whole wait time, there was never any mention of the "wait" or apology for how long it was taking. That alone would have made it a little more bearable - just someone acknowledging that this was unacceptable and apologizing for it. Not one mention of it, but we were frustrated leaving there that night and said we probably wouldn't come back. read more

I can't say enough good things about Blackies Tavern! The atmosphere is so unique, their slogan "expect the unexpected" is very fitting. The parking lot is intimidating, but go inside anyway and ask if there's a wait because it's usually the after work bar crowd taking up the parking lot. Justine at the front desk was awesome, my wife and I wanted to sit on the patio and she came and found us at the bar as soon as a table opened up. Donielle was our server, she was friendly and knew a lot about the menu. I ordered the junkyard nachos which were probably the best nachos I've ever had...EVER. My wife ordered the "me so hungry" burger and she absolutely loved it. We will definitely be back! read more

Very average at best. If you like frozen not fresh fish, then come here. We had the fish and chips and I think this was the worst that I ever had in Rhode Island. Covered with a panko crust was the complete fail of the dish. Nothing of the meal tasted like fish, just very plain and tasteless. Coming from a state that prides it self on fresh seafood, this should be a no brainer. French fries soggy and not seasoned at all. Remoulade needed help and coleslaw was purple. Overall service was good. I did notice the floor manager doing as much as she could to help out everyone. Dont think we will be repeat customers. read more

FINALLY MADE IT HERE AFTER 2 FAILED ATTEMPTS. Service all around was kinda meh, but the food totally makes up for it. Had a number of friends over at Bryant and always tried to make it in here, but I always tried on the weekend and was unsuccessful. Started with the calamari, split a flatbread with friends, and obviously had to get a burger.. after all, that's what they're know for, right? I got the America Pie burger. I would absolutely recommend this place, but if you can only make it on a weekend, try getting there earlier in the evening, or just go on a weekday. read more

I used to always love this place, but the past few times I've been it seems to get worse and worse yet the prices keep going up. I ordered a burger this time and the server never asked how I wanted it cooked. It came out like a hockey puck. It was actually CRUNCHY... that's a problem. I would have sent it but the server never came back. A different person came twice to clear my plate though, the only problem was that I was still eating. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one was because the chips are good. I won't be coming back. It's too bad. read more

So I've been to Blackies with my family in the past and have had good experiences right along. The food is awesome and there are so many options. Last week our server Justine, was the best waitress I've had in a long time. She was sweet and funny and had something good to say about every dish. Our drinks were always full and our dinners were timed well with the appetizers. It's refreshing to have a waitress that really enjoys her job. Everything is worth the price with that kind of service (especially the big fat Greek sandwich). read more

The server was great, food was served fairly quick. Thats what gives this 2 stars. Based on the small portions and mediocre food at high prices, wouldnt return. Expected a $20 Rueben to be robust, not a small sandwich halved and stacked with a big toothpick. Instead of the bland chips, ordered a shot glass of decent cole slaw for an extra buck they must sorely need. To add mac-cheese? Extra $10. 3 thin pickle chips, not even a spear. Sorry Im more of a J's Deli-type budget guy I guess. read more

Interesting choices. Overall I think its good to change menus once in a while, and then wind back around and make sure the favorites are not totally abandon, because some signature dishes is why people go back to certain places. Hope they keep that in mind. I like burgers so I like trying differnt ones all the time. this place has good choices and of course a nice draught is needed. I will try again, but always go when less busy. read more

Its fine and seemed relatively clean. For this visit, we arrived about 9AM early in the work week, the restaurant was at about 20-25% capacity. There were 3 waitstaff on the floor and one showed up shortly after we were seated, this brought the total number of servers to 4. The staff immediately seemed put upon by our presence. I usually try to seem more friendly when I am confronted with folks like this, but they would have none of it. My friendly smiles were met with blank stares. Once we were seated, the drink question was asked of us. But the staffer was multi tasking, and when we responded, it was acknowledged as if we'd rudely interupted them. Further interactions went similarly. Our food arrived on the slow side but in a reasonable amount of time. The waffle was fluffy and crisp, the pancake thick and on the dry, soft, cakey end of the spectrum, (vs thin, buttery and crisp). Fruit was your standard food distributor pre-cut variety of melon, red grapes and pineapple, the same stuff you get at the supermarket. My scrambled eggs were overcooked, dry and rubbery but I have had worse. Bacon was similarly dry, probably reheated, not cooked to order. Italian toast was from a real Italian loaf, thin but decent. Homefries were pretty good. Once the food arrived, no one came by the table again to check on things until well after we'd finished eating. I initially thought there were no refills on the weak coffee until I heard an adjacent table being offered a refill. We were never asked if we needed anything else, or if the food was okay. That said, the food at the Orchard Grill isn't bad, it's just mediocre.. Paired with the bare minimum of unfriendly service, it was just not worth the 40+ dollars for the adult and two kids meals. Waitstaff treat you like a task, not like patrons, not like people seeking a positive experience. At the Orchard Grill you are an obstacle to be oveecome with the very smallest amount of effort you can get away with without seeming overtly hostile.
