I live in the neighborhood and was excited to try Yardbird... unfortunately, I wasn't impressed at all. The service was less than "meh" - our waiter seemed as though he'd rather be anywhere but there. As for the food, I ordered the Roasted Beet and Avocado Salad which would lead one to think the beets would be roasted. They were, however, cold and pickled. When I asked the server about it, his response was something to the effect of 'well, they roast them earlier then store them until they need them.' read more

The atmosphere of this place is hard to beat, and the food is amazing! I went with a group of 6, and they were wonderful and very accommodating. We got a seat outside and they even set up umbrellas for us. The entire table raves about their food, i got the biscuits and gravy, which is really good if you're looking for something kind of light and not too flavorful (for those plain janes). Street two hour parking, was lucky though to find a spot right in front. Has a really nice patio seating with umbrellas and a fire pit (for night). Took a few minutes to get seated, even though 5 servers acknowledged us. We got seated by an open window, which was really nice. Our waitress was very attentive when we were seated. I ordered the Birdburger with French fries. The burger was quite large. I ordered mine well done, it was really juicy and full of flavor. It wasn't a disappointment. The fries were delicious as well. The atmosphere is trendy, seems like a college/young adult vibe. They also have a bar with plentiful options. (I just stuck to water). The menu has several good choices but is a bit limited. They serve breakfast all day, and serve sandwiches, salad, and appetizers. Dinner options are available after 4 pm. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I would go back there again. read more

I don't usually write reviews, positive or negative. I figure if it's good, people will hear, and if it's bad, well, if you can't say anything nice. Okay I'll admit it, I'm just lazy and leech off the reviews of others. In this case though, I felt compelled to write for the public good. Verdict? Caveat emptor. I went to Yardbird for an early dinner this last weekend with 3 friends after a climbing session; usually climbers will eat their own hand and call it good after a sesh, being quite hungry from climbing and all. And we were hungry, to be sure. We all wanted to try Yardbird after the Gaia closure; I live 3 blocks from there and loved all of Gaia's offerings, brunch through dinner. Turns out, the one thing that didn't follow them in the move and transformation was the quality of the food. Being very hungry, I ordered the chicken fried chicken, as I believe you can never go wrong with southern gravy. My companions ordered the Birdblat, the Yardcubano, and the Gulf Shrimp & Grits. Turns out my philosophy is correct--you can never go wrong with southern gravy. Mine was by far the best meal of the four. The chicken was moist, the gravy peppery, and the garlic mashers well-seasoned. Score one for Yardbird! My companions were all "meh", "meh", and "eeew". The two sandwiches were described as "fine" by their consumers; nothing spectacular or even all that good, but nothing offensive or horribly disappointing. Just meh. The shrimp and grits, however, were a complete disaster. The grits were dry and the report was that they both felt and tasted as though they were prepared that morning and sat under a buffet-style warming lamp all day. The shrimp was described as "fine", again nothing spectacular, but the taste and texture of the grits was unappealing at best, off-putting at worst. All in all, my companions considered the visit a thorough disappointment; guess they should have gone with southern gravy. We all counted three votes against Yardbird and one for until later that night, when the person who ate the shrimp and grits had violent vomiting starting about 6 hours after our meal and lasting through the entire night. The next day they could barely hold food down, and it wasn't until about 24 hours after the meal that they finally felt able to eat a small baked potato. I'm a physician, and this is a classic description of a bacillus cereus infection--a food borne bacteria that is found on most uncooked grains, usually killed by proper cooking. However, if grains are not heated to at least 212 deg F and above for a substantial period of time (which, if you know physics, you can't do just by boiling water as water can't get to 212 deg F at this altitude), some b. cereus can survive. Put that poorly cooked food under a warming lamp for 8-10 hours and you just grew a culture of nasty bacteria that results in a 6-24 hour syndrome of severe nausea and vomiting. Most people would blame the shrimp, but in this case I suspect that poor cooking and improper post-cook food handling resulted in a case of b. cereus gastroenteritis. Did we do cultures? No. Can I prove this? No. B. cereus infections are generally mild and resolve so quickly that medical care is not usually warranted. (They can in rare instances be fatal, however.) But it put us all off Yardbird ever again. Should I ever go back, I will only eat things that must be prepared at the the time of order and aren't susceptible to b. cereus infestation, such as their crepes. Or southern gravy. But it will be a looooong time before I do. Too bad, I LOVED Gaia. read more

Our server - a young gentleman named Taylor - was absolutely wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating to our requests. My food was slightly bland (though still pretty tasty) and the eggs on my Benedict were a little over cooked, but they happily and quickly replaced them. The atmosphere was fantastic. read more

So on May 19th I went to bird for a late brunch with my best friend neither of us had been there before and we're lovers of brunch so we decided bird was the place. When we got there we immediately felt as if we were not wanted when we got sat it took FOREVER for our waitress Roxanne to greet us and when she did she didn't seem pleased we were sat with her at all. I say this because she was super short with us no expression on her face but was very bubbly and talkative to all her other tables laughing and joking etc. while waiting for our food we noticed our waitress would disappear and not even check in on us. So the food comes and my steak isn't cooked well enough for me so I simply ask to take it back and have cooked for a little while longer. I'm waiting a good ten-fifteen minutes and I look in the corner and guess who's eating my waitress Roxanne when I don't even have my food on my plate to be eating. I found this very rude and disrespectful for 1.) I'm not even enjoying my meal that I was going to pay for 2.) the lack of attentiveness I am also a server and I know that if someone's food isn't correct you wait in the back until it's right to bring back to me not openly eat at the bar in-front of my guest while she's waiting to get her food back when it came out wrong the first time and 3.) when I brought up her eating infront of me while I wait on my now extra extra well done steak she said "sorry I haven't ate since 10 this morning" I understand that working hard can insure for being hungry at the end of your shift this however was not the end of her shift again it was like 230 I'm sure she could've held off or ate out of sight of her tables. I then asked if the manager was there and she said she was the manager so I then thought like wow if a manager does these things on the clock in-front of guest then her whole team must follow suit. All in all the service was terrible I did get my steak taken off but I didn't even eat it after all the wait. The rest of the food though was very decent especially the potatoes yum! Will I reconsider this place maybe. Will I ever recommend it no. Service is a huge part of the dinning experience and from start to finish it was terrible 1 out of 1 stars and hopefully Roxanne will learn from this. read more

We were one of only three tables in the restaurant late afternoon and had the worst service and experience. All meals were wrong but we only asked to have one corrected (ex: asked for JUST cheese and bacon on a burger for a picky kid and got no cheese but a ton of mayo), there was a hair in one of the waters and no refills on empty water glasses until halfway through the meal (glasses were empty before the long awaited food came and although I asked for a refill we didn't get it until 15 min late ), there was no silverware or napkins provided until almost the end of the meal and my daughter ate her medium fried eggs with her hands (again, I had already asked once after the meals were served but we never saw the waitress again for awhile and couldn't wait any longer). The server seemed put out when asked for anything (ketchup, napkins, drinks, basic essentials) and didn't apologize for anything. Another actually nice employee came over who I assume knew we had a tough experience and asked if the server did anything to give us a break on our bill, when I told her no and it was less then a desirable experience she just said I'm sorry and hope you will come back. My daughter and I met here for lunch on a Tuesday. She had the Birdblat sandwich and I had the asparagus starter with a cup of tomato basil soup. Both of us were very happy with our food and service. We were there around 12:15, and had no trouble finding on-street parking. I had made a reservation for lunch, and I'm glad I did as all the tables were soon filled. I'm not one to write reviews, and as often as dine out, I should. Today, is the exception. Came into Yardbird with high hopes, being the hot and new spot, with decent reviews, I was super excited. The menu was eye catching, I could not decide what to get, so I decided get the Zoe's French toast, grilled cheese, smoked salmon benedict , Nutella & banana crepe. I'm not an expert, but I do not believe it should have taken 20+ mins for our food, with only 2 other tables aside from ours. The benedict arrived and it was just ok, but I did finish it since at this point I was starving. Come the other 3 dishes, and it was obvious presentation was not a priority, nor was the flavor. The French toast was not cooked thoroughly, the crepe was hard as rock and the grilled cheese was topped with something like look shit. I spoke to our waiter and he admitted that the food looked horrible and the kitchen was not focused because the health inspector was there. I asked for the manager and he said he's busy with the health inspector. So, I waited until he was done, and the manager never made it to our table. I will not be coming back. read more

The atmosphere here is great. My dad ordered the stuffed poblano which was very satisfying, and the egg sandwich was very flavorful, the pesto seasoned tomatoes were an excellent touch. In my opinion i didn't think too highly of the traditional eggs Benedict, the sauce lacked flavor. But overall a good restaurant !! :) read more

I've only been to this restaurant once and my experience was less than great, HOWEVER, it was handled wonderfully. I stopped in for a quick bite before work and my food (2 sandwiches) took almost 40 minutes to prepare and I ended up having to take it to go to get to work on time. other diners around us had gotten their food faster and we were told that due to some issues in the kitchen ours was taking far longer. Hey, i get it, sometimes stuff happens that you can't control, but everything the staff was able to control they did so wonderfully. They were incredibly kind and apologetic throughout the entire event, they gave us some gift cards, and once we ate the food it was excellent. Nice ambience and sweet outdoor patio, I'm excited to come back another time and have an experience more true to what I can tell the restaurant is normally like. Our experience was one of the rare bad ones, but that doesn't mean this isn't a nice place. I'll definitely be coming back another time. read more

Honestly one of the worst breakfast spots I've been to. They couldn't seat us for 15 minutes even though they had tables free the entire time we were there. Service was awful and food took an hour to arrive at our table. When it finally did, it was cold and they didn't follow our orders correctly (my friend asked for no cheese yet they put cheese on her dish). Just had breakfast at the Yardbird and it was great. I got the Pablano breakfast and it was tasty but not too spicy. This is the old Black Pearl space/owners but also the Gaia owners involved too. The menu was interesting and everyone at our table liked their choice, coffee was great. I talked with the owner and like many good restaurants in Denver, brunch is evidently their most popular meal and a good lunch crowd too. Visited this restaurant yesterday with a cousin from out of town hoping to treat her to a great meal at a cool local spot. SO DISAPPOINTED! No croissants?
